Love only recently celebrated his birthday on Sunday, September 7. And it seems as if the two continue to remain close even years after being teammates for the Cavs.</p><p>“THE BEST EVER!!!!!” James wrote on his Instagram story <a href="https://www.instagram.com/stories/kingjames/3717080979132407565/?hl=en" rel="noopener">in response to a post</a> from the official NBA Instagram account. During this time, the Cavs would go on to form the most entertaining NBA rivalry of the 2010s against the Golden State Warriors, eventually winning a title in 2016.</p><p>That has proved to be his only championship thus far. Kevin Love averaged 15.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists during his nine seasons with the Cavs, emerging as one of the best shooters in the league during this stretch. He converted 37.6% of his three-point attempts during this time.</p><p>The player would outlast both Irving and James at the franchise, eventually leaving in February 2023 after agreeing to a buyout with the franchise. Even though he was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-news-clippers-jazz-heat-pull-off-3-team-trade-norman-powell-john-collins" rel="noopener">traded to the Utah Jazz from the Miami Heat</a>, he may look towards a buyout agreement. </p><p>On Tuesday, Marc Stein of the Stein Line reported that Love is <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/sunday-best-the-latest-hottest-and-f4d" rel="noopener">“actively exploring”</a> buyout options outside of Utah. While it would be a challenge to trade Love, the potential of a buyout is likely. </p><p>There are also reports that Love <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/siegels-scoop-jonathan-kuminga-standoff-warriors-final-stages" rel="noopener">may look to join</a> one of the Los Angeles teams to end his career, per Brett Seigel of ClutchPoints. If he did that, he would rejoin his former Cavaliers teammate LeBron James. </p><p>However, there are challenges ahead that could make his path towards the West Coast difficult. Even though the Lakers have one spot left, they are limited by the salary cap.</p><p>Both the Lakers and Clippers are hard-capped at the first apron, meaning that they are limited to signing a veteran player without slashing salary. The Lakers are limited at $1.1 million, and the Clippers are capped at $1.2 million. </p><p>Ultimately, the Lakers and Clippers would have to trade or waive other players to create space for Love to join. </p><p>Love, 37, has played 17 seasons in the NBA. In 2008, he entered the league with the Memphis Grizzlies before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played for them until 2014 before joining the Cavaliers from 2014 to 2023 and winning an NBA championship in 2016. </p><p>Afterward, he joined the Miami Heat.</p><h2><b>What if Kevin Love went to LA?</b></h2><p>If a buyout from the Jazz follows through, Love could have an impact for either of the LA teams. With the Lakers, Love could add a sense of veteran leadership to a team comprised of James and Luka Doncic. </p><p>He could also provide consistent scoring and rebounding. The same holds for the Clippers, particularly in the addition of veteran leadership with Chris Paul. </p><p>In a twist of irony, Love would join John Collins, who was traded to the Clippers from the Jazz in the three-way trade. </p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Previously, Preston worked as an associate editor for Dot Esports and a site expert for FanSided's Union and Blue.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Miami Heat</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>After parts of three seasons with the Miami Heat, Kevin Love was traded as part of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-news-clippers-jazz-heat-pull-off-3-team-trade-norman-powell-john-collins">the deal that netted the Heat Norman Powell.</a> And while no one would argue that Love, 36, is better than Powell at the current stages of their careers, one of Love’s former teammates expressed dissatisfaction at how the trade went down.</p><p>In the deal, Love, along with Kyle Anderson and a second-round pick, was acquired by the Utah Jazz, who sent John Collins to the Los Angeles Clippers, who shipped Powell to Miami. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-kevin-love-trade-jazz-math-problem-quip">Love, who joked afterward that he was “a math problem”</a> in the trade, was effectively that — a relatively small part to help complete the larger three-team puzzle.</p><p>Still, Channing Frye, one of Love’s former Cleveland Cavaliers teammates and a close, personal friend, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE-UZQG6Jy0&amp;ab_channel=RoadTrippin%27" rel="noopener">did not like one aspect</a> of the trade.</p><p>“I will say this: my understanding was that Kevin was going to be that next guy for Miami, right? … The next guy, the next UD (Udonis Haslem), the next guy that was keeping that locker room — to have a great locker room, your 15th guy, your number one guy, your coach, your GM, your owner need to be on the same page. They need to buy into what you’re selling. And Kevin was bought in a thousand percent in Miami,” Frye said on the ‘Road Trippin’ podcast. “Now, do things happen? Yes. But I think when you’re telling somebody at that age, ‘Hey, we want you here,’ this and that, you’ve got to give them a call to explain like, ‘Hey, here’s why you’re going here. Here’s our thought process.’ Just that level of respect. It’s not like it would’ve changed anything, but the communication is what I didn’t appreciate necessarily from that thing.”</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>Love has played 17 seasons in the NBA, and until Monday, had only been traded once before; in 2014, he was famously dealt by the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Cleveland Cavaliers for, among other players and picks, No. 1 draft pick Andrew Wiggins. He won a championship with the Cavs two years later alongside LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, as well as ‘Road Trippin’ co-hosts Frye and Richard Jefferson.</p><p>In February 2023, Love and the Cavs agreed to a contract buyout, and he shortly thereafter joined the Heat, who reached the NBA Finals in his first season with the team. Love has averaged increasingly less playing time in his three seasons with Miami; after averaging 19.9 minutes per game in 2023, he played 16.8 minutes in 2023-24, and 10.9 this past season, which <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-kevin-love-emotional-announcement-fathers-passing">included the death of his father, Stan, in April</a>.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/ranking-nba-buyout-candidates-and-their-best-potential-fits">Kevin Love is expected to be bought out by the Jazz</a>, which would enable him to sign essentially anywhere. Cavs fans are reacting with mixed emotions about Love’s potential return to The Land.</p><p>“The Cavs have given K Love quite enough money to NOT play basketball,” one fan commented on <a href="https://www.fearthesword.com/2025/7/7/24463192/kevin-love-would-fit-in-with-this-version-of-the-cavs" rel="noopener">Fear the Sword’s article</a>. “Enough is enough.”</p><p>In nearly nine years with Cleveland, Love made more than $230 million. Given that Cleveland is a second apron team, the only way they can sign Love is on a veteran minimum contract.</p><p>“If he’s playing a tough playoff series outside of garbage time,” commented another fan, “that’s likely an injury-induced problem. But for a (minimum)? Sure thing. Less of a problem than playing Tristan (Thompson) or most 12-13th men.”</p><p>The speculation comes shortly after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-trade-grade-for-norman-powell-deal-with-clippers-jazz">Love was traded from the Miami Heat</a> to the Utah Jazz as part of a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-clippers/clippers-news-lawrence-frank-breaks-silence-on-norman-powell-john-collins-trade">three-team deal also including the Los Angeles Clippers</a>.</p><p>Shortly after the trade, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported on X that Love is “<a href="https://x.com/JakeLFischer/status/1942240225163374682">certainly a buyout candidate</a> in Utah<a href="https://x.com/JakeLFischer/status/1942240225163374682">.</a>”</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-kevin-love-trade-jazz-math-problem-quip">36-year-old NBA vet</a> also took to X <a href="https://x.com/kevinlove/status/1942236372032487869">with his immediate reaction</a>. “Never thought I’d be a math problem,” Love posted. “Welcome to the NBA.”</p><h2><b>Why a buyout makes sense</b></h2><p>Love is undoubtedly near the end of his career, most likely seeking a roster spot with a championship contender. Last season, he appeared in only 23 games, averaging a career low 10.9 minutes and 5.3 points per game.</p><p>Despite shooting poorly overall– 35.7% from the field – he still shot 35.8% from 3-point range on 2.9 attempts per game. It’s unlikely that his next team will require much more than occasional minutes and filling in for injured players.</p><p>What Love provides most is what a lot of teams lack: <a href="https://cavsnation.com/news/cavs-news-kevin-loves-legacy-in-cleveland-goes-beyond-basketball">championship experience.</a> The Cavaliers, in particular, have only two players on their roster who have been to the NBA Finals – Max Strus and Larry Nance Jr. – neither of whom won the championship.</p><p>Love’s locker room presence is most valuable at this stage in his career. The Clippers also sent a second-round pick in 2027 to the Jazz.</p><p>Powell was the centerpiece of the trade, with Love merely thrown into the mix to balance out the financial side of things. The five-time NBA All-Star has seen it all in the league, and he showed familiarity with what his role was in the trade <a href="https://x.com/kingsmenx18/status/1942239070698242161" rel="noopener">with a witty claim</a> that he posted on social media.</p><p>“Never thought I’d be a math problem,” the 36-year-old big man shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Welcome to the NBA.”</p><p>The Jazz perhaps never really had the desire to trade for Love and include him in their future, short or long term. But Love was a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/nba-rumors-how-heats-norman-powell-trade-hurts-bradley-beal-chances">crucial component the Heat used to make the trade work</a>. The former NBA rebounding champion still has a year left on his current contract, one that will pay him $4.15 million in the 2025-26 NBA season. It is fair to assume that Utah will release Love sooner than later, which would open up a chance for him to sign with another squad.</p><p>Love’s best days are very much in the past now. He has not averaged more than nine points per game since the 2022-23 campaign. His last All-Star season was in 2017-18 when he was still with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Last season, he put up just 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in 10.9 minutes per contest with the Heat.</p><p>Viewed as among the best players in the league during his prime, Love has won an NBA title in 2016 with the Cavs.</p><p>Whichever team Love plays in the 2025-26 season, he can be expected to provide some insurance in the frontcourt and veteran leadership in the locker room, probably for a team that gives him a better shot at winning one more NBA title before he decides to hang up his sneakers.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

In the 1960s, they were part of a surge of teen idols that revolutionized the music industry’s popularity. </p><p>This latest loss for Love is another test of his mental resolve. </p><h2><b>Kevin Love’s grief is connected to his mental health</b>.</h2><p>Since 2018, Love has been one of the most outspoken athletes when it comes to mental health. He <a href="https://www.theplayerstribune.com/articles/kevin-love-everyone-is-going-through-something" rel="noopener">poured his heart out</a> into his 2018 Player’s Tribune Essay “Everyone is Going Through Something.”</p><p>In it, Love wrote candidly about his battles with depression as well as suicidal ideation. He and fellow NBA veteran DeMar DeRozan are credited with helping to unleash greater awareness about mental health in the NBA. </p><p>Grief can have a significant effect on one’s mental health. It could lead to thoughts of suicide, increased anxiety, and develop feelings of depression. Is he suggesting that Dolan is using the loss as a chance to shake things up in dramatic fashion, even if it was against his own self-interest?</p><p>As Love pointed out, Thibs was the first head coach to take the Knicks to the Eastern Conference Finals in 25 years, and as was often the case with Mr. McMahon, the shortsighted decision to fire folks in the heat of the moment would often come back to bite him in the end. Is Dolan the heel running wild over the Knicks organization just like Mr. McMahon was in WWE? Or was this simply a funny opportunity for Love to make light of the situation?</p><p>Whether the Knicks’ decision was right or wrong remains to be seen, but with the proverbial deed officially done, fans will now have to wait and see what Dolan has cooking to get his organization past the highest ceiling they’ve reached this century. She, along with No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers and freshman phenom Sarah Strong, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-basketball/uconn-womens-basketball-news-paige-bueckers-ends-college-career-on-top-demolition-south-carolina">led the charge in a dominant season for UConn</a>. However, Fudd and her teammates dealt with the stresses that come along with their stardom throughout the season.</p><p>Fudd addressed the mental health hurdles she faces in a social media post in partnership with the Kevin Love Fund. The non-profit organization was created by the NBA champion to promote mental health awareness, especially in athletes. Fudd is a supporter of the program and took some time on Tuesday to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJma8RqJejg/?igsh=MTFpa256OWVyaDQzMA%3D%3D" rel="noopener">share her mental health strategies</a>.</p><p>“To me, being more than your sport means knowing your worth, knowing that you’re not getting all of your identity from basketball, from whatever sport you play,” Fudd said. “Knowing that you can use that platform of your sport to do good, to help others…”</p><p>Fudd, Bueckers, and the rest of the UConn women’s basketball stars face a tremendous amount of pressure to perform well on the floor. So much attention can be detrimental as the Huskies navigate their way around the high expectations put on them.</p><p>The former All-Star’s struggles with mental health captured the attention of sports fans when he shared his story in 2018. Since coming forward, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-news-kevin-love-showers-kyle-singler-love-amid-mental-battle">Love committed to giving athletes the resources</a> to do the same and help them.</p><p>Fudd is one of many who have taken advantage of the service to speak about their problems and find solutions.</p><p>“Talking to someone,” Fudd said when asked about how she maintains her mental health during a long season. “…it’s always nice to get that help. It took me a long time to figure that out, but it was my first time doing that this year and I think it helped tremendously.”</p><p>Fudd is one of the faces of women’s college basketball, and is using her platform to promote Love’s organization. Love missed the final portion of the season as well as the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-bam-adebayo-reveals-how-captain-status-made-cavs-sweep-harder-to-stomach">Heat’s playoff loss</a> to the Cleveland Cavaliers to be with his family.</p><p>At age 36, some are wondering whether or not Love is looking to continue his NBA career after seeing his minutes fall dramatically over the last couple of seasons with the Heat.</p><p>However, recently, NBA insider Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press poured <a href="https://x.com/ByTimReynolds/status/1917644127254020246" rel="noopener">some cold water</a> on those talks.</p><p>“Kevin Love has made clear that he is coming back next season, if anyone was wondering about his status going forward,” reported Reynolds on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Kevin Love has been with the Miami Heat since midway through the 2023 season after his buyout with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Love played a key role in helping guide the eight-seeded Heat to a shocking NBA Finals appearance that year, knocking down timely threes and providing a steady veteran presence for a Miami team that had to take down multiple Goliaths to get to the game’s biggest stage.</p><p>Love has seen his minutes fall off significantly in the ensuing two seasons, as big men like Kel’el Ware have made their way into Erik Spoelstra’s rotation.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Heat as a whole are entering what figures to be a crossroads of an offseason. Miami won two straight play-in games on the road to punch their ticket to the playoffs, but when they got there, they set the record for the largest combined margin of defeat (122) in a single playoff series, including a 55-point loss to send them home in Game 4.</p><p>At this point, it’s unclear whether Miami will look to embrace a rebuild or try to retool around Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo.</p><p>Whatever direction they go, it seems that Love is planning to stay along for the ride.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

I’m in disbelief,” Thompson wrote in the caption.</p><p>“Im in the deepest part of sorrow &amp; grief,” the Cavaliers star continued. “My soul is empty as I come to terms that my biggest supporter/superhero is gone. I cannot thank you enough for always being a woman of faith, being one of Gods warriors, fighting back with whatever the world threw our way.”</p><p>In the caption he apologized for his wrongdoings and scandals which mainly included the women he was involved with at the time.</p><p>“You raised me better than what I was able to show you. But I have also learned sorry is not enough,” Thompson added. “Actions speak louder than words. So I wont just say sorry. Stay tuned to the ways I will show the world what an amazing son you raised. I will show you that even when we fall &amp; make mistakes, we get back up.”</p><p>He promised his mother that he would take care of the family and especially his now 18 year-old brother Amari that has epilepsy and must have around the clock care. The former eventually returned to the franchise in the 2023-24 season.</p><p>While they are not on the same team, the bond they created still remains. That much was shown when before Game 4 began, Thompson and Love <a href="https://x.com/IsaacOkoroFan/status/1917010970926583936" rel="noopener">shared a heartwarming embrace</a>. Even if they aren’t teammates, it doesn’t take away the fact that basketball brought them together and will keep them</p><p>In the meantime, Thompson serves as a veteran on Cavs squad that is making history throughout the 2024-25 season. Winning 64 games in the regular season and sweeping the Heat in the first round as the top seed speaks volumes to their talent and case as title contenders. Their <a href="https://cavsnation.com/news/cavs-news-dan-gilbert-sends-stern-reminder-cleveland-after-heat-sweep">55-point victory over the Heat</a> is another example of that.</p><p>Five players scored in double-digits on Cleveland’s behalf in Game 4. Donovan Mitchell led the way with 22 points and five assists. He shot 8-of-15 overall, including 4-of-8 from downtown. De’Andre Hunter came next with 19 points, Ty Jerome had 18 points and five assists, Evan Mobley put up 17 points and seven rebounds, while Jarrett Allen provided 14 points and 12 rebounds.</p><p>The Cavs now await the winner of the first round series between the Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks.
