He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Charlotte Hornets</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>It’s not often that an NBA team finds itself down by double figures at halftime and still ends up winning the game by 26 points, but that’s exactly what happened <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/charlotte-hornets/hornets-news-brandon-miller-miss-wizards-game-injury">to the Charlotte Hornets</a> on Sunday evening when they improved to 2-1 with a road win against the Washington Wizards. It was another strong effort<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/charlotte-hornets/hornets-news-lamelo-ball-has-perfect-response-favorite-part-11th-triple-double"> from point guard LaMelo Ball</a>, who recorded an impressive triple double of 38 points, 13 rebounds, and 13 assists in the victory.</p><p>After the game, Hornets power forward Miles Bridges, who scored 22 in the game, spoke on how Ball <a href="https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/charlotte-hornets/article312549473.html" rel="noopener">motivated him to play better</a> when the team had been falling behind.</p><p>“(Shoot), it was really Melo,” Bridges said, per Roderick Boone of the Charlotte Observer. “Melo came in, gave me an ear full. I didn’t come out ready to play, so I’m not used to Melo doing that. “He told me, ‘Lock in. Lock in, play like I usually play. I’m playing like a (bum) right now. He turned it up and everybody else turned up. We go as the head of the snake go. So, if he’s leading like that, with that type of passion, people are going to listen to him.”</p><p>Ball has indeed turned into much more of a vocal leader throughout his time as the Hornets point guard.</p><h2><b>An intriguing Hornets team</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/harlotte-Hornets-guard-LaMelo-Ball-1-dribbles-past-Washington-Wizards-forward-Corey-Kispert-24.jpg"><figcaption>Rafael Suanes-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Charlotte Hornets have been mired in NBA purgatory for a decade now since their last playoff appearance all the way back in 2016, but the team is hoping that this year, they’ll be able to turn things around.</p><p>Ball looks to be playing the best basketball of his career to open up this season, and the Hornets also have some intriguing young players on the wing, such as Brandon Miller, as well as rookie Kon Knueppel, who scored 20 in the win over Washington.</p><p>Overall, in a weakened Eastern Conference, it’s not hard to envision the Hornets hanging in there and competing for a spot in the playoffs in 2025-26. Miles Bridges raced ahead and threw a pass to LaMelo Ball, who promptly threw a lob to Bridges without taking a single dribble, resulting in a thunderous dunk. When the play occurred, the Hornets were up double digits against the Grizzlies in preseason action.</p><p>Despite his injury issues over the years, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/charlotte-hornets/hornets-news-grant-williams-gushes-over-lamelo-ball-offseason-work">Ball has been an elite point guard</a> when he’s been on the court. Playing off him benefits everyone around him, as it has Bridges the past couple of seasons. Bridges has put up three straight seasons of averaging 20+ points per game while playing with Ball.</p><p>This past season, Bridges appeared in 64 games for the Hornets at a little over 31 minutes per game. He averaged 20.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists with splits of 43.1 percent shooting from the field, 31.3 percent shooting from the three-point line and 87 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>In 2023-24, Bridges averaged 21.0 points, and in 2021-22 he averaged 20.2 points. He did not play during the 2022-23 season amid ongoing domestic violence charges.</p><p>Last season, Ball was limited to only 47 games for the Hornets, at just about 32 minutes per game. He averaged 25.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.0 steals with splits of 40.5 percent shooting from the field, 33.9 percent shooting from the three-point line and 84.3 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>The Hornets have not reached the playoffs since the 2015-16 season, and if they want to get to the postseason this year, they’ll need similar play from the duo of Ball and Bridges.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He worked the NBA All-Star weekend in 2019 and 2023, the NCAA woman's tournament, and he interned with Beasley Media group.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Charlotte Hornets</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the Oklahoma City <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/oklahoma-city-thunder/thunder-news-how-mark-daigneault-planted-seeds-nba-finals-growth">Thunder to the NBA Finals</a> for the first time since 2012, it’s hard not to think what his career could’ve looked like if no team traded him.</p><p>Sure, the Los Angeles Clippers sent him to OKC, but the Charlotte Hornets had the honor of doing that first back in 2018 on draft night in a deal that included Miles Bridges and two second-round picks. Unfortunately for the Hornets, SGA has seen more success in his development into a franchise face and MVP of the league. But what if Charlotte kept SGA instead?</p><h2><b>LaMelo Ball might not have been a Hornet</b></h2><p>Given the fact that the two play the same position, LaMelo Ball likely isn’t on Charlotte’s draft boards in 2020.</p><p>Although the two could coexist in a backcourt together because of their size and versatility to play either guard spot, the Hornets could opt to select a wing player or find a big man to pair with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/oklahoma-city-thunder/thunder-news-shai-gilgeous-alexander-ends-nikola-jokic-fourth-mvp-award">their future MVP,</a> very similar to how the Thunder meticulously scooped up Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren.</p><p>The Hornets haven’t exactly nailed their draft picks throughout their history, though. It’s possible they could’ve gotten it wrong when it comes down to constructing their roster, but who knows what pieces they might’ve tried to pair with SGA.</p><p>Mitch Kupchak, who was the general manager at the time, maybe could have handled things differently if he had a franchise guard ready to take the keys from Kemba Walker on his way out of Charlotte.</p><h2><b>Hornets trade Kemba Walker</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/What-if-Hornets-didnt-trade-Shai-Gilgeous-Alexander-for-Miles-Bridges-1.jpg"><figcaption>Aaron Josefczyk-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Walker’s final year with the Hornets was <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/CHO/2019.html" rel="noopener">the 2018-19 season</a>. That year, Walker played in all 82 games, received an All-Star starter bid, and made the All-NBA third team. Great individual season, but the Hornets finished as the ninth seed and missed the playoffs.</p><p>Factor in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on the roster, it’s possibly the Hornets feel as if they found their future franchise guy. With that being the case, Walker could’ve went to the highest bidder before the trade deadline.</p><p>Putting trust into a rookie combo guard that showed two-way promise in his first season is a dicey gamble, but getting assets for your best player since the season is looking bleak would have been in their best interest.</p><p>Getting an opportunity to stack another young asset or getting more draft capital helps prepare the organization for their next chapter. It’s a tough move to make in real time for a team, but it would be the right one for those guys to move on.</p><h2><b>Hornets roster looks different as they skate into postseason</b></h2><p>SGA took massive leaps year to year in his development in terms of production. He went from averaging 10.8 points in year one, to averaging 19 in his sophomore season.</p><p>Come year five through seven, and he’s averaging 30-plus points on a nightly basis. Charlotte’s approach to building out their team but just the impact of him alone plugs the Hornets into the postseason in a weaker Eastern Conference.</p><p>It’s not easy building a team, but finding talent to complement someone’s game is simple enough to at least make it into the postseason. There’s no telling what selections, trades, or free-agency moves that could have been made, but the Hornets could have done just enough to put a team into the playoffs and avoid long playoff droughts.</p><p>The Oklahoma City Thunder have one of the best players in the NBA leading the charge for their first title in franchise history. It’s not guaranteed, but the Hornets could have been in better circumstances had they held on to the 2025 MVP.</p><p>Fortunately, Charlotte’s future seems like it has more direction than in years past. Players are healthy heading into the offseason; they have the fourth pick in the 2025 NBA Draft; and they have good young players on the roster.</p><p>With the talent around LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller, optimism is buzzing around the organization.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He and LaMelo Ball form one of the better lob duos in the league this season, but the 27-year-old has not played in more than 70 games since the 2021-22 season, including a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/charlotte-hornets/hornets-news-miles-bridges-comments-year-long-absence-from-nba">year-long absence from the Hornets</a>.</p><p>After missing the last three games of the regular season, he took to Instagram to express his feelings about his reputation. Two years ago, Bridges faced domestic violence charges from his partner. According to reports, Bridges faced accusations by his then-girlfriend of beating her in front of their two children. After more than four months, his case ended when he pleaded no contest to the charges.</p><p>NBA commissioner <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/charlotte-hornets/hornets-news-nba-official-miles-bridges-suspension">Adam Silver and the league suspended Bridges for 30 games</a> after the trial concluded. The Hornets forward spent more than a year away from the game, missing out on the entirety of the 2022-2023 season. Before last season tipped off, Bridges received another 10 game suspension after he allegedly violated his protection order.</p><p>With all of that behind him, Bridges went to social media on Tuesday to <a href="https://x.com/TheDunkCentral/status/1924926918865944815" rel="noopener">talk about his reputation</a> and what he can do to change it.</p><p>“In y’all eyes I’m always gone be the bad guy,” Bridges said. “But I’m genuinely asking what should I do? I don’t wanna be falsely accused of anything again. I just want to be a father to my children and the mother of my kids won’t let me.”</p><p>Bridges’ reputation around the league took a hit as he faced his charges and received his suspension. He is not the first Hornet to take his complaints to social media, either. Former Hornets forward Kai Jones went on Instagram live multiple times to complain about his playing time.</p><p>While Jones is no longer on the team, Bridges and Ball make up the core of the team moving forward. The duo, along with Brandon Miller, Tidjane Saluan, and Mark Williams, will try to lead the Hornets out of the hole they find themselves in each year. In his last six games, he’s averaged 32.7 points and nine rebounds per game. The Charlotte Hornets are 2-4 in that stretch, but their two wins were back-to-back. The Hornets have only managed to win consecutive games twice during the season, so it’s a small victory for Charlotte. With the Hornets set to miss the postseason for the ninth straight season, the focus has shifted to what the Hornets will do in the offseason.</p><h2><b>Miles Bridges is increasing his value</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Miles-Bridges.jpg"><figcaption>© Rhona Wise-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Bridges has been the most productive player in March thus far. It’s possible the team could look to capitalize on that and trade him at some point in the offseason. After the Hornets attempted to move on from Mark Williams, the chances are that anyone could be on the table. With Bridges operating as the team’s best player in the last few games, other teams could monitor his situation to see if the Hornets would be willing to move on for a price.</p><p>After his domestic violence case back in 2023, it’s been rumored that some teams could steer clear of Bridges. Regardless, his play on the court has made games with playoff teams competitive, despite losing. Like their <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/charlotte-hornets/hornets-news-miles-bridges-key-career-high-46-point-game-cavs">one-point loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers</a>, who have the best record in the NBA and are sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference. The offseason isn’t here yet, so there’s plenty of time for other teams to make evaluations on potential targets.</p><h2><b>What the Hornets should get in return</b></h2><p>Miles Bridges is a good player on a rather unfortunate team out East. Although the scoring numbers are nice, he has the potential to guard multiple positions as well. On a playoff caliber team, he could be a starter or key rotational piece depending on the landing spot. With that being said, a first round pick for compensation for Bridges’ services could be acquired.</p><p>General Manager Jeff Peterson has netted fair share of second round picks through trades that he’s executed in his tenure. He almost got a first round pick <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/inside-failed-lakers-hornets-trade-mark-williams">from the Los Angeles Lakers for Mark Williams if the trade would have went through</a>. For a versatile two-way player like Bridges, Peterson could sell high this offseason.</p><p>With the Hornets offseason approaching, it seems like nothing is off the table. From Miles Bridges, to LaMelo Ball, it seems like just about everyones name on the roster don’t seem 100% safe. For Ball, he’s spent his first five years in Charlotte and has only finished with a winning record once. Rumors are swirling around Ball wanting to be in a winning situation.</p><p>Injuries have plagued this organization for the last few years as well. As the Hornets were taking on the Brooklyn Nets, he saved the day for his team. Following <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/charlotte-hornets/hornets-news-miles-bridges-key-career-high-46-point-game-cavs">Bridges’s 46-point effort</a>, he followed it up with another amazing effort.</p><p>He blocked Cam Thomas’s <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1898545314040316254" rel="noopener">shot at the basket</a> during the final seconds. As a result, it gave Charlotte the 105-102 win over Brooklyn. They move to 15-48 on the season, while the Nets are 21-42.</p><p>For Buzz City, there hasn’t been much to be buzzing about in Charles Lee’s first season as head coach. However, majority of the issues aren’t his fault, or any particular player.</p><p>Charlotte has been hit with the injury bug all season. Point guard LaMelo Ball was out for an extended time. Not to mention, the Hornets lost Brandon Miller for the season due to season-ending wrist surgery.</p><p>Furthermore, Bridges has dealt with his injury struggles this season. Still, there’s pride out on the floor for the team. Because of that, the Hornets forward has been putting the team on his back, through any means necessary.</p><h2><b>Miles Bridges showed out for the Hornets vs Cam Thomas</b></h2><p>The game-winning block was an incredible display of athleticism by Bridges. He’s been known for his jaw-dropping dunks, but this is a first.</p><p>He <a href="https://swarmandsting.com/surprising-metric-shows-miles-bridges-leveled-up-big-way" rel="noopener">hasn’t been known as an elite defender</a> or a rim protector. When the game is on the line though, he understands to win the game at all costs.</p><p>That block injected new life into a Hornets fanbase that has been through the ringer this season. This might also lead to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/charlotte-hornets/hornets-news-miles-bridges-praise-charles-lee-big-game-vs-clippers">more praise to Bridges from the Hornets head coach</a>.</p><p>Although it’s one win, something like this is essential for a young team to keep building on. The main reason behind the near win was because of Miles Bridges’ productivity, as he scored a career-high 46 points. The Hornets made key runs to stay within 10 points throughout the game, and they even took the lead with just under six minutes to go in the fourth quarter.</p><h2><b>Miles Bridges talks about his career high and more</b></h2><p>When it came down to the key to his scoring explosion, Bridges kept it simple.</p><p>“Just taking what the defense gave me and going at mismatches the whole game,” Bridges said.</p><p>High pick and rolls did force switches, putting Darius Garland on Bridges and allowing him to play bully ball against him. If that didn’t happen, mismatches were created for Charlotte’s big men, leading to easy baskets for them. Bridges kept the game plan as basic as possible, and it worked in his favor. Attacking mismatches is an easy way to get and stay hot. Unfortunately, it just didn’t end with the team coming out on top against the top team in the Eastern Conference.</p><h2><b>Miles Bridges wants Hornets to focus on what works</b></h2><p>Bridges was asked about how Charlotte could maintain leads to begin to win these tight games with more frequency moving forward.</p><p>“Just paying attention to details,” Bridges said. “When we have those lapses, usually we go away from what’s working. We go away from focusing on the details, so for us it’s just communication on defense, offensive rebounding and executing on offense. That’s what a lot comes down to.”</p><p>Most of that starts on the defensive side of the ball for the Hornets. In their <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/timberwolves-news-chris-finch-minnesota-energy-hornets">loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves</a> on Wednesday night, head coach Charles Lee mentioned that his team focuses a little too much on the offensive side of the ball, which impacts how they play on the other side of the ball. Keeping up a high intensity on both ends of the floor could help seal the deal in these tightly contested matchups.</p><h2><b>Charles Lee pleased with Hornets effort in loss to Cavs</b></h2><p>Lee gave his team props for going toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the NBA season.</p><p>“I thought Miles [Bridges] did a really good job of helping pick up the offensive load with ‘Melo [Ball] being in foul trouble,” Lee said. “I thought we saw some good possessions from ‘Melo. Even though he was only out there 22 minutes, he has seven assists and helped us keep the ball moving … I thought Josh Green’s defense, him and Damion Baugh, face guarding [Donovan] Mitchell, making multiple efforts on Mitchell and [Darius] Garland was really good.”</p><p>The Hornets <a href="https://deadspin.com/nets-vie-for-sweep-of-season-series-against-hornets/" rel="noopener">end their home stand</a> against the Brooklyn Nets Saturday. Steve Clifford was in his <i>first tenure </i>as Charlotte’s head coach, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/cavaliers-news-ty-lue-untold-lebron-james-nba-finals-story">LeBron James had not yet brought a title to Cleveland</a>, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/warriors-news-kevin-durant-mocks-meme">Kevin Durant had not yet decided that his next chapter</a> would take place with the Golden State Warriors. Nearly nine years later, the Hornets seem further away from returning to the postseason than ever, struggling to a 14-45 record, failing to even compete for a Play-In berth.</p><p>This puts the Charlotte Hornets in a position they should be accustomed to at this point… scrambling to figure out what’s next. Given how unsuccessful this last half of a decade has been, it would wise for this franchise, which has never been further than the 2nd round of the Playoffs, to consider all options. That includes <a href="https://hoopshype.com/lists/nba-intel-jimmy-butler-trae-young-lamelo-ball-mark-williams-brandon-ingram-kyle-kuzma-raptors-wizards-76ers-mavericks/" rel="noopener">gauging the trade value</a> of lead guard LaMelo Ball.</p><p>“The availability of Hornets guard LaMelo Ball is one of the stars several executives who spoke with HoopsHype will be monitoring on the trade market this summer,” writes Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. “If Charlotte puts Ball on the trade market, the Hornets could kick start a complete tear-down rebuild by trading him and clearing his maximum salary off the books long-term while adding cheaper young talent and several future first-round draft picks.”</p><p>LaMelo Ball’s injury-plagued career has been limited to 221 games in which the Hornets have gone 95-126 with no postseason appearances. He’s proven to be wildly popular among kids who don’t sit down and watch full NBA games, but for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/hornets-news-lamelo-ball-miles-bridges-hook-up-for-highlight-dunk">every highlight reel play he’s made</a>, he’s bricked at least one ill-advised three-pointer.</p><p>You can point to Ball’s 26 points and 7 assists per game and say he deserved to be an All-Star. But don’t ignore these numbers: the Hornets are 29th in offensive rating during the 2024-25 season, and have been bottom three in the league in that category in each of the last three seasons. LaMelo Ball has a resume that screams, “Good stats, bad team,” and as more time goes by, it seems as if that is going to be his basketball destiny. Not ideal for a guy picked 3rd in the NBA Draft.</p><p>Ball isn’t the only member of the Hornets that Scotto mentions as a possible offseason trade candidate. Miles Bridges has two years left on his existing deal, and his cap hit isn’t too much of an issue. Domestic violence charges put a damper — and a one season pause — on what at one time looked to be a tremendously promising NBA career.</p><p>Bridges has been a 20 point per game scorer each of his last three seasons, but on just 43 percent shooting during the 2024-25 season, how far are you getting if you’re relying on him <i>too much</i>?</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Bridges finished with 25 points, including a big-time 3-pointer. Ball made an impact in his first game since January 27th, and he was ready to load up and take that shot himself.</p><h2><b>LaMelo Ball keeps it real about the Miles Bridges’ game-winner</b></h2><p>“I’m not going to lie, right before the play, I was like, ‘I’m going to take the 3, so go crash,” Ball said. “He said, ‘I’m going to be in the corner, so whatever’s there. …I trust all my teammates, so just had to make the right play.”</p><p>Ball finished with 24 points and 10 assists in his return, with the last one leading to his first double-double in a month. He attracted the whole defense,” Bridges said. “He attracted the whole defense the whole game, and I told him beforehand, ‘When you drive to the hoop, I’m going to be open in that corner.’ He passed it to me, so I do that.”</p><p>Knowing where to be around your star player is important as an ancillary piece. Using the gravity of Ball, Stephon Castle committed to drive, which sprung Bridges free, resulting in a wide-open shot to seal the game. Bridges managed to cap their nine-game home stand with a win. Bridges gave his thoughts on ending it on a positive note.</p><p>“The crowd shows up no matter what for us. Every game was packed out this homestand,” Bridges noted. “Shoutout to Buzz City…They did a great job of supporting us, and I’m happy we could get a win before we left.”</p><p>The Hornets went 2-7 in that stretch, but there are a few positive takeaways. They got Ball back healthy, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-jj-redick-la-mark-williams-trade">additions from the Mark Williams trade</a> should help their depth, and they are more mobile defensively with Moussa Diabate manning the paint. While there is still plenty of season left to see the other aspects of where this team could improve, this game was a good start. He worked the NBA All-Star weekend in 2019 and 2023, the NCAA woman's tournament, and he interned with Beasley Media group.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Charlotte Hornets</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-charles-lee-issues-strong-opinion-charlotte-lamelo-ball-absence">Charlotte Hornets haven’t had the services of LaMelo Ball</a> or Miles Bridges for the last few games due to injuries, but head coach Charles Lee provided great news at Charlotte’s recent practice.</p><p>“I would say both guys have reached the point of their return-to-play plan where they have introduced more group work or team setting work,” Lee said. “We’ll see how they show up tomorrow, evaluate them, and see how their bodies responded to that and kind of go from there.”</p><p>Both <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-lamelo-ball-kevin-garnett-paul-pierce-stamp-approval">Ball and Bridges are integral pieces of the Hornets’ success</a>, so this sounds like great news moving forward. Ball has missed his last few games with a calf strain while Bridges is nursing his knee issues.</p><h2><b>What the Hornets have been missing in LaMelo Ball’s absence</b></h2><p>Before sitting out the last few, LaMelo Ball played in the team’s first 18 games to start the season. Averaging a career-high 31 points per game, which is third in the NBA. He’s one of four guys to average at least 30 points per game, along with the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He’s played at an All-Star level so far, and he’s been a part of six of the seven Hornets’ wins.</p><p>Bridges has gotten off to a slow start scoring wise, since he’s averaging 16 points this season from his 21 points last season, but he’s doing the little things. Still guarding the opposing team’s better perimeter players, crashing the glass, and hitting catch and shoot threes. He still plays a vital role into where Charlotte wants to go, which is the playoffs.</p><h2><b>Brandon Miller has been shining</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Brandon-Miller.jpg"><figcaption>Robert Goddin-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Without his co-star in LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller has took it upon himself to be the lifeline of this offense. He’s had 11 straight games of at least 20 points or more. He’s averaging 27.5 points in that span and has even been nominated for a Eastern Conference Player of the Week twice so far this season.</p><p>He’s getting to his shooting pockets at will and has been keeping Charlotte in games even if it has resulted in a loss. Lee spoke about his workload without key players in the rotation.</p><p>“I think he’s had to shoulder a bigger responsibility with the injuries going on right now,” Lee said. “You can see teams are throwing multiple high quality defenders at him. Bringing an extra level of physicality, showing different coverages, he’s handled it well. Outside of his play his overall leadership and demeanor is just improving game by game.”</p><h2><b>So when will the Hornets be whole again?</b></h2><p>Realistically, barring no setbacks, they’re still a few weeks away. Ball and Bridges sound like they could be game time decisions this Friday against the Chicago Bulls or possibly suit up Monday at home against the Philadelphia 76ers. On the bright side, Mark Williams and Nick Richards have returned after a long hiatus, which is huge for what started as a hobbled front court to kickoff the season.</p><p>Charlotte hasn’t had their full deck of cards yet this season, but unfortunately a lot of teams in the NBA haven’t either. It’s a part of the business of sports. As Charlotte gets closer though, they might be able to make the <a href="https://www.nba.com/standings" rel="noopener">bottom of the Eastern Conference</a> interesting.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Charlotte Hornets</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>On Saturday evening, the Charlotte Hornets picked up a huge win vs the Milwaukee Bucks courtesy of two late <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-lamelo-ball-ringing-miles-bridges-endorsement-bucks">free throws from LaMelo Ball</a> and then a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-get-real-holding-giannis-antetokounmpo-season-low">defensive stop on Giannis Anetokounmpo</a> the ensuing possession. The win pushed the Hornets’ record on the young 2024-25 season to 5-7, which isn’t great but is maybe ahead of where some pundits would have expected them to be at this point in the year.</p><p>Up next for the Hornets is a road date with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are the NBA’s lone remaining undefeated team at a perfect 14-0, and making that challenge <a href="https://x.com/rodboone/status/1858209516720124239" rel="noopener">even more difficult</a> for the Hornets is the concerning injury report the team released earlier in the day on Sunday.</p><p>“LaMelo (left index sprain) is questionable for tonight’s game against Cleveland,” reported Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer on X, formerly Twitter. “Same goes for Miles Bridges (right knee, injury management) and Tre Mann (low back, injury management) are also questionable. <a href="https://x.com/hashtag/Hornets?src=hashtag_click">#Hornets</a> could be on the thin side against the undefeated Cavs.”</p><h2><b>A tough challenge for the Hornets</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Ball-vs-the-Bucks.jpg"><figcaption>Jim Dedmon-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>LaMelo Ball has been having the best season of his young career thus far in 2024-25, averaging north of 29 points and six assists per game on solid efficiency both from the field and beyond the three point line.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Hornets are banking on the continued ascension of second year man Brandon Miller out of Alabama, who made the All Rookie first team a season ago but has missed some time thus far this year due to injury.</p><p>The Cavaliers, meanwhile, have been red hot to start out the season, having put together the most wins to begin an NBA campaign since the golden State Warriors rattled off 24 in a row during the 2015-16 season, which they finished a record 73-9.</p><p>We know about Donovan Mitchell and his status as arguably the best shooting guard in the NBA, but several of the Cavs’ supporting cast members have been revelations this year, including Darius Garland’s improved efficiency as well as Evan Mobley’s increased aggressiveness on the offensive end of the floor when looking for his shot.</p><p>With both LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges potentially out of the lineup for the Hornets, it could be a very tall task for Charlotte to say the least to try to hand the Cavaliers their very first loss of the year.</p><p>In any case, the game between the Hornets and the Cavaliers is slated to tip off at 6:00 PM ET from Cleveland.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He also only attempted one free throw the entire game, which is also a season-low.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-vs-hornets-prediction-odds-pick-11-16-2024">Hornets had a game plan</a>, and they stuck to it. Limiting one of the best finishers in the game to too many paint touches or forcing him to take those foul line pull-up jumpers. Including the one Antetokounmpo attempted to win the game, which he missed to give the Hornets the 115-114 victory.</p><h2><b>Miles Bridges felt like that was the best shot to force at the end of the game</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/In-line-image-of-Hornets-Miles-Bridges.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: Scott Kinser-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Miles Bridges kept it real when it came down to Antetokounmpo’s final jumper.</p><p>“I wouldn’t say we wanted Giannis to shoot that, but we wanted Giannis to shoot that. We didn’t want him going to the rim, that’s what he does best. So he shot it, we got the board, and we got the win.”</p><p>There isn’t a way to shut down players of that caliber, so trying to force them into shots or situations that aren’t as ideal as their first option is going to always be the best course of action. Antetokounmpo could have very well drained that shot and it would not have come as a surprise to anyone if he did. Not even Bridges, who echoed these sentiments when asked if he was surprised he took that shot.</p><p>“Nah, he’s one of the greatest players to play this game. Any player is gonna shoot that shot, so I wasn’t really surprised.”</p><h2><b>Josh Green praises Grant Williams for his defense on Bucks’ star</b></h2><p>Giannis Antetokounmpo’s primary defender was Grant Williams, who did a solid job considering the outcome was a Hornets win. Josh Green gave Williams his props for his efforts on one of the best players in the world.</p><p>“I think Grant really took this challenge head-on in guarding one of the greatest players in the game. Grant did a great job and I think guys really bought into the assignment in having Grant’s back. It was great individual defense by Grant and our goal was to be able to help him. It was real cool to see the team take on the challenge.”</p><p>Team defense was able to seal the deal at the end, but Williams was able to force Antetokounmpo into tougher shots than usual. Granted, he <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore/_/gameId/401704795" rel="noopener">still was 50% from the field</a>, but he did just enough to ensure Charlotte’s win.</p><h2><b>Charles Lee cosigns on Grant Williams’ efforts</b></h2><p>Hornets head coach Charles Lee took time to praise his starting center’s efforts as well in their win.</p><p>“I thought on that last play, Grant (Williams), who all game was the primary defender on Antetokounmpo, did a really good job,” Lee said. “He kept him in front, understood his tendencies. I thought all the guys around him understood how to kind of fake and fade and make it seem like there was a crowd there, make it seem like we were going to come help. He settled for a jumper and I thought we had a great contest, and we finished it with a deflection out of bounds.”</p><p>It’s not every day teams could hold Giannis Antetokounmpo to under 30 points. Through 13 games that’s only happened four times. Charlotte deployed the right defensive schemes to slow down one of the all-time greats. Now, they <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-vs-cavaliers-prediction-odds-pick-11-17-2024">have to do it again against a great Cleveland Cavaliers</a> team in the second half of a back-to-back.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
