Beasley says he wasn’t happy with how he was used in the Big Apple. The former NBA star spent just one season with the Knicks, in 2017-2018.</p><p>Beasley says he would have been more productive for the team if they didn’t put him at the four position. The forward says because that’s where he played in college with Kansas State basketball, every other team he played with used him at that spot. Beasley said he would have loved a shot in the backcourt, even possibly playing at point guard.</p><p>“You play me at the one, two, or three, and I’m bigger, <a href="https://hoopshype.com/rumor/michael-beasley-ive-been-playing-out-of-position-my-whole-career/" rel="noopener">better on defense</a>,” Beasley said on the YouTube show Club 520 Podcast. “Now I’ve got somebody to play pick-and-roll with. I could’ve [expletive] up the pick-and-roll game with Kyle O’Quinn and Kristaps Porzingis. But Jeff Hornacek was on the hot seat, and Porzingis didn’t really know how to play good, winning basketball. That [expletive] was trash, man.”</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>This is not the first time Beasley has shared his frustrations about playing for the Knicks. When he played for the franchise, he spoke out about <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-michael-beasley-upset-at-new-yorks-lack-of-ball-movement">the team’s struggles</a> to move the ball and score.</p><p>Beasley last played in the NBA in 2018-19 with the Los Angeles Lakers. He spent some time playing overseas after that, last appearing for a game while playing for the Shanghai Sharks in 2022.</p><h2>Michael Beasley was a terrific NBA player</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/IMAGN-request-Title-Michael-Beasley-defends-JJ-Redick-while-playing-for-Lakers.jpg"><figcaption>© Gary A. Beasley played for several NBA franchises in the 11 years he played in the NBA, and the Knicks were just one of his several spots. His longest stay was with the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves, even though he spent just two seasons with each team.</p><p>Beasley averaged a little more than 12 points a game while playing professionally in the United States. He was the second overall pick of the 2008 NBA Draft. He was a career 46 percent shooter from the field, while grabbing 4.7 rebounds a game.</p><p>In his one season in New York, Beasley put together a solid campaign. He played in 74 games, which was the most amount of appearances he had in his last six league years. He averaged more than 22 minutes a game, while scoring 13 points a contest. He also had one of his best overall seasons on the glass, pulling down 5.6 rebounds a game. That was tied for his second-best rebounding season during his career.</p><p>Despite Beasley’s comments, he still played well that one year with the Knicks. New York finished the 2017-18 season with a 29-53 record, so it wasn’t a great season. Knicks fans can now speculate if the team would have done better had Beasley been playing in a different position on the floor.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He now writes about sports instead as a form of therapy.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The 2024 NBA Draft class may not have been the strongest, but teams with little to no hopes of winning a championship can take solace in the fact that Cooper Flagg, barring an unforeseen turn of events, will be headlining next year’s draft class. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/duke-basketball-news-jared-mccain-cooper-flagg">Flagg, the Duke forward,</a> looks to be a franchise-altering talent due to his projected defensive impact as well as his shot-creation tools.</p><p>But in something that would definitely <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1828220150362833026" rel="noopener">raise some eyebrows</a>, Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George compared the Duke youngster to Michael Beasley during the most recent episode of Podcast P with Paul George presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment.</p><p>“He’s nice. He’s kinda got a little like Michael Beasley. At that size, can score, can playmake. Super talented. Just a game-changer. I don’t think people speak enough about how good Michael Beasley was or is. I still see clips to this day of him doing crazy s**t online. He is the epitome of the “that boy nice” culture — a player who can score at will and glide effortlessly around the court despite being a large human being at 6’9″. The 76ers star definitely has a soft spot for him since George himself is a smooth operator on the court like Beasley was.</p><p>However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eric-bledsoe-michael-beasley-shanghai-sharks-fixing-games">Beasley did not exactly meet expectations</a> relative to how high up in the draft he was selected. The Miami Heat took him second overall in the 2008 NBA Draft, and he didn’t blossom into an All-Star-caliber player. A rebounding machine with Kansas State, Beasley became more of a finesse big or a tweener in the NBA, and the Heat found him expendable when they brought in LeBron James and Chris Bosh in the summer of 2011.</p><p>But it’s not like George is too far off when comparing Cooper Flagg to Beasley. Flagg can also handle the rock as a 6’9″ forward, and at his best, he can be a three-level scorer and a walking mismatch problem — similar to Beasley at his best. But what separates the Duke youngster from Beasley is his defensive impact. Flagg, if all goes according to plan in his development, may be a shoo-in for All-Defensive Teams for years to come thanks to his lockdown perimeter skill and ability to protect the rim as well.</p><h2><b>Duke’s Cooper Flagg might be closer to Paolo Banchero than he is to Michael Beasley</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Duke-Blue-Devils-recruit-Cooper-Flagg.jpg"></figure><p>It may be a cop-out to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/duke-basketball-news-cooper-flagg-surprised-paolo-banchero-major-award">compare Cooper Flagg to another Duke product</a> in Paolo Banchero, but Banchero appears to be a much more worthy comparison to the projected first overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft. Flagg, much like Banchero, loves to handle the ball in pick-and-roll situations, and his athleticism allows him to shine from inside the perimeter.</p><p>Banchero’s game is what Michael Beasley’s may have been had he developed as well as he could have. The Orlando Magic star has emerged as one of the best shot-creating forwards in the game, as he lives in the midrange and he also makes his teammates better by being a willing playmaker amid all the defensive attention he’s drawing.</p><p>But, again, the main difference separating Flagg as a prospect is his defensive pedigree. Banchero is no slouch defensively, but his Duke successor is simply cut from a different cloth on that end of the floor.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

James’ Lakers ranked <a href="https://www.nba.com/standings">ninth in the Western Conference</a> record wise as of Tuesday afternoon, seemingly on a collision course with a first round play-in game and perhaps a first round matchup with last season’s playoff tormentors, the Denver Nuggets.</p><p>James has averaged over 25 points per game this season with 7.2 rebounds and 8.2 assists. The Ohio-raised small forward has scored 20-plus points in each of his last four games <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/1966/lebronjames">including 40 points</a> against Stephen Curry and Coach Steve Kerr’s Golden State Warriors on Saturday, March 16.</p><p>The Lakers have been led by Spencer Dinwiddie and Anthony Davis recently, as the team scored 150 points against the Indiana Pacers <a href="https://www.latimes.com/sports/lakers/story/2024-03-24/los-angeles-lakers-indianapolis-pacers-nba-game-recap">at Crypto.com</a> Arena on Sunday. James last won an NBA Championship in 2020 and has four titles over the course of his career, one less than deceased Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and two less than Jordan, who won six titles in six NBA Finals appearances with the Bulls during the 1990s decade.</p><p>Beasley did not mention Kobe Bryant in his rant, although many fans believe the Lakers’ other legend belongs in the conversation for Greatest of All-Time.</p><h2><b>Fans React to Beasley Warning Shot </b></h2><p>Fans were in a combative mood on Tuesday as they fired back at Beasley’s boast.</p><p>“LeBron can’t even beat you one-on-one,” one fan said with laughing and crying emojis on X.</p><p>“Beasley knows ball…Incoming MJ and Kobe homers leave the tears below,” another fan added.</p><p>Another fan pointed out that James has played significantly more years than Jordan, which they believe accounts for the statistical chasm that currently exists.</p><p>“Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, LeBron is one of one though,” another fan added succinctly toward the middle of the comments thread.</p><p>The Lakers were set to take on the Bucks at 7:30 p.m. ET Tuesday.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

There was no spark and sizzle followed by an unexpected crash, as NBA fans often see from top prospects.</p><p>Beasley’s career was instead largely derailed by suspensions related to marijuana usage, a substance that’s now legally permitted for NBA players thanks to the new CBA, and subsequent narratives that cast his character in an unfavorable light.</p><p>Now 34-years-old, Beasley opens up about <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article277510948.html" rel="noopener">how he felt</a> during his career — specifically his time with the Heat — in an interview with Miami Herald scribe Anthony Chiang.</p><p>“I love the Heat organization,” Beasley says. “I love a lot of people in the organization. But I had to grow into those feelings.”</p><p>“When I was a player, I didn’t like them at all,” he admits. “I didn’t like what was going on, I didn’t like that I didn’t get an opportunity. I didn’t like the narrative behind me not getting an opportunity was my defense… the fact that I never played more than 20 minutes, which means I always watched more than half the game [from the bench].”</p><p>“But now, I’m older and I’m past a lot of those feelings,” he says sagaciously. “…I love what they got going on right now. I wish they could have won [a championship] this past year. Leading the contest by a score of 100-96 with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, the Dragons would conveniently go on to commit five consecutive turnovers which led to a 10-point advantage for Shanghai. They eventually would go on to win by a final score of 108-104 to clinch the best-of-four series 2-1 and, in turn, were slated to advance to the quarter-finals.</p><p>However, with the accusation of game-fixing, Eric Bledsoe, Michael Beasley, and the Shanghai Sharks have officially been disqualified from the CBA playoffs.</p><p>Along with this, the head coaches and general managers from both ball clubs were <a href="https://twitter.com/legionhoops/status/1647940753677754369?s=46&amp;t=Sj2_3fh_1QMNq_LR68xtdg" rel="noopener">banned from the CBA and significantly fined</a>, as per a Tweet by Legion Hoops.</p><p>This is yet another investigation into suspicions regarding widespread corruption in Chinese sports, with the Associated Press noting that China’s “top-flight professional soccer league” was “particularly hard-hit” for said suspicions.</p><p>The Sharks ended their season with the fifth-best record in the league at 26-16 and accumulated the most points scored with 4,470.</p><p>For the two former NBA studs, Eric Bledsoe would finish off his first season with Shanghai boasting averages of 17.6 points, 6.1 assists, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.6 steals through 29 games played while Michael Beasley held averages of 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in four games.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
