Kenzo is also an avid filmmaker and holds extensive knowledge of basketball.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Golden State Warriors</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Update: Moses Moody <a href="https://x.com/anthonyVslater/status/1981821567375225048" rel="noopener">will make his regular season debut</a> for the Golden State Warriors against the Portland Trail Blazers, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater.</p><p>Moses Moody’s return could not come at a better time.</p><p>The Golden State Warriors are hopeful that <a href="https://x.com/anthonyVslater/status/1981517567039881311" rel="noopener">the fifth-year wing will make his season debut</a> on the road versus the Portland Trail Blazers, the back end of an early-season back-to-back. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/steve-kerr-reveals-moses-moody-starting-lineup-intention">Moody has missed the first two games</a> of the season due to a minor left calf strain sustained in training camp, but has a chance to return to the lineup in Portland. The Warriors never expressed too much concern for Moody’s calf strain, but opted for caution given how tricky that injury can become.</p><p>Pre-game, before <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-new-death-lineup-beat-nuggets">Golden State’s overtime win over the Denver Nuggets</a>, head coach Steve Kerr shared his optimism for Moody’s return.</p><p>“We’re hopeful that he’ll play tomorrow,” Kerr said at the time. “He scrimmaged yesterday. We didn’t have practice, but some of the low-minute guys came in [to scrimmage]. I talked to Moses today, and he said he’s feeling good. So I’m hopeful he’ll play tomorrow night and that’s the plan.”</p><p>Golden State will be a bit shorthanded as they <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-al-horford-back-to-back-status-gets-firm-steve-kerr-confirmation">will not have Al Horford due to load management</a>. Horford will not play both games in any back-to-backs this season, and he already got his run in 26 taxing minutes versus Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. The plan is still to play Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green, but they each played upwards of 34 minutes. Hence, Moody’s return to the lineup comes at a convenient time. Golden State gets some youth and athleticism back that should give the veterans some relief on both ends and allow Steve Kerr to distribute the minutes to ease their burden.</p><h2>How Moody figures to fit into the Warriors’ lineup</h2><p>Before his calf strain, Moody was projected to start for Golden State and serve as their de facto point-of-attack defender. Following the Jimmy Butler trade last season, Moody rose to the starting lineup next to Curry, Green, Brandin Podziemski, and the newly acquired star, a combination that became Golden State’s most potent in their 23-8 sprint to the playoffs.</p><p>In 211 minutes, that 5-man combination had a 120.6 offensive rating, a 104.2 defensive rating, and a 16.4 net rating, not to mention a 2.45 assist-to-turnover ratio. Moody, in that lineup, guarded the opposing team’s ballhandlers. And on the other end, spaced the floor as a shooting and slashing threat. The wheels fell off a bit for Moody in the postseason as his shooting numbers declined. But a big part of the decline came due to a UCL injury in his right thumb he was playing through. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-moses-moody-breaks-silence-playing-torn-ucl">Moody underwent surgery on his thumb</a> in the offseason and described how the rehab process helped him get better with his off-hand.</p><p>Moody should be able to return to form once he returns from his calf strain. His shooting looked as good as ever in training camp before he suffered the calf strain. His 3-and-D versatility gives Kerr another tool to use depending on the matchup. The head coach has stressed that the team has a lot to figure out rotationally, as they have yet to nail that down. But given how Moody does the two things Kerr wants for his system, defense and spacing, his reintegration shouldn’t be too difficult.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr opted to go with Brandin Podziemski and Jonathan Kuminga in the starting lineup, alongside Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler. Following the game, Kerr <a href="https://x.com/957thegame/status/1981158527923343491" rel="noopener">hinted at a potential</a> starting lineup change for the Warriors once Moses Moody returns to the court, as per 95.7 The Game.</p><p>“The lineup decision was based on Moses Moody not being available,” Steve Kerr said. “I would have started Moses had he been healthy, based on how we finished last year. We really found a good group.”</p><p>It was not clear, however, if Kerr was referring to either Podziemski or Kuminga being replaced by Moody in the starting lineup. Lineup-wise, it would make much more sense for Podziemski to move to the bench and Moody to slot in at shooting guard alongside Stephen Curry in the backcourt. Replacing Kuminga with Moody would only complicate things in that the Warriors would be making themselves incredibly vulnerable given that potential lineup’s lack of size.</p><p>The starting lineup that ended the season last year for the Warriors was actually the latter with Curry, Butler, Green, Moody and Podziemski being the group that began the team’s playoff series against the Houston Rockets. Kerr opted to change his starting lineup multiple times in that series, with Kuminga and Quinten Post starting in Game 3, Buddy Hield starting in Game 4 and Gary Payton II starting in Game 6.</p><p>Last season, Moody appeared in a career-high 74 games, including 34 starts, at a little over 22 minutes per game. He averaged 9.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists with splits of 43.3 percent shooting from the field, 37.4 percent shooting from the three-point line and 79.7 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>The No. 14 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-moses-moody-dealing-calf-injury">Moody is dealing with a calf injury</a> that kept him out of the season opener against the Lakers.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He recorded career-highs across the board as he saw his minutes increase as the Warriors’ spark plug off the bench, sometimes spelling superstar teammate Stephen Curry.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-moses-moody-breaks-silence-playing-torn-ucl">Golden State viewed Moody as part of its future</a> after selecting him as the 14th overall pick in 2021. He, however, played a limited role in his first three years before finally gaining the full trust of coach Steve Kerr.</p><p>It doesn’t hurt that Moody constantly sees the work ethic of Curry. Perhaps the silver lining to a disappointing finish. Moody <a href="https://www.audacy.com/stations/957thegame/shows/willard-dibs-c67c4/episodes/e8d029ed9652?action=AUTOPLAY_FULL&amp;actionContentId=101-897" rel="noopener">discussed playing through a torn UCL</a> amidst the Warriors’ playoff race, per 95.7 The Game’s “Willard &amp; Dibs.”</p><p>“It was really tough,” Moody said. “I didn’t know it was torn at that point, but I couldn’t really use it, and it hurt to catch the ball, to dribble the ball, all of that type of stuff. But I mean, I could play around it. I’d make it a point to say, like if I’m going to play, then I’m not going to say, ‘Ok, every time I mess up it’s because my hand hurt.’ Like if that’s the case, then you shouldn’t play.”</p><p>Moody wanted to help the Warriors reach their goal.</p><p>“We were trying to make the playoffs going down the stretch,” Moody said. “And if I knew it was torn, I probably would have sat out, but we had to make the playoffs.”</p><p>Still, unable to use the thumb of his shooting hand, Moody admits the injury limited his offensive mobility.</p><p>“So that ligament really is your thumb, I couldn’t palm the ball, so pretty much anything using your thumb,” Moody said. “But, I made ways, to like I would shoot without my thumb, and then I would catch the ball without it hitting my thumb. With hopes of making a deep playoff run, the Warriors will need Moody to build off of his fourth NBA season. He’s expected to make a full recovery ahead of training camp.</p><p>Moody averaged 9.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game while shooting 37.4 percent from 3-point range in 74 games during the 2024-25 regular season.
