So, is Towns playing tonight vs. the Cavs?</p><p>The Knicks big man has a right quad strain. New York is monitoring the situation ahead of tip-off. The last thing the Knicks want to do is rush Towns back. Since then, Towns has been upgraded to questionable again, and the Knicks are <a href="https://x.com/IanBegley/status/1981106597041520787" rel="noopener">expecting</a> their All-Star big man to be available, according to Ian Begley of SNY.</p><p>Despite all the fluctuations in New York’s injury report, Towns is expected to play in the Knicks’ season opener against Cleveland.</p><p>Towns is still <a href="https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/referee/injury/Injury-Report_2025-10-22_04PM.pdf" rel="noopener">currently listed as questionable</a> on the NBA’ official injury report leading up to pregame warmups. Meanwhile, OG Anunoby (left ankle sprain) is probable. Josh Hart (lower back lumbar spasms) and Mitchell Robinson (left ankle injury management) have <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-mitchell-robinson-josh-hart-ruled-out-for-opener-vs-cavs">both been ruled out</a> for Wednesday’s matchup.</p><p>Ariel Hukporti is expected to start in place of Robinson, according to Begley.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/karl-anthony-towns-bold-predictions-2025-26-knicks-season">Towns is hoping to have a big season</a>. It will be the first game for the Knicks <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-karl-anthony-towns-brutally-honest-answer-mike-browns-offense-fans-murmuring">under head coach Mike Brown</a>, who was hired to replace Tom Thibodeau this offseason on the heels of New York’s trip to the Eastern Conference Finals.</p><p>Recently, Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns raised eyebrows when asked about his role with the team, saying,” I don’t know, but we’re figuring it out,” per Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News.</p><p>One person who is alarmed by those comments is former NBA forward Chandler Parsons, who recently took to FanDuel’s “Run It Back” show to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=913&amp;v=3NyDRJGR6h0&amp;feature=youtu.be" rel="noopener">address his thoughts.</a></p><p>“To me it’s one of two things. It’s either he hates the role that his new coach Mike Brown has given him, because he’s been there all summer. He’s had all training camp with him. So for him to say I don’t know, means he’s not stoked with it because he knows what it is,” said Parsons. “It just simply to me means he’s not rolling with whatever the role of the offense that the new coach is putting in because you don’t just say that the day before the season starts and not expect the reaction like this. It is possible that the 29-year-old could be in for an even more impactful campaign with a coach such as Brown at the helm.</p><p>Brown has made it clear that he wants the team to be a faster team on offense and one that can push the pace of play when needed. The other headliner was that the Knicks sent Julius Randle to the Timberwolves in the trade, and the Charlotte Hornets were added to ensure it all worked. However, the trade was made without Towns knowing.</p><p>On the most recent episode of “The Young Man and The Three,” Karl-Anthony Towns talked with Tommy Alter and Ben Stiller about how he found out he was traded from the Timberwolves to the Knicks and <a href="https://x.com/OldManAndThree/status/1978558910060474390" rel="noopener">how surprising it was for everyone</a> he knew because there were no rumors about it before the move. Timberwolves general manager Tim Connelly personally broke the news to him before his family.</p><p>Towns said, “I got a call saying that Tim wanted to come to the house to drop something off, and I said, well, I’ll see him at team dinner on Sunday, but he was very adamant that he wanted to come see me at the house, so I told him to go by. I’ll never forget. He came to the house and walked in with my dad and everyone else. The first words he said were, ‘You’re starting your modeling career in New York.’ I was initially confused, but then he said, ‘We traded you to New York,’ and it shocked everyone.”</p><p>Karl-Anthony Towns had a long run with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He started his NBA career there in 2015 before being traded in 2024. He won Rookie of the Year in his first season and was named an All-Star four times during his time with the Timberwolves.</p><p>However, in a way, the trade still worked out for everyone involved. During which he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-karl-anthony-towns-hilarious-lights-out-moment">bragged about his “lights out” shooting</a> in the leadup to the 2025-2026 season. A season in which the Knicks are looking to build off their previous success.</p><p>A season that saw them go all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals before <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/new-york-knicks-most-blame-ecf-loss-pacers">losing to the Indiana Pacers</a> in six games. Along the way, Towns finished the year averaging 24.4 points per game, 12.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. Additionally, he shot 52.6% from the field.</p><p>Meanwhile, Brunson finished the year averaging 26 points, 7.3 rebounds, and shooting 48.8% from the field.</p><p>All the while coming to terms with the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-jalen-brunson-sad-truth-tom-thibodeau-firing">firing of Tom Thibodeau</a>.</p><p>Much of the Knicks success this year will be in part on how well Towns and Brunson jive together.</p><h2><b>The Knicks have quite the explosive duo </b></h2><p>All jokes aside, it is a must for Towns and Brunson to be on the same accord. After all, when they are at their best collective there is virtually no stopping them. Both are top notch scorers and can play with sheer efficiency as well as intensity.</p><p>Brunson is the one who can rise to the occasion when it comes most. Meanwhile, Towns is the guy who can score in bunches.</p><p>During the ECF, they <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRcj7Gu7NEk&amp;t=53" rel="noopener">became the first pair</a> since Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal to score 20 or more points in the first four games. The biggest thing they need to do is to improve their defensive game which has a tendency to be inconsistent.</p><p>If they can improve on that while staying on top of their game offensively, there is no telling what can come next.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Kris is a proud graduate of Fordham University.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Editorials</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>A major focus of the New York Knicks’ media day on Tuesday was All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson’s offensive role. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-karl-anthony-towns-hilarious-lights-out-moment">Karl-Anthony Towns, fellow Knicks All-Star and offensive dynamo</a>, went as far as to describe a potential change in role for Brunson as being like that of Stephen Curry’s with the Golden State Warriors.</p><p>The theme emerged when new head coach Mike Brown shared details on his vision for his Knicks’ offense. The coach said the team wants to “play fast,” space the floor, and defend physically. Brown added a goal he’d like to pursue on the court to help elevate the team, beginning with Brunson.</p><p>“The biggest thing that I want to do for him is try to get him, as well as everybody else, easy shots,” Brown told reporters. “And one of the easiest shots in the game of basketball is a ‘spray three.’ I’m a big proponent of touching the paint and spraying that basketball for a catch-and-shoot three, and, so within what we do, we’re going to try to give him a lot of those situations.”</p><p>Towns was asked about the suggested adjustment to optimize Brunson’s effect on games. He compared Brunson’s potential role to that of Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry.</p><p>“JB’s one of the best point guards in the NBA, so, of course, when he has the ball in his hand, everyone takes notice,” Towns began. “If Mike has said that, then we’re gonna have to do a better job of getting him open, in a way like Steph Curry, we’re going to have to go find ways to make it easier for him to get the ball with space and help him get clean looks at the rim.”</p><p>Towns stressed that, with the team’s first official practice not until Wednesday, he’s not exactly sure of what Brown wants them to execute. But his focus will be on executing it properly.</p><p>“Again, I don’t know too much right now, but what I can say is, if he said that, my idea already goes to thinking of Steph Curry. How do we, you know, find ways to get him open with screens and movement that can help him- make it easier on him getting to the basket or shooting the ball?”</p><h2><b>How a “Curry” role for Jalen Brunson can help the Knicks</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/jalen-brunson-1.jpg"><figcaption>Brad Penner-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Increasing Brunson’s 3-point volume <a href="https://x.com/NBA_NewYork/status/1709414703678513530" rel="noopener">has been an organizational priority</a> in New York. The 29-year-old has taken 492 more 3-pointers in New York than he did in four seasons with the Dallas Mavericks. Brown, who coached Curry in Golden State, wants more of those shots to come from ball movement and not self-creation.</p><p>The point guard’s shooting ability has helped him make over 38 percent of his 3-pointers in each of the last three seasons, despite the significant increases in volume across the board.</p><p>Last year, Brunson led the NBA in <a href="https://youtube.com/shorts/BPMoyBDAZJw?si=KkqK1TYkf-Fj8A8k" rel="noopener">time of possession per game</a>. Brown thinks having a versatile lineup can make Brunson a bigger threat while requiring less from him on the ball. One instinct Brown said he wants his players to develop is to keep moving around the court after executing an offensive action.</p><p>“On a dribble-drive, when you touch the paint you get off of [the ball], we want you to keep moving…the little bit that we’ve seen so far in Jalen, during these optional workouts, he seems like he’s embraced it,” Brown explained. “Because you have to be in great condition in order to play this way. But he seems like he’s embraced it, and I’m looking forward to seeing if we can continue to try to find ways – especially when we start playing games – try to find ways to get him some easy catch-and-shoot looks.”</p><p>It’s hard to ignore the parallels, as Towns alluded to, with Curry’s role with the Warriors. The world knows Curry as a point guard, but, like Brunson, he doesn’t fit the traditional positional mold.</p><p>The Knicks tend to go as far as Brunson leads them. He’s had the keys to the offense for three seasons, and Brown made clear that he’s not taking them away. To the new Knicks coach, having the ball less can set Brunson up to be able to do more.</p><p>Despite proposed changes to the pace of play, the spacing on the court, and players’ individual roles, Brown clarified that one thing about Brunson’s role will remain the same.</p><p>“The ball will be in his hands, especially down the stretch,” the coach said of the 2025 NBA Clutch Player of the Year, “and so to make the game easier, throughout the course of the game, is going to be a big thing.”</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But now Towns is disputing the report at Knicks Media Day, <a href="https://x.com/FredKatz/status/1970492483730628668" rel="noopener">claiming that he did not</a>, in fact, have those procedures done, per The Athletic’s Fred Katz.</p><p>This disconnect seems odd, but perhaps the wording of Shelburne’s <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45448458/sources-karl-anthony-towns-treated-knee-finger-injuries" rel="noopener">initial report could explain it?</a> The headline of her report says Towns was “treated” for the injuries, which were suffered during New York’s playoff run to the Eastern Conference Finals (finger against the Boston Celtics and knee against the Indiana Pacers). The first line of the story even says “Towns has undergone treatment,” though the word “procedures” is later used.</p><p>From Shelburne: “After the Knicks’ season ended with Saturday’s Game 6 loss to the Pacers, Towns had the injuries reexamined and chose to immediately have procedures so he would have the most time possible to recover before next season, sources said.”</p><p>Maybe Towns didn’t actually undergo any surgical procedures that required him to go under the knife but still did get some kind of special treatment for the injuries? Maybe he received some kind of injections?</p><p>It’s unclear right now, and we’ll surely get some kind of clarification on this in the future. Either way, it seems Towns is in good spirits as New York gets ready to embark on another season with high expectations.</p><h2>KAT, Knicks move forward with Mike Brown</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/New-York-Knicks-2025-NBA-free-agency-grades-for-every-signing.jpg"><figcaption>Stephen Lew-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>It’s a season of change, though, with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-mike-brown-next-head-coach-tom-thibodeau-firing">Mike Brown in place of Tom Thibodeau as head coach</a>. The Knicks fired Thibodeau despite their deepest playoff run since 2000, and they believe Brown is the man who will finally lead them back to the NBA Finals.</p><p>New York will need a healthy Karl-Anthony Towns to do it, so hopefully none of these injuries actually linger. Towns averaged 24.4 points, a career-high 12.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 35.0 minutes per game last season. His numbers did dip a bit in the playoffs (21.4/11.6/1.3), but he didn’t miss a game in the postseason despite the injuries.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
