Aspiring Shane Falco.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Los Angeles Lakers wing Max Christie’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/los-angeles-lakers-news-and-notes-2023-nba-summer-league" rel="noopener">breakout run</a> at NBA Summer League is likely over.</p><p>On Thursday, the team <a href="https://twitter.com/michaelcorvoNBA/status/1679588992113852416" rel="noopener">announced</a> that Christie suffered a right hip strain and is listed as day-to-day. The Lakers’ final Summer League game is on Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies.</p><p>Christie has spent the last week in Las Vegas <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-max-christie-reveals-nba-summer-league-goal">stating his goal</a> to make Darvin Ham’s rotation on opening night. On the court, he did as much as he could to make the case. Including the California Classic in Sacramento, Christie averaged 19.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists across five summer games. He shot 49.2% from the field, 55.0% from 3, and 96.8% from the free-throw line. He showed off seasoned chops as a three-level scorer and playmaker. I’m excited to play with him again for another year,” per Michael Corvo of ClutchPoints.</p><p>Playing alongside a legend of the game in LeBron James is only a positive for Christie. Christie added that LeBron plays “Hopefully as many years as he possibly can.”</p><p>The Lakers drafted Max Christie in the second round of the 2022 NBA draft after he played one season at Michigan State. In his rookie season with the Lakers, Christie was a role player for the team, playing in 41 regular season games and nine postseason games while averaging 12.5 minutes in his regular-season appearances.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lebron-james-los-angeles-lakers-21st-nba-season-espys" rel="noopener">LeBron James ended speculation</a> about his possible retirement at the 2023 ESPY Awards Wednesday during his speech when he accepted the award for Best Record Breaking Performance for surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jaabar as the NBA’s all time leading scorer.</p><p>During his speech, LeBron said, “The day I can’t give everything on the floor is the day I’ll be done. Lucky for you guys, that day is not today,” per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.</p><p>LeBron also spoke about how he still very much loves the game of basketball, and coaching his sons only <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-lebron-james-take-on-potential-nba-team-up-with-bronny-bryce" rel="noopener">reinforces his passion</a> for the game. “You know what brings me back every year? It’s watching and coaching my boys and their teammates. I see those kids, and it brings me right back to why I play. For the most part, they opted to run it back with a few key free agent additions. They re-signed Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell and Rui Hachimura while adding impact players in Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince and Jaxon Hayes. But in order for the Lakers to continue to build on their Western Conference Finals appearance last season, they’re going to look to internal development as well. One of those players they’ll hope can take another step forward is second-year wing Max Christie. He also averaged 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists. Christie was not a regular in the Lakers rotation last season and he spent most of his game action with their G League affiliate the South Bay Lakers.</p><p>Christie did see playing time though in 47 games including three starts during the regular season. He averaged 3.1 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists with splits of 41.5 percent shooting from the field, 41.9 percent shooting from the three-point line and 87.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line. If he continues his upward trajectory and can carry over his summer league performance to the regular season, he could be another gem found by the Lakers scouting department.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Los Angeles Lakers, who are off to a 2-0 start in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-2023-free-agency-lakers-christian-wood-summer-league" rel="noopener">this year’s summer league,</a> are impressed with the emergence of several of their participants, including <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-max-christies-comical-austin-reaves-reaction-summer-league-mvp-chants" rel="noopener">second-year pro Max Christie.</a></p><p>Lakers head coach Darvin Ham said on the <i>#thisleague UNCUT </i>podcast that LA is <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/thisleague-uncut-darvin-ham-part-1/id1668189953?i=1000620832976" rel="noopener">encouraged by the improvements</a> it’s seen from Christie and other young players.</p><p>“It’s been beautiful to watch. And one of our young kids, we’re really, really excited about, Max Christie going into his second year in the league. I told him he needs to step up and show his leadership abilities, and he’s done that,” Ham said. “We have some really good players under our umbrella that people are getting a chance to see, and they’re playing the right way.”</p><p>Christie was an early second-round pick by the Lakers in the 2022 draft after one season in college at Michigan State. The guard got a decent run with the Lakers as a rookie, averaging 12.5 minutes per game in 41 appearances and three starts, but he played in just four games after the All-Star break and saw sporadic minutes in the playoffs.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/los-angeles-lakers-news-and-notes-2023-nba-summer-league" rel="noopener">The Lakers haven’t been shy</a> to use any and all of the players at their disposal, regardless of draft status or experience. Last season saw the emergence of undrafted guard Austin Reaves who turned into a starter for LA. The Lakers rewarded him with a four-year. $53.8 million contract. Max Christie may not be on his way to that sort of money, but the Lakers are hopeful he can turn into a reliable impact player.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Lakers wouldn’t have come out on top against the Warriors if it weren’t for a fantastic <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-max-christie-bonkers-wembanyama-less-spurs" rel="noopener">all-around performance</a> from guard Max Christie. In 31 minutes of playing time, Christie stuffed the stat sheet for the Lakers, as he scored 22 points — on 6-for-11 shooting from the field and 3-for-5 from behind the three-point arc — pulled down seven rebounds, dished out two assists, and blocked two shots.</p><p>Christie played so well on Friday that he received MVP chants during the second quarter of the game. He averaged 3.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.2 steals, 0.2 blocks, 0.3 turnovers, and 0.8 personal fouls per game across 41 appearances this season (three starts).</p><p>The former Michigan State star shot the ball with impressive accuracy from behind the three-point arc in the 2022-23 campaign — Christie converted 41.9% of his three-point attempts as a rookie.</p><p>If Christie can continue to play at this level in the Summer League, he may very well earn himself a spot in the Los Angeles Lakers rotation next season.
