In the offseason, two-time NBA champion <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/magic-news-kentavious-caldwell-pope-leaving-nuggets-for-orlando">KCP signed with the Orlando Magic</a>, boosting their young playoff squad with championship poise and experience. However, it’s just funny that his first thought was even more offense, when KCP was arguably their best two-way player.</p><p>Pope may not have locked down the opponents’ best player, but he gave their defense enough time to compose itself and helped get stops when teams tried to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-nikola-jokics-hilarious-1-word-response-to-suns-pick-and-roll-question">pick-and-roll Nikola Jokic to death</a>.</p><p>Still, Porter knows his value. Again, arguably, he is the team’s X-factor, and the Nuggets wouldn’t have won a title in 2023 if he hadn’t rounded into his peak offensive capabilities.</p><p>While Jokic and Jamal Murray are the team’s 1A and 1B players, MPJ gives the team a scoring punch that’s nearly impossible to scheme for. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-nikola-jokic-playoffs-stats-denver">Joker alone is almost impossible to defend</a>, and then you add the 6’10” MPJ who can shoot lights-out like a taller Klay Thompson (just without the defense) and you have a championship-level offense.</p><p>Per StatMuse, in 12 games for the Nuggets in the 2024 playoffs, Porter averaged 15.8 points on shooting splits of 46.6% from the field and 40.7% from three. More than even Murray, he was the main reason the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-lebron-james-pinpoints-reasons-for-blown-opportunities-vs-nuggets">Nuggets beat the Lakers in two straight playoffs</a> because LA simply had no one to guard him.</p><h2><b>Outlook</b></h2><p>Likewise, the Timberwolves dethroned them in the semifinals last season because they were able to limit Porter’s production, as he managed to score in double figures only twice in seven games.</p><p>The departure of KCP may have knocked the Nuggets just a tier below actual title contenders in the West like the Wolves or the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Nuggets held media day this week and ahead of training camp, Michael Porter revealed that he had <a href="https://x.com/VBenedetto/status/1839368194123018737" rel="noopener">undergone a new body transformation</a> for this season as per Vinny Benedetto of The Denver Gazette.</p><p>Benedetto reported that, “Michael Porter Jr. is on muscle watch. He says he’s around 236/237 pounds right now. He expects to play around 232. He was listed at 218 last season.”</p><p>With Porter bulking up, it’s possible that the Nuggets expect he will play a little more in the post. He’s had success with being able to post up smaller wings and shoot the little turnaround jumper. Porter is expected to reprise his role as the Nuggets starting small forward for the upcoming season.</p><p>A former top-ranked high school recruit, Porter overcame a back injury his rookie year to develop into one of the best role players in the league. He played a crucial role during the Nuggets 2023 championship run.</p><p>This past season, Porter appeared in 81 games at a little over 31 minutes per game. He averaged 16.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists with splits of 48.4 percent shooting from the field, 39.7 percent shooting from the three-point line and 83.6 percent shooting from the free-throw line. His free-throw percentage was a career-high.</p><p>The former No. 14 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Porter is also one of the league’s best three-point shooters with a career average of 41 percent from distance. He’s one of the best catch and shoot players in the NBA. He will be entering his sixth season in the NBA with the Nuggets.</p><p>The Nuggets made it to the Western Conference Semifinals last season before falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves in seven games.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Deservedly, Porter signed a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/players/9eac088d/michael-porter-jr/contract">five-year, maximum contract extension with the Nuggets</a> as he looked like the third star the team needed to get over the hump.</p><p>Since then, however, a few difficulties have <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-michael-porter-jr-message-teammates-terrible-series-timberwolves">slowed down Porter</a> and his ascent. In 2021, just nine games into the season, Porter injured his back and proceeded to miss the rest of the season. After that unfortunate injury, he hasn’t yet reclaimed the heights he reached during his stellar 2020-21 campaign.</p><p>Now, the Nuggets have had to make difficult decisions to maneuver around Michael Porter Jr.’s huge contract. They had to let the likes of Bruce Brown and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope walk as a result. A player’s salary must be commensurate to their impact for their respective teams. Has Michael Porter Jr.’s play been a disappointment relative to his contract? Not really; after all, the Nuggets won a championship with him playing a crucial supporting role.</p><p>But there are fans who feel as though Porter hasn’t reached the potential he displayed during his first full year as a starter for the Nuggets. He has mostly <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-why-michael-malone-forcefully-pushed-back-michael-porter-jr-blame-timberwolves-loss">settled in as a third banana</a> catch-and-shoot guy who provides some shot creation off the dribble instead of being a star scorer on the wing.</p><p>Make no mistake about it, however; the Nuggets forward loves the game with all his being even though the outside noise surrounding the job can be a distraction from time to time.</p><p>“I would play basketball, you know, before my injuries. You know, now it’s a little different, like it sometimes feels like a job, but I love basketball so much. I would have played this game for free as long as I could eat. I loved it. So like, the money—that was never my goal. My goal was to be like, take this as far as I could take it, be as good as I could be,” Porter added.</p><h2>The Nuggets will need more from Michael Porter Jr. next season</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Michael-Porter-Jr.jpg"></figure><p>In consecutive offseasons, the Nuggets lost crucial wing pieces in Bruce Brown and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope via free agency. Not only did they lose Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in free agency after the 3-and-D wing signed a three-year, $66 million deal with the Orlando Magic, they also lost 2024 first-round pick DaRon Holmes II to a season-ending Achilles injury. The Nuggets, however, set their sights on a blockbuster move earlier in the offseason that could have changed the whole dynamic of the team.</p><p>The Nuggets reportedly “flirted with” the idea of trading away Michael Porter Jr. in an <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/the-new-cba-has-changed-the-game-and-teams-are-adjusting-to-a-new-landscape-222524885.html" rel="noopener">opt-in and trade scenario</a> with the Los Angeles Clippers for Paul George, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports. George would have provided an upgrade over Porter on the defensive end, while the 34-year-old wing also shot the ball better from beyond the arc last season. Clearly, however, a trade did not materialize, what with George signing with the Philadelphia 76ers on a four-year, $212 million deal.</p><p>Porter’s contract will be worth around $35.9 million for the 2024-25 season, and it’s his huge contract that continues to take up a considerable chunk of the Nuggets’ cap space. His huge deal played a huge part in complicating the Nuggets’ bid to retain Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, so it’s understandable why they entertained the idea of trading him away in a bid to get a two-way upgrade.</p><p>At the end of the day, Fischer noted that the Clippers may not have been too keen on taking on Michael Porter Jr.’s contract anyway. The Clippers did not want to trade George to the Golden State Warriors so they could <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-paul-george-breaks-silence-near-trade-golden-state">maintain financial flexibility</a>. Acquiring Porter and his contract would have meant that they would exceed the second tax apron.</p><p>The Nuggets will still be one of the best teams in the association next season; this will be the case for as long as Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray are on the team. But it’s evident that the team got around them worse. Can the Nuggets front office bounce back?</p><h2>Is Michael Porter Jr. overpaid?</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Michael-Porter-Jr.-looking-down.jpg"></figure><p>When the Nuggets signed Michael Porter Jr. to a <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nba/player/_/id/26980/michael-porter-jr" rel="noopener">five-year, $179 million extension</a> in September 2021, he was coming off a very impressive season in which he averaged 19 points per game on 54/45/79 splits — stellar efficiency numbers. His true shooting percentage was at 66.3 — a marvelous number usually reserved for big men. Porter, meanwhile, is a perimeter player who took nearly half of his shots that season from beyond the arc, making that feat all the more impressive.</p><p>Thus, the Nuggets were well justified in handing out that contract to Porter at the time. He was only entering his age-23 season; player progression may not be linear, but Porter was improving at a rapid rate, and playing alongside an all-time great playmaker in Nikola Jokic would only serve to make the game that much easier for him.</p><p>However, Michael Porter Jr. has a long history of back problems, which caused him to slide in the 2018 NBA Draft to the Nuggets in the first place. He missed the entirety of the 2018-19 season due to these back issues, and to start the 2021-22 season, Porter’s injury woes resurfaced. His back problems limited him to nine games during that season, and since then, he hasn’t been able to replicate the heights of his stellar 2020-21 campaign.</p><p>Porter is still one of the most efficient gunners in the association, which makes him very valuable in a league that remains heavily-reliant on outside shooting. But the other facets of his game haven’t developed as much; he remains a shoot-first, shoot-second player, so his impact off the bounce is limited, and his defense, while he tries hard, isn’t the greatest. Porter is not overpaid, per se, but he certainly <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-why-michael-malone-forcefully-pushed-back-michael-porter-jr-blame-timberwolves-loss">has to do more</a> for the team given the Nuggets’ financial commitment towards him.</p><h2>Assessing the Nuggets’ roster</h2><p>The Nuggets, in losing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, will have to start Christian Braun. Braun is an athletic guard who can move his feet well defensively, but he doesn’t have nearly as much gravity as Caldwell-Pope does from the perimeter. There will be less space for the Nuggets offense to operate in, although Braun is an eager mover off the ball, so it’s not like the Nuggets’ offense will be completely hamstrung. Teams can only do so much against a Nikola Jokic-led offense after all.</p><p>The bench, however, is a major concern. Peyton Watson figures to have a bigger role in Year 3, and Dario Saric should provide some playmaking and shooting, but aside from those two, there are plenty of question marks for the Nuggets. Is Julian Strawther ready to step up in his sophomore campaign? Porter was recently asked during an appearance on <i>Full Send Podcast</i> if Clark can score in the league and came up with a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ha2w9rNBpU&amp;t=1s" rel="noopener">blunt response</a>.</p><p>The former Missouri Tigers star said that Clark would get torched defensively if she was in the NBA. At the same time, Porter said that he thinks Clark can deal damage offensively because of how she operates from behind the arc.</p><p>“Caitlin is cold,” said Porter of the former Iowa Hawkeyes superstar. “That is the one girl, if she was in an NBA game, on defense, she would get cooked, but offensively she’ll knock down some corner threes or like a swing, swing three. She can shoot from that far.”</p><p>Teams in the NBA would have a field day hunting Clark on defense for glaring mismatches, as she stands just 6’0″ with a 152-pound frame, but she should be able to stretch the floor on the other side of the court as a potent deep threat.</p><p>Caitlin Clark’s shooting has always impressed Porter —  a lethal shooter himself in the NBA — since he started following her game during the Hawkeyes’ ride in March Madness. He even compared her to Golden State Warriors star point guard and greatest shooter ever Stephen Curry.</p><p>“She’s cold, bro. I never watched her play until the [NCAA] tournament, and I was actually in shock how good she was,” Porter said of Clark. “The way she was and the range she has, she’s like the female Steph Curry.”</p><p>Speaking of Curry, perhaps a 3-point shootout between Clark and the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player could happen in the near future — similar to the All-Star Weekend event that had Curry and New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu going head-to-head in a 3-point battle.</p><h2><b>Caitlin Clark still figuring out the WNBA</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Caitlin-Clark-greeted-by-teammates-vs.-Liberty.jpg"><figcaption>© Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Caitlin Clark is still trying to get used to the play in the pros. It has been an up-and-down journey so far for her, but that’s not unexpected either. Even Clark must have known that adjusting against bigger, faster, and more skilled competition than the one she used to see at the college level would take time, and she’s just got to be patient with the process.</p><p>During her legendary four-year career with the Hawkeyes, Caitlin Clark averaged 28.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 8.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 37.7 percent from behind the arc. Clark’s incredible range and accuracy from way behind the 3-point line in college was perhaps the single biggest factor that propelled her to superstardom, though, everyone knows now that she’s more than just about dropping long bombs.</p><p>So far in her first year in the WNBA with the Fever, Caitlin Clark is averaging 16.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game. She is knocking down 37.3 percent of her shots from the floor and just 32.7 percent of her attempts from the 3-point area. Opponents are having success blitzing her off screens, making it harder for her to get off shots or make plays for her teammates. Michael Porter Jr.’s offensive regression had him taking the blame for Denver’s early exit. However, head coach Michael Malone adamantly defended Porter.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-michael-porter-jr-message-teammates-terrible-series-timberwolves">Porter averaged 10.7 points</a> and shot 32.5 percent on three-pointers during the seven-game Nuggets-Timberwolves series. His decline in production was surprising considering his regular season marks of 16.7 points and 39.7 percent from range. Porter took responsibility for his team’s defeat and expressed disappointment in his performance after the series.</p><p>“This was a terrible series,” Porter said, via Bennett Durando of The Denver Post. “I felt like I might’ve had one or two good games out of the seven we played.”</p><p>“It’s just tough because I know if I would have played up to par with how I normally play, we would have won this series. And there’s a lot of things that could have been different as a team, but I know if I had played my part, we would have won the series. And I’ve got to live with that,” Porter added.</p><p>Michael Porter Jr. may not have played up to standard, but Michael Malone is not letting him take the blame all by himself.</p><p>“I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that<a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1793783348088725744" rel="noopener"> I couldn’t disagree with [MPJ</a>] more. I don’t want Michael Porter putting the series loss on him. We win together, we lose together. Michael is a huge part of our team. He and his team will bounce back stronger for 2024-25.</p><h2><b>Nuggets look to reload after disappointing postseason exit </b></h2><p>Denver returned many of their 2023 NBA Finals contributors for the 2023-24 season. Their squad looked highly promising during the regular season. The Nuggets finished with a 57-25 record, which ranked them second in the Western Conference standings.</p><p>Furthermore, Nikola Jokic was as dominant as ever. He averaged 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 1.4 steals through 79 games. Jokic spearheaded Denver’s attack, and as a result, he earned his third NBA MVP award.</p><p>The star center did all he could to help the Nuggets during the Timberwolves series, but Minnesota’s resistance was overwhelming in the end. The Timberwolves possessed two All-NBA caliber defenders in Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert. Thus, Denver’s offense could not operate at the high level it was used to.</p><p>Nevertheless, if the Nuggets keep most of their players together, they will remain contenders for 2025. Two of the biggest areas <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/why-big-nuggets-changes-not-coming-game-7-collapse">Denver will likely address</a> are shooting and frontcourt depth, per insight from ClutchPoints’ NBA Insider Brett Siegel.</p><p>Having increased depth to support Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon could be the key to helping Denver maintain their success. He primarily specializes in NFL these days, but has also extensively covered the NBA and MLB and has written for numerous websites.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Michael Porter Jr. and the Denver Nuggets <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-nikola-jokic-perfect-admission-championship-timberwolves">will not be defending</a> their NBA title, as they were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 7 of their second-round Western Conference playoff series on Sunday night.</p><p>It was a disastrous loss for the Nuggets, who held a 20-point lead early in the third quarter, only to see the Timberwolves roar back for the win.</p><p>Porter scored just seven points off 3-of-12 shooting in the loss, marking his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-most-to-blame-for-crazy-playoff-series-loss-to-timberwolves">final paltry performance</a> in what was a series full of them.</p><p>Afterward, Porter lamented his <a href="https://www.denverpost.com/2024/05/20/michael-porter-jr-blames-self-nuggets-timberwolves-series/" rel="noopener">less-then-stellar play</a>.</p><p>“This was a terrible series,” Porter said, via Bennett Durando of The Denver Post. “I felt like I might’ve had one or two good games out of the seven we played.”</p><p>Porter averaged just 10.7 points per game on 37.1/32.5/76.9 shooting splits in the series. He logged single-digit performances in the last four games of the set and five of the seven contests in the series overall.</p><p>“Part of it was the way they were guarding. Part of it was (that) my shot wasn’t falling,” Porter said. “It’s just tough because I know if I would have played up to par with how I normally play, we would have won this series. And there’s a lot of things that could have been different as a team, but I know if I had played my part, we would have won the series. And I’ve got to live with that.”</p><p>Porter added that he said “sorry” to his teammates and that the loss was on him.</p><h2><b>Michael Porter Jr. was terrific for the Nuggets all season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Michael-Porter-Jr.jpg"><figcaption>Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Porter’s awful performance against Minnesota was certainly puzzling given how great he was for the Nuggets this year.</p><p>The 25-year-old registered 16.7 points and seven rebounds over 31.7 minutes per game during the regular season while shooting 48.4 percent from the floor, 39.7 percent from three-point range and 83.6 percent from the free-throw line.</p><p>What’s more, Porter was also terrific in Denver’s first-round playoff win over the Los Angeles Lakers, logging 22.8 points and 8.4 boards per game off 53.3/48.8/76.9 shooting splits.</p><p>Sometimes, the basketball simply does not bounce the right way, and that was definitely the case for Porter against the Timberwolves.</p><p>It’s absolutely not the first time Porter has struggled in a playoff series. In last year’s NBA Finals, he recorded just 9.6 points a night while making only 32.8 percent of his shots and 14.3 percent of his long-range attempts. The difference is that the Nuggets beat the Miami Heat in five games in that series, so his performance was able to fly under the radar.</p><p>This time around, however, there was no escaping it for Porter.</p><p>Porter was not the only reason why Denver lost to Minnesota. Far from it. Jamal Murray did not exactly have a great series, either (although he was very good in Game 7 and has the excuse of playing through an injury). But he obviously feels like he owes his teammates something after such a miserable showing.</p><p>We’ll see if Porter can bounce back next season. Chances are, he will be just fine. In a matter of weeks, three of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-michael-porter-jr-brothers-bad-sad-stuff-week">Porter’s brothers have gotten</a> in serious trouble; two of them with the law, and one of them with the NBA.</p><p>Michael, meanwhile, just had his best playoff series to date in a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-how-thoroughly-denver-lebron-james-lakers-2023-24-season">gentleman’s sweep of the</a> Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. His ability to focus and thrive despite the outside noise and distractions closely tied to him should be commended, but in this article, we are going to take a closer look at who Porter’s brothers are and why they are in trouble.</p><h2><b>Who are Michael Porter Jr.’s sisters?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Cierra-Porter-on-Missouri.jpeg"><figcaption>Joseph Cress-Iowa City Press</figcaption></figure><p>The Porter family is a rather large one. Michael’s parents are Michael Porter Sr. and Lisa Porter. Together, they had eight children. Basketball runs in the family, as all of them have ties to the sport. While Michael’s brothers have been in the news recently, he also has sisters who have thrived on the hardwood.</p><p>Michael’s eldest sister is named Bri. She played her college ball at Missouri from 2014-16, which started a trend of Porter family members playing their collegiate ball for the Tigers. After all, Missouri is the Porter family’s home state. Bri played two seasons, where she totaled 33 points before her career was cut short because of an ACL injury.</p><p>Bri isn’t Michael’s only older sister who played for Missouri, though. Cierra Porter actually teamed up with her sister for one year at Mizzou. Cierra’s career with the Tigers was impressive. In her four years on the team, she averaged 10.1 points per game. Her best season came during her sophomore season when she averaged 13.2 points.</p><p>There is one more Porter sister as well. Jayda Porter is the youngest sister in the family, and her basketball future looks bright. She is currently in high school, where she is a budding star for Rock Bridge High School in Missouri.</p><h2><b>Who are Michael Porter Jr.’s brothers?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Jontay-Porter-on-the-Raptors.jpeg"><figcaption>Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>As stated above, it has not been a good few weeks for Michael Porter Jr.’s brothers. The most prominent of his brothers is Jontay Porter, and he was just <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/raptors-news-jontay-porter-lifetime-ban-over-sports-betting-draws-strong-toronto-statement">banned from the NBA</a> for life. Jontay famously played his high school ball at Nathan Hale in Seattle, Washington (after transferring from Father Tolton Regional Catholic High School) with his brother Michael.</p><p>That Nathan Hale squad was the best in the nation. NBA legend Brandon Roy coached the team to a 29-0 record and a state championship. Jontay was one of the top recruits in the nation for the class of 2018, but he ended up reclassifying into the 2017 class so he could attend Missouri at the same time as Michael, who was the top recruit in the nation. The duo would be coached by their father, Michael Sr., who took an assistant coaching job on the team.</p><p>While Michael sat out most of his freshman season because of a back injury, Jontay thrived in his first year of college basketball. His late growth spurt allowed him to thrive as a big man despite having wing-like skills. Jontay could shoot, pass, and dribble the ball exceptionally well for a front court player.</p><p>Jontay had a promising collegiate career ahead of him, but unfortunately, he tore his ACL and MCL in a scrimmage before his sophomore season, which forced him to miss that campaign. While rehabbing, Jontay again tore his ACL. Jontay’s injury red flags were a concern for teams, but he decided to enter the 2019 NBA Draft nonetheless. Jontay ended up going undrafted because of his injuries, but his talent was worth a gamble for the Memphis Grizzlies.</p><p>Memphis gave Jontay a multi-year deal, and he ended up making 11 appearances for the team – he also spent some time with the Memphis Hustle of the G-League – before being waived. From there, Jontay bounced around some in the G-League. He played for the Wisconsin Herd and the Motor City Cruise before he was given a chance by the Toronto Raptors during the 2023-24 season.</p><p>Toronto was under a rebuild that saw them trade a number of their best players, and therefore, Jontay would have a chance to prove himself. He was doing just that and was seemingly finding himself a long term home in the process before the unthinkable happened. On March 25, 2024, it was reported that Jontay was under investigation for gambling irregularities.</p><p>The investigation stemmed from games where large wagers were placed on Jontay’s under bets. Subsequently, Jontay played low minutes in those games after subbing out early. On April 17, the NBA banned Jontay for life. They found that he disclosed confidential information to sports betters, limited his participation in games, and placed 13 sports bets of his own, including parlays that had his own team losing. His ban made him the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/banned-nba-players-ranked-from-16-to-1">16th person banned</a> from the NBA for life.</p><p>Unfortunately, Porter’s punishment wasn’t the only one inflicted on the Porter family as of recent. Additionally, Michael’s brother <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jontay-porters-younger-brother-gets-six-year-prison-sentence-just-days-after-his-lifetime-nba-ban">Coban was sentenced to six years</a> in prison on April 19. Coban pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide after striking and killing Katharina Rothman on Jan. 22, 2023.</p><p>Coban, who played college basketball at the University of Denver, had a blood alcohol level of .19 during the fatal crash. The Porter family’s troubles – especially with drinking and driving – didn’t stop there. On May 1, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-michael-porter-jr-brother-jevon-porter-arrested-on-dwi-suspicion">Jevon Porter was arrested</a> on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.</p><p>According to 9news.com <a href="https://www.9news.com/article/news/local/jevon-porter-dui-arrest-missouri/73-8fca1e4a-baf2-4cc2-8a11-e3c40153088b" rel="noopener">he was released</a>, but it is troubling to see another Porter brother drive drunk after seeing his brother sentenced to prison just weeks earlier. Jevon spent the last two seasons playing basketball at Pepperdine but recently <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/loyola-marymounts-jevon-porter-arrested-for-speeding-suspicion-of-dwi-171746801.html" rel="noopener">transferred to Loyola Marymount</a>, via Yahoo Sports.</p><p>Michael Porter Jr. has one more brother. Izzak is the youngest of the brothers, and not much is known about him. With Jevon being the third Porter brother to face trouble recently, Michael will have even more on his mind during the NBA playoffs. With a return to the NBA Finals still on the mind for Michael and the Nuggets, the star forward will have to eliminate any distractions and focus on playing good basketball, as he did in the series against the Lakers.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Missouri State Highway Patrol records show that alcohol and speeding were factors involved in Porter’s arrest.</p><p>Porter, 20, was not booked into jail in Boone County where the arrest occurred, but was released on summons. Loyola Marymount has since <a href="https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/40064144/jevon-porter-brother-michael-porter-jr-arrested-suspicion-dwi" rel="noopener">made a brief statement</a> via ESPN: “We are aware of recent reports in the media and are gathering information about the matter.”</p><h2><b>Trouble for the Porter family continues</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/michael-porter-jr-nuggets-lakers-nba-playoffs-2024.jpg"><figcaption>Andrew Wevers-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Jevon’s arrest comes as a shock, considering other members of the Porter family have recently gotten themselves into trouble as well.</p><p>Nearly two weeks ago, Jevon’s older brother Jontay, received a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/michael-porter-jr-breaks-silence-brother-jontay-porters-gambling-investigation">permanent ban from the NBA.</a> Jontay, a two-way player for the Toronto Raptors, was banned following an investigation that revealed he was betting on games, as well as attempting to influence the outcome of bets with his own play. According to the investigation, Jontay also revealed confidential information to bettors.</p><p>Michael Porter Jr., who was in the process of finishing off a very solid full season with the Nuggets, spoke in <a href="https://twitter.com/MileHighRachel/status/1773218082254647470" rel="noopener">support of his brother</a> prior to his ban.</p><p>“I’ve known my brother my whole life. I know what type of dude he is,” Michael said via ClutchPoints. “He’s excited to play basketball, and I highly doubt he’d do anything to put that in jeopardy.”</p><p>Days after Jontay’s ban, the eldest Porter brother, Coban, was sentenced to six years in prison. Coban, a former basketball player at the University of Denver, received six years in prison for a drunk driving crash that killed a Colorado woman in 2023. According to police records, Coban had a blood alcohol level of 0.19, which is more than twice the legal limit. He ran a red light and hit a vehicle, killing Kathy Limon Rothman and severely injuring her passenger. Because of the injuries to the passenger, Coban received a two-year sentence, but he will serve both sentences simultaneously.</p><p>Michael Porter Jr. and the Nuggets are in the midst of a playoff run. Does Los Angeles have any chance of avoiding embarrassment on Saturday, or is Denver simply inevitable?</p><h2><b>The Lakers are incapable of finishing games against the Nuggets</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Nuggets-Michael-Porter-Jr.jpg"><figcaption>© Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>The dynamic of this series is most likely too difficult for any franchise in the losing position to overcome. The Lakers blew a 12-point lead in Game 3, right after Jamal Murray finished punched them in the mouth with his Game 2 buzzer-beater. Of course, Los Angeles was up by as much as 20 in that contest, but Denver always finds a way to come back. The Lakers have been up at halftime in all three games.</p><p>The reason for this is simple: Los Angeles doesn’t get consistent enough production from its supporting cast. James and Anthony Davis combined for 53 points on Thursday, while the rest of the starting lineup registered just 17. Conversely, Murray and Nikola Jokic put up 40 for the Nuggets, but the rest of their lineup scored 49.</p><p>Denver can afford to take its foot off the gas when the game starts because it knows that it can rely on its superior depth to slowly claw its way back in. Jokic <a href="https://www.denverpost.com/2024/04/26/nikola-jokic-nuggets-11th-straight-win-lakers-bored/">said as much postgame</a>, via Bennett Durando of The Denver Post.</p><p>“To be honest, I think every game is tougher and tougher,” Jokic said. “You can see, they were up 20 in Denver, in Game 2. They were up 12 today in the first half. But yeah, I think it’s really hard to play against the same team over and over again. You kind of get bored with the style of the play or whatever. So you just need to — especially for us, because we won the last three — just trust what we are doing and don’t get bored with success. Because it can (go) wrong really quick.”</p><p>Jokic’s comments are telling, as it’s uncommon for a player to admit that his team is “bored” with beating the same squad so many times. This suggests that the Nuggets can essentially beat the Lakers at will, so they don’t bother trying until they need to. Based on recent results, it’s hard to argue with the approach. There’s no reason to exert maximum energy and further risk any injury if it’s unnecessary to win.</p><p>Denver can always rely on players like Porter to produce. The Missouri alum is averaging 20.3 points and nine rebounds per game on 54.5% shooting this series, including an unconscious 47.8% clip from beyond the arc. When combining that with the likes of Jokic and Murray, who can take the game over at any moment, Los Angeles is outmatched. The Nuggets were shooting horribly from three-point range, while the Lakers had corrected their issues from beyond the arc in Game 1.</p><p>Until Jamal Murray stepped up yet again in a big moment.</p><p>Murray was one of the Nuggets’ players who was shooting abysmally through the first half. But late in the third quarter, the star guard seemed to find his rhythm, and baskets were starting to fall. Slowly the Nuggets began to chip away at the Lakers’ lead.</p><p>After LeBron James’ missed layup, the game sat tied with 16 seconds remaining. Porter Jr secured the rebound and the Nuggets chose to not take a timeout. Murray dribbled around with the clock winding down and Anthony Davis closely guarding him. A lot of people were reaching out, friends, family. Coban Porter, who pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and assault, ran a red light while speeding and struck the victims’ vehicle. At the time of the crash, Porter’s blood alcohol level was .19, more than twice the legal limit. Porter Jr. missed practice in order to attend his brother’s sentencing hearing on Friday, a day before the Nuggets’ first playoff game. Coban Porter had been a member of the University of Denver’s basketball team at the time of the crash.</p><p>Jontay Porter, Coban and Michael’s brother,has been a major point of focus in the NBA for the last several weeks as well, but for all of the wrong reasons. Jontay Porter, a two-way player who had played 26 games with the Toronto Raptors this season, was officially banned for life from the NBA for gambling on basketball games, including those in which he wagered that the Raptors would lose.</p><p>Porter had been at the center of an investigation by the NBA after sportsbooks reported suspicious betting behavior around Porter’s player prop bets. The NBA concluded in its investigation that Porter had tipped off known gamblers and disclosed injury information to bet on his player props as a way to win the wager.</p><p>Despite the turmoil facing his family, Michael Porter Jr. played well in Game 1 against the Lakers; he had 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks in the Nuggets’ victory.</p><p> </p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The NBA discovered multiple instances of betting irregularities over the past few months, involving prop bets on Porter from games on Jan. 26 and March 20.</p><p>Any players, teams, or league employees are not allowed to bet on NBA games. In fact, each NBA team has personnel to monitor sports betting, and the league has many data scientists that focus on sports betting anomalies.</p><p>Since the news of this investigation broke, Jontay Porter has yet to make a public statement.
