He don’t care,” Frye said. “Also, why you snitchin? The reporter’s snitchin.”</p><p>Co-host Richard Jefferson reminded Channing Frye that it’s Pablo Torre’s job to investigate, whereas the player — Leonard — is supposed to keep the reported endorsement deal a secret.</p><p>“The reporter’s job is to snitch. Our job is to keep it quiet, right?” Ballmer didn’t tell,” Jefferson said. “Kawhi didn’t tell. So, Pablo’s doing what he’s supposed to do and he’s doing an absolute great job. Shout him out for this investigation. So he pays a guy $12.3m to go Madoff and falsify statements to make it look like he has 86m in stocks and $25m in cash, and uses that fake info to “guarantee” the Sanberg loan. Standing offer if you find the courage.”</p><p>Still, for Torre, none of this explains why Aspiration would pay Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard such a large amount for doing essentially nothing in terms of endorsing the company, he <a href="https://x.com/PabloTorre/status/1966510994483454429" rel="noopener">replied</a>.</p><p>“Mark… The Clippers gained *Kawhi Leonard* — in exactly the way that Kawhi and his reps pitched Toronto in 2019 [no-show job + equity]. Following the annual Board of Governors meeting, Silver <a href="https://www.nba.com/watch/video/adam-silvers-board-of-governors-presser-full" rel="noopener">publicly addressed the matter</a> for the first time.</p><p>“I’ve been around the league long enough and different permutations of allegations and accusations,” Silver said. “I’m a big believer in due process and fairness, and you need to now let the investigation run its course.”</p><p>With much uncertainty still surrounding the situation, Bill Simmons has <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNPZUjkOIy8&amp;t=2076s" rel="noopener">a theory that would clear Leonard</a> of any wrongdoing.</p><p>“What if Kawhi just never knew about any of this?” Simmons asked on the Bill Simmons podcast. “The smoking gun for this theory is Kawhi doesn’t want to do any work. Torre’s latest podcast reveals that Wong invested nearly $2 million in Aspiration nine days before Leonard received $1.75 million. According to Torre, the payment to Leonard, officially sent on December 15, 2022, was “running late.”</p><p>Outside of Ballmer, only Wong holds a limited partnership in the ownership group. It’s another piece to the puzzle that people inside the NBA are trying to solve. What you talking about bro?” Morant said on the livestream.</p><p>Aspiration filed for bankruptcy earlier in March 2025, with Steve Ballmer previously known to have invested $50 million in the firm. Further, a $1.75 million payment to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-clippers/clippers-rumors-aspiration-kawhi-leonard-minority-owner">Kawhi Leonard was made days after the Clippers’ part-owner Dennis Wong</a> sent a $1.99 million investment to the company back in December 2022.</p><p>This was despite the fact that Aspiration was already struggling and had actually laid off 20 percent of its employees the day the Leonard payment was made. While the evidence had largely been circumstantial before this latest update, Torre revealed having access to the paper trail that directly connects Wong to the said investment in the now-bankrupt company.</p><p>The NBA is now investigating the matter, and further updates can be expected to be based on what they find. However, considering the sheer publicity this controversy has received, as well as the implications it potentially has for the entire NBA, Morant’s lack of awareness comes as a bit of a surprise. Things have only grown more concerning due to the involvement of the Klaw’s uncle and lead representative Dennis Robertson, against whom the NBA had previously launched an investigation back in 2019.</p><p>Now, it has been claimed that apart from being heavily involved in the entire Clippers-Aspiration saga, Richardson also made problematic demands to multiple teams during Leonard’s free agency tenure after the 2019 season, including the Los Angeles Lakers. Kawhi eventually signed a three-year deal with the Clippers.</p><p>However, Richardson told the Raptors during this time that “they needed to match at least $10 million per year in extra sponsorships income,” per The Athletic. Richardson also told the Raptors that Kawhi “didn’t want to do anything for the money,” despite this being <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6617814/2025/09/10/adam-silver-clippers-ballmer-investigation-bold/" rel="noopener">a clear violation</a> of the collective bargaining agreement of the NBA.</p><p>However, the same demand was not made to the Lakers during the team’s discussions with the player. Instead, Richardson demanded a specific amount of off-court money that could be promised in advance, which is also against CBA rules.</p><p>Simply put, the accusation is that Dennis Richardson demanded money for Kawhi Leonard’s ‘no-show’ jobs from the Clippers. They accepted, and a subsequent $1.75 million payment to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-clippers/clippers-rumors-aspiration-kawhi-leonard-minority-owner">Kawhi Leonard has even been directly linked to the Clippers’ part-owner</a> Dennis Wong by Pablo Torre.</p><p>However, he made the same demand before to the Raptors, and a similar demand for a promise of “off-court endorsement money” to the Lakers. The player, of course, ended up signing for the Clippers instead.</p><p>After the initial three-year deal ran until 2021, Leonard then signed a four-year, $176 million extension in 2021, followed by a three-year, $149 million deal that now runs until the end of the 2026-27 campaign.
