However, the forward’s heroic offensive effort wasn’t enough, as the Nets fell 119-111 to the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center in a game that featured 23 lead changes.</p><p>Porter Jr. poured in 34 points on 12-of-20 shooting from the field and 6-of-10 from three during the loss. It marked his fourth straight 30-point game, the longest streak of his career. Yet, Brooklyn couldn’t muster the offense down the stretch to pull out the win.</p><p>The Nets shot 6-of-21 from the field and 2-of-9 from three while being outscored 29-19 in the fourth quarter. They struggled to contain Anthony Davis, as the Mavs star posted 20 points and 11 rebounds on 9-of-17 shooting in the second half. Dallas outscored Brooklyn 7-0 in second-chance points in the final frame.</p><p>“I like the fight all the way through. I think the team competed well. But it came down to the defensive rebounding in the fourth,” Jordi Fernandez said. “I think they had 10 second-chance points in the fourth quarter. That’s how you lose games. And also transition defense. We’ve been better lately. A good team rebounding the ball and a good team in transition defense. And we couldn’t get it done today. Still proud of the effort and the guys. We gave ourselves a chance having a lead at the end and fighting all the way through.”</p><p>Finding consistent offense outside of Porter Jr. has been a struggle for Brooklyn this season.</p><h2>Nets come up short down the stretch of road loss to Mavericks</h2><p> </p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Anthony-Davis_394881.jpg"><figcaption>Jerome Miron-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Entering Saturday, the Nets had won their last five games against sub-500 teams with a +14.8 net rating <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/brooklyn-nets/nets-news-michael-porter-jr-making-all-star-case-fueling-turnaround">with Porter Jr. in the lineup</a>. However, they were 0-2 against sub-500 teams with a -15.7 net rating in games he missed.</p><p>“It’s a different brand of basketball in the last quarter, but really the last seven, eight minutes. It really tightens up, and you’ve got to hold your spots,” Porter Jr. said after Friday’s loss. “You’ve got to own your spots a little bit better. You’ve got to be more aggressive. Guys are going to get away with more holding and stuff, so just being strong the last seven, eight minutes and being very decisive.”</p><p>Danny Wolf <a href="https://x.com/BenchHighlights/status/1999889476039143503?s=20" rel="noopener">did his best to carry the load</a> as Brooklyn’s No. 2 scorer in Dallas. The rookie big man posted 17 points and seven rebounds on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 3-of-3 from three. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/brooklyn-nets/nets-news-michael-porter-jr-hilarious-reaction-to-danny-wolf-poster-dunk">Wolf has averaged</a> 13.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists on 49/52/80 shooting splits in 24.6 minutes per game over the Nets’ last six appearances after cracking the rotation.</p><p>Nic Claxton posted 14 points, 10 rebounds and four assists on 5-of-12 shooting but struggled to contain Davis down the stretch. Terance Mann added 12 points, while Noah Clowney and Tyrese Martin chipped in 11 apiece.</p><p>Egor Demin struggled, posting three points, one rebound, one assist and two turnovers in 1-of-7 shooting in 18 minutes. The supposedly tanking squad <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/brooklyn-nets/nets-news-michael-porter-jr-making-all-star-case-fueling-turnaround">won its third straight game with Porter Jr. in the lineup</a> on Saturday, blowing out the New Orleans Pelicans 119-101 at Barclays Center.</p><p>Porter Jr. poured in 35 points on 14-of-23 shooting from the field and 5-of-10 from three during the win. The game marked his third-straight 30-point performance after he scored 33 and 35 during victories over the Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls, respectively.</p><p>Porter Jr. became the first player in Nets history to record 30-plus points, five-plus rebounds, and five-plus three-pointers in three straight games.</p><p>“He makes his teammates’ lives better. He doesn’t play in a selfish way,” Jordi Fernandez said. “The shots he creates — one he’s able to make every shot possible — but when he spaces the floor properly, and when he cuts with pace, and he’s constantly moving, and then he rebounds the ball… that’s just very good for everybody else… So all those things are important, and they don’t go unnoticed. Him talking to all his teammates and the young guys, that shows maturity and adjusting to a new role. [Having] a smile on his face, all that positive energy is contagious. And I think that he’s been a big part of this team coming together.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/brooklyn-nets/nets-news-bill-simmons-blasts-brooklyn-one-worst-trades-decade">Porter Jr. was somewhat of an afterthought nationally</a> after the Denver Nuggets salary-dumped him to the Nets this summer. However, the 27-year-old is playing at an All-Star level as Brooklyn’s No. 1 option.</p><h2>Will Nets trade Michael Porter Jr. amid declining draft lottery odds?</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Michael-Porter-Jr_44f5f1.jpg"><figcaption>Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Over his last 13 appearances, Porter Jr. is averaging 28.2 points — the 10th-most in the NBA — on 51/42/83 shooting splits. His 65.2 true shooting percentage during that span leads the league among players attempting 19-plus shots per game.</p><p>“I just think the continuity of our offense [is improving]. Guys are just getting used to playing with each other. It’s leading to some good looks for me,” Porter said. “I’m getting a lot of easy looks at the rim, and then from there I’m able to make some jumpers. So I’m trying to focus on playing inside-out. And it’s easy playing with guys like [Nic] Claxton, Day’Ron [Sharpe], [Danny] Wolf, Egor [Demin]. They find me for easy looks.”</p><p>Most impressively, Porter Jr.’s career-best statistics have translated to winning. The Nets have posted a 6-7 record over the forward’s last 13 appearances with a positive net rating (+0.7) during his minutes.</p><p>While the stretch is undoubtedly raising Porter Jr.’s value as an asset, it’s pushing the Nets further away from top draft lottery odds and their goal of landing a transformational prospect next June.</p><p>Following a 0-7 start, Saturday’s win dropped the Nets <a href="https://www.tankathon.com/" rel="noopener">into a tie for fifth-place in the draft lottery standings</a>. They’re 3.5 games behind the Pelicans for the top spot, 2.5 behind the Washington Wizards for second and one behind the Indiana Pacers for third.</p><p>The Nets have looked like the superior team during their recent matchups with other tanking squads. They’ve won their last five games against sub-.500 teams with Porter Jr. in the lineup, posting a +14.8 net rating. Remove him from the equation, and they’re 0-4 with two losses to sub-.500 teams, posting a -15.7 net rating.</p><p>Along with Porter Jr.’s stellar play, a revamped frontcourt is fueling Brooklyn’s recent success. After losing their first seven games, the Nets pivoted to a starting front line of Porter Jr., Noah Clowney and Nic Claxton. That trio has posted a +3.37 net rating in 304 minutes together, according to PBPStats.com.</p><p>Following an injury-riddled sophomore campaign, Clowney has turned in a breakout stretch to start this season. The 21-year-old has averaged 16.6 points on 45/40/82 shooting splits over Brooklyn’s last 16 games. Meanwhile, Claxton is also playing the best basketball of his career, averaging 13.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.4 blocks on 55.7 percent shooting.</p><p>Sean Marks should be feeling pressure to maximize Brooklyn’s 2026 first-round selection. The GM traded four first-round picks to the Houston Rockets in June of 2024 to reacquire Brooklyn’s 2025 and 2026 first-rounders. One of those four picks was the Phoenix Suns’ 2025 first-rounder, which the Nets finished just two spots ahead of in June’s draft after exceeding expectations last season.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/brooklyn-nets/nets-news-joe-tsai-hints-brooklyns-strategy-2025-26-season">Nets owner Joe Tsai all but admitted his team’s tanking agenda</a> entering this season during a podcast appearance.</p><p>“We have one pick in 2026, and we hope to get a good pick. So you can predict what kind of strategy we will use for this season,” Tsai said.</p><p>The Nets took steps to improve their 2025-26 tank outlook. They made an NBA-record five first-round picks in June’s draft and entered the season with exclusively rookies at point guard. Yet, Porter Jr., Clowney and Claxton’s high-level play — and the volume of dreadful teams this season — has once again left Brooklyn on the outside looking in for top-three lottery odds.</p><p>Porter Jr. and Claxton will generate trade interest leading up to the Feb. 5 deadline. However, without control of their 2027 first-round pick, the Nets will be trying to take a step back towards contention next season. Both players are young enough to be a part of the team’s future plans.</p><p>Whether Marks decides to move off Porter Jr. and/or Claxton to maximize Brooklyn’s lottery odds will be a top question surrounding the team over the next two months.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He led us in rebounding with 10 rebounds overall, nine defensive. The shot making. We all know it, but he just creates so much attention, and then it opens the three-point line for others, and he touches the paint. So [he’s giving] all that effort.</p><p>“If he needs to play 33 minutes instead of 38 because he’s playing [with] non-stop cutting and moving, and then defensively, he’s in the right spot, he’s chesting drives, he’s rebounding, he’s engaged, [that’s fine]. I’m very happy to see the growth, and I believe he’ll still keep growing because he’s having fun and he’s engaged.”</p><p>Porter Jr. wasn’t alone in his production in Chicago. After shooting 0-of-5 in the first half, Clowney drained 6-of-7 three-point attempts in the second half. Claxton put together another well-rounded performance, posting 14 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and three blocks on 6-of-7 shooting.</p><p>“At first, it was a defensive slugfest,” Porter Jr. said. “Then we started to hit some shots. And then when they started to come back a little bit, I thought our guys hit timely shots. Noah Clowney [hit threes]. Nic had a big layup and one, a timely bucket. His 57.9 effective field goal percentage ranks seventh among 24 players attempting over 18 shots per game. In 15 games, he’s run 24 isolations, averaging 1.13 points per possession. He ran 19 isolation possessions in 77 games with the Nuggets last season, averaging 0.84 points per possession.</p><p>On a team featuring an NBA-record five rookie first-round picks and the league’s youngest roster, Porter Jr. is also emerging as a leader on the floor.</p><p>“I like it when he starts talking to his teammates and tells them what to run,” Fernandez continued. “He’s been in these situations before, and I think that we benefit from it. So we need that, him being engaged and communicating at all times. It brings everybody together. That connectivity cannot just be on the defensive end, but also on the offensive end.”</p><p>Following the Nets-Nuggets trade this summer, many in league circles anticipated that Brooklyn would attempt to flip Porter Jr. after this season, when he will be on an expiring contract. Some of his comments this past offseason are resurfacing, particularly his remarks shading the quality of basketball in the WNBA. Back in September, the Brooklyn Nets forward implied that a group of the best high school players in the country were going to demolish the WNBA All-Star team.</p><p>Of course, at this point, this is just a hypothetical and there’s simply no way of proving Porter’s insinuations. But perhaps the most sobering part of this is that Sophie Cunningham, a rotation player for the Indiana Fever, even <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/wnba/wnba-stories/wnba-news-sophie-cunningham-drops-honest-take-michael-porter-jr-wnba-remarks">agreed with the Nets forward’s comments</a>, saying that Porter’s comments are “probably true” and that “men are just stronger, bigger, athletic” so “if you put them up against females, they’re going to win.”</p><p>However, not everyone is content to just sit with Porter’s comments and take them lying down. Five-time WNBA All-Star Angel McCoughtry, who retired in 2022, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNREzD0yumE&amp;t=4420s" rel="noopener">pushed back</a> on the Nets forward’s comments and, as the kids say, “clocked his tea”.</p><p>“First of all, congratulations. You were dominating against women in the eighth grade. What does he want? Does he want a cookie? You want a medal for that? The only thing that should be coming out of a man’s mouth about women is uplifting her,” McCoughtry said in an appearance on the Higher Learning podcast.</p><p>McCoughtry then urged Porter, as well as other men, to simply support and help grow the women’s game instead of starting pointless debates and pitting the sexes against each other.</p><p>“You guys, we have practice guys that come in. You guys help us be more athletic. You guys help us be quicker. You guys play great defense on us. He never did. He only uplifted us and supported us. LeBron doesn’t talk that kind of stuff. Why the elites don’t talk like that?” McCoughtry added.</p><p>That is something for Porter to ponder. He’s run two pick-and-rolls per game to one per game last year. He’s running one post up per game, this year, with the Nets to one post-up every five games, last year, with the Nuggets, averaging 24.2 points per game — that’s a career-high. 18 field-goal attempts, per game — that’s a career-high. 3.2 assists per game — that’s a career-high.</p><p>“And MPJ has just a slight dip in efficiency. Porter Jr. says the most talented high school boys in the country would beat a WNBA All-Star team or the United States women’s Olympic squad.</p><p>Cunningham, who also attended the University of Missouri, Porter Jr.’s alma mater, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBj-TunxtmM&amp;t=1126s" rel="noopener">agreed with the veteran’</a>s take, per her podcast, Show Me Something Sophie Cunningham &amp; West Wilson.</p><p>“So I would say that’s like probably true. I mean, it’s probably true,” Cunningham said. “I don’t want to be like unrealistic or delusional, like men are just stronger, bigger, athletic. Like they just are a different build. And if so, if you put them up against females, well, yeah, they’re going to win, duh.”</p><p>For Cunningham, it’s a biological stance that applies not only to basketball.</p><p>“If you are a professional football player, basketball player, really any sport,” Cunningham added. “But let’s just take it basketball because that’s where we’re both at. Like to me, if you’re in that elite level group, yeah, you should be able to beat the girls.”</p><p>Porter Jr. has received plenty of flak for his take on top NBA prospects beating women already in the pros. Porter Jr.’s name was mentioned in many headlines over the summer.</p><p>Still, Porter Jr. <a href="https://twitter.com/LakeShowYo/status/1962230492306309576" rel="noopener">stood by his take</a> on WNBA All-Stars, he said, per LakeShow’s X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>“I’m the biggest fan of the WNBA,” he said. “I have two sisters that for most of my childhood beat me every single day at basketball. Like, I’m the biggest fan of the WNBA. I grew up with Sophie Cunningham.
