That includes an agreement on a deal with former Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr., who has been out of the NBA since last September following his arrest last September.</p><h2>The Incident And Plea Agreement</h2><p>On the morning of September 11, 2023, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-kevin-porter-jr-arrested-allegedly-assaulting-wnba-girlfriend">Porter Jr. was arrested</a> and later charged with assault and strangulation of his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick, formerly of the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever. <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/38386284/girlfriend-rockets-kevin-porter-fractured-vertebrae">Prosecutors stated</a> that Porter Jr.’s alleged attack on his girlfriend left her with a fractured neck vertebra and a cut above her right eye.</p><p>Kyrse Gondrezick spoke out after the incident, denying the allegations that Kevin Porter Jr. hit or punched her.</p><p>“He didn’t hit me,” <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/10/17/rockets-guard-kevin-porter-jr-s-girlfriend-denies-he-strangled-punched-her-in-nyc-hotel/" rel="noopener">Gondrezick told the New York Post</a>. “He never balled his fists up and hit me,” Gondrezick said. “And he definitely didn’t punch me in the face numerous times. That is a lie. I don’t have any injuries to support that.”</p><p>In January 2024, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-kevin-porter-jr-plea-agreement-reckless-assault-case">Porter Jr. reached a plea agreement</a> of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree.</p><p>According to the Associated Press, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/houston-rockets-kevin-porter-jr-assault-arrest-9d362fba93becc8a66f0d82318bdc7dc" rel="noopener">the agreement states</a> that Kevin Porter Jr., “must complete a 26-week Abusive Partner Intervention Program or an equivalent program with a private counselor. He must also abide by a limited order of protection, attend all court dates and have no further arrests.</p><p>“If Porter complies,” the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/houston-rockets-kevin-porter-jr-assault-arrest-9d362fba93becc8a66f0d82318bdc7dc" rel="noopener">Associated Press explained</a>, “he’ll be able to withdraw his assault plea in a year and will be sentenced at that time to time served for the non-criminal harassment count, prosecutors said, effectively clearing his criminal record.”</p><h2>The Clippers Speak About Kevin Porter Jr. Addition</h2><p>When the team officially signed Kevin Porter Jr., there was no statement or quote from President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank. Derrick Jones Jr. and Nicolas Batum, however, both received statements in their official signings minutes prior to Porter Jr.’s.</p><p>Frank met with members of the media in Las Vegas amid the NBA’s Summer League, where he was asked directly by ClutchPoints regarding the decision to sign Kevin Porter Jr.</p><p>“First of all, look, we’re obviously very aware of his history,” <a href="https://twitter.com/TomerAzarly/status/1813294468151537980" rel="noopener">Lawrence Frank responded to ClutchPoints</a>‘ inquiry. “We’ve studied the case. We don’t in any way want to downplay or minimize or condone domestic violence, okay? The allegations are serious and they’re disturbing.</p><p>“With that being said, what we did is we hired an outside expert. We spent a couple days with Kevin, the expert did a very thorough evaluation and based on the expert’s recommendations, we decided that it was worth an opportunity for Kevin. Now, with that being said, there’s a personal development plan that he committed to back in October, and then we have our own personal development plan that he’s committed to and will be held accountable to and we think based on those facts that positive change is possible and the standards will be high for Kevin. But we totally are aware of the history and in no shape, way, shape or form do we want to minimize what the allegations are.”</p><p>When asked if the organization took time to speak with some of the women in the organization, some of whom may be working directly with Porter Jr., Lawrence Frank <a href="https://twitter.com/TomerAzarly/status/1813294468151537980" rel="noopener">essentially said no</a>.</p><p>“Well, I think we didn’t have conversations with specific women, but every decision that we make is we want to create a safe and comfortable work environment and based on the experts we consulted with, they gave us very encouraging, in regards to a safe and comfortable work environment, that will not be a factor.”</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Here were my 2 questions regarding Kevin Porter Jr. yesterday to Clippers President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank as well as the answers:</p><p>“First of all, look, we're obviously very aware of his history. And look, even though the charges were lessened on Kevin, we still don’t try to diminish anything in terms of what was alleged. So you just do the most you can. The NBA is going to do their own process. That’s how these things work and so it’ll abide by whatever the NBA decides.”</p><p>A league source confirmed to ClutchPoints that the NBA plans to continue its investigation into Kevin Porter Jr. now that the guard is back in the league. There is no word yet, however, on whether or not Porter Jr. is facing any kind of discipline from the league.</p><p>Kevin Porter Jr., 24 years of age, has played four years in the NBA thus far with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets. Once he made the NBA, the problems piled on. As the 30th overall pick by the Cavs in the 2019 NBA Draft, he showed glimpses of his potential</p><p>But once his promising rookie season was over, the off-court issues took over the headlines once again. He was arrested for improperly handling a firearm which caused him to miss most of the next season, and before he could play a game, another incident took place. He had an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kevin-porter-jr-s-troubled-past-well-before-locker-room-outburst-with-cavs-leading-to-rockets-trade">outburst</a> in the team’s locker room after discovering they moved his locker to accommodate the recently acquired Taurean Prince.</p><p>This behavior led the Cavaliers to part ways with him for close to nothing (a top-55 protected second round pick) to the Rockets. On a new team with no expectations, Porter took advantage of his opportunity. Over the next two seasons, he established himself as the team’s starting point guard, earning a four-year, $82.5 million contract extension in the process.</p><h2><b>Kevin Porter Jr. gets himself into trouble once again</b></h2><p>Despite his newfound success, Porter relapsed, leading to a major setback. In September 2023, he was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend, WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick. When the initial investigations were done, Gondrezick reportedly had injuries to her eye and back. However, Porter reached a plea deal four months later, avoiding a lengthy legal battle and giving himself another chance to get his life and career back on track.</p><p>Following this incident, the Rockets decided to part ways with Porter by trading him to the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he was immediately waived by his new team. Many are well aware of <a href="https://fadeawayworld.net/kevin-porter-jr-s-history-of-felony-assault-violence-and-altercation-in-strip-club">his history of anger</a> and violence on and off the court, which includes a five-year span from his time in college playing for the University of Southern California to the recent event that led to his release.</p><p>In this modern day and age, talent isn’t enough. Houston and Cleveland sought to keep him on their respective teams to preserve that talent but his messy track record on and off the court became larger to overcome.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">DISCLAIMER: This is dark.</p><p>It wasn't that long ago when Kevin Porter Jr. was getting his life together.</p><p>He was traded by the Cavs and fell into the aftermath of James Harden in Houston. A new slate. And the stats proved him to be a capable player. On paper, you have more scoring and playmaking. Last season, Porter averaged 19.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists with the Rockets while shooting 44.2% from the field, all career highs.</p><p>Having this type of talent slid in as a sixth-man position would have been huge for Houston. Another facilitator and shot creator to compliment Jalen Green and Fred VanVleet to provide more variety? Yes, please. Arguably, they might have been a completely different team.</p><p>However, on-paper doesn’t necessarily translate well on the court. The Rockets’ decision to make Porter’s contract extension non-guaranteed was indicative of their concerns about his behavioral patterns. Unfortunately, his history of violence and anger management persisted.</p><h2><b>What if Kevin Porter Jr. stayed on the Rockets?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Houston_Rockets_guard_Kevin_Porter_Jr.jpeg"><figcaption>Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Consider a scenario in which Porter stays on the team. VanVleet’s max contract signing was a clear indication that he would be the starting point guard alongside Jalen Green, leaving Porter to come off the bench. This technically cites a move out of the starting lineup, a slot he coveted upon his arrival to Houston.</p><p>Compare this to the infamous locker room incident in Cleveland. Notice the similarities? Would he have displayed early frustrations with his role against Rockets coach Ime Udoka and the staff? It’s certainly possible. The Rockets might’ve dealt with a cancer on the roster all season, thwarting a respectable leap in development.</p><p>Obviously, there’s no way to dictate this, given the current timeline. However, the Rockets are above .500 with a 37-36 record. They’ve taken extreme leaps in development without Porter, knocking on the door of a play-in tournament appearance, and are set up quite nicely for next season. The playoff window might not have been as open as quickly as it did within just a one-season turnaround.</p><h2><b>Further implications</b></h2><p>Let’s address another issue. Say you have KPJ play minutes off the bench. Where does that leave rookies Amen Thompson or Cam Whitmore? There’s a very good chance they don’t receive the fast-track development and recognition that they’ve had all season. Thompson’s already made a significant impact on the floor, averaging a double-double when starting games, and his ability to defend multiple positions gives more variety for Houston to utilize on the court.</p><p>Instead of the first two and a half months of the season, Betting on Cam Whitmore to play in the G-League for the whole year isn’t a hot take. His development at the NBA level has provided the Rockets a great offensive weapon to have, and possibly, for the long haul. In just 17.9 minutes, Whitmore averages 12.1 points on 46.3% shooting and 36% from deep. When he has the ball, scoring is his mission by any means necessary. This would not have happened with KPJ taking his minutes.</p><h2><b>Maturity matters</b></h2><p>In hindsight, the Rockets’ decision to part ways with Porter was a good thing. From his point of view, his time in Greece will give him time to experience playing overseas, improving his reputation and maturity to eventually make a return to the NBA. Whether it be the Rockets again or another team, his talent is still impeccable, and any team looking for extra scoring will be happy to take him on paper.</p><p>Yet, that can only get you so far in this profession. Arguably, image and outlook are all vastly important, especially if a player desires to put his brand on the NBA landscape.</p><p> </p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Months later, the case seemed to come to a conclusion. Porter has now reached a <a href="https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1749815691711250687" rel="noopener">plea agreement</a> in the case, per the latest update from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.</p><p>‘Former Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr., has reached a plea agreement of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree involving his case with former girlfriend and WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick in a Manhattan Criminal Court, according to his lawyers….The former Rockets guard will be allowed to withdraw the plea to assault upon successful completion of the program after a year.’</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-kevin-porter-jr-trade-thunder" rel="noopener">Porter was later traded</a> to the Oklahoma City Thunder and immediately waived and became a free agent. However, his NBA future looks murky after the string of accusations <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-kevin-porter-jr-ex-girlfriend-claims-he-didnt-hit-her-on-same-day-hes-traded-to-thunder-waived" rel="noopener">involving him and his former girlfriend.</a></p><p>Porter and his representation are looking forward to moving on from these allegations. This was a move the Rockets made in order to get rid of Porter, as he had become a distraction to the team amid his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-kevin-porter-jr-ex-girlfriend-claims-he-didnt-hit-her-on-same-day-hes-traded-to-thunder-waived" rel="noopener">ongoing domestic assault investigation</a>.</p><p>With the 2023-24 NBA season set to begin shortly, the Rockets decided to waive Robinson-Earl on Monday in order to get their <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1716518269857989014?s=20" rel="noopener">roster down to 15 players</a>, first reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania.</p><p>The New York Knicks selected Robinson-Earl, 22, 32nd overall in the 2021 NBA Draft and then traded him to the Thunder. Starting in 36 of the 49 games he played in during his rookie season, the former Villanova Wildcat averaged 7.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while shooting 41.4 percent from the floor. He had missed about half the season with a fracture in his foot.</p><p>This past year, Robinson-Earl missed about two months’ worth of action due to a sprained ankle and was unable to fully crack the Thunder’s nightly rotation.</p><p>Given all the moves Oklahoma City had made this offseason and the fact that they had Chet Holmgren preparing to make his debut in the frontcourt, Robinson-Earl had become expendable. After the trade to Houston, it was a matter of time before they waived him given their roster size so close to the start of the new season.</p><p>Unless picked up by another team, Robinson-Earl will become an unrestricted free agent. This does not bode well at all for Porter’s chances of returning to an NBA court anytime soon, if at all, but new details are emerging regarding the truth of what happened back on September 11, 2023, when the former Rockets guard was first arrested due to the allegations.</p><p>According to Gondrezick, via the New York Post, Porter <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/10/17/rockets-guard-kevin-porter-jr-s-girlfriend-denies-he-strangled-punched-her-in-nyc-hotel/" rel="noopener">did not beat her up</a> and choke her in their room at the Millennium Hilton New York Hotel. She flat out stated that those allegations are “not true” and that the injuries she did sustain did not support the second-degree assault charges the Manhattan prosecutors levied against the former Rockets guard.</p><p>“My injuries don’t support any of those claims,” Gondrezick said. “He didn’t hit me. General manager Rafael Stone and company reportedly have hopes of trading Oladipo’s salary and low-level draft compensation for more help in 2023-24.</p><p>“…now there’s an expectation around the league the Rockets will look to use Oladipo’s $9.5 million salary and further second-round capital to further improve Houston’s roster as the Rockets expect to compete for the play-in tournament this spring,” Jake Fischer of Yahoo! The Rockets’ 2024 first-round pick will go to the Thunder unless it falls in the top-four of the lottery, and owner Tilman Fertitta has made abundantly clear he expects his team to make major improvements in Ime Udoka’s first season on the sidelines.</p><p>The front office followed that directive in free agency, bringing in Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks on lavish multi-year contracts as entrenched starters and cultural tone-setters. Signing Jeff Green and Jock Landale to shore up its depth on the interior was just more evidence of Houston’s plans to compete in 2023-24.</p><p>Porter’s exit could’ve always been addition by subtraction from that perspective. He’s struggled playing within the team concept offensively throughout his career, and it’s unclear how such a notoriously combative personality would’ve taken to playing a reserve role this season behind VanVleet, Jalen Green and Brooks. The Rockets also accounted for Porter’s absence on the depth chart by <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-reggie-bullock-signing-training-camp" rel="noopener">inking veteran wing Reggie Bullock</a> to a minimum contract after he was bought out by the San Antonio Spurs just before training camp.</p><p>With VanVleet, Green and Brooks firmly ahead of him in the pecking order, there was a worry rookie Amen Thompson could struggle to see enough developmental minutes and touches this season even after Porter’s departure. Adding a proven secondary ball handler like Burks, Brogdon or Horton-Tucker would only exacerbate that problematic numbers game for Thompson. Given the flashes of progress he’s shown with his jumper this preseason, there’s also no guarantee the big, hyper-athletic playmaker will impact winning less than Houston’s purported trade targets, either.</p><p>Does Thompson look like the type of player who should have his role further reduced to give the likes of Burks, Brogdon or Horton-Tucker playing time?</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>The vast majority of rookies aren’t good NBA players. Odds are that Thompson’s lack of high-level playing experience and raw scoring chops will keep him from making overtly positive two-way contributions on a nightly basis this season, even if his jumper keeps smoothing out.</p><p>But there’s no need for the Rockets to sacrifice any more long-term growth for short-term success than they already have. The two draft picks the Rockets are sending to the Thunder are the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 2027 second-round pick and the Milwaukee Bucks 2028 second-round pick.</p><p>Porter, 23, who recently had his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-kevin-porter-jr-assault-charges-dropped-amid-recent-arrest" rel="noopener">second-degree assault charge dropped</a> on Monday due to “insufficient evidence,” still faces charges of second-degree strangulation and third-degree assault as a result of this incident with Gondrezick.</p><p>According to the <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/38386284/girlfriend-rockets-kevin-porter-fractured-vertebrae" rel="noopener">official records</a>, Gondrezick told police that arrived at the scene that Porter punched her in the face repeatedly, cutting her above the right eye and causing bruising to her face. Porter also allegedly grabbed her and squeezed her by the neck, causing her difficulty breathing and bruising to her neck area.</p><p>Not too long after Porter was arrested, the Rockets immediately began talking with some teams around the league regarding a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-rockets-actively-engaging-kevin-porter-jr-trade" rel="noopener">potential trade</a>. While there were a few teams interested in making a deal due to Houston offering draft picks as incentive to get out of Porter’s contract, no immediate deal materialized due to organizations wanting more details on the matter. Regardless of the potential outcome in his case, Porter was always likely to be waived if traded.</p><p>As a result of being in the first year of a new contract extension, the Thunder will incur a cap hit of just under $16 million for the 2023-24 season, as well as $1 million next season as a result of Porter’s contract being partially-guaranteed. The Rockets have created a $4.5 million traded player exception for themselves to utilize as a result of this deal with the Thunder.</p><p>Houston now has a little bit of extra flexibility following this trade, as Oladipo’s $9.5 million expiring contract for this season could be utilized in a mid-season trade. As for Robinson-Earl, he supplies the Rockets with another youthful option to develop in their frontcourt.</p><p>The Thunder, who have been known to hoard draft picks through the years, now have two more future picks they can utilize at any moment. Prosecutors claimed that Porter, who was charged with felony assault and strangulation, had forcefully squeezed her neck with his hands, causing her difficulty breathing and resulting in her sustaining a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/disturbing-details-emerge-from-rockets-guard-kevin-porter-jr-s-alleged-attack-on-girlfriend" rel="noopener">fractured neck vertebra</a>.</p><p>Not long after, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-kevin-porter-jr-assault-case-gets-shocking-update-from-kysre-gondrezicks-lawyer" rel="noopener">Gondrezick’s lawyer</a> came out and stated that she does not have a fractured neck vertebra, and she’s always had a congenital condition.</p><p>With Porter’s case being ongoing and the Houston Rockets guard missing the NBA preseason, new reports surfaced on Monday acquitting the 23-year-old from a second-degree assault charge.</p><p>According to the New York Post, Porter did not break his girlfriend’s neck during an alleged fight at their NYC hotel, resulting in prosecutors <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/10/16/kevin-porter-jr-didnt-break-girlfriends-neck-prosecutors/" rel="noopener">dropping one of the assault charges</a> against him in court on Monday. This second-degree assault charge was dropped due to “insufficient evidence,” based on accounts from Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Mirah Curzer.</p><p>Porter still faces charges of second-degree strangulation and third-degree assault as a result of this incident with Gondrezick last month. If convicted of the strangulation charge, Porter could face a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, per NY Post.</p><p>Amid this investigation, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-rockets-actively-engaging-kevin-porter-jr-trade" rel="noopener">Rockets have since looked to trade</a> the former first-round pick, offering draft compensation to teams willing to take on his contract. While there were a couple of teams who inquired about this potential trade with Houston, no real deal ever formed.</p><p>At this time, Porter remains on the Rockets’ roster with the 2023-24 season starting in a week. However, the Rockets did not allow him to show up to the team’s facility for training camp, and he has not participated in any preseason events with the organization. His status with the Rockets remains in doubt.</p><p>“As soon as I heard the allegations, I informed his representatives that he could not be a part of the Houston Rockets,” Rockets GM <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-kevin-porter-jr-houston-gm-update-domestic-violence-allegations" rel="noopener">Rafael Stone told reporters</a> during the team’s media day at the start of October. “They understood, and he has not been with the team, around the team, or had interaction with the team since that time.”</p><p>Porter’s potential return to Houston and the NBA will depend on what the league office determines in this matter, as Stone made it clear that the next steps in this process will defer to the NBA and commissioner Adam Silver.</p><p>Following Monday’s court appearance, Porter is due back in court on Nov. 27.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

On Monday at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/live/fVnULb4RGcg?si=2m1hTVqlf566QRTc" rel="noopener">Rockets Media Day</a>, general manager Rafael Stone gave an update on Porter’s status, claiming that the former first-round pick would not be back with the team.</p><p>“The allegations are deeply troubling,” Stone told the media. “As soon as I heard the allegations, I informed his representatives that he could not be a part of the Houston Rockets. They understood and he has not been with the team, around the team, or had interaction with the team since that time. He will not be here today, and will not be part of training camp.”</p><p>Stone also mentioned that he will defer the next steps in this process to the league office.</p><p>On September 11, Porter was arrested in New York City after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in the hotel they were staying at. His girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick, is a current WNBA free agent who previously played for the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky.</p><p>Since reports of these allegations and his arrest, the Rockets have reached out to several teams to engage in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-rockets-actively-engaging-kevin-porter-jr-trade" rel="noopener">trade talks involving Porter</a>, offering future draft picks as compensation to get out of his contract. While there was initial interest from other organizations, there is no traction on a potential trade at this time.</p><p>As for the league’s investigation into the matter, commissioner Adam Silver spoke on Porter’s status at the league’s recent <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-adam-silver-kevin-porter-jr-domestic-violence-statement" rel="noopener">Board of Governor’s meeting</a>.</p><p>“The allegations here are horrific. There are no questions about that,” Silver firmly stated. “But I don’t know anything more about the actual facts other than reading those allegations. We have a domestic violence policy that was collectively bargained with the player’s association. … While ultimately we’re required to be differential to law enforcement when there’s an investigation, I think this has given us the opportunity, because we are not in season, to take a little bit of time to understand the situation.”</p><p>Porter, 23, has been with the Rockets since the start of the 2020-21 season, starting in a total of 146 games for them the last three seasons. I remember talking to guys in the Houston Rockets organization, higher ups. They were talking about how they were having issues then. Like, ‘we don’t know what to do with him.’ This is when he just got there from Cleveland.”</p><p>Kevin Porter Jr. was indeed traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Rockets in the summer of 2021. Porter has had various off-court issues throughout his career, including being arrested for weapons charges (which were later dropped) as well as an incident where he left a Rockets home game at halftime after having a disagreement with a teammate.</p><p>Now, it is unclear what the next steps are after Porter’s recent arrest in New York City. According to forensic study of the injuries Gondrezick sustained, the initial findings mistook her congenital condition for a cracked vertebra, which could not have come from her quarrel with the Rockets guard. As a result of these findings, Porter and his legal team <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/09/15/rockets-guard-kevin-porter-jr-asking-manhattan-das-office-to-drop-assault-charge-after-revelation-he-didnt-break-girlfriend-kysre-gondrezicks-neck-lawyers/" rel="noopener">are now requesting</a> the Manhattan District Attorney’s office to drop his second-degree felony assault charges, per Priscilla DeGregory of the New York Post. If convicted of that second degree felony assault charge, the Rockets guard could face up to a maximum of seven years in prison.</p><p>Per DeGregory, the DA’s office have now conceded the fact that Gondrezick did not suffer a cracked vertebra as a result of the Rockets’ guard actions. Now, it remains to be seen whether they will be more lenient towards Porter as a result.</p><p>This, however, does not mean that Kevin Porter Jr. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/wnba-news-kysre-gondrezick-breaks-silence-after-alleged-kevin-porter-jr-incident" rel="noopener">is in the clear</a> by any means. The Rockets guard still has two other charges to face even if the DA’s office acquiesces to the request made by Porter’s legal defense team. The second-degree strangulation charge can also land Porter in prison for up to seven years.</p><p>According to the evidence gathered by the prosecution, Porter is allegedly guilty of “repeatedly” punching his partner and “forcefully squeezing her neck” to the point where she had difficulties breathing and experienced “substantial pain”. The Rockets guard’s defense team is arguing that Porter could not have been guilty of repeatedly punching Gondrezick, as the former WNBA player would have sustained a broken jaw or a similar injury if he were.</p><p>Kevin Porter Jr. is due back in court on October 16, where more clarity regarding the situation should come to light. Gondrezick’s lawyer, however, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/major-detail-rockets-kevin-porter-jr-assault-case-wrong-source" rel="noopener">has disputed the claim</a> that Porter struck his client “repeatedly.”</p><p>“Statements that were attributed to her were not her words,” Robert Hantman told FOX News. “She says he didn’t strike her repeatedly. He’s a big guy. If he hit her repeatedly, she’d have a broken jaw.”</p><p>The notion that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/disturbing-details-emerge-from-rockets-guard-kevin-porter-jr-s-alleged-attack-on-girlfriend" rel="noopener">Porter’s alleged strangulation</a> of Gondrezick caused a fractured vertebra—as specified in the criminal complaint against him—has also been called into question. She has previously written for Lineups.com and is a big fan of all Bay Area sports.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">WNBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested Monday for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/disturbing-details-emerge-from-rockets-guard-kevin-porter-jr-s-alleged-attack-on-girlfriend" rel="noopener">allegedly assaulting</a> his girlfriend and WNBA free agent Kysre Gondrezick at the Millennium Hilton hotel in New York.</p><p>Porter Jr. allegedly punched Gondrezick multiple times and put his hands around her neck to strangle her.  The alleged abuse continued up until Gondrezick ran out into the hallway, where she was found by hotel employees. 911 was called and Porter Jr. was then arrested. She was later hospitalized following the attack and found to have a fractured vertebra in her neck. The police released Porter Jr. Tuesday on $75,000 bail.</p><p>On Thursday, Gondrezick’s attorney Robert Hantman <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/09/13/kysre-gondrezicks-lawyer-breaks-silence-on-alleged-kevin-porter-assault/?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_medium=social" rel="noopener">issued a statement</a> on her behalf.</p><p>“Ms. Gondrezick wants to express her deep appreciation for the public’s support and prayers. In regards to our client, much that has been written in the press attributing statements to her are misleading and inaccurate. She has not granted nor released any statements on her own volition,” via Ian Mohr of the New York Post.</p><p>“She asks everyone to respect her privacy and avoid speculation as to what occurred and refrain from disclosing any misleading statements as to Mr. Porter. She asks that the press and all officials refrain from any judgment and speculation on this matter which will be rectified properly and with integrity. Thank you!”</p><p>Kysre Gondrezick previously played for the Indiana Fever and attended training camp for the Chicago Sky, but didn’t make the roster. She has been a free agent for over a year and also works as a model. Be sure to follow him on Twitter @BrettSiegelNBA.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Houston Rockets find themselves in a very bad situation with 2019 first-round pick Kevin Porter Jr. right ahead of the start of training camp.</p><p>Earlier this week, Porter was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-kevin-porter-jr-arrested-allegedly-assaulting-wnba-girlfriend" rel="noopener">arrested</a> in New York City after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. Since being taken into custody, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/disturbing-details-emerge-from-rockets-guard-kevin-porter-jr-s-alleged-attack-on-girlfriend" rel="noopener">more details</a> from the incident have come to light, as Porter apparently left the women with a fractured neck vertebra and a cut above her right eye at the hotel they were staying at in Manhattan.</p><p>On Wednesday, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that the Rockets were <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-houstons-desperate-kevin-porter-jr-plan-amid-shocking-assault-charge" rel="noopener">exploring trade possibilities</a> for Porter in attempts to replace him with a player who can contribute during the 2023-24 season. Charania added <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1702396724210266128?s=20" rel="noopener">more details</a> to this report on Thursday, as Houston is now “actively engaged with multiple teams” on a potential trade.</p><p>With this incident still being under investigation by the authorities, as well as the NBA, Porter’s career in the league is very much in doubt. The Rockets are looking to move the 23-year-old in order to replace him before the start of the 2023-24 season and they are dangling draft picks in front of teams as trade bait to try get Porter off their roster.</p><p>The general assumption around the league is that any team that potentially trades for Porter will eventually waive him as a result of his domestic violence case.</p><p>The four-year, $72.6 million contract that he signed with Houston in 2022 is just now beginning. Porter is supposed to make $15.86 million during the 2023-24 season before his contract becomes partially-guaranteed during the 2024-25 season, followed by being non guaranteed during the 2025-26 season. The NBA can potentially void this contract under the provisions of the Domestic Violence Policy in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.</p><p>“The allegations here are horrific. There are no questions about that,” Commissioner Adam Silver firmly stated on Wednesday at the league’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-adam-silver-kevin-porter-jr-domestic-violence-statement" rel="noopener">Board of Governors meeting</a>. “But I don’t know anything more about the actual facts other than reading those allegations. We have a domestic violence policy that was collectively bargained with the player’s association… I think here, when we’re not in season, there is a little bit more of an opportunity to absorb more of what’s happening before we act. I think if it were a case when we were in the middle of the season, we would be compelled to do something faster.</p><p>“And so, while ultimately we’re required to be differential to law enforcement when there’s an investigation, I think this has given us the opportunity, because we are not in season, to take a little bit of time to understand the situation.”</p><p>Porter has spent the last three seasons of his now four-year playing career with the Rockets. In 146 games with the team, he has averaged 17.2 points, 6.0 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game.</p><p>It is not hard to believe that his NBA career is coming to an end, especially given that the league does not condone any domestic violence chargers whatsoever.
