LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Miles Bridges all seem optimistic about the 2024-2025 season.</p><p>After only winning 21 games the season before, there is nowhere to go but up for this young team. That all <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-charles-lee-sounds-off-championship-culture-charlotte">starts with their new head coach Charles Lee</a>.</p><h2><b>Miles Bridges believes in Charles Lee, team development</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Hornets-Brandon-Miller-Miles-Bridges-ready-to-dominate-alongside-LaMelo-Ball.jpg"><figcaption>Scott Kinser-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Lee came to the Hornets after serving under head coach Joe Mazzulla on the Boston Celtics. It may be his first time as an NBA head man, but he has been an assistant coach in the league since 2014. He has been a member of two NBA championship squads.</p><p>“Just enthusiasm,” Bridges said when describing Charlotte’s rookie head coach. “He’s energetic, the last two coaches have been laid back, except for Cliff when he got mad. Coach (Lee) comes with a lot of energy and I feel like that’s what we need.”</p><p>Lee turns 40 in November, so he’s young in NBA terms when it comes down to coaching. Spending time around Mazzulla on a title run with the Celtics in 2024 also puts a different battery in the pack as well. Bridges believes in the team’s development under his new head coach.</p><p>“Taking it one day at a time, one game at a time. Focusing on the next days to get better, day by day,” Bridges said. “The new Hornets DNA is to be obsessed with daily improvement and I feel like that’s what we’ve been doing.”</p><h2><b>The big three is anxious to play at full strength</b></h2><p>While injuries have held Ball back, he is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-lamelo-ball-eases-injury-concerns-2024-25-season">expected to be ready</a> for the start of the regular season. Seeing the Hornets reach their full potential <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-lamelo-ball-high-flying-declaration-brandon-miller-miles-bridges-duo">next to Bridges and Miller is a tantalizing sight for Ball</a>.</p><p>“Definitely excited, I mean y’all seen how Miles could jump and Miller might have little low bounce, it’s crazy,” Ball said. “Both of them jumping is definitely a scary fast break.”</p><p>Ball and Miller only played 19 games with one another in the 2023-24 season, so the excitement is their to see the Hornets likely number one and two options mesh their games together to dominate. Ball wasn’t the only one praising Miller, Bridges also had nothing but good things to say about the sophomore star.</p><p>“Brandon gets better everyday. I’ve been so impressed with him since he came to the Hornets,” Bridges said. “He’s more poised than he was last year, he can facilitate better, I wouldn’t be surprised if he hits that All-Star stride.”</p><h2><b>Brandon Miller hypes up Mile Bridges, LaMelo Ball</b></h2><p>The attention will be on Miller since he stole the show last year,  being a consistent force throughout the course of the season. But Miller knows he didn’t find his stride alone.</p><p>“It feels great coming from him,” Miller said about Bridges’ comments. “Without him I wouldn’t make it to be an All-Star. He makes me better, pushes me, I push him. It’s going to be a great season for him too.”</p><p>Miller also noted how playing next to Ball will help elevate his and the entire Hornets’ game.</p><p>“I’m so excited, man. Best IQ in the game. I think he’s the best playmaker, he’s gonna help us. Everyone’s going to follow his lead and we’re going to be right there with him,” Miller said. “Without him it would be different as you saw last year. It’s a new year, I see him doing great things this year. All-Star for him. I’m rooting for him.”</p><p>Training camp will give these guys a chance to grow even closer and build that rapport to backup their lofty expectations. They managed to sign star guard Donovan Mitchell to a three-year contract extension and they also came to terms to a huge rookie extension with franchise cornerstone Evan Mobley. It may have taken them some time, but the <a href="https://cavsnation.com/cavs-news-how-cleveland-was-involved-with-last-espn-woj-bomb-before-retirement" rel="noopener">Cavs also managed to sign Isaac Okoro</a> to a new deal worth a reasonable amount.</p><p>However, the Cavs recognized that they may have needed a bit more firepower on both ends of the floor if they were to crack the upper-echelon of contending teams in the Eastern Conference. To that end, <a href="https://cavsnation.com/nba-rumors-cavs-team-to-watch-miles-bridges" rel="noopener">they seriously considered signing Miles Bridges</a> in free agency, although in the end, they did not have the financial capability to lure him away from the Charlotte Hornets, the team that re-signed Bridges on a three-year, $75 million deal.</p><p>Bridges, in an interview with Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer, revealed that the Cavs, along with the Los Angeles Clippers, <a href="https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/charlotte-hornets/article292866079.html" rel="noopener">legitimately entertained the idea</a> of adding him to the team.</p><p>“Yeah, the Clippers are a great organization. They wanted me, the (Cleveland) Cavaliers wanted me. But at the same time I was just trying to see what was the best fit for me, and what would make me and my family happy,” Bridges said.</p><p>In the end, the Cavs prioritized keeping Mitchell and Mobley for the long haul, as well as maintaining enough financial flexibility to retain Okoro over the splashy addition of Bridges. Bridges could have stepped in and become the starting small forward for the Cavs, giving them impressive size and athleticism in the frontcourt, but it would have stretched the Cavs’ finances too thin.</p><p>Passing up on the opportunity to sign Bridges may not be the worst outcome in the world for the Cavs. He may have averaged 21/7/3 last season on 46/35/83 shooting splits, but he comes with plenty of baggage due to his domestic violence issues that began in 2022. The Cavs should be a solid enough team even without Bridges, and it’s not as if he’ll be player that gets them over the hump.</p><h2>The Cavs will be alright without Miles Bridges</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.cavsnation.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Miles-Bridges-soars-to-the-basket.jpg"></figure><p>Miles Bridges would have given the Cavs another explosive scorer who can work with or without the basketball. At 6’7″, he possesses the ideal size for a wing — the position he would have played had he signed for Cleveland.</p><p>But even without Bridges, the <a href="https://cavsnation.com/cavs-news-donovan-mitchell-gets-100-real-on-cleveland-expectations" rel="noopener">Cavs should be alright</a>. Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland figure to commandeer most of the touches for the team anyway, while Evan Mobley should be given the opportunity to spread his wings on the offensive end of the court, especially considering the team’s financial commitment to him moving forward.</p><p>What the Cavs need from a fifth starter is someone who can defend, space the floor, and do his job without much fuss. That makes Max Strus and Isaac Okoro the ideal fifth member of the starting lineup, as those two are workmanlike in the way they embrace their limited role in the offense.</p><p>Bridges would have been more ideal for the Clippers. For one, the Clippers have proven that they don’t exactly care about a player’s baggage off the court as long as they can contribute on the court. The signings of Josh Primo, Kai Jones, and Kevin Porter Jr. prove that. Having a reliable secondary scorer in Bridges who can chip in 20 points a night while also contributing on the glass is a huge luxury to have, and they did well to re-sign him to a contract that isn’t overly expensive, although his off-court issues likely played a role in that development.</p><p>Assuming Bridges can stay on the court, while also keeping himself out of trouble, this deal will be a steal for Charlotte. He already has familiarity playing in Charlotte alongside their current cast of players, and at just 26 years old, there’s a case to be made that he still has room to grow on the court as well.</p><p>Charlotte’s roster is still largely a work-in-progress, but assuming guys like Ball and Mark Williams can stay healthy this upcoming season, they could be a dark-horse playoff contender in the Eastern Conference. There’s no doubt the Hornets are talented, but they need to put all of the pieces of the puzzle together, which is why re-signing Bridges is a sneaky big move for this team.</p><p>Bridges still has a lot of work to do to get himself back into the good graces of fans everywhere, and that is completely understandable. From a basketball perspective, though, this move is a huge win for the Hornets as they attempt to develop some continuity among their current team. Following the hiring of <a href="https://cavsnation.com/cavs-news-cleveland-explains-kenny-atkinson-decision-official-statement" rel="noopener">new head coach Kenny Atkinson</a> and the Donovan Mitchell contract extension, the team must show marked improvement in the 2024-25 campaign. Essentially, that means the Cavs need to evolve into a genuine threat in the East.</p><p>On paper, they have the balanced roster to compete with the best of the conference. Mitchell and Darius Garland lead a <a href="https://cavsnation.com/cavs-news-darius-garland-masterpiece-pelicans-donovan-mitchell-complete-awe" rel="noopener">top-tier backcourt</a> and Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen hold down the paint area. Those four athletes comprise a scintillating core that should launch Cleveland into undeniable contender status.</p><p>The squad is not being mentioned in that conversation, though. While teams ahead of and behind them in the Eastern Conference hierarchy continue to ascend, the Cavaliers are stagnating a bit. The players mentioned above should technically not even be in their primes yet, so more growth should be on the way. But the squad is still lacking some offensive firepower.</p><p>There may be <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/the-latest-nba-free-agency-and-trade?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=392205&amp;post_id=146281657&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;r=39f60&amp;triedRedirect=true&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">a way to secure it</a>, however.</p><p>“It is not yet clear how serious the interest is, but league sources describe Cleveland as a team to watch in potential sign-and-trade scenario for Miles Bridges,” NBA correspondent Marc Stein reported. “New Hornets executive vice president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson has said publicly that Charlotte hopes to retain Bridges, but Bridges is known to be interested in sign-and-trade options.</p><p>The Charlotte Hornets are entering a new era with Peterson and head coach Charles Lee taking charge and they may want to immediately start shaping their vision for the franchise. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-clippers-interested-in-miles-bridges" rel="noopener">Dealing away Bridges</a> can help them do just that. It could also give the Cavs a potential equalizer.</p><h2><b>Should Cavs push hard for Miles Bridges?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.cavsnation.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Miles-Bridges-soars-to-the-basket.jpg"><figcaption>Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Fans keep waiting on Evan Mobley to take the next <a href="https://cavsnation.com/cavs-news-evan-mobley-reason-hiring-kenny-atkinson" rel="noopener">leap into stardom</a> and morph into a two-way force, but the All-Defensive First-Teamer might need more time to polish his offensive skill set. He is only 23 years of age, after all. Bridges is a ready-made bucket-getter, though.</p><p>The No. 12 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft is more efficient and impactful than Caris LeVert or Max Strus, scoring 21.0 points per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and just under 35 percent from behind the 3-point line last season. Bridges also pulled down 7.3 rebounds per game for Charlotte, which could be valuable for a Cleveland team that ranked 17th in the NBA in that category.</p><p>Simply put, Miles Bridges raises the Cavaliers’ ceiling. He would still be a polarizing acquisition, of course. The 26-year-old forward was at the center of a domestic violence incident and pleaded no contest to the felony charge of injuring a child’s parent in November of 2022. The NBA subsequently suspended Bridges for 30 games, 20 of which were already served since he missed the entirety of the 2022-23 season.</p><p>The former Michigan State star also faced criminal charges in 2023 for allegedly violating a protective order that was put in place as part of his sentencing, but <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-miles-bridges-criminal-charges-domestic-violence-case-dropped" rel="noopener">they were ultimately dropped</a> due to “a lack of sufficient evidence.” He is now looking to move forward, possibly with a new franchise.</p><p>There are probably plenty of Cavs fans who would prefer that Bridges not represent their team, but president of basketball operations Koby Altman may view him as a postseason difference-maker. George’s decision to leave for the Philadelphia 76ers has put the Clippers in a bit of a pickle in terms of roster-building, but at the very least, they have leaned into an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-la-pulls-off-sneaky-mo-bamba-move-after-losing-paul-george-76ers">identity of stifling defense</a> by signing Derrick Jones Jr., Nicolas Batum, Kris Dunn, and Mo Bamba to new deals.</p><p>However, losing George will be very detrimental to the Clippers’ offense. Moreover, the Clippers haven’t exactly made any moves to rectify their ongoing problem at the power forward position. So why not kill two birds with one stone by acquiring Miles Bridges, a 20-points per game scorer with the Charlotte Hornets who would give them an athletic presence who’s accustomed to playing at the four?</p><p>And it looks as though the Clippers have kicked the tires on signing the 26-year old forward out of Michigan State, with Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times reporting that they, indeed, <a href="https://www.latimes.com/sports/clippers/story/2024-07-02/los-angeles-clippers-free-agency-miles-bridges" rel="noopener">“have interest”</a> in signing Bridges.</p><p>The Clippers owned the pick that the Hornets used to draft Miles Bridges back in 2018 before a draft-night trade saw LA move up to select Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The less said now about Gilgeous-Alexander’s Clippers stint the better, now that Paul George is nothing but a thing of the past for the franchise. Nonetheless, there is history between Bridges and the Clippers, and it will be interesting to see if the team’s reported interest in signing him proves to be more than just speculation.</p><h2>Can LA pull off a sign and trade for Miles Bridges?</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Norman_Powell_dribbling_on_offense.webp"></figure><p>At present, the Clippers are way above the salary cap, which means that they cannot easily give Miles Bridges the contract he feels he’ll be deserving of after averaging 21.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game on 46/35/83 shooting splits in 69 games <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/why-the-hornets-need-to-retain-miles-bridges">for the Hornets</a> last season.</p><p>Thus, for the Clippers to acquire Bridges, they will have to resort to a sign-and-trade, which means that players such as Norman Powell, Terance Mann, and PJ Tucker could be on the move in a potential trade to the Hornets.</p><p>Powell and Mann, in particular, “have been discussed for a possible deal”, according to Turner. The Hornets will definitely prefer to get back one of those two instead of Tucker in any sign-and-trade deals. After all, Powell and Mann should be hot commodities on their own which could help net the Hornets even more assets amid their ongoing rebuild.</p><p>The Clippers have become very guard-heavy in the aftermath of Paul George’s departure, making them ripe for a guard for forward trade. But which of Powell or Mann will they prefer to keep? If the Clippers were to be serious about becoming the best defensive team in the association, then keeping Mann will be the way to go. The 27-year old wing out of Florida State showed in the 2024 NBA playoffs how stifling of a defender he can be when he defended Luka Doncic<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-paul-george-terance-mann-difficulty-guarding-luka-doncic"> as well as anyone</a> could.</p><p>However, the Clippers’ signings this offseason are not nearly enough to keep them humming on offense. James Harden is an all-time great conductor of the offense, but there is only so much a 35-year old Harden can do. Thus, keeping Norman Powell, the man who has bailed the Clippers out on so many occasions, would give them some better two-way balance.</p><h2><b>Clippers love handing out second chances?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Houston_Rockets_guard_Kevin_Porter_Jr.jpeg"></figure><p>There is no question that Miles Bridges is a talented player. While the 26-year old avoided the wrath of the law this past season, signing Bridges still comes with a PR hit due to his questionable history. The roster already features great young talent in LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller, but guys like Bridges are just as important. He was the team’s most versatile defender covering multiple positions. Throw those intangibles in with a solid offensive game to create his own shot and spot on the perimeter, and you have the perfect three-and-d piece alongside young star players.</p><p>Plus, he is a vocal leader for the team. There is no doubt that Miller and Ball would love to have another dog on the floor with them for the next few years.</p><h2><b>Charlotte should take advantage of who wants to play for them</b></h2><p>When I asked Bridges <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-why-grant-williams-must-be-traded-guarantee-trip-nba-finals">in the Hornets’</a> exit interviews in April, he expressed his desire to stay with the team. He even mentioned wanting to stay there his entire career if possible like a Kobe Bryant or Dirk Nowitzki. No, he’s not on par with those Hall of Famers, but the message should be loud and clear to Charlotte. This is a smaller market team that doesn’t have the allure of a Los Angeles or Miami. So when a player says they want to play for you and has been productive, why not keep them around?</p><p>Now, seeing what exactly Bridges would want in terms of compensation is another conversation. Before his domestic violence incident, he was set to make anything above $100 million. It’s possible he could receive a deal within that range, but only time will tell. The Hornets stayed down with me. They didn’t have to.”</p><p>At 26 years old, Bridges has played the entirety of his career with the team that drafted him after five seasons. If Bridges continues to prove his worth, maybe that kind of future could be in the cards for him. In terms of longevity with one team.</p><h2>The reality for Miles Bridges</h2><p>Bridges’ off-court issues caused him to miss out on a contract extension north of $100 million potentially after the 2021-22 season. Since then he’s come back into the fold and had another great year. He is a free agent heading into the offseason again this time around after signing what felt like a “prove it” deal with Charlotte. He could command a decent amount of money from the Hornets and a few other teams as well.</p><p>They opted not to move him at the trade deadline in 2024 because of his production on a nightly basis. So it’s to assume Charlotte will put an offer on the table that would make sense for both sides. If they can’t come to an agreement, like Bridges said, the NBA is a business. County court and obtained by ESPN,” Wojnarowski wrote on X (formerly Twitter).</p><p>Bridges’ attorney Allen Brotherton <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/39519743/hornets-miles-bridges-gets-3-criminal-counts-dismissed" rel="noopener">commented on the situation</a>, via Wojnarowski and Tim Bontemps of ESPN.</p><p>“The evidence was going to show Miles was innocent and we were going to win a trial,” Brotherton said. “Our local prosecutor has great integrity and people should appreciate the courage to do the right thing.”</p><p>Bridges was previously <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-miles-bridges-new-details-arrest-warrant" rel="noopener">charged with misdemeanor child abuse</a>, injury to personal property, and a domestic protective order violation. Bridges also previously pled no contest to the original domestic violence case.</p><p>Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office released a statement in November when Miles Bridges <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/34941255/miles-bridges-pleads-no-contest-felony-domestic-violence" rel="noopener">pleaded no contest</a> to the felony domestic violence charge, via Baxter Holmes of ESPN.</p><p>“We believe this resolution was the best avenue to hold Mr. Bridges accountable for his conduct. We also understand through the victim’s representatives that the victim wanted an expedited resolution of the case. The victim and her representatives were consulted about the proposed resolution and agreed with the outcome of the case.”</p><p>Bridges is looking to place his focus on basketball after having these most recent charges dropped. The 25-year-old has appeared in 40 games during the 2023-24 season and is averaging 21.6 points per game on 46.5 percent field goal and 36.8 percent three-point shooting. However, Bridges had the rare ability to veto any trade he did not approve of, and several hours before the trade deadline, Bridges’ agent, Rich Paul, said Bridges would not approve of any trade and would stay in Charlotte through the end of the season.</p><p>Phoenix’s reported desire to land the 25-year-old forward drew criticism from some fans as a result of Bridges’ conviction for felony domestic violence stemming from a June 2022 incident in which Bridges was accused of assaulting his then-girlfriend in front of their two children. Bridges pled no contest to the charge and was sentenced to three years of probation.</p><p>Bridges, who was set to hit restricted free agency during the summer in which he was accused of assault, did not play for the entire 2022-23 NBA season despite the Hornets having extended a qualifying offer to him. One <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pistons-news-detroit-makes-danilo-gallinari-decision-after-trade-deadline-moves" rel="noopener">option for the Pistons</a> is signing current Charlotte Hornets standout Miles Bridges.</p><p>Detroit will have more than enough <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-miles-bridges-not-going-anywhere-at-trade-deadline" rel="noopener">cap space to sign Bridges</a>. He’s a player that the Pistons currently have their eyes on. But so do the Hornets. After not dealing him at the trade deadline, Charlotte <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/nba-trade-deadline-2024-low-key-day-improves-odds-for-summer-blockbusters-020104872.html" rel="noopener">is trying to re-sign</a> Bridges, via Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.</p><p>The Pistons would offer Bridges a change of scenery and a hefty contract. However, the forward shut down all trade talk of leaving the Hornets before the deadline. Perhaps that’s a sign that Bridges would prefer to stay in Charlotte. Regardless, the Pistons will still attempt to beat out the Hornets and sign Bridges to a lucrative deal.</p><p>Miles Bridges has been impressive in his return to the NBA. Over 39 games, the forward has averaged 21.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. All three statistics are better than Bridges’ career averages of 14.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.</p><p>If Bridges were already playing for the Pistons, he would rank second on the team in points, second and rebounds and third in assists. While Detroit has plenty of young talent, the Pistons are struggling to find success on a nightly basis.</p><p>At 8-43, the Pistons are well aware that improvements need to be made. Bridges would be a strong free agent haul and a sign of optimism in Detroit. While the Hornets have talked to teams about Miles Bridges, he’s not going anywhere. Bridges’ agent, Klutch Sports’ Rich Paul, told ESPN’s Brian Windhorst Thursday morning that he won’t approve any trade and <a href="https://twitter.com/WindhorstESPN/status/1755604316860334525" rel="noopener">will stay</a> with the Hornets the rest of the season.</p><p>Because of the nature of his one-year contract, Bridges holds veto rights over any deal. By staying in Charlotte the rest of the season, the Hornets will retain Bridges’ Bird Rights and have a prime opportunity to re-sign him.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-hornets-miles-bridges-trade-buzz-doused-in-cold-water-amid-suns-pursuit" rel="noopener">Things had been trending in this direction</a> despite trade interest in Bridges, including from the Phoenix Suns. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski <a href="https://hoopshype.com/rumor/2668635/" rel="noopener">talked about</a> Bridges’ situation before this latest report.</p><p>“I think (Miles Bridges) loves playing for Steve Clifford,” Wojnarowski reports. “I think those two have connected, Steve Clifford has done a remarkable job with the players he has at his disposal this year. The bench in Charlotte, I’m not sure all those guys are in the NBA next year, anywhere, like all of them.”</p><h2>Bridges wants to be in Charlotte for the long haul</h2><p>“Yeah!
