While the general consensus is that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/1-move-new-york-knicks-shouldve-made-2025-nba-offseason">Knicks are still a piece away</a> from legitimate title contention, the front office has done an impressive job of turning the team from laughingstock to playoff contender in a short amount of time.</p><p>One of the key trade acquisitions for New York over the last couple of years was OG Anunoby, who was brought in from the Toronto Raptors and has been a key part of giving the Knicks a respectable defense despite the team’s best two players–Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns–being weak points on that end.</p><p>Recently, Ronnie 2k revealed that Anunoby confronted him about his rating of 87 in the newest iteration of the game.</p><p>“Last night, after dinner at the Wynn, OG comes up to me and talks my ear off for a half an hour… he was going in on ‘I’m an 87. I should be at least a 92.’ I’m like wow, OK. But he had real thoughts, real feelings, real things to back up,” said Ronnie, per the Big Podcast with Shaq. “His argument was that we skew offensively more than defensively. I actually don’t agree with that. I think we balance it really well.”</p><p>Anunoby has long been known as one of the elite wing perimeter defenders in the league and has added immensely to his offensive game over the years, becoming a key cog for a Knicks team that recently put together its most successful season in a quarter of a century.</p><p>However, ratings of 92 are usually reserved for players considered to be stars or at least star-adjacent, a category that Anunoby doesn’t necessarily fall into.</p><p>Still, with a team led by Brunson and Towns, there’s no understating how important Anunoby is in helping the Knicks secure stops and knock down open three pointers on the other end, in addition to creating his own offense from time to time.</p><p>The Knicks’ schedule is slated to be released later this month.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

They won the first two rounds, beating the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics in six games each. As a result, they made the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000, which presented an opportunity for them to reach their first NBA Finals since 1999.</p><p>Unfortunately, they came up short. They fell to the Indiana Pacers in six games as they will have to wait another year to regroup and continue their pursuit of making the NBA Finals.</p><p>Days after the season-ending loss in Game 6, Anunoby <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DKay41CxKsJ/" rel="noopener">made a social media post</a> on Instagram. It is possible that if he was healthy, the team may have reached the East Finals in 2023 instead of losing to the Pacers in seven games.</p><p>Although this year ended with another series loss to the Pacers, Anunoby proved he will remain important in New York’s plans moving forward. This season saw him average 18 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game after 74 appearances. In the playoffs, he produced 16.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, two steals, 1.3 assists, and 1.2 blocks per contest after 18 matchups.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/3-early-new-york-knicks-trade-targets-2025-nba-offseason">Knicks had their most successful season since 2000</a>, and Anunoby played a major role in that. Indiana has a 3-2 series lead, meaning they need one more win to secure the series and a trip to the NBA Finals. On the other hand, New York must win to extend it to Game 7, which will take place on the homecourt at Madison Square Garden.</p><p>The score remained close as the first half winded down. While New York has gained back some momentum by taking two of the last three games, they remain at risk of elimination.</p><p>New York has had an excellent playoff run, taking down a young but feisty Detroit Pistons squad in six games. After that, they stunned the Boston Celtics in six games, who were the defending NBA champions. The squad returned to the East Finals for the first time since 2000, but they have their eyes set on the NBA Finals, a place they haven’t returned to since 1999.
