In wake of signing free agent center JaVale McGee, Sacramento has reportedly waived Nerlens Noels and Neemias Queta, affording them the opportunity to sign with another team as official preparations for 2023-24 fast approach.</p><p>“ESPN sources: After signing JaVale McGee to a free agent deal, the Sacramento Kings are waiving centers Nerlens Noel and Neemias Queta to give them a chance to play elsewhere,” Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweeted on Tuesday. “Both signed partially guaranteed one-year deals with Kings this summer.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-news-three-time-nba-champion-with-warriors-lakers-signs-with-the-kings" rel="noopener">Sacramento agreed to terms with McGee</a> last week on a one-year, fully guaranteed deal.. The veteran big man played 2022-23 with the Dallas Mavericks, disappointing compared to internal expectations after signing a three-year, $17.2 million contract last summer to be the team’s starting center.</p><p>McGee lost that job less than two weeks into the season, though, relegated to deep-reserve status for its remainder. Dallas stretched his contract and waived the 35-year-old in late August, no surprise considering the two seasons and $11.7 million remaining on his former deal. The releases of Noel and Queta are hardly shocking, either, following recent reporting about <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-news-javale-mcgee-alex-len-roster-plan-for-2023-24-revealed" rel="noopener">Sacramento’s plans</a> to use both McGee and incumbent reserve Alex Len as backups to All-Star Domantas Sabonis up front in 2023-24.</p><p>A former top-10 draft pick, nagging injuries have sapped Noel of the rare quick-twitch athleticism that one made him one of basketball’s most disruptive interior defenders. He spent last season with the Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets, appearing in just 17 total games.</p><p>The Kings selected Queta out of Utah State with the No. 39 overall pick of the 2021 draft. He played just 20 games for the team over the past two seasons, biding most of his time with with the G League’s Stockton Kings. The seven-footer from Portugal emerged as a star in the G League last season, averaging 16.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game en route to All-G League First Team and All-Defense honors.</p><p>Training camps for 2023-24 open league-wide on October 3rd.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Follow on Twitter below.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Brooklyn Nets are progressing <a href="https://twitter.com/erikslater_/status/1636342272089288704" rel="noopener">toward a deal</a> with free agent center Moses Brown, sources tell The Athletic’s Shams Charania.</p><p>The move comes after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nets-news-nerlens-noel-inks-deal-with-brooklyn-after-pistons-buyout" rel="noopener">Nerlens Noel’s 10-day contract</a> expired Wednesday. Noel struggled to make an impact in three games with Brooklyn after a buyout from Detroit, averaging 1.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 14.3 minutes.</p><p>Brown opened the season on a two-way deal with the Clippers, where he averaged 4.6 points and 4.1 rebounds in just 8.5 minutes per game. Los Angeles released the 23-year-old upon their acquisition of Mason Plumlee at the trade deadline. Brown subsequently signed a two-way deal with the Knicks last week but was waived four days later after one appearance with their G League affiliate.</p><p>The big man’s most active NBA stint came with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2020-21, appearing in 43 games while starting 32. He averaged 8.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 21.4 minutes.</p><p>At 7’2″, 245 pounds, Brown offers far more size compared to Noel behind starting center Nic Claxton. The UCLA product is limited offensively with his best attribute being his rebounding, an area where Brooklyn has struggled all season. Those deficiencies were amplified in the Nets’ last two games as they surrendered 15 offensive rebounds to Denver Sunday and 14 to Oklahoma City Tuesday. Jacque Vaughn’s squad <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/defensive-rebounding?dir=D&amp;sort=DREB_CONTEST_PCT" rel="noopener">ranks 27th</a> in contested defensive rebound percentage for the year.</p><p>Charania did not indicate whether the Nets will sign Brown to a 10-day contract or through the rest of the season. After going undrafted in 2018, Brooklyn will mark the journeyman’s seventh NBA team in four seasons.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The 28-year-old struggled to carve out a role in Detroit early this year, playing just 12 games before eventually agreeing to a buyout.</p><p>Noel, the 6th overall pick in the 2013 draft, <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/players/traditional?Season=2020-21&amp;dir=A&amp;sort=BLK">ranked third in the league</a> in blocks for New York in 2020-21 with 2.2 per game. The newest Net offered a quick response when asked what he hopes to bring during his second stint in the big apple with Brooklyn.</p><p>“Energy! Period”</p><p>Noel will look to fill what has been a glaring hole for the Nets this season behind breakout center Nic Claxton. Ben Simmons has struggled to produce as a backup center while battling injuries. The haul they got for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have played extremely well, with guys like <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jacque-vaughn-details-offensive-burden-mikal-bridges-faces" rel="noopener">Mikal Bridges and Spencer Dinwiddie stepping up</a>. Now, the Nets are <a href="https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1632006501287055360" rel="noopener">shoring up</a> one of their key areas by signing free-agent center Nerlens Noel, per Adrian Wojnarowski.</p><p>“Free agent center Nerlens Noel is signing a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, his agent @GeorgeLangberg tells ESPN. After completing buyout with Pistons, Noel joins a Nets team needing some size off the bench.”</p><p>Even before the KD and Kyrie trade, Brooklyn has struggled to compete with some of the taller teams in the league. Part of that is their lack of big men from the bench. Nic Claxton is an excellent player (and arguably a DPOY candidate), but aside from him, the Nets have next to no bodies to throw at opposing big men.</p><p>Nerlens Noel should help with the Nets’ rebounding and defensive woes from the bench. He hasn’t played a ton in the 2022-23 season, but his last season with the Knicks saw him average just under six rebounds in 22 minutes per game. He’s not an offensive dynamo, but his rim running on offense should open up more playmaking opportunities for Dinwiddie and Bridges.</p><p>The Nets are helped greatly by their above-average standings before the KD-Kyrie trade. If the cards are right for them, they are in position to ruin a playoff contender’s championship dreams in April or May. With the Pistons trying to develop young big men Jalen Duren, Isaiah Stewart, Marvin Bagley III, and James Wiseman, it was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-nerlens-noel-pistons-most-likely-traded-deadline" rel="noopener">only a matter of time</a> before they shipped out Noel to a team in need of a veteran presence on the interior.</p><p>However, the Pistons were unable to find a suitable Noel trade prior to the NBA trade deadline. This eventually necessitated <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pistons-nerlens-noel-enters-free-agency-contract-buyout" rel="noopener">an agreement on a buyout</a> between the two parties, with Noel entering free agency being eligible for the postseason.</p><p>It’s unclear if Nerlens Noel still has something left in the tank that, at the very least, makes him worthy of minutes on a team with contending aspirations. Noel has only played in 14 games this season, averaging 10.9 minutes. Nevertheless, his ability to rack up defensive stats – and his defensive track record – still makes him an enticing buy-low option for a team in dire need of frontcourt reinforcement.</p><p>Here are three ideal destinations for the former Pistons center as he looks to find a new home for the stretch run.</p><h2>Golden State Warriors</h2><p>The Warriors’ interest in bolstering their frontcourt is no secret. They <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-warriors-trade-pursuit-of-jakob-poeltl-hits-a-wall" rel="noopener">expressed strong interest</a> in acquiring Jakob Poeltl from the San Antonio Spurs, eventually losing out to the Toronto Raptors in those trade sweepstakes.</p><p>The rationale behind this interest isn’t too difficult to understand. After years of defensive excellence, the Warriors’ defensive rating has fallen off this season. Draymond Green is still a strong defensive presence, but he’s getting up there in age; meanwhile, Andrew Wiggins has missed a lot of time due to injury/personal reasons. As a result, the Warriors have had to rely heavily on Kevon Looney to anchor the paint, with an uninspiring crew backing up the unheralded 27-year old big man.</p><p>To put in even greater perspective how much the Warriors need a solid interior presence, the Warriors <a href="http://www.pbpstats.com/wowy-combos/nba?TeamId=1610612744&amp;Season=2022-23&amp;SeasonType=Regular%2BSeason&amp;PlayerIds=203110,1626172" rel="noopener">have a -8.56 net rating</a> without both Green and Looney on the floor (without Green, the Dubs <a href="http://www.pbpstats.com/wowy-combos/nba?TeamId=1610612744&amp;Season=2022-23&amp;SeasonType=Regular%2BSeason&amp;PlayerIds=203110" rel="noopener">allow a 118.4 defensive rating</a>, which would rank worse than the Houston Rockets’ second-worst defense).</p><p>The losses of Otto Porter Jr., Nemanja Bjelica, and Gary Payton II (who has since returned) have proven to have a huge effect as their departures have resulted in worse players playing a heavier role.</p><p>Thus, Nerlens Noel would give the Warriors (ranked 28th in rejections) a legitimate shot-blocker; while amassing blocks isn’t necessarily a good indication of solid defense, Noel <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-twitter-nerlens-noel-pistons-buyout" rel="noopener">would provide</a> the Warriors with a different kind of player not present in their current roster.</p><h2>Philadelphia 76ers</h2><p>Nerlens Noel was once a huge part of the Sixers’ rebuilding efforts. In fact, he was one of the first fruits of the infamous “process”, drafted sixth overall by Philly during the 2013 NBA Draft. Thus, it’d be interesting if the Sixers decide to pursue a potential reunion with the 29-year old rim protector.</p><p>The Sixers’ backup center crew, to say the least, has been underwhelming. Montrezl Harrell is no longer the Sixth Man of the Year-caliber player he once was, Paul Reed hasn’t quite earned the trust of the coaching staff, and Dewayne Dedmon, who was waived by the Heat, looks cooked.</p><p>There are no guarantees that Nerlens Noel is a better player than those three at the moment, given Noel’s limited game time thus far this season. But at the very least, he provides defensive upside that none of those three possess. The Sixers need only to tread water with Joel Embiid resting on the bench, and Noel, at his best, could give them a chance to do just that.</p><h2>Dallas Mavericks</h2><p>To say that the Mavs’ interior defense has been shambolic would be an understatement. They allowed the Los Angeles Lakers to score 62 points in the paint during their latest matchup; in fact, the Mavs have allowed their opponents to score 60 or more points in the paint over their past five games, a worrying trend for a team that’s had to deal with defensive problems throughout the 2022-23 campaign.</p><p>Head coach Jason Kidd c<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavs-news-jason-kidd-changes-stylistic-tunes-as-luka-doncic-kyrie-irving-fueled-comeback-falls-short" rel="noopener">ould eschew defense</a> as much as he wants. However, the reality is that it’s hard to envision the Mavs, despite the presences of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, going deep into the playoffs without cobbling together a passable interior defense.</p><p>Adding Nerlens Noel may not be a catch-all panacea, but he should give the Mavs a rim protector who’s mobile enough to keep up on the perimeter when he’s at his best.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
