We’ll see, but it’s up to them.”</p><p>The irony is that as Embiid continues to flirt with load management, the 76ers also continue to lose, therefore needing their superstar center to play even more games just for them to qualify for the playoffs.</p><p>As of Monday, the 76ers have fallen to a 2-11 record after the Heat blew them out 106-89. Before the game, the team had ruled Embiid out, but he ultimately decided to play, though he only had 11 points on 5-11 shooting, eight rebounds, five assists, and a block.</p><p>The Lakers had pulled off the unlikely comeback from a 2-10 record to make the Conference Finals two seasons ago, because their best players played like their best players while the organization improved the roster by adding players that fit.</p><p>For the 76ers, they added good players, but their best player has many questions to answer so far.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Beverley listed Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen, Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner, 76ers center Mo Bamba, Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams and New Orleans Pelicans guard CJ McCollum in that order.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-trade-deadline-lakers-trade-patrick-beverley-to-magic-for-mo-bamba">Beverley and Bamba have a history</a> since they were traded for each other in the 2023 season’s trade deadline. Needless to say, the big man didn’t take too kindly to his former teammates’ list, going after Beverley in a <a href="https://twitter.com/TheRealMoBamba/status/1770949979705942188">series of tweets</a>.</p><p>“Alright, I got time today @patbevpod. The Sixers’ 25-year-old center will be making a return to his very first NBA home.</p><p>Bamba was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers at last season’s trade deadline but this will be his first time facing the Magic in their arena. In fact, it’ll be his first time facing the team that drafted him with the sixth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Bamba was sidelined with an ankle injury when the Lakers and Magic faced off in March in Los Angeles.</p><p>When asked about his return to Orlando after the Sixers’ <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-vs-heat-instant-breakdown-tyrese-maxey-bam-adebayo" rel="noopener">Christmas Day loss</a> to the Miami Heat, Bamba said he’s excited to see his former teammates and face them in a game.</p><p>“I don’t care about those people…Nah, I’m joking,” Bamba said with a laugh. “That’s family over there. I’m probably gonna stop by Jalen Suggs’ mom’s house tomorrow just to kick it or whatever. But that’s family. Cole [Anthony], Wendell [Carter Jr.], ‘Kelle [Markelle Fultz], those are guys that I grew up with in the league…It’s going to be fun.”</p><p>With Joel Embiid again <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-news-joel-embiid-ankle-injury-status-vs-magic" rel="noopener">sidelined with an ankle sprain</a> and the Magic possessing a lot of size and physicality, Bamba should see plenty of playing time. He shined on Christmas, scoring 18 points on 7-8 shooting.</p><p>Bamba played 266 games for the Magic over four and a half seasons, averaging 7.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 18.3 minutes per game. Orlando developed him behind Nikola Vucevic and made him a starter alongside another young center, Carter, before moving him back to the bench the next season and then trading him to the Lakers in a deal that involved current Sixer Patrick Beverley.</p><p>After he was traded, Bamba penned <a href="https://x.com/TheRealMoBamba/status/1623870733108535299?s=20" rel="noopener">a goodbye note</a> that said he would root for the Magic as long as they weren’t playing the Lakers. It’s easy to assume that this is now the case for the Sixers. As he prepares for one of the few games where he isn’t rooting for Orlando, he’s still keeping the memories and friendships he made in that time fresh in his head.</p><p>“Still in the groupchat,” Mo Bamba said. “Still shooting it. Still making jokes. Unfortunately, the Sixers have repeatedly come up short in the playoffs <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-news-phillys-plan-to-help-joel-embiid-improve-in-the-playoffs-revealed-by-daryl-morey" rel="noopener">throughout the Joel Embiid era</a>, and they appear to be stuck in the dreaded no-man’s land of second-round exits and occasional conference finals appearances that end up being non-competitive.</p><p>The biggest factor holding the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-news-philly-fans-up-in-arms-amid-brutal-joel-embiid-injury-news" rel="noopener">Sixers back is Embiid’s health</a>.</p><p>This is why the 76ers have invested significant time and resources into finding a capable backup center to give Embiid a breather without costing the team games. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-news-philly-agrees-to-contract-with-mo-bamba-to-provide-depth-behind-joel-embiid" rel="noopener">team acquired Mo Bamba</a> in the summer of 2023. As a former top-10 pick, Bamba could prove to be one of the best backup centers the Sixers have had since Embiid has been in town.</p><p>This year, Bamba has been effective in limited minutes. If Bamba can keep up his level of play while taking on more minutes, it could help the Sixers keep Embiid rested and healthy for the postseason.</p><h2><b>Joel Embiid is Philadelphia’s most important player, but availability has been a problem</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Sixers-Joel-Embiid-1.webp"></figure><p>Joel Embiid is by far the most important player on the 76ers roster, but the big man has significant mileage on his body and has suffered serious injuries in almost every season since his debut — which was delayed two years due to foot injuries. </p><p>Some of these injuries were freak accidents. However, there is little doubt that Embiid’s body type and the way that he plays the game makes him more prone to injuries. </p><p>Embiid is 7-foot-2 and weighs more than 270 pounds and he is not shy about throwing his weight around and bullying opposing players on the court. He also hits the ground frequently (you can call it flopping if you want to, but sometimes when you are significantly bigger and stronger than your opponent, you have to embellish a bit to get the refs to give you a whistle), and when you weigh as much as Embiid does, every time you crash to the floor you put extra stress on your body compared to a smaller guard or forward. </p><p>While it is normal for a team to experience a drop in play when their best player goes to the bench, the 76ers over the years have seen a significantly steeper decline than most teams, especially most contenders. This decline is demonstrated through both advanced statistics and the eye test.</p><p>The Sixers don’t need a superstar when Embiid sits, but they need somebody who can protect the rim defensively and help other defenders while also rebounding on both ends of the court and consistently scoring in the paint.</p><h2><b>Embiid can’t continue to play so many minutes</b></h2><p>The Sixers have been stuck with a dilemma in recent seasons: They have to limit the number of minutes and games Embiid plays in order to give him the best shot at being healthy for the postseason, but they also need him to play in enough games to have a good enough record to earn home-court advantage in the playoffs.</p><p>Embiid’s health and injury history puts the Sixers in a unique position. While a running mate is very important (and Tyrese Maxey has emerged to fill that role quite nicely in the early part of this season), a backup center to give Embiid a breather and nights off might be even more essential to Philadelphia’s championship hopes than the other three spots in the starting lineup.</p><p>Indeed, Philadelphia has tried for years to find somebody to consistently and reliably spell Embiid. Unfortunately for the Sixers, they always seem to run into the same problem.  Whenever Embiid goes to the bench, there is such a dropoff in play that the team looks completely unrecognizable. </p><p>From Jahlil Okafor and Richaun Holmes to household names like Andre Drummond and DeAndre Jordan, the Sixers have continually struggled to make things work on both ends of the court without Embiid. There was even the failed experiment with Al Horford, who played alongside Embiid and also saw minutes at backup center when Embiid was getting a breather.</p><h2><b>A tale of two teams</b></h2><p>The story has been much the same for the Sixers in the Joel Embiid era, even throughout different iterations of the roster. You have the Sixers with Embiid on the court, where they look like the most dominant team in the league and are borderline unstoppable, and then you have the Sixers without Embiid on the court, where they look completely incompetent, go long stretches without scoring while giving up bucket after bucket on the defensive end, and generally look like they would struggle to beat one of the better college teams. </p><h2><b>Bamba is an ideal backup</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Sixers-news-Mo-Bamba-gets-vocal-amid-early-preseason-struggles-with-Philly.jpg"></figure><p>In Mo Bamba, the Sixers may have finally found the ideal Embiid backup. Bamba is an energetic athlete who plays a physical style of basketball. He is an <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bambamo01.html" rel="noopener">excellent shot blocker</a> and rebounder on both ends of the court, which is just what the Sixers need. Offensively, he won’t stretch the floor the same way that Embiid does, but when he gets good positioning near the bucket he can score consistently.</p><h2><b>Load management for Embiid</b></h2><p>For the Sixers, it isn’t just staying competitive in non-Embiid minutes. Sure, Embiid isn’t the type of guy who should be playing 40 minutes a night, but he also shouldn’t be playing in every game either. </p><p>Due to his body type and physical style of play, it is important to give Embiid nights off and keep him as rested and healthy as possible for a deep playoff run. However, the team needs to make sure they have somebody who can handle an increased workload and keep the team competitive when Embiid has the night off. </p><p>Bamba can be that guy, and he can help the team win while also protecting the health of Philadelphia’s most important player. Last season, that job went to Montrezl Harrell early and eventually went to Paul Reed. While the Sixers resigned both Harrell and Reed in the offseason, they also added Mo Bamba to compete for backup center minutes as well. While the Sixers continue to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-news-james-harden-breaks-silence-on-trade-demand-situation-plans-to-play-in-preseason" rel="noopener">navigate</a> the James Harden drama during the preseason, another storyline to watch for is Bamba’s early struggles. Bamba recently <a href="https://sixerswire.usatoday.com/2023/10/13/mo-bamba-discusses-comfort-urgency-level-with-sixers-in-preseason/" rel="noopener">spoke out</a> about what he needs to do to be better while trying to fit in with his new team as per Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire.</p><p>“I wouldn’t say a sense of comfort,” Bamba said. “I would say my sense of urgency just needs to be higher. Just being ready to play, being ready to dominate the details, but as far as just familiar faces and familiar offense, I think that’s starting to slowly become second nature.”</p><p>Through the Sixers first two preseason games, Mo Bamba is shooting only 23.1 percent from the field. In his first game, he finished with seven points and six rebounds shooting 3-9 from the field. In the second game he finished with only three rebounds and three fouls while missing all four of his shots.</p><p>Bamba joined the Sixers as a free agent after splitting last season between the Orlando Magic and the Los Angeles Lakers. In 49 games between the two teams, Bamba averaged 6.6 points and 4.6 rebounds with splits of 48.5 percent shooting from the field, 38.7 percent shooting from the three-point line and 66.1 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Embiid, the reigning MVP of the league, apparently played a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-news-mo-bamba-details-how-he-and-joel-embiid-can-thrive-in-two-center-lineup" rel="noopener">major factor</a> in the signing of Mo Bamba this offseason, who became a free agent after spending the end of last season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Joel Embiid was vocal about wanting Bamba <a href="https://sixerswire.usatoday.com/lists/mo-bamba-opens-up-on-nick-nurse-joel-embiid-sixers-past-failures/" rel="noopener">to choose</a> the Sixers, as Bamba told Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire.</p><p>“Jo was probably the biggest in recruiting me,” Bamba said. “Everyone else was ‘Hey, it would be nice to have you,’ but Jo was probably the biggest. He was the first person that kind of like, helped me have that light bulb turned on at the time of free agency. I was looking at a few other teams, but Jo — and it was just a conversation that came up in passing and we revisited the conversation and he was like, ‘Listen, I’m not telling you where to go. At the end of the day, you’re in charge of your own career, but it’d be good to have you in the city.’ ”</p><p>Mo Bamba is expected to be the primary backup to Embiid this season, as Montrezl Harrell <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-big-man-montrezl-harrells-official-status-after-surgery-revealed" rel="noopener">tore his ACL</a> earlier this offseason. The Elephants are coming off of a second-place finish in the 2023 FIBA AfroCan after going 5-1, losing to Morocco in a 78-76 nail-biter as big man Mike Fofana left with All-Star honors.</p><p>Côte d’Ivoire will be making its fifth FIBA World Cup appearance and their first back-to-back appearance since 1986.</p><p>Their last World Cup appearance (2019) was a forgettable one, as the Elephants finished in 29th place with an 0-5 record. However, the Ivorian men’s national team finished 10th place in the FIBA AfroCan that same year with an 0-3 record. Their jump from 10th-place to 2nd-place in that tournament over the past four years provides just enough belief that they can have a much more impressive showing this time around.</p><p>So too does the arrival of Bamba, who has averaged 9.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks over the past two seasons while shooting 38.3 percent from 3-point range. The tall, easy-going former college and Orlando Magic star has a lot to say about his plans for thriving in the ‘City of Brotherly Love.’</p><p>Bamba has high <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-news-mo-bamba-details-how-he-and-joel-embiid-can-thrive-in-two-center-lineup" rel="noopener">hopes for playing alongside Joel Embiid</a>. The Sixers added Bamba for depth purposes and recently made a critical roster move on another depth player <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-news-philly-makes-critical-paul-reed-decision-after-jazz-offer" rel="noopener">that the Jazz attempted to steal</a>.</p><p>“The next step for me is just consistency,” Bamba <a href="https://www.inquirer.com/sports/sixers-mo-bamba-nba-free-agency-joel-embiid-20230711.html?int_promo=" rel="noopener">said according to The Philadelphia Inquirer</a>. “Barring any injuries, just being out there and, you know, doing what I do best, protecting the rim, touching the floor and being so much more of a lob threat.</p><p>“I’m really looking forward to playing with the group of guys that we’ve got here. But I think consistency in all things I do out there on the floor is the biggest thing for me.”</p><p>Last season, Bamba <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/4277919/mo-bamba" rel="noopener">averaged 3.7 points</a> and 4.6 rebounds with the Los Angeles Lakers in nine games. He averaged 7.3 points in 40 games with Magic, also adding 4.6 rebounds per game.</p><p>Bamba, a 7-foot, 230 pound center, has drawn attention in the past for adding muscle to his often thought of as “slight” frame. He has made 35.9 percent of his three-pointers over six NBA seasons, but has had a hard time staying healthy for an entire season.</p><p>The former Texas Longhorns star will need to improve his assist-to-turnover ratio to become a true impact player with the Sixers in Philadelphia. The 25-year-old big man joins Paul Reed and Montrezl Harrell on the Sixers roster as they <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-news-daryl-morey-welcomes-patrick-beverley-mo-bamba-to-philly-after-official-signings" rel="noopener">jostle for minutes off the bench</a>.</p><p>Bamba, a native of Harlem, New York, became a Sixers fan during his time at Westtown School in the nearby town of West Chester. The passion that Philly fans had made him want to <a href="https://twitter.com/BySamDiGiovanni/status/1678492985787314185?s=20" rel="noopener">root for the team</a>. Now, he will get the chance to contribute to the “winning pedigree” in Philly.</p><p>Unlike many of Embiid’s previous backups, Bamba is a strong outside shooter. In his five-year career, Bamba has made 35.9 percent of his attempt from deep and has raised the rate at which he attempts threes each season. A shade over half of his attempts came from deep last season. His ability to stretch the floor and make defenses pay for being overly aggressive against rim pressure gives him an intriguing theoretical fit next to Embiid on the court. Could that double-big lineup work? For many reasons, it very well could.</p><p>For starters, Bamba said that he and Embiid have a great relationship that started when Embiid introduced him to his trainer, Drew Hanlen. Bamba called Embiid “an easy person to just learn from.” During free agency, the Sixers superstar pitched Bamba on Philly with the idea that the team fits him and that they could potentially spend time on the floor together.</p><p>Bamba recalls Embiid’s pitch going like this: “Listen, this might sound a little crazy because we’ve been playing against each other so much. But it looks like the Sixers would be a good fit for you. I don’t know exactly what it will look like as far as playing together or not playing together. But I think we can play together.”</p><p>The idea works mainly because Embiid has skills that are rarely seen from a center. “Jo, believe it or not, believes that he can be positionless. He’s such a scoring threat on the floor, he’s such a dominant force out there to where it might open up things for other players,” Bamba said. “The way how I’ve been progressing my game to be a stretch five, stretch four, I think there’s very much of a chance that we can play together.”</p><p>Embiid serving as the focal point of the offense creates space on the perimeter to shoot. Given Philly’s need to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-biggest-need-2023-nba-offseason" rel="noopener">expand its offense</a> past the James Harden-Embiid pick-and-roll and isolations from each star, Bamba not only being a good shooter but being someone who can occasionally catch lobs from the baseline makes him a sound supporting piece.</p><p>Defensively, Bamba has made a name for himself by swatting shots, a skill that made him the sixth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. With him and Embiid, it would leave one rim protector further out on the perimeter. Both players are equipped to hold their own out there but in a perimeter-centric league that relies so much on screens to free up shooters, it has the downside of potentially being overly taxing.</p><p>It takes a certain set of skills between both centers to play well together. Bamba explained the ins and outs of what bigs who play together need to be able to do in order to thrive.</p><p>“I think a two-big lineup only really works if you have a back-to-the-basket player in one big, say your five-man. The four-man needs to be a really good shooter. It’s just spacing,” Bamba said. “It gets really when frustrating when you can’t really even go to your jump hook and the paint’s getting clogged. Or if you go to your face-up and there’s a guy just standing, clogging the lane…”</p><p>“But defensively, I think in order to put out a two-big lineup, there’s a level of defensive versatility that needs to be out there,” the Sixers center continued. “It could work with two guys in a drop coverage and might be a little harder because of the direction of the game. A lot of fours, you see a lot more Jonathan Isaac and Jaden McDaniels and even Naz Reids at the four. Those guys can put it down on the floor and do a couple of things as opposed to when I first got in the league. They were kind of more like stretch fours, kind of pick-and-pop guys. But defensively if you have a level of versatility out there with a guy who can switch, who can rim protect, a guy who can do a lot of different things, I think that’ll definitely help the lineup.”</p><p>It takes more than two to tango in this dance, as the right personnel has to both surround the two bigs and fill the three lineup spots around them. The Sixers’ new coach, Nick Nurse, has a history of finding success with two-big lineups in the past and the talent around them (as the roster stands now) is in good enough shape for the Embiid-Bamba duo to work.</p><p>Bamba said that he had a “great conversation” with Nurse, saying that the Sixers coach is “one of the most creative coaches since I’ve been in the league with the lineups that he’s put out there.” Bamba noted one particular pairing that suggests he will get chances to play alongside Embiid.</p><p>“If you look at his championship run back in 2019 when I came into the league, he played a lot of two-bigs,” Bamba said. “He played a lot of Serge [Ibaka] and Marc Gasol until four or five slots. And he made it work. His creativity and watching him blossom as one of the most respected coaches in the league has been fun to watch.”</p><p>Although Bamba said that he and Nurse didn’t discuss the specifics of his role, that Toronto tandem — and even Nurse’s frequent pairing of Chris Boucher and Precious Achiuwa over the past few years, too — is evidence that Nurse likes what he sees from big men with complimentary play styles.</p><p>Ideally, you would want solid wing defenders to deter perimeter shooters and funnel players into the two centers, who can better affect shots. This is an area that the Sixers roster needs work in, as their collection of wings is suspect. Playmaking and more three-point spacing compliment the bigs on offense and in that area, Philly is doing well with Harden (for now) to dish it and a few solid shooters, namely the swish-happy Maxey, to make the offensive fit funky in a good way.</p><p>Whether Bamba spends a good amount of time around Embiid, plays mostly at the five or primarily just runs as the floor-spacing big next to Reed off the bench, he can be the type of high-upside player that provides an impactful wrinkle for the Sixers.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Both players were signed to one-year minimum deals and will provide depth for a Sixers team that has lost numerous free agents.</p><p>Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey tweeted at each player along with one of their highlight reels to welcome them to the team. Tucker, De’Anthony Melton, Danuel House Jr. and Montrezl Harrell. In Beverley and Bamba, the Sixers again sought players known for their defense — the former is a menace on the perimeter and the latter is a nimble, long-armed rim protector. Both guys have been good three-point shooters throughout their careers, too, respectively shooting 37.3 percent and 35.9 percent from deep.</p><p>Patrick Beverley, who said he joined the Sixers after getting a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sixers-news-doc-rivers-eye-opening-message-to-patrick-beverley-convinced-him-to-sign-with-philly" rel="noopener">great endorsement of the team</a> from Doc Rivers, will wear no. 22 as he teams up with James Harden, Montrezl Harrell and Tobias Harris again. The press release shared that the former standout at Westtown School in West Chester, PA is one of 15 players in the NBA to rack up at least 2,000 points, 365 blocks and 100 steals since entering the league in 2018.</p><p>Beverley will be the Sixers’ new backup point guard, replacing Shake Milton, whose new contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves was also <a href="https://www.nba.com/timberwolves/news/timberwolves-sign-shake-milton" rel="noopener">made official</a>. Meanwhile, Bamba will compete with Montrezl Harrell for backup center minutes. In the meantime, they are looking to replenish depth. Their latest signing, 25-year-old center Mo Bamba, will serve as a backup for Joel Embiid.</p><p>Bamba is <a href="https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1676750018013806592?s=20" rel="noopener">signing a one-year deal</a> with the Sixers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The contract is a <a href="https://twitter.com/KyleNeubeck/status/1676749947683631105?s=20" rel="noopener">minimum deal</a>, per Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice. The former first-round draft pick will play behind Embiid on a Philly team that lost multiple players to free agency, including one of their backup centers, Montrezl Harrell.</p><p>In 49 games last season (40 with the Orlando Magic and nine with the Los Angeles Lakers), Bamba averaged 6.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from deep. His ability to shoot at his size — standing at 7-foot-0 with a 7-foot-10 wingspan — gives him intriguing upside as someone who could potentially spend time playing alongside Embiid for short spurts.</p><p>Bamba’s addition gives the Sixers some length and athleticism off the bench, though his addition is a curious one given that Paul Reed, who emerged as a fan favorite and quality backup for Embiid, remains unsigned. However, the Sixers still have serious interest in keeping him.</p><p>“Philadelphia is bringing in Bamba with the intention of keeping restricted free agent Paul Reed, but Bamba gives the Sixers some security behind Joel Embiid if they do lose Reed,” writes Wojnarowski, adding to multiple reports stating that Reed and Philly are interested in a reunion. Reed is a restricted free agent, so the only way he would leave is if the team chose not to match an offer sheet he signed.</p><p>There is already some familiarity between Bamba and the Sixers. In January of 2022, Bamba scored a career-high 32 points in Wells Fargo Center, though it came in a losing effort. Prior to the start of the frenzy, the Lakers decided to <a href="https://twitter.com/JakeLFischer/status/1674507929976729612" rel="noopener">waive</a> center Mo Bamba, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.</p><p>‘The Lakers are waiving Mo Bamba, according to a league source.’</p><p>The Lakers have been plenty active behind the scenes and are linked to a number of big names, including Denver Nuggets reserve Bruce Brown. However, Bamba’s name has been a popular trade piece, along with Malik Beasley. Leading up to the NBA Draft, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-4-2023-nba-draft-trades-no-17-pick-malik-beasley-mo-bamba/" rel="noopener">Beasley-Bamba package</a> was floated for a potential deal, but nothing came to fruition.</p><p>Bamba was acquired in the middle of the season <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-trade-deadline-lakers-trade-patrick-beverley-to-magic-for-mo-bamba/" rel="noopener">in a trade</a> with the Orlando Magic that sent Patrick Beverley out of town, but Bamba played just nine regular-season games and three postseason contests <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-mo-bamba-injury-fans-calling-demarcus-cousins-reunion/" rel="noopener">due to an injury</a>.</p><p>With LeBron James expected to return and Anthony Davis back in the fold, the Lakers now are rumored to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-las-austin-reaves-rui-hachimura-official-fa-announcements/" rel="noopener">bring back Austin Reaves</a> and potentially Rui Hachimura. The Bulls are a franchise with financial incentive to make major changes to their roster, especially with a middling team that’s expecting to be without Lonzo Ball for a second straight season.</p><p>Ball, a talented two-way playmaker, has $41.8 million remaining on his contract through 2024-25.</p><p>With that in mind, the Lakers could potentially acquire Andre Drummond and Carlik Jones by taking on Ball’s contract for the next two seasons, trading Beasley and Bamba’s expiring contracts to the Bulls in return.</p><p>Although it’s unclear if they could use Ball’s injury to request a Disabled Players Exception that would allow them to sign a player on a one-year contract up to $9.3 million, there could be an extra benefit to bringing Ball back as well. This isn’t to say his experience and basketball IQ won’t be useful even if he couldn’t suit up.</p><p>Nonetheless, with rookie <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/2023-nba-draft-lakers-select-jalen-hood-schifino-no-17-pick" rel="noopener">first-round choice Jalen Hood-Schifino</a> and a re-signed D’Angelo Russell, the Lakers have a solid 1-2 punch at point guard. Carlik Jones averaged 29.0 points, 12.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game in a pair of G League appearances back in the 2021-22 season.</p><p>Drummond would return to L.A. as an exceptional rebounder and true center with the size they need against a player like two-time MVP Nikola Jokic.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
