Not to mention, he had seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals, having an impact in the impressive victory for the team.</p><p>Despite the statsheet, Powell was in sync with his new teammates throughout the game, with him saying to ClutchPoints that he’s felt “comfortable since day one” <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1982632017767629043" rel="noopener">since he is “super low maintenance.”</a> He would also cite being a “student of the game.”</p><p>“I work really hard on my game, and I feel like, honestly, what makes the transition so easy with any of my my traits and new teams and things like that, is just, I’ve been in every single role, so being prepared and knowing and I’m a student of the game, I watch, I study,” Powell said.</p><p>“Watch opposing teams. Head coach Erik Spoelstra <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1982629190597050809" rel="noopener">pointed out how “crafty”</a> Powell is, even mentioning his ability to draw fouls.</p><p>“He’s a crafty, veteran, skilled offensive talent,” Spoelstra said. “And that is a very good defensive team. So if you’re just trying to run normal actions, they’ve got great wing defenders, they blow up screens, they prevent you from coming off screens. So he just finds a way to get in a bunch of random situations. And I just think that’s, those are the hardest guys to scout and scheme for.”</p><p>“He had some in transition, he had some on broken plays, he had some where he just would create something out of nothing,” Powell continued. “And that’s a credit to his skill level. I know that he really spent a lot of time working on his skill and being able to manage, you know, great defenders and great defenses. One of the bright spots in the loss was seeing the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/exclusive-norman-powell-reveals-comfort-level-ahead-of-next-weeks-heat-opener">comfort level of Heat newcomer Norman Powell</a>, as head coach Erik Spoelstra spoke more about his debut.</p><p>After being traded to Miami from the Los Angeles Clippers, Powell was sure to be an offensive gutpunch that the team needed, but after the news of Tyler Herro missing the start of the season, his assistance was drastically needed. He showed it and more in his team debut on Wednesday night, scoring 28 points on nine of 19 shooting from the field, four of eight from deep, to go along with nine rebounds and four assists.</p><p>Spoelstra would describe Powell’s outing as <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPvap8l2OwU" rel="noopener">“explosive”</a> as the 31-year-old had nine of the team’s first 15 points of the contest.</p><p>“Very good. He’s explosive, you just really like the way he’s on the move,” Spoelstra said, via Miami’s YouTube page. “He’s a moving target. It’s tough to get a body on him. He can drive; he obviously can shoot from three. He just does it in a lot of different ways.”</p><p>“But. After the standout performance, Powell explained how he fits with Miami right from the jump.</p><p>“I think just the experience and playing in different roles,” Powell said. “I mean, with a group of guys whose mentality and focus is about winning and playing off one another, I think we’ve done a great job with that. And then just the style of the offense fits my game. I’m a plug-and-play guy. I can play on the ball, off the ball, whatever is needed. And, you know, and coach Spo did a great job, I think, first play the game, me coming off a pin down.”</p><p>“I’m really tough to guard coming out of those corners with pin downs and quicks and things like that,” Powell continued. “So taking advantage of those plays is key for my catch and shoot ability and being able to get downhill. Powell has already shown his offensive prowess in the preseason, and even in the annual “Red, White, and Pink” scrimmage, where he scored 46 points, though it wasn’t a highly physical affair.</p><p>The game brings awareness and celebrates the survivors of Breast Cancer, which has an impact on Powell’s life as he mentioned.</p><p>“I mean, it was fun. I mean, it was for a great cause, great awareness,” Powell said about the public scrimmage. “It’s my first time being a part of it, but I had a lot of fun. I’m directly affected by breast cancer. My girlfriend’s mom is a two-time breast cancer survivor. I spoke about that yesterday, but it’s a lot of fun for me. I’m telling the guys that, we might not be going 100% playing defense, set calls, and everything like that, but let’s get something out of it.”</p><p>“Let’s at least get some cardio,” Powell continued. “Get up and down the floor, play with some pace so we’re still building good habits. So it’s all about building blocks, getting my body, my mind ready for the long haul,” Powell said. “But I’m really excited. You know? I know we haven’t won a game in preseason.”</p><p>“People are saying whatever they want, but like I said, it’s preseason, we’re trying new things, offensively, defensively, building our identity. So when it’s go time, we know who we are. We know the style of the brand of basketball we’re going to play. As the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-norman-powell-makes-all-star-declaration-after-clippers-trade">Heat traded for Norman Powell during the offseason</a>, he will no doubt be called upon to lead the way alongside Bam Adebayo as the newcomer spoke about the opportunity and how it compares to a similar situation in his past.</p><p>Coming from the Los Angeles Clippers, Powell had his best year last season, which was helped by a strong start to the season when Kawhi Leonard missed a significant amount of time. The franchise lost Norman Powell, but was able to add Bradley Beal, John Collins, Brook Lopez, and Chris Paul to the team.</p><p>With the NBA’s schedule release on Thursday afternoon, the Clippers will have some big return games on the docket.</p><h2><b>Clippers’ Bradley Beal, Norman Powell, Brook Lopez return game dates announced</b></h2><p>Bradley Beal played two seasons with the Phoenix Suns, but struggled to develop any kind of chemistry or consistency with Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and his teammates in the Valley. The teams were never well-constructed, which led to a number of disappointing games for everyone involved.</p><p>But Suns fans won’t have to wait long to boo their former player.</p><p>Bradley Beal and the LA Clippers will head to Phoenix to take on the Suns on Thursday, November 6, 2025. It will be one of four matchups for the division rivals.</p><p>Norman Powell had a career year with the Clippers in the 2024-25 season, nearly earning an All-Star selection. This past offseason, however, the Clippers targeted size as a need for the roster. Powell was traded to the Miami Heat in a three-team deal that also sent John Collins to the Clippers.</p><p>The Clippers and Heat won’t have to wait long to get that game out of the way either.</p><p>Norman Powell and the Miami Heat will come to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers on Monday, November 3, 2025. The floor-spacing center elected to leave the Milwaukee Bucks in free agency after seven seasons and an NBA Championship.</p><p>The Bucks, however, will have quite a while to prepare their tribute video for the guy nicknamed, “Splash Mountain,” due to his three-point shooting prowess.</p><p>Brook Lopez will make his return to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks as a member of the LA Clippers on Sunday, March 29, 2026. That will be about two weeks before the NBA’s regular season is expected to end.</p><p>Chris Paul was the final player to sign a standard contract with the Clippers this summer, capping off what was an incredible summer for the franchise.</p><p>Paul only played one season with the San Antonio Spurs, but if you ask guys like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Victor Wembanyama, and Stephon Castle, one season can be incredibly impactful on one’s career.</p><p>For the second time as a Los Angeles Clippers guard, Chris Paul will return to San Antonio for the first time to take on the Spurs on March 6, 2026.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Specifically at Florida Atlantic University, where Miami has held training camp before, Powell would express how being in South Florida under this situation has been getting him <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article311573872.html" rel="noopener">“acclimated,”</a> according to The Miami Herald.</p><p>“It’s getting me acclimated,” Powell said. “It has been amazing to be welcomed here. Not only with the Jamaican national team, and that side of my culture that I’m embracing and learning about. But being here in South Florida, checking into the hotel, people already know who I am and welcome me and are excited about me being on the Heat.”</p><p>“It’s been amazing,” Powell continued. “I’ve always looked at my life as full-circle moments. Things that have been talked about and signs, and things that you don’t really notice. But then it comes full circle. I was expecting training camp to be in Jamaica, but then I learned that it was in Boca. Speaking after a recent practice with the Jamaican national team, he would also express how eager he is to start a new era in his basketball career.</p><p>“Honestly, I’m super excited about it,” Powell said. “It’s always a shock when you get traded, especially coming off the year that I had, and talking to the front office, and it’s all about extensions and things like that. And then you get a little rumbling that it’s a possibility, but not really. And then you get traded. So the shock is always there.”</p><p>“But the Heat, they’ve welcomed me with open arms,” Powell continued. “They’ve talked about how much they’ve wanted me and liked my game throughout the year, and they’ve tried to get me. So to come to a place that values you and wants you here and understands what you bring to the table and wants you to be you, you can’t be upset or mad about that at all.”</p><p>Last season, Powell averaged 21.8 points per game on shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 41.8 percent from deep.</p><p>Powell is hoping to help Miami improve this upcoming season, as they were 37-45, which put them 10th in the Eastern Conference. Adebayo said last Saturday that the move for Powell is a <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article311547377.html" rel="noopener">“very good shake-up”</a> for Miami, according to The Miami Herald.</p><p>“It’s a very good shake-up for our team, and now there’s a different dynamic to it,” Adebayo said.</p><p>Adebayo was the one who put out the message after the season ended at the hands of a Cleveland Cavaliers sweep that changes were coming to the organization. The deal for Powell displayed that, with Adebayo no doubt being a fan of the move, saying that they added an “All-Star caliber player.”</p><p>“I feel like Norman is one of those guys that floats under the radar,” Adebayo said. “But as you saw this year, he’s really shown that he can be an All-Star caliber player. You’ve seen what he’s done, and you’ve seen him grow in this league. And, obviously, he wants to take the next challenge. Obviously, the next challenge is being with the Miami Heat. However, there were some decisions to be made in who gets traded from Miami’s side, plus some other departures featuring a familiar place.</p><p>In the Powell trade, the Heat would deal Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson (who came from the Jimmy Butler trade), and aside from that, long-time Miami sharpshooter Duncan Robinson would go to the Detroit Pistons in a sign-and-trade. Adebayo had been teammates with Robinson since the 2018-19 season and also had developed a close relationship with Love, as the star showed love to the two.</p><p>“I’m going to miss them, obviously,” Adebayo said. “Just because Duncan has been here for eight years, and having that connection was special. And then K-Love was a leader that could speak to somebody from a championship level, could obviously encourage the younger group, be an example, but also he was the bridge between some of the coaches and the players. So like I said, I’m going to miss both of them. I’m glad we had the time that we did. ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reported that it would be a two-year, $11 million deal for Beal to take his talents to the City of Angels, marking the third team he will have played for in his career.</p><p>The free agency signing fills up a void at shooting guard for the Clippers that was opened up once Norman Powell departed for the Miami Heat as part of a three team trade.</p><p>Some Clippers fans feel as though the former All-Star Beal will be able to replace if not improve upon what Powell was able to provide for the team, but <a href="https://x.com/zachkram/status/1945567417070960856" rel="noopener">not everyone is</a> so sure about that.</p><p>Recently, Zach Kram of ESPN took to X, formerly Twitter, to display a chart of the career DARKO DPM for both Beal and Powell, with Powell’s portion of the graph significantly outpacing Beal’s last season.</p><p>DARKO DPM is a statistical model that uses both box score and plus-minus data to more accurately measure a player’s overall impact.</p><p>“I don’t understand the sentiment I’ve seen on here that Bradley Beal is an upgrade over Norm Powell at this stage of their careers,” wrote Kram on X.</p><h2><b>Did the Clippers upgrade?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Ex-Phoenix-Suns-guard-Bradley-Beal.jpg"><figcaption>Soobum Im-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>It’s important to note that the Clippers didn’t simply replace Powell with Beal as a one-for-one exchange. As it’s been a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-norman-powell-reveals-childhood-dream-to-play-for-miami">childhood dream for Powell to play on the Heat</a>, he would also express how underrated of a player he is in the NBA.</p><p>Powell spoke to the media for the first time since the deal and said that with the opportunity in front of him, he could be an All-Star. One could argue he showcased that last season, <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/allstar/NBA_2025_voting.html" rel="noopener">finishing top-10 in All-Star voting</a> in the Western Conference backcourt, breaking out with the Los Angeles Clippers.</p><p>“I’ve not been shy to say that I’m a starter, that I can be an all-star given the opportunity,” Powell said on a Zoom press conference. “And I think, like I said this year, given the free rein and the opportunity that was in front of me, I showcased that, you know, being a top 10 in all-star voting, and people talking about me being a snub and how I should have made the All-Star team. That’s how I see myself in the positions of Dwayne Wade, Kobe, my favorite players, like that’s why I saw myself growing up, and that’s what I believe myself to be.”</p><p>The 32-year-old took advantage of the injury to Kawhi Leonard to start last season and picked up a lot of the weight, and still finished the season averaging 21.8 points per game on shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 41.8 percent from deep.</p><h2><b>Norman Powell sees himself as a “key” player for the Heat</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Norman-Powell-24-takes-a-free-throw-against-the-Utah-Jazz.jpg"><figcaption>© Christopher Creveling-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>To get Powell, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-channing-frye-reveals-appreciate-miami-kevin-love-trade">the Heat would trade Kevin Love</a> and Kyle Anderson, who both ended up going to the Utah Jazz in what ended up being a three-team deal. On paper, Miami would get a productive scoring threat, which the team desperately needed, on a contract year for two players who were in and out of the rotation.</p><p>As even Powell described and sees himself as, he’s not only a plug-and-play guard, but will likely be Miami’s first or second option right alongside Tyler Herro in the scoring department.</p><p>“I see myself as a guy that obviously is a plug and play, but I see myself as a key guy, a one, two option that can help carry a team to win,” Powell said. “You know, I’m a basketball player. I know everybody has their own opinions and their own thoughts about what each player’s role should be, or what their limitations and things like that are.”</p><p>“But I never believed that for myself. I always saw myself as a go-to guy that can help carry a team, help a team win,” Powell continued. “And I’ve always been concerned about winning, you know. So I don’t have a big ego of, ‘I have to be the main guy,’ like, I want to win at the end of the day.”</p><p>The Heat hopes Powell can help them improve after finishing 37-45, which put them 10th in the East, though they would make it through the play-in tournament. The talks of an extension with the Clippers were on the table, but he would get the call he was moving, and when figuring out it was to Miami, there was excitement, citing it as a “childhood dream.”</p><p>“When I got the call and said I was traded, obviously it’s a shock, because you’re not expecting it,” Powell said. “You just had a career year, and you know, you’d like to believe that you’re going to think you’re going to have some extension talks and things when you’re back, but hearing that it was Miami, I was really excited, like you said, I’ve had a couple guys that I’ve played with play for the team, the organization.”</p><p>“They’ve said amazing things about the city, the fans, the organization, and then just thinking back to like my childhood and being <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1943047788121723286" rel="noopener">a big fan of Dwyane Wade</a> and watching the heat growing up and wanting to play for the Heat organization as one of the teams, is a childhood dream that you want to play for. Like Powell mentioned, he is coming off a career year where he averaged 21.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game on 48.4 percent shooting from the field and 41.8 percent from deep.</p><p>One person <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DL0k5wIRyIu/" rel="noopener">who showed their excitement</a> for the move was Wade on social media, which was no doubt a special moment for Powell, who got the chance to speak with him when in Europe for the “Sport Beach” event in Cannes, France.</p><p>“Taking moves and different things from [Wade] and implementing it into my game and talking to him and seeing how he watches my game and knows my game and is proud of me and what I’ve been able to accomplish and that he was a motivating factor in my basketball career,” Powell said. “Literally two weeks later, to be traded to the Heat, and seeing him comment under the post, and was excited about it.”</p><p>Powell looks to be a great fit for Miami, which is looking to improve after finishing 37-45, putting them 10th in the East, as they were eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
