As it’s been a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-norman-powell-reveals-childhood-dream-to-play-for-miami">childhood dream for Powell to play on the Heat</a>, he would also express how underrated of a player he is in the NBA.</p><p>Powell spoke to the media for the first time since the deal and said that with the opportunity in front of him, he could be an All-Star. One could argue he showcased that last season, <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/allstar/NBA_2025_voting.html" rel="noopener">finishing top-10 in All-Star voting</a> in the Western Conference backcourt, breaking out with the Los Angeles Clippers.</p><p>“I’ve not been shy to say that I’m a starter, that I can be an all-star given the opportunity,” Powell said on a Zoom press conference. “And I think, like I said this year, given the free rein and the opportunity that was in front of me, I showcased that, you know, being a top 10 in all-star voting, and people talking about me being a snub and how I should have made the All-Star team. On paper, Miami would get a productive scoring threat, which the team desperately needed, on a contract year for two players who were in and out of the rotation.</p><p>As even Powell described and sees himself as, he’s not only a plug-and-play guard, but will likely be Miami’s first or second option right alongside Tyler Herro in the scoring department.</p><p>“I see myself as a guy that obviously is a plug and play, but I see myself as a key guy, a one, two option that can help carry a team to win,” Powell said. “You know, I’m a basketball player. I know everybody has their own opinions and their own thoughts about what each player’s role should be, or what their limitations and things like that are.”</p><p>“But I never believed that for myself. I always saw myself as a go-to guy that can help carry a team, help a team win,” Powell continued. “And I’ve always been concerned about winning, you know. So I don’t have a big ego of, ‘I have to be the main guy,’ like, I want to win at the end of the day.”</p><p>The Heat hopes Powell can help them improve after finishing 37-45, which put them 10th in the East, though they would make it through the play-in tournament. The 31-year-old would express how excited he is to ClutchPoints about being able to play with the <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1943056717266211022" rel="noopener">“versatile”</a> duo of Herro and Adebayo.</p><p>“I’m really excited,” Powell said. “I was competing against them throughout the years, having the conversations on and off the court with Bam in passing and things like that. You know, I like what they’re building. I like the culture. They compete every single night. You know, no matter who’s healthy, who’s in, out the lineup, they’re putting a full team out there that’s going to compete and fight for wins, they’re scrappy, they’re gritty, they’re competitive, they’re very confident, and that’s what I like.”</p><p>“They’re very versatile, too,” Powell continued. “Bam can play multiple positions, can attack multitude of ways, defensively, can switch, can defend different positions, protect the rim, really athletic. However, the trade has also created <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-clippers/clippers-news-norman-powell-message-to-la-after-heat-trade">a vacancy in the Clippers’ backcourt.</a></p><p>Bradley Beal, who has been linked to an exit from the Phoenix Suns all offseason, is reportedly edging closer to finalizing a buyout. They waived forward Jordan Miller despite having the means to keep him, a move understood to be <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-clippers/clippers-news-la-makes-key-roster-decision-amid-bradley-beal-chris-paul-rumors">a precursor to a potential Beal acquisition</a>.</p><p>The three-time All-Star is understood to be considering the Clippers along with the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Golden State Warriors. Although Beal is coming off a difficult season that was hampered by injuries, he still produced <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bealbr01.html" rel="noopener">17 points per game</a> while playing alongside primary ball handlers in Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, per Basketball Reference.</p><p>That is something which will also be true alongside Kawhi Leonard and James Harden at the Clippers as well. Beal can also provide backup as a playmaker while emerging as a legitimate scoring threat that immediately replaces Powell’s output.</p><p>The Clippers’ situation also aligns perfectly with that of the player. Beal’s remaining salary for the upcoming season will probably be stretched over five years, and he is expected to sign a short-term deal which will allow him to test waters once again in the coming time.</p><p>While Beal remains a priority, the situation also depends on whether the player is able to actually agree a buyout with the Suns. In case the agreement never materializes, the Clippers still have alternatives and have been linked to Chris Paul in free agency.</p><p>Paul is another veteran available on a minimum contract, and the Clippers have the advantage as the player is understood to be prioritizing a move closer to home in LA, where his family resides. Both players bring their own strengths and would immediately provide the profile the Clippers’ roster is begging for. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-news-clippers-jazz-heat-pull-off-3-team-trade-norman-powell-john-collins">Heat acquired fringe All-Star-caliber player Norman Powell</a> in a three-team trade involving the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Clippers and needed to give up just Kyle Anderson, Kevin Love, and a second-round pick.</p><p>For that price, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-trade-grade-for-norman-powell-deal-with-clippers-jazz">getting Powell was a no-brainer</a>. For all the flak the Heat front office has caught for their hardball way of conducting business in trades, this was a steal even if Powell didn’t play his best basketball for the Clippers in their first-round series exit against the Denver Nuggets.</p><p>Nonetheless, even with Powell joining Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo, and Andrew Wiggins, it’s not likely for the Heat to be anything more than a middle-seeded playoff team even though they reside in the wide-open Eastern Conference. There are some moves the Heat have to make still, and they at least appear to have the assets to swing this deal if need be.</p><p>Here is the next trade the Heat must make after acquiring Powell.</p><h2><b>Heat trade Terry Rozier for prime bounce-back candidate Marcus Smart</b></h2><p><b>Heat acquire: Marcus Smart</b></p><p><b>Wizards acquire: Terry Rozier</b></p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Wizards-Marcus-Smart.jpg"><figcaption>© Daniel Kucin Jr.-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>At this point, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-reveals-why-he-totally-benched-terry-rozier-vs-hawks">Terry Rozier is just hogging up some valuable space</a> on the Heat’s cap sheet. When he was acquired in early 2024 in a trade that saw the Heat gave up a lottery-protected 2028 first-round pick for him, he was a flamethrower for the Charlotte Hornets who was averaging over 23 points per game. Since then, Rozier has been on the decline, and suffice to say, he hasn’t met expectations at all in South Beach.</p><p>In fact, Rozier was investigated for his potential involvement in a betting scandal, and though <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-terry-rozier-cleared-wrongdoing-betting-scandal">he was cleared</a>, it’s been rather apparent that his head isn’t in the right space and he’s not long for the Heat organization. During the 2024-25 campaign, Rozier was dismal, averaging just 10.6 points on 39.1 percent shooting from the field and amid a season of flux with the Jimmy Butler situation and all, it was shocking for Rozier to end up being a complete shell of his former self.</p><p>A change of scenery might be the move for Rozier, as even his first half season in Miami did not yield the results he had when he was playing in Charlotte. Sometimes, it simply does not work out for a player in a particular context, and there has been more than enough evidence that Rozier isn’t the best fit with the Heat.</p><p>At the very least, Rozier’s contract is <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nba/player/_/id/17844/terry-rozier" rel="noopener">expiring at the end</a> of the 2025-26 campaign, so it’s not like the Heat will be stuck with a potential albatross on their books for the long-term. But with the Heat always looking to remain semi-competitive, it should be in the best interest for them to find a way to improve the roster using the $26.6 million remaining on his deal.</p><p>Rozier has negative trade value, but with the Heat not having too many draft assets at their disposal, it’s unlikely for them to swing a trade for an impact player. They will have to part ways with perhaps their 2026 or 2030 first-rounder to do so. And the Heat might not want to be that aggressive considering they’re not among the teams with a legitimate chance to win it all come next year.</p><p>Trading Rozier for another depressed asset might be the way. And with that, why not approach the Washington Wizards on a potential one on one swap for Marcus Smart, who’s in the <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nba/player/_/id/15358/marcus-smart" rel="noopener">final year</a> of his contract making $21.6 million.</p><p>Smart has endured a difficult past two seasons, playing in just 54 games combined during that span. But when healthy, he’s shown flashes of being the lockdown 3-and-D guard he’s been throughout his career. Alas, it’s possible that Smart is never healthy again and that he hangs it up within the next year or so considering how badly the past two seasons have gone for him on the injury front.</p><p>Smart seems to pick up little knocks here and there, which have added up and contributed to him not being his best self even if he’s just 31 years of age. But perhaps he finds himself rejuvenated with the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-pat-riley-talk-about-heat-culture-makes-people-throw-up">Heat’s training regimen</a>, and if Miami manages to nurse him back to full health, he’d be a valuable backcourt piece, giving the Heat a lockdown defensive backcourt duo with him and Davion Mitchell.</p><p>Giving up a second-round pick to buy low on Smart isn’t too high of a price to pay, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/washington-wizards/wizards-rumors-marcus-smart-trade-market-details-surface">Smart has more impact upside</a> than Rozier does, making it worth the risk to get ahead of the competition with many teams looking to take a chance on the former Defensive Player of the Year should he hit the buyout market.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Even if he’s not shooting the ball well, he can disrupt defensively. While there are other <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/nba-rumors-how-heats-norman-powell-trade-hurts-bradley-beal-chances">rumors about the Heat in the aftermath of the trade for Powell</a>, let’s take a look at how the deal impacts Miami.</p><p>The trade would first be reported by Shams Charania of ESPN, saying that Powell is on his way to Miami where it looks like the only pieces that the team gave up are Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson, who both are heading to the Jazz. Charania calls Powell a <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1942228697635012714" rel="noopener">“major scoring punch,”</a> who did have a career year with Los Angeles last season.</p><p>“BREAKING: The Clippers, Jazz, and Heat have agreed to a trade that sends Norman Powell to Miami, John Collins to Los Angeles, and Kevin Love, Kyle Anderson, and a 2027 Clippers second-round pick to the Jazz, sources tell ESPN,” Charania wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday morning.</p><p>“Miami is acquiring a major scoring punch in Powell while the Clippers find a dynamic lob threat,” Charania continued. “Both Powell and Collins are coming off strong seasons.”</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Miami is acquiring a major scoring punch in Powell while the Clippers find a dynamic lob threat. Love had been in Miami the past two seasons and has been productive in providing the team with elite veteran experience and production as a backup big.</p><p>His playing time would dwindle last season, and he is in the twilight years of his career at 36 years old, though he can still add to any team and no doubt will be missed in the Heat’s locker room. As for Anderson, he came to Miami as part of the Jimmy Butler trade from the Golden State Warriors and had his moments with the team.</p><p>Pat Riley and the Heat front office dealt Love and Anderson in simple terms for Powell and one can’t help but feel that it’s a savvy and exceptional move from the team. He gives the team much-needed scoring as the Heat fell in the bottom 10 of the league in offensive rating for the third straight season, a trend that needed to be addressed.</p></figure><h2><b>Heat’s financial situation with the Norman Powell trade </b></h2><p>While the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-detroit-agrees-to-48-million-duncan-robinson-sign-and-trade-with-heat">Heat have been somewhat active like trading Duncan Robinson</a> to the Detroit Pistons and are even in continuous rumors connecting to Andrew Wiggins, Powell does give some clarity to their financial situation. Besides the production on the court, Miami probably liked the idea of getting a player in Powell who is on an expiring contract as per Spotrac, he’s owed close to $20.5 million next season and will be an unrestricted free agent after.</p><p>The team is now hard-capped at the first apron, which won’t change for the entirety of the season and is also in luxury tax territory, which the Heat don’t want to be. With them now having an open roster spot, likely, they aren’t done making moves, as while they can’t change being hard-capped, the team can get out of the luxury tax in shedding salary.</p><p>Going back to Wiggins, with his cap hit over $28 million, the team could still be actively trying to move him in a possible two-for-one trade, not receiving back more money. However, if there were fans who wanted the team to get Bradley Beal after a likely buyout from the Phoenix Suns, the trade for Powell likely takes them out with the financial limitations and being <a href="https://x.com/BrettSiegelNBA/status/1942230633780047881" rel="noopener">“unable to use their full MLE (mid-level exception).”</a></p><p>“By making this trade, the Heat have limited themselves financially since they are now hard-capped at the first apron,” Siegel wrote on X. “This means the Heat are unable to use their full MLE, thus making a path to Bradley Beal tough without trading other players. Miami is likely out on Beal.”</p><h2><b>Does the Norman Powell trade stop the Heat from pursuing others?</b></h2><p>With the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-rumors-miami-linked-to-damian-lillard-after-shocking-bucks-release">Heat having reported interest in Lillard,</a> the same deal is likely the case as it was with Beal, though the team can still create more space and have full use of the MLE. The way to do that is to dump salaries like Wiggins, as mentioned before, and also Terry Rozier, who could be hard to move as he comes off a very frustrating year and is owed over $26.5 million next season.</p><p>Still, as hinted before, it seems likely that this is one of the first steps for the front office in regards to compiling their roster, while also not wanting to be in the luxury tax. With one roster spot not filled, <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article310135885.html" rel="noopener">another trade would need</a> to be in order if they want to still go after someone like Lillard or Beal, as also said by The Miami Herald’s Anthony Chiang.</p><p>“That doesn’t give the Heat much money to add a 15th player, as it currently can only use a portion of its mid-level exception up to about $4.2 million or a minimum contract to add an outside free agent like three-time All-Star guard Bradley Beal and/or nine-time All-Star guard Damian Lillard,” Chiang wrote. “Of course, another trade could further change the Heat’s salary-cap math.”</p><h2><b>Final grade on the Heat’s trade for Norman Powell</b></h2><p>While the <a href="https://x.com/BobbyMarks42/status/1942232243553865995" rel="noopener">financial situation is still fluid</a>, the move for Powell is a home run acquisition in regards to the player Miami got in Powell and the pieces they gave up, which were Love and Anderson. Be sure to follow him on Twitter @BrettSiegelNBA.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Los Angeles Clippers</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Los Angeles Clippers are replacing Norman Powell with John Collins in a three-team trade <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1942226949453103199" rel="noopener">involving</a> the Utah Jazz and Miami Heat, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.</p><p>Collins will be joining Ivica Zubac in the Clippers’ frontcourt, while Powell heads to the Eastern Conference and will join the Heat in the final year of his contract. Although he had a career year in Los Angeles, the team had been aggressively seeking frontcourt help next to Zubac and to alleviate pressure off All-Star Kawhi Leonard, who is constantly battling injuries.</p><p>Before the 2025 NBA Draft, the Clippers and Jazz were discussing a trade that involved both Collins and Powell, league sources told ClutchPoints. Utah was attempting to find another team to take on the final year of Powell’s contract, but discussions faded.</p><p>The two sides remained in conversation with one another, and Miami emerged as a landing spot for Powell in recent days.</p><p>As a result, a decision to trade Powell was made, and the Clippers added Collins, a player they have long coveted at the power forward position.</p><p>Powell registered his best season in the NBA this past year with the Clippers, averaging 21.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 48.4 percent from the floor and 41.8 percent from 3-point range. He will immediately supply the Heat with much-needed perimeter scoring help next to Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo in the final year of his contract.</p><h2><b>Clippers’ next steps after adding John Collins</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Clippers-Norman-Powell-guarding-Jazzs-John-Collins.jpg"><figcaption>Christopher Creveling-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While the Heat had previously been linked to former All-Star Bradley Beal as a potential buyout option, that no longer appears to be the likeliest of possibilities given their financial situation. By trading Love and Anderson to the Jazz, Miami is now hard-capped at the first tax apron and has little room to operate.</p><p>Pat Riley and his team are no longer able to utilize their full mid-level exception without sacrificing other talents on the trade market, which likely takes them out of the running for Beal. ClutchPoints reported late Sunday evening that Beal and the Suns were <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/phoenix-suns/suns-news-bradley-beal-negotiating-buyout-heat-lakers-suitors">progressing on a buyout</a>, with the Heat named as his top suitor.</p><p>The Clippers were another team listed as a suitor for Beal, and their odds of landing him upon being bought out by Phoenix have grown. It is a very real possibility that Steve Ballmer and Lawrence Frank add not just Beal, but future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul, who recently <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-news-chris-paul-hints-final-season-amid-clippers-suns-bucks-rumors">hinted at the 2025-26 season being his last</a>.</p><p>This trade with the Heat and Jazz gives the Clippers another chance to contend at the highest level possible with athleticism and skill at every position before hitting 2026 free agency hard for another max-level player. Collins is a really solid player coming off a great season in Salt Lake City, and he should be able to contribute immediately in a pick-and-roll-heavy offense led by James Harden.</p><p>Over the last two seasons in Utah, the 27-year-old athletic forward averaged 16.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game while shooting 53.0 percent from the floor and 38.2 percent from 3-point range. He will immediately slide into a starting role next to Zubac in the frontcourt.</p><p>Other teams had been rumored to be pursuing Collins, who held a small trade market this offseason. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/sources-lakers-jazz-rui-hachimura-john-collins-trade">The Los Angeles Lakers held exploratory conversations with the Jazz</a> in which Collins’ name came up, and the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/siegels-scoop-warriors-jonathan-kuminga-free-agency-holdup-trade-market-intel">Detroit Pistons were also rumored</a> to have a level of interest in him. No trades ever materialized between the two teams and the Jazz.</p><p>As part of this three-team trade, the Clippers are now about $7 million below the first tax apron and can still utilize about $5 million from their mid-level exception for a player like Beal on the free-agent market. Since they took on salary, the Jazz created a $26.6 million traded player exception for themselves that can be utilized down the line.</p><p>The Jazz have been busy this offseason. In addition to trading Collins to Los Angeles and waiving veteran guard Jordan Clarkson, Utah also dealt Collin Sexton to the Charlotte Hornets for veteran center Jusuf Nurkic. Love and Anderson are the latest additions to Salt Lake City, as both players won’t be there long.</p><p>While Anderson could be flipped for future value at the trade deadline, Love appears to be a likely buyout candidate for the Jazz before the 2025-26 season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Fans believed that the fact that he didn’t tell anyone robbed other deserving players of making an appearance. Powell was at the top of the list after the first half of the season.</p><p>James, Powell, and Love have one thing in common; all three of them were eliminated early. The Lakers fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Powell was sent home by the Denver Nuggets, and Love was swept by the Miami Heat.</p><p>LeBron James replied to Love’s comment, saying that his wife Savannah would replace him at the Met Gala. It is unclear how severe the Lakers forward’s injury is, but he couldn’t make it to the event.
