However, the hard fouls from <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-old-nikola-jokic-beef-returns-full-force-lunatic-top-20-take">Nikola Jokic and Markieff Morris in 2021 on one another sparked their rivalry</a>. NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal spoke with Morris about the play, questioning whether or not the foul was dirty. He argued against what Morris did against Jokic.</p><p>While the two-time MVP is not a dirty player, Jokic is definitely a physical one. His passing and shooting ability are his calling cards. However, the Serbian superstar is a capable bruiser, setting the tone for Denver down low. The physicality he plays with has led to multiple confrontations throughout his career, including the one with Morris in 2021.</p><p>At the time, Morris was a role player on a Heat team coming off a deep playoff run. Miami’s success relied on their toughness, and their entire roster embodied their rough style of play. In O’Neal’s opinion, though, the contact between Morris and Jokic <a href="https://youtu.be/eYBs_USe6BY?t=1029" rel="noopener">was unnecessary</a>. The former Lakers center defended Denver’s big man on Wednesday’s episode of <i>The Big Podcast with Shaq.</i></p><p>“I know, but you’re my boy,” O’Neal told Morris. “And I know if I hit you, you’re going to hit me back and I know if you hit me I’m going to hit you back. So if you hit him first and he hits you back that’s a cheap shot?”</p><p>“If he hit me from behind I think that’s a cheap shot,” Morris said, defending himself. “I’m physically walking away so I’m not even like in the mode of knowing you’re about to hit me. It’s like a car crash.”</p><p>Jokic and the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-nikola-jokic-denver-wins-first-championship-game-5-demolition-heat">Nuggets got their revenge against the Heat in the 2023 NBA Finals</a>. Denver beat Miami 4-1 in that series to help their center secure the first title of his career. He has not averaged more than 10 minutes a game since the 2022-23 season. Additionally, he’s averaged only 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game since the 2020-21 campaign.</p><p>So when he initially heard the news that he was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-markieff-morris-maxi-kleber-defend-luka-doncic-amid-reports-of-conditioning-issues">traded to the Lakers by the Dallas Mavericks</a> ahead of the 2025 NBA trade deadline, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ccn-jmvuCL8&amp;t=182s" rel="noopener">he was confused</a>.</p><p>“When it first happened, I was in shock because, obviously, you know, I haven’t played in a couple of years. My first thing was ‘Who the hell wants me?'” Morris told his brother Marcus during a recent episode of the “TWIN$nWIN$” podcast. “Who wants to trade for me?”</p><p>But Markieff also said that reaction came before he learned that superstar guard Luka Doncic was part of the trade.</p><p>Markieff had only played seven games for the Mavericks before the trade, scoring just a total of 12 points with eight rebounds and six assists through 41 minutes, so the idea that a team wanted his services appeared to come as a surprise for the 35-year-old former Kansas Jayhawks star. It only made much more sense to him once the complete details of the trade were laid out.</p><h2><b>Markieff Morris returns to the Lakers</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Indiana-Pacers-forward-Jarace-Walker-5-moves-the-ball-against-Los-Angeles-Lakers-forward-Markieff-Morris-88.jpg"><figcaption>Gary A. Meanwhile, Dallas got Anthony Davis, Max Christie and the Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick. As for the Jazz, they received Jalen Hood-Schifino and a pair of second-round picks.</p><p>Markieff, however, will have the power to decide which direction he will go after the end of the 2024-25 NBA season, as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavericks-news-dallas-markieff-morris-contract-2024-25-season">he is on an expiring contract</a> that is paying him just north of $2 million this campaign.</p><p>While not expected to produce ample numbers for the Lakers, Markieff brings experience, toughness and depth to his new team’s frontcourt.</p><p>Markieff, who was selected in the first round (13th overall) by the Phoenix Suns in the 2011 NBA draft, is familiar with the environment in LA. Doncic was traded alongside Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis and Max Christie, with Jalen Hood-Schifino heading to the Utah Jazz.</p><p>The trade caught everyone completely off guard and by surprise, with many even thinking ESPN’s Shams Charania had his social media account hacked. Within 20 minutes, other NBA insiders confirmed ESPN’s report.</p><p>Among the reasons the Mavs reportedly traded away the 25-year old Luka Doncic were concerns about his conditioning. The Slovenian superstar has dealt with a handful of calf issues over his young career, and a few outlets reported his fondness for alcohol.</p><p>On Tuesday morning, following Luka Doncic’s introductory press conference at the Lakers practice facility, Markieff Morris made sure to shut down those criticisms.</p><p>“He’s a great guy, man,” <a href="https://twitter.com/TomerAzarly/status/1886835619692675199" rel="noopener">Markieff Morris told ClutchPoints</a> on Tuesday morning. “Super low maintenance. Don’t need much. One of the only guys I’ve been on a team with that’ll play though any injury if he can get on the court. I hear stuff about him not being in shape, but if you can go in an NBA game and get 30, 15, and 10 like it’s nothing, then I don’t know what shape is. I don’t… I’m confused. You’ll see it really soon. With stuff like that and attention, I think there’s always positive and negative things that come out. But, you know, he’s a very good person, he’s a very hard worker, he’s a very great teammate. He’s grown over the years and he’s always pushed his teammates to become better. I have nothing but positive things to say about him.”</p><p>One outlet even <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-mavericks-conditioning-concerns-big-motive-for-luka-doncic-lakers">reported that the new Lakers’ star was eyeing 270 lbs</a> after missing the last month due to a calf strain.</p><p>“The biggest thing, when talking to people around the league, was the concern about Luka’s conditioning. As we all know, and as has been reported, he’s gotten up to 270 pounds. The Dallas Mavericks were feeling like it could end up being a Joel Embiid-type situation.”</p><p>In just 22 games this season, Luka Doncic is averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 7.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. The Mavericks were rumored to have interest in re-signing Morris throughout the offseason. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavericks-news-markieff-morris-message-dallas-free-agency">Morris also seemed to have interest in returning to Dallas</a>. Sure enough, an agreement was reached but the terms of the deal have yet to be announced.</p><p>Morris, 35, is not going to make or break the Mavs’ season. However, Mavericks players appeared to appreciate having Morris on the roster throughout the 2023-24 season. He only averaged 8.3 minutes per outing across 26 games played, but Morris’ veteran leadership was crucial to the team’s success.</p><p>The forward has played at the NBA level since 2011. He understands what it takes to compete in the NBA. Morris is able to offer advice to younger players while leading by example during practices. He is well-respected and his leadership certainly played a role in the Mavericks’ decision to agree to re-sign him.</p><h2><b>What Markieff Morris move means for Mavericks’ roster</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Markieff-Morris-before-game-2-of-the-2024-NBA-Finals.jpg"><figcaption>David Butler II-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Mavs roster was already set with 15 contracts. That means the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-mavericks-aj-lawson-roster-markieff-morris">Mavericks will need to clear a spot on the roster</a>. Perhaps Dallas will consider making a trade. If not, though, the Mavs may need to release a player.</p><p>Dwight Powell is the Mavs’ longest tenured player and Dallas seems to want to keep him on the roster. Powell doesn’t offer much production at this point, but he does provide respectable depth.</p><p>AJ Lawson’s two-way deal was converted to an NBA contract in 2023-24. With the Mavs likely not being willing to move on from Powell, Lawson’s future with the team may be in question with the Morris move.</p><p>Olivier-Maxence Proser and Jaden Hardy are young players with especially intriguing ceilings. The same can be said for Lawson, but the chances of Dallas moving on from Prosper or Hardy appear to be slim.</p><p>Dante Exum may be another candidate, but he does provide necessary guard depth.</p><p>The Mavs will need to make a difficult decision. Lawson is only 24 years old and has an intriguing ceiling. So why would Dallas consider bringing Morris back instead of keeping Lawson on the roster?</p><h2><b>Markieff Morris’ underlying impact on Mavericks</b></h2><p>The Mavericks just finished their NBA Summer League campaign. Before Summer League began, a number of young players mentioned that Morris has been a pivotal leader for the roster. In fact, a number of players who were on the Mavericks this past season often discussed Morris’ impact on the team.</p><p>Morris, 34, did not receive many minutes during the 2023-24 campaign. He averaged just 8.3 minutes per outing. Nevertheless, his leadership was unquestionably crucial to Dallas.</p><p>Morris seems to share the Mavs’ interest in a reunion, as it was previously reported that the veteran was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavericks-news-markieff-morris-recruiting-twin-brother-marcus-dallas">recruiting his brother Marcus to Dallas</a>. Morris likely would not have done that if he wanted to join a different team.</p><p>The Mavericks’ roster situation would make it difficult to add both Markieff and Marcus. Markieff Morris fully intends to return to the Dallas Mavericks in NBA free agency, but he wants some company. The veteran forward, who has spent the last year and a half with the Mavs, is <a href="https://twitter.com/NationMffl/status/1808492953746182205" rel="noopener">making it known</a> that he thinks his twin brother would be a great addition to the team.</p><p>“Marcus Morris would be perfect!” Markieff posted on X in response to a list of available free agents the Mavericks should pursue to round out their roster. It has been a while since the former Kansas Jayhawks stars shared an NBA locker room, as they have each gone on to be valuable supporting cast members for various teams after spending three years together on the Phoenix Suns (2012-15).</p><p>A professional reunion in Dallas is feasible. The organization could covet the depth and experience the Morris twins bring. Neither should command a sizable workload or cost much money. The good vibes that would potentially emanate from the squad’s sidelines may be worth it for the reigning <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavericks-news-luka-doncic-reaction-nba-finals">Western Conference champions</a>.</p><p>The 34-year-olds each saw their respective NBA seasons come to an end courtesy of the Boston Celtics and could be motivated to band together on the Mavericks in pursuit of a championship (Markieff Morris won a title in 2020 with the Los Angeles Lakers). The duo has found itself <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-marcus-morris-nikola-jokics-brothers-go-back-and-forth-in-twitter-battle">in tense situations</a> before, but they would surely relish the chance to be teammates at least one more time.</p><p>The front office is not operating on sentimentality, though. It will need to be convinced that Marcus Morris fits their plan for the 2024-25 campaign. His brother seems to be doing his best on that front.</p><h2><b>Can the Morris brothers enjoy an epic moment with Mavericks?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Markieff-Morris-guards-Marcus-Morris.jpg"><figcaption>Gary A. The Mavs can present them with the opportunity to obtain this special feat by inking them each to a contract this summer.</p><p>They are reportedly interested in re-signing Markieff, but they may have other ideas on how to fill out their remaining roster slots. Marcus has a compelling case to make, though. He served meaningful roles on the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers over the last five years and averaged 6.4 points in 16.7 minutes for the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers in 2023-24.</p><p>He would presumably earn more minutes than his brother, who played in just 26 games for Dallas this past season. Beyond what they can add in the box score, though, these twins possess a level of grit that could appeal to head coach Jason Kidd. Marcus Morris even dropped 25 points for the Cavs in the series-clinching defeat to the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, showcasing the amount of tenacity that still lies within the veteran.</p><p>These brothers have been connected since the beginning of their professional careers, with Markieff Morris directly preceding Marcus in the 2011 NBA Draft. Although the NBA was forced to suspend its season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-jarred-vanderbilt-explains-life-easier-playing-lebron-james-anthony-davis" rel="noopener">Lakers ultimately were victorious</a> in the league’s Orlando bubble, paying <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-petition-to-save-kobe-bryant-mural-in-la-gaining-traction" rel="noopener">tribute to Bryant</a> by taking home the franchise’s 17th championship.</p><p>Now, Markieff Morris, who was a member of that Los Angeles team,  is speaking out about the impact that Bryant’s untimely passing had on <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1704225343618576497" rel="noopener">the team’s decision</a> to power forward in the bubble.</p><p>“The sh*t that happened with Kobe [Bryant] was like we got to get it done for him,” said Morris, per Showtime Basketball’s <i>All The Smoke</i> podcast. “We (Lakers) were one of the teams that was pushing more for the bubble because we knew we had the best chance of winning.”</p><p>There was a time during the 2020 NBA season when it was unclear whether or not the season would actually resume amidst the pandemic. However, ultimately, Adam Silver and company announced that the league would resume from Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando. The Lakers went on one of the most dominant postseason runs in recent memory that year, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, winning the first three rounds in five games before knocking off the Miami Heat in six to win the NBA Finals.</p><p>The victory was a fitting tribute to Kobe Bryant, who took home five championships for the Lakers during his time in Los Angeles. As of Saturday, that became a reality. Per Mavs PR, the team <a href="https://twitter.com/MavsPR/status/1703076352365138196" rel="noopener">is bringing back</a> the veteran forward after he came over from the Brooklyn Nets in the Kyrie Irving blockbuster trade back in February.</p><p>Although Morris didn’t play much when he arrived in Dallas with 4.5 points in just 8.8 minutes per night, he could be a key bench piece for the organization depending on the roles that Richaun Holmes and Grant Williams carve out, plus draft picks Dereck Lively II and Olivier Maxence-Prosper.</p><p>Morris has been in the league since 2011-12, debuting with the Phoenix Suns. He spent 4.5 seasons in the desert before moving on to the Washington Wizards. Morris has also had stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat, and the Los Angeles Lakers, whom he won a title with in 2020.</p><p>His time with the Heat came with no shortage of controversy in 2020-21 because of how little he played due to the cheap shot foul from Nikola Jokic. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/markieff-morris-nikola-jokic-warning-2021-cheap-shot" rel="noopener">Morris recently said</a> The Joker is “gonna get his” when they meet again.</p><p>The Mavs look to be in a good spot heading into 2023-24 with a strong roster headlined by Kyrie and Luka. Williams brings stout defense and leadership to the table and he’s a player who will leave everything on the court. And given Morris’ ability to shoot the three-ball, perhaps Jason Kidd will use him a bit more than the second half of last season. When Morris was a member of the Miami Heat, they were on the road to face Jokic and the Denver Nuggets in November 2021. It was what transpired in the middle of this game that drew headlines.</p><p>Looking to stop play and take a foul, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-markieff-morris-admits-to-nightmare-scenario-after-dirty-nikola-jokic-hit" rel="noopener">Morris ran into Jokic</a> and made contact with the two-time MVP’s ribs. As Morris walked away after the foul, the Nuggets big man charged at him and knocked him to the ground from behind. Forced to miss a lot of time with a neck and whiplash injury, Morris still seems to <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1702374165179932802?s=20" rel="noopener">hold a grudge</a> for what happened.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">“What you fining me for? But you know, at the time, I was a little off,” Morris told former NBA player Matt Barnes on Showtime’s All The Smoke podcast. “It was more so with the Miami Heat, they was just trying to protect me from, you know, against me from myself. But I was cleared to play like two weeks after that, they just held me out. It really wasn’t one of those things where I was injured or in pain or anything like that…</p><p>“It was a sucker shot. But he gonna get his though. Don’t trip.”</p><p>Since this incident occurred, Markieff has not played against Jokic. However, his twin brother Marcus Morris has, and he stated on the podcast that he made it a point of emphasis to go after the MVP. As Marcus states, the league was watching him closely since they had a feeling he would retaliate and defend his brother, so nothing ever transpired between him and Jokic.</p><p>It’s interesting that Markieff mentions that he was ready to play again after two weeks and the Heat kept him out, especially in light of the league’s new “load management” rules pertaining to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-news-adam-silver-explains-new-load-management-rules" rel="noopener">player participation</a>.</p><p>On Wednesday, the NBA’s Board of Governors approved new rules that will put an end to teams keeping healthy players and stars out of games. While this would not have necessarily impacted Morris since he isn’t an All-Star or All-NBA talent, the league may have had something to say about Miami keeping him out of games.</p><p>As far as his involvement in what transpired with Jokic, Morris explained what exactly he was doing by fouling Denver’s big man and what the reaction from everyone was after the altercation happened.</p><p>“I put my hand up so he knew I was coming,” Morris continued. “It’s what he did. He tried to jump pass the ball as I’m coming to foul you, like, I don’t know what he was thinking. He made it seem like I was trying to hurt him when it wasn’t… I fouled you and let you know I was going to foul you. Then you hit me from behind, but it’s like ‘you shouldn’t have turned your back.’ Okay.”</p><p>Recently agreeing to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavs-news-javale-mcgee-waived-markieff-morris-contract" rel="noopener">one-year, minimum contract</a> to return to the Dallas Mavericks, Morris will potentially get a chance to see Jokic again early on in the 2023-24 season and hash things out on the same court in which he got injured on a couple of years back. In attempts to surround superstar Luka Doncic with “win-now” talents, the Mavs not only <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavs-news-kyrie-irving-agrees-3-year-126-million-contract-2023-nba-free-agency" rel="noopener">re-signed All-Star guard Kyrie Irving</a> and center Dwight Powell, but they added the likes of Grant Williams, Seth Curry and Derrick Jones Jr. for more depth.</p><p>With training camp just about a month away, Dallas is not done making moves just yet, as big man JaVale McGee now finds his name in headlines. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Mavs are planning to <a href="https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1694062596591137156?s=20" rel="noopener">stretch-and-waive</a> McGee. It seemed likely that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-mavs-guaranteed-javale-mcgee-move-training-camp" rel="noopener">Mavs were going to part ways</a> with  the veteran center this offseason after failing to find a trade partner for him and the writing has been on the wall following his first season in Dallas.</p><p>As a result of waiving McGee, Charania notes that veteran forward Markieff Morris is expected to remain with the team on a new contract. Morris joined the Mavericks at the same time as Irving a season ago, as he was included in the trade with the Brooklyn Nets. In the eight games Morris appeared in with the Mavs last season, he averaged 4.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in about 8.8 minutes per game.</p><p>Under contract through the 2024-25 season, including his player option, McGee’s stretch-and-waive deal with the Mavericks will run through the 2027-28 season and he will make about $2.3 million per year. Upon being officially waived and clearing waivers, the 35-year-old will be eligible to sign with any other team in the league.</p><p>Despite things not working out in Dallas, McGee has had some great moments in his career. He’s always been a strong rebounder, averaging 5.2 rebounds per game over the course of his now 15-year career, and he’s a three-time NBA champion. He won two titles as a member of the Golden State Warriors 2017 and 2018, as well as another title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.</p><p>Both the Warriors and Lakers are two teams who still own an open roster spot this offseason and have shown interest in adding more frontcourt depth. It is possible that they will take a look at McGee once he clears waivers from Dallas.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Denver Nuggets superstar is actually <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-nikola-jokic-jokes-that-paul-millsap-is-playing-like-hes-21-not-77" rel="noopener">one of the funniest dudes</a> in the NBA at the moment. However, in November of 2021, we all saw his dark side after he got involved in a now-infamous altercation with then-Miami Heat forward Markieff Morris.</p><p>For those that require context, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-markieff-morris-blasts-sloppy-fat-boy-nikola-jokic-in-latest-rant-on-injury" rel="noopener">Jokic took exception</a> to a body check foul from Morris during a game, and the Nuggets big man ended up forcefully shoving Morris from behind. This actually led to a neck injury for Morris, who would then be forced to miss a multitude of games because of the knock:</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>Unsurprisingly, Jimmy Butler and the rest of the Heat were incensed by Jokic’s actions. Butler was asked if there are “any hard feelings that linger” from that incident. The Heat talisman decided to play it down, though, but he did drop a truth bomb on the high-profile altercation:</p><p>“I don’t think so,” Butler responded when asked if the previous incident might have any impact on the Finals. “… I don’t think it has too much to do with anything. It’s in the past. … But I will say I wasn’t talking to Jokic. <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPointsApp/status/1664019878855188480" rel="noopener">That wasn’t my beef</a>, so make sure you write that. A lot of other players got involved during that incident, and surely, some harsh words were exchanged between the teams. Butler seems to have taken exception to one particular Nuggets player’s actions during the scuffle, and this was what resulted in Jimmy’s “beef.” Butler did not name who this opposing player was, but with this revelation, perhaps we can determine that it wasn’t actually Jokic the Heat players were waiting for in that infamous tunnel photo.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-miami-emerges-as-favorite-to-sign-dillon-brooks-after-grizzlies-fallout" rel="noopener">Miami Heat</a> star, however, has been relatively drama-free now that he’s in South Beach. Unfortunately for him, his history still turns up every now and again.</p><p>One thing you can say about Butler is that he just wants to win. His unbridled competitive nature sometimes rubs people the wrong way, but for those that really know him, Butler is considered a great teammate. That’s just what it is.’”</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>Whether he likes it or not, however, Jimmy Butler is a bona fide superstar — especially in the NBA Playoffs. The Heat talisman has been nothing short of amazing for Miami in the postseason, and his strong play was what led to a totally unexpected first-round win over Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks.</p><p>Right now, Butler has a chance to lead the Heat to a win against the New York Knicks in Game 5 of the East Semis. As everyone knows, Markieff Morris is also part of the deal despite the fact that, unlike Kyrie, he didn’t ask for a move away from the team.</p><p>So is he bummed about having to move out of Brooklyn as a trade filler to get the Irving deal done? Well, contrary to expectations, Morris actually liked the move.</p><p>Speaking with reporters before the Mavs’ Wednesday game against the Los Angeles Clippers, Morris <a href="https://twitter.com/CallieCaplan/status/1623404471756914688" rel="noopener">admitted</a> that he was hoping he’d get traded along with Irving. He wants more opportunities to play, and he knows he’s not getting it with the Nets.</p><p>“I just wanted somewhere I could have the opportunity to play. …. just a lot going on, man. I just want to play basketball,” the 33-year-old vet said, per Callie Caplan of the Dallas Morning News.</p><p>Markieff Morris averaged just 10.6 minutes per game with the Nets, and he made only 27 appearances for the team as he got plenty of DNPs instead. With that said, it is easy to see why he wanted out of Brooklyn.</p><p>It remains to be seen how Mavs coach Jason Kidd plans to use him, but considering that the team is lacking in depth, Morris could certainly find himself with an increased role. The squad could also use some additional toughness, especially with defense a big issue for Dallas at the moment.</p><p>Morris and Kyrie Irving are expected to debut for the Mavs against the Clippers.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

While it’s surprised a few folks, it’s <a href="https://twitter.com/NickFriedell/status/1595624379152568320">nothing beyond</a> what teammate Markieff Morris expected.</p><p>Asked about Simmons’ <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-news-the-shocking-story-behind-ben-simmons-anonymous-philanthropy-amid-return-to-philly">much-improved play</a> ever since a two-point dud against the Los Angeles Clippers on November 12, Keef summed it up in one word before going off on the reporters in attendance, via ESPN’s Nick Friedell:</p><p><i>“Healthy. He finally got his legs under him. He was off for two years. Y’all wouldn’t give him a chance, y’all want to criticize him after every fu***** game …,”</i> said Morris in defense of Ben Simmons.</p><p><i>“But when a guy don’t play two years — because obviously y’all wouldn’t know because none of y’all played in the NBA, he had to get his body right. Contact every night, he’s playing 30-plus minutes, it takes time.”</i></p><p>Ben Simmons has scored in double figures in each of his last five games after having exactly zero in his first nine games in a Brooklyn Nets uniform. The improved scoring numbers have also seeped into the rest of his game. He’s become more aggressive in making plays on offense while slowly regaining his all-defensive form on the other end of the floor.</p><p>The Nets have a lot of issues to work on as they try to right the ship amidst a tumultuous season. The trade rumors and firing of head coach Steve Nash have rocked the boat for a team loaded with on-paper talent.</p><p>At least for the time being, the positive progress from Ben Simmons has eased one of their biggest issues as they work their way back to contender status.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
