Beasley was previously with the Milwaukee Bucks last season among a bevy of other teams in his career.</p><p>The 27-year old guard has been in the NBA for eight seasons and besides the Bucks, he started his career on the Denver Nuggets then was on the Minnesota Timberwolves until 2022. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/damian-lillard-favored-to-win-2024-3-point-contest-over-tyrese-haliburton-malik-beasley">Beasley would then</a> be on the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2022-23 season before coming to the Bucks. He would act in a supporting role to the likes of stars Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, Khris Middleton, and others on Milwaukee.</p><h2><b>Pistons have expressed interest in Beasley before</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Malik-Beasley-talking-to-the-official-during-the-Bucks-Game-5-win-to-the-Pacers.jpg"><figcaption>Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Last season with Milwaukee, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-malik-beasley-sets-franchise-record-thats-hard-to-believe-ray-allen-didnt-achieve">Beasley averaged</a> 11.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 44.3 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from the three-point line. Some may not see it as a total shock that Beasley went to the Pistons since it was reported by <a href="https://hoopshype.com/2024/07/06/malik-beasley-has-drawn-interest-from-pistons-pelicans/" rel="noopener">Michael Scotto of HoopsHype</a> that there was interest from Detroit.</p><p>“Before the Dallas Mavericks agreed to a sign-and-trade deal with Klay Thompson, Beasley was the team’s top backup option, league sources told HoopsHype. The Detroit Pistons have also expressed interest in Beasley and have flirted with offering the 27-year-old guard a one-year deal,” Scotto wrote. “However, Detroit has held off for now amid trade discussions with other teams to act as a salary dump destination for draft pick compensation, league sources told HoopsHype.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pistons-news-j-b-bickerstaff-breaks-silence-head-coach">Besides the Pistons</a>, Beasley also received interest from the New Orleans Pelicans since they believe that he could “stretch the floor” alongside their main, featured star in Zion Williamson. Also reported by Scotto, the Pelicans were looking to trade for a center, so it is likely that their focus went away from the Florida State product.</p><p>“Lastly, the New Orleans Pelicans are interested in signing Beasley to stretch the floor around Zion Williamson, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto said. “The Pelicans are also eying a trade for a center while clearing some salary off their books.”</p><h2><b>Beasley joins Detroit who has been active this summer</b></h2><p>It is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grading-pistons-2-year-deal-tobias-harris">also likely that the Pistons</a> gave Beasley the best contract as his last contract was a one-year deal from the Milwaukee Bucks worth $2.7 million. Since the Pistons are coming off of a dreadful season where they had the worst record in the NBA, it could have been a hard pitch to make unless the money along with it was right and that was apparently the case.</p><p>Beasley can contribute as a complimentary piece for any team, especially to boost their three-point shooting since he has great efficiency from beyond the arch. As said before, he played college basketball at Florida State where he was selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pistons-news-tobias-harris-reuniting-52-million-contract">The Pistons have</a> been very active this summer where they gave a large $226 million contract extension to their 22-year old main star in point guard Cade Cunningham as well as giving $52 million to former Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit star from 2015-2018 Tobias Harris. Adding Beasley to that mix, that is a solid start to the summer compared to other teams that have been silent during this free agency and signing period.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pistons-news-cade-cunningham-226-million-max-contract-extension">Detroit will try in anyway</a> to improve after a disastrous last season where they went 14-68 which put them last in the Eastern Conference and the worst record in the NBA, close to the Washington Wizards who had 15 wins. After sorely disappointing following a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-grading-the-3-team-russell-westbrook-dangelo-russell-trade" rel="noopener">midseason trade to the Los Angeles Lakers</a> a year ago, the veteran sharpshooter opted to sign a minimum deal with the Bucks in free agency, turning down a bigger offer from the purple and gold for the lure of a guaranteed role with a top-tier title contender.</p><p>Halfway through the regular season, Beasley’s decision has more than paid off. He hasn’t just started each of Milwaukee’s 38 games next to Damian Lillard in the backcourt, but re-established himself as one of the league’s most reliable long-range shooters while rising to the challenge of defending the opposing team’s top perimeter threat on a near nightly basis.</p><p>Beasley is overstretched in that “stopper” role, especially against quality competition. The Bucks could use another impact rotation player before the trade deadline comes and goes, no doubt looking for a wing better suited to defend stars than Beasley. Even if Bucks general manager Jon Horst and company manage to bring in that type of player with extremely limited stable of assets, though, Beasley’s place on the team is secure. The league leader in three-point percentage on high volume is pretty much guaranteed regular minutes, especially when he’s not an abject defensive liability.</p><p>Beasley <a href="https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1747664257120972960" rel="noopener">seems fully confident</a> his red-hot 48.1% long-range shooting this season is no fluke, too. Asked if he’s the “best shooter” in the NBA, the 27-year-old definitely didn’t disagree.</p><p>“Yes, I do feel like I’m one of the best shooters in the league,” Beasley told Shams Charania of The Athletic and STADIUM on Tuesday. “Obviously there’s lots of guys who can put the ball in the hole. I’m not trying to be cocky or anything, I’m just confident right now. I’m real confident in my work, I’ve been putting in work every day, and it’s showing. Like I said, not to be complacent, that’s the main thing I’m focused on right now. He’s shot at least 35.7% from deep on a heavy diet of difficult attempts ever since 2018-19, his third year in the league.</p><p>An invitation to the three-point contest at All-Star weekend has eluded him regardless, something he’s actively working to change as the midseason festivities in Indianapolis loom a few weeks from now.</p><p>“I feel like I have deserved to go for the last couple years, but especially this year. I’m leading the league in three-point percentage,” Beasley said. “God forbid, I wanna continue that. Yeah, I deserve to be in the three-point contest. I’ve always wanted to be in it. I think I can win it. I’ve been talking a lot of talk with [Damian Lillard], he’s been helping me out. Other than that, I believe I should be in it. I’ve worked hard and I’m shooting at a high rate right now.”</p><p>Beasley hasn’t just been getting help from Lillard about being included in this year’s event, either. He <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-malik-beasley-hopes-to-face-against-damian-lillard-in-3pt-contest" rel="noopener">wants to beat the reigning three-point shootout champion</a> head-to-head, too, recently insisting there would be a “new sheriff in town” if he’s invited to Indianapolis.</p><h2>Los Angeles lights weren’t too bright for Malik Beasley</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/lakers-news-malik-beasley-reflects-on-his-time-in-los-angeles-1.webp"></figure><p>Malik Beasley isn’t just lighting it up from deep this season. He’s hitting a solid 53.3% of his twos as well, the second-highest clip of his career and a nearly five-point spike compared to last season. Who could use Beasley’s blend of constant floor-spacing, hyper-efficient scoring and willing one-on-one defense? Pretty much any team in basketball, actually, but especially the three-point starved Lakers.</p><p>Beasley started 14 games with Los Angeles shortly after arriving as part of the Russell Westbrook trade, slotting in to play a very similar role next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis he’s thriving in alongside Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo. He just never found his footing as a Laker, though, shooting just 34.0% from deep as a starter before being sent to the bench then phased out of the rotation entirely come playoff time.</p><p>Were the bright light of LA too much for Beasley? That’s been a common talking point among Lakers fans amid his success in Milwaukee, but Beasley swears other factors contributed to his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-malik-beasley-reflects-on-his-time-in-los-angeles" rel="noopener">disappointing tenure in purple and gold</a>.</p><p>“Obviously LA is LA. Lights are always brighter, but I live for those moments. I’m not running away from the pressure. I like pressure,’ he said. “I don’t think it was necessarily the pressure of the lights. Like I said, I think I had off-court things I could’ve been better at and from my past issues, just focusing on that. Other than that, nah, I didn’t make the shots that I wanted to. The seven-year vet <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-malik-beasley-reflects-on-his-time-in-los-angeles" rel="noopener">recently reflected</a> on his brief stint with the Los Angeles Lakers and regaining his rhythm with the Bucks. He also revealed via Chris B. Haynes of Bleacher Report that he <a href="https://twitter.com/ChrisBHaynes/status/1743403633692274760" rel="noopener">turned down more money</a> in free agency from the Lakers and Dallas Mavericks to sign with the Bucks.</p><p>“Free agency was tough for me in a couple of ways. I didn’t know where I wanted to be and what type of deal I wanted to do because of my production. A lot of people don’t base it off what you did the last couple of years overall, it kind of goes off your last couple of games,” Beasley said. “The Lakers wanted to re-sign me but on a smaller deal for about $6 million, I could have gotten more if I would have stayed probably, also the Dallas Mavericks, I had a chance with Dallas. It began during the NBA in-season tournament when the Pacers eliminated the Bucks and Tyrese Haliburton used the ‘Dame Time’ celebration. It continued into the season f<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-adrian-griffins-hilarious-giannis-antetokounmpo-game-ball-reference-after-win-vs-magic" rel="noopener">ollowing a record night</a> by Giannis Antetokounmpo. At the end of the day though, the playoffs are what counts and Bucks guard Malik Beasley had <a href="https://twitter.com/ChrisBHaynes/status/1743405252500730330" rel="noopener">some words</a> for the Pacers via Chris B. Haynes of Bleacher Report.</p><p>“There’s certain teams that they just got your number. We’re still trying to figure that out because I know we’re going to play them in the playoffs,” Beasley said. “And boy it’s not going to be pretty, it’s not going to be pretty for them. . .the way the league is shaping up right now, I think we’re going to play them in the playoffs at two-seven or one-eight, so we’re gonna see.”</p><p>Rivalries have always been good for the NBA and have drawn fan interest and there’s no doubt that after what’s transpired this season that a Bucks and Pacers playoff series would be highly entertaining. Even though the Pacers seem to have the Bucks number this season, Malik Beasley is right in that the playoffs are a different animal. Beating a team four times out of seven is a difficult task when you’re a lower seed as the Pacers figure to be.</p><p>Right now, the Bucks hold the second seed in the Eastern Conference at 25-10. The Pacers actually wouldn’t face the Bucks in the postseason began today as they currently hold the fifth seed at 19-14.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

One of those moves involved Utah Jazz. The Lakers ended up trading Russell Westbrook to the Jazz and received Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt in return. Beasley was expected to improve the Lakers three-point shooting but he ended up struggling. He’s since found his rhythm <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-giannis-antetokounmpos-eyes-will-light-up-over-what-malik-beasleys-addition-means" rel="noopener">this season</a> with the Milwaukee Bucks. In a recent interview with Chris B. Haynes of Bleacher Report, Beasley <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1743407154407555334" rel="noopener">detailed</a> his half a season with the Lakers including his struggles.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">“It was more of the past things that happened in my life that caused me to not play at my best.. It wasn’t like getting in trouble, it was more of the past things that happened in my life that caused me to not play at my best,” Beasley said. “It was a lot going on. I wasn’t the player I wanted to be and I hold myself accountable. I wasn’t putting in the extra work as I am now and it showed. It had nothing to do with the system or anything.”</p><p>It sounds like Malik Beasley had quite a bit going on during the half a season he played with the Lakers. He was never really able to get into a consistent rhythm. He struggled in the playoffs averaging only 3.0 points per game and shooting 29.4 percent from the field and 26.9 percent from the three-point line.</p><p>This season, he’s been a much more consistent player for the Bucks. He’s been averaging 11.6 points per game, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists with splits of 48.8 percent shooting from the field, 46.9 percent shooting from the three-point line and 66.7 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Someday maybe it will -- especially when he's been working for ClutchPoints since August 2022.)</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>To say that the Milwaukee Bucks have been <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-giannis-antetokounmpo-fortunate-heroics-mask-major-milwaukee-problem" rel="noopener">lackluster on the defensive end</a> to begin the 2023-24 season would be an understatement. The Bucks, in the aftermath of trading away defensive ace Jrue Holiday, have been starting two below-average defenders in their backcourt, with Damian Lillard and Malik Beasley both struggling to contain dribble penetration. And on Thursday night, Beasley was the subject of an embarrassing defensive lowlight in the Bucks’ 126-124 loss to the Indiana Pacers.</p><p>Beasley was always going to struggle when guarding Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton. Haliburton has a deep bag of tricks, and he’s a master of changing speeds and manipulating defenses to manufacture tight openings. But the Pacers point guard did not need to do all that during this play. All Haliburton needed to do was point at Beasley’s left to freeze the Bucks defender, as he <a href="https://twitter.com/polarfall/status/1722811550531223871" rel="noopener">expected a screen that never came</a>, leading to easy dribble penetration for the Pacers and an eventual and-one layup for Bennedict Mathurin.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">This Beasley defense is something special in my experience of watching NBA. <a href="https://t.co/xynC03492w">pic.twitter.com/xynC03492w</a></p><p>— Skyfall (@polarfall) <a href="https://twitter.com/polarfall/status/1722811550531223871?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 10, 2023</a></p></blockquote><p><script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p></figure><p>That defense won’t fly at all during five-on-five pickup games at recreational centers, let alone in the NBA. It’s a marvel just how unaware and lethargic Malik Beasley looked during that play, and it’s that kind of perimeter defensive activity that explains why the Bucks are currently ranked <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/defense?dir=A&amp;sort=DEF_RATING&amp;SeasonType=Regular+Season" rel="noopener">25th in defensive rating</a> in the association.</p><p>The Bucks don’t have much in the way of above-average defensive personnel, which will overtax Beasley on that end of the floor. Head coach Adrian Griffin even said before the season began that the 6’5 guard will have to <a href="https://behindthebuckpass.com/2023/10/09/coach-griffin-statement-bucks-malik-beasley/" rel="noopener">take the toughest assignments</a> most nights, and from the looks of it, there’s simply no way that doing so is sustainable for a Bucks team with championship aspirations in the aftermath of trading for star point guard Damian Lillard.</p><p>At this point, with the Bucks looking for some defensive stability at the perimeter, there’s certainly an opportunity for second-year forward Marjon Beauchamp to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-most-pleasant-surprise-2023-24-nba-season" rel="noopener">carve a bigger role in the rotation</a>. This kind of defense from Malik Beasley, after all, simply won’t cut it, especially when the Bucks are already starting another lacking defender in the backcourt.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Lakers are now under the $172 million luxury tax threshold, enabling them to use the full non-taxpayer midlevel exception in free agency (estimated at $12.4 million) and the bi-annual exception ($4.5 million). The Lakers are <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-lakers-increasingly-confident-about-signing-bruce-brown-amid-conflicting-reports" rel="noopener">reportedly confident</a> they can sign Bruce Brown via the NTMLE. They also <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-lakers-dennis-schroder-nba-free-agency-bruce-brown" rel="noopener">want to re-sign</a> Dennis Schroder. Eric Gordon, Brook Lopez (!), Cam Reddish, and Donte DiVincenzo are <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/37935292/sources-lakers-decline-malik-beasley-option-waive-mo-bamba">options</a>, too. The Lakers could use a portion of the NTMLE or the bi-annual to bring back Lonnie Walker IV.</p><p>The Lakers could have dealt Beasley and/or Bamba on draft night or retained their contracts as trade pieces down the road. The Lakers will <a href="https://twitter.com/mcten/status/1674513038265966593" rel="noopener">keep in touch</a> with both players’ agents and could bring them back under reworked contracts, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.</p><p>Beasley, 24, averaged 11.1 points in 26 games (14 starts) after being acquired at the trade deadline from the Utah Jazz. He never found his groove from 3 (35.4%) and fell out of the playoff rotation. A return to the Lakers would not be ideal for him unless he wanted to spend much of next season on the bench again. Golden State Warriors</h2><p>As long as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are running the show for the Golden State Warriors, they are going to need shooters. Again, this is where Malik Beasley can come in on a team friendly contract that the Warriors desperately need. Looming contracts for Steve Kerr and Draymond Green are where the Warriors are going to have to prioritize their money, money that is already handcuffed by the max contract they gave Jordan Poole last NBA free agency. If the Warriors want to maintain their style of basketball and find players for cheap that can fit, they should look at Malik Beasley.</p><p>Malik Beasley would be a perfect fit for the Warriors because not only is he a great shooter, but he specializes in the catch-and-shoot. That is the exact type of player that works alongside Curry and playmaker Draymond Green, exemplified by the success that Klay Thompson has had. Beasley does not need the ball to find success, which would be imperative given he would most likely be in the second unit playing with a ball-dominant Poole. As the Warriors figure out many current obstacles this offseason, they should take a look at Malik Beasley once NBA free agency begins.</p><h2>3. Chicago Bulls</h2><p>While the Bulls were one of the better defensive and rebounding teams in the NBA this season, they really struggled on the offensive end. When they did succeed on offense it was close to the rim and via the midrange; this is not a surprise given their three primary scorers were Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic. Adding Malik Beasley would give the Bulls a dynamic three-point shooter that they desperately missed this year.</p><p>Coby White is arguably the best shooter on the Bulls, but he is at his best when shooting off of the dribble. Neither of these two are stars and they aren’t exactly the most important players on the roster, but still, it will be very interesting to see how the Lakers decide to act with regard to the future of these two studs now that they are both expected to enter NBA free agency this summer.</p><p>For starters, Lonnie Walker’s current contract will come to an end after this season. Thanks to his strong showing this year for the Lakers, the 6-foot-4 shooting guard is expected to command a bigger deal in free agency compared to the $6.5 million he pocketed this past season. According to an anonymous Western Conference executive, the Lakers might not be able to meet Walker’s demands:</p><p>“I can’t see how they can pay him, <a href="https://heavy.com/sports/los-angeles-lakers/lebron-james-retirement-free-agents/" rel="noopener">he is probably a goner</a>,” the exec told Sean Deveney of Heavy.com.</p><p>As for Beasley, the Lakers actually have a team option on his contract for next season.
