Beasley says he wasn’t happy with how he was used in the Big Apple. The former NBA star spent just one season with the Knicks, in 2017-2018.</p><p>Beasley says he would have been more productive for the team if they didn’t put him at the four position. The forward says because that’s where he played in college with Kansas State basketball, every other team he played with used him at that spot. Beasley said he would have loved a shot in the backcourt, even possibly playing at point guard.</p><p>“You play me at the one, two, or three, and I’m bigger, <a href="https://hoopshype.com/rumor/michael-beasley-ive-been-playing-out-of-position-my-whole-career/" rel="noopener">better on defense</a>,” Beasley said on the YouTube show Club 520 Podcast. “Now I’ve got somebody to play pick-and-roll with. I could’ve [expletive] up the pick-and-roll game with Kyle O’Quinn and Kristaps Porzingis. But Jeff Hornacek was on the hot seat, and Porzingis didn’t really know how to play good, winning basketball. That [expletive] was trash, man.”</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>This is not the first time Beasley has shared his frustrations about playing for the Knicks. When he played for the franchise, he spoke out about <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-michael-beasley-upset-at-new-yorks-lack-of-ball-movement">the team’s struggles</a> to move the ball and score.</p><p>Beasley last played in the NBA in 2018-19 with the Los Angeles Lakers. He spent some time playing overseas after that, last appearing for a game while playing for the Shanghai Sharks in 2022.</p><h2>Michael Beasley was a terrific NBA player</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/IMAGN-request-Title-Michael-Beasley-defends-JJ-Redick-while-playing-for-Lakers.jpg"><figcaption>© Gary A. Beasley played for several NBA franchises in the 11 years he played in the NBA, and the Knicks were just one of his several spots. His longest stay was with the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves, even though he spent just two seasons with each team.</p><p>Beasley averaged a little more than 12 points a game while playing professionally in the United States. He was the second overall pick of the 2008 NBA Draft. He was a career 46 percent shooter from the field, while grabbing 4.7 rebounds a game.</p><p>In his one season in New York, Beasley put together a solid campaign. He played in 74 games, which was the most amount of appearances he had in his last six league years. He averaged more than 22 minutes a game, while scoring 13 points a contest. He also had one of his best overall seasons on the glass, pulling down 5.6 rebounds a game. That was tied for his second-best rebounding season during his career.</p><p>Despite Beasley’s comments, he still played well that one year with the Knicks. New York finished the 2017-18 season with a 29-53 record, so it wasn’t a great season. Knicks fans can now speculate if the team would have done better had Beasley been playing in a different position on the floor.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He now writes about sports instead as a form of therapy.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The 2024 NBA Draft class may not have been the strongest, but teams with little to no hopes of winning a championship can take solace in the fact that Cooper Flagg, barring an unforeseen turn of events, will be headlining next year’s draft class. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/duke-basketball-news-jared-mccain-cooper-flagg">Flagg, the Duke forward,</a> looks to be a franchise-altering talent due to his projected defensive impact as well as his shot-creation tools.</p><p>But in something that would definitely <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1828220150362833026" rel="noopener">raise some eyebrows</a>, Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George compared the Duke youngster to Michael Beasley during the most recent episode of Podcast P with Paul George presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment.</p><p>“He’s nice. He’s kinda got a little like Michael Beasley. At that size, can score, can playmake. Super talented. Just a game-changer. I don’t think people speak enough about how good Michael Beasley was or is. I still see clips to this day of him doing crazy s**t online. He is the epitome of the “that boy nice” culture — a player who can score at will and glide effortlessly around the court despite being a large human being at 6’9″. The 76ers star definitely has a soft spot for him since George himself is a smooth operator on the court like Beasley was.</p><p>However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/eric-bledsoe-michael-beasley-shanghai-sharks-fixing-games">Beasley did not exactly meet expectations</a> relative to how high up in the draft he was selected. The Miami Heat took him second overall in the 2008 NBA Draft, and he didn’t blossom into an All-Star-caliber player. A rebounding machine with Kansas State, Beasley became more of a finesse big or a tweener in the NBA, and the Heat found him expendable when they brought in LeBron James and Chris Bosh in the summer of 2011.</p><p>But it’s not like George is too far off when comparing Cooper Flagg to Beasley. Flagg can also handle the rock as a 6’9″ forward, and at his best, he can be a three-level scorer and a walking mismatch problem — similar to Beasley at his best. But what separates the Duke youngster from Beasley is his defensive impact. Flagg, if all goes according to plan in his development, may be a shoo-in for All-Defensive Teams for years to come thanks to his lockdown perimeter skill and ability to protect the rim as well.</p><h2><b>Duke’s Cooper Flagg might be closer to Paolo Banchero than he is to Michael Beasley</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Duke-Blue-Devils-recruit-Cooper-Flagg.jpg"></figure><p>It may be a cop-out to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/duke-basketball-news-cooper-flagg-surprised-paolo-banchero-major-award">compare Cooper Flagg to another Duke product</a> in Paolo Banchero, but Banchero appears to be a much more worthy comparison to the projected first overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft. Flagg, much like Banchero, loves to handle the ball in pick-and-roll situations, and his athleticism allows him to shine from inside the perimeter.</p><p>Banchero’s game is what Michael Beasley’s may have been had he developed as well as he could have. The Orlando Magic star has emerged as one of the best shot-creating forwards in the game, as he lives in the midrange and he also makes his teammates better by being a willing playmaker amid all the defensive attention he’s drawing.</p><p>But, again, the main difference separating Flagg as a prospect is his defensive pedigree. Banchero is no slouch defensively, but his Duke successor is simply cut from a different cloth on that end of the floor.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

That’s literally what we get. We get the ones who wanna go against the grain. He earned it. You can’t really say too much after that, you know. He the best.”</p><p>Michael Beasley averaged a crisp seven points and 2.3 rebounds over 26 games with the Lakers before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. He was waived soon after. He hasn’t played in an NBA game since 2018-19 with the Los Angeles Lakers and didn’t play in the 2019-20 season after signing with the Brooklyn Nets because he tested positive for COVID-19. However, that doesn’t mean his days as a professional basketball player are done. In fact, Beasley is about to make bank playing over in China.</p><p><a href="https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1533449116876845056" rel="noopener">Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported Sunday morning</a> that Beasley will be joining the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association on a contract that will pay him seven figures. This will actually be Beasley’s second stint with the club. He also played for the Sharks in the 2014-15 season.</p><p>Michael Beasley has played for two other teams in the CBA. He played for the Shandong Golden Stars in 2015-16 and the Guangdong Southern Tigers in 2019. Most recently, Beasley was playing for Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico.</p><p>It has been quite the roller-coaster ride for Beasley in his basketball career. A superstar in his one season at Kansas State, Beasley went No. 2 overall to the Miami Heat behind Derrick Rose in the 2008 NBA Draft. While he showed some promise on the court early in his career (he put up 19.2 PPG with the Minnesota Timberwolves in his third season), off-court issues plagued him, especially involving drugs. He also recently <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-news-michael-beasley-breaks-down-in-tears-as-he-reveals-tiring-mental-health-problems/" rel="noopener">opened up on his mental health issues.</a></p><p>Michael Beasley never reached his massive potential and wound up bouncing around the NBA. The 33-year-old bared his heart and soul in the interview and you can’t help but feel really bad for the situation he’s currently in.</p><p>Beasley revealed the mental health issues he’s been going through in a lengthy interview on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUnxiP7q4RDDyeioZFZLnXA"><i>The Pivot </i>podcast</a>. The former Kansas State standout detailed some of the major reasons behind his problems, including how his own family stole from him during his rise to the top:</p><blockquote>“I don’t know no one that ain’t stole from me,” Beasley said, via <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2022/03/15/michael-beasley-cries-emotional-interview-ryan-clark/" rel="noopener">TMZ Sports</a>. “Everybody except for my kids stole from me.”“Every step of the way, I asked for help.”</blockquote><p>It is clear that Beasley is not in a good place right now. Apparently, this has been the case for him for virtually his entire career. They were teammates in high school and they followed similar career paths towards the NBA. As it turns out, however, Beasley hasn’t been in communication with KD of late:</p><blockquote>“I don’t talk to nobody right now,” Beasley admitted. “It’s not a problem because I’ve spoken to people. It sounds like Beasley and Durant are good friends and the fact that they’re not even talking right now probably makes things even more difficult for Beasley. As a matter of fact, Beasley even admitted that he actually isn’t talking to anybody right now. It seems as though he’s decided to cut ties with most of his friends because, by his own admission, he does not want to burden them with his problems.</p><p>It also sounds as though Beasley is already seeking professional help for his mental health problems. This is perhaps the biggest silver lining in all this given how Beasley appears to be in a dark place. It’s good to hear that he’s willing to get help and that he’s taken the necessary steps towards the same. Nobody has to go through these tough times alone.</p><p>This interview was supposed to discuss Beasley’s history as an NBA player and perhaps also delve into the steps he’s taking to try and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/3-teams-that-should-take-a-chance-on-michael-beasley/">make it back to the league</a>. At 33, it does seem like Beasley still has some gas left in the tank. Then again, the last time we saw him in the NBA was during the 2018-19 season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He did sign with the Nets the following year, but unfortunately, his substitution contract was voided after he tested positive for COVID-19.</p><p>The interview turned real serious real quick and it’s as if it became an intervention between friends trying to get their buddy back on the right track. At one point, ex-NFL player and show co-host Ryan Clark even did his best to try and prop Beasley up. With this, anyone can pick him up and expect him to see action shortly after the trade deadline on Feb. 10.</p><p>The 33-year old <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-new-michael-beasley-heartbreaking-comments-about-his-stint-with-los-angeles/">last played in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers</a> from 2018-19 before embarking overseas with short stints in China and Puerto Rico. Also according to Scotto, he reportedly <a href="https://hoopshype.com/lists/michael-beasley-interview-nba-comeback-career/">claimed</a> that he is continuously working on his game and is eyeing to make a return to the league sometime this season.</p><p>It is highly likely that there is still an organization out there that would benefit from Michael Beasley’s services and would be willing to roll the dice on him, even on a short-term basis. With that said, let’s take a look at three NBA teams that should pick up Beasley from free agency:</p><p><b>3. Boston Celtics<br></b></p><p>There is no doubt that the Celtics have been one of the most underwhelming teams of the 2021-22 season thus far. The squad’s offense has been stagnant as it is primarily revolving around the 1-on-1 plays of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown on most occasions.</p><p>To make matters worse, they also can’t make wide-open shots as they are currently ranked 29th in field-goal percentage in that category, per <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/shots-closest-defender-10/?Season=2021-22&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season&amp;CloseDefDistRange=6%2B%20Feet%20-%20Wide%20Open&amp;sort=EFG_PCT&amp;dir=1&amp;DateTo=12%2F30%2F21">NBA Stats</a>. Things aren’t any better on the defensive end as well as the Celtics have given up at least 100 points to their opponents in nine out of their last 13 games.</p><p>In hindsight, the Celtics are no strangers to trying their luck on tenured veterans as they have previously signed Joe Johnson on a 10-day contract. With a shortened season in play and most stars resting or recovering in back-to-back scenarios, the option for veterans to earn their stripes again.</p><p>Lance Stephenson has proven himself time and time again to be a capable ball-handler and a player on offense that can get his own shot. He last played in the league for the Los Angeles Lakers as he came off the bench during the 2018-19 season. He averaged 7.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists through 16.5 MPG.</p><p>Lance Stephenson rose to fame during his time with the Indiana Pacers after being tasked with guarding LeBron James in some critical moments during the 2014 Eastern Conference Finals.</p><p>As for Beasley, the former No. 2 pick spent his last season in the league playing for the Lakers as well with Lance Stephenson. He averaged seven points on 10.7 minutes of playing time. Following being drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Beasley never frankly found his footing in the league. He became a journeyman soon after his time with Minnesota.</p><p>Both Michael Beasley and Lance Stephenson are in their 30s, which could make for a challenge in cracking the rotation on a team even in the G League. Two men who have bounced around the NBA are not done chasing their dream and extending their careers, reminding everyone that it’s never too late to pursue success in any endeavor, even if the odds might seem daunting.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Five days later, the Beasley experiment seems to be over even before it started.</p><p>According to <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29461336/sources-new-net-michael-beasley-leaves-orlando-bubble">Malika Andrews and Tim Bontemps of ESPN</a>, Beasley has left the Disney World bubble in Orlando. Obviously, the latter did not occur.</p><p>As the Nets prepare to participate in the resumption of the 2019-20 NBA campaign later this month, they will be without Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Spencer Dinwiddie, DeAndre Jordan and Taurean Prince.</p><p>While Durant and Irving are recovering from injuries, all three of Dinwiddie, Jordan and Prince tested positive for COVID-19 and declined to take part in the restart.</p><p>To combat the deterioration of the roster, Brooklyn signed veteran guards Jamal Crawford and Tyler Johnson before agreeing to terms with Michael Beasley. The Nets also signed rookie big man Donta Hall, who was released by the Detroit Pistons earlier this season.</p><p>Beasley last appeared in the NBA during the 2018-19 campaign, when he played 26 games with the Los Angeles Lakers. They have to compile a better seeding-games-record than the Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards if they want to keep that seventh slot.</p><p>Beasley will have to serve a five-game suspension because of a previously failed drug test before he can make his Brooklyn debut. The lefty appeared in 26 games for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018-19. He<a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/beaslmi01.html"> averaged</a> 7.0 points and 2.3 rebounds.</p><p>Along with Beasley, the Nets also added three-time Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford to the roster.</p><p>The Nets will be title contenders in 2020-21 once Durant and Irving play.
