It also helps that they added some draft capital in the process.</p><p>Spellman is a 6-foot-8 power forward who likes to play in transition and rebound. He is also versatile enough to play center on some teams. Off the bench, the 23-year-old should be able to provide an offensive spark to the Knicks’ second unit.</p><p>Last season with the Warriors, Spellman <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/spellom01.html" rel="noopener noreferrer">averaged</a> 7.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, all while shooting almost 43.1 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from deep.</p><p>Jacob Evans, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, should add athleticism and defense to the Knicks’ second unit as well.</p><p>Meanwhile, Minnesota is Davis’ third team in two days, as he was just recently <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-trade-news-jazz-trade-big-man-ed-davis-to-knicks/" rel="noopener noreferrer">traded</a> to the Knicks from the Utah Jazz. The Minnesota Timberwolves add depth and athleticism to their second unit while shedding salary in the process.</p><p>This is a minor deal for both teams, but both get exactly what they want.</p><p>New York’s frontcourt is looking solid as ever. Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson, Obi Toppin and Omari Spellman make them one of the youngest, deepest and most athletic frontcourts in the Eastern Conference.</p><p>The Timberwolves, meanwhile, receive a veteran presence and energy guy on their bench unit.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Unfortunately, Orlando just recently lost its second straight outing against the Warriors, 109-95. Fultz, however, did put in another solid outing for the Magic with 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting, to go along with six rebounds, four assists, and one steal in 34 minutes.</p><p>The Markelle Fultz redemption campaign is in full swing. It’s great to finally see the former first overall pick healthy and giving us incredible highlights like the poster dunk he had over Spellman.</p><p>This is just one of the myriad of reasons why Fultz became the top prospect of his class in 2017. Unfortunately, a shoulder injury that gave him a weird hitch on his shot derailed the first couple of years of his career. This forced the Philadelphia 76ers to just give up on their 2017 first overall pick by dealing him last season to the Orlando Magic for a player that’s not even on an NBA roster this season (Jonathon Simmons) and a couple of draft picks.</p><p>Now, finally healthy, Fultz <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/markelle-fultz-finally-looked-like-a-no-1-pick-against-the-lakers/">is proving his naysayers wrong</a>. An offseason trade to the Golden State Warriors gave him the chance for a fresh start after seeing his time with the Atlanta Hawks had already passed.</p><p>The 6-foot-8 Spellman was as heavy as 310 pounds at one point last season but slimmed all the way down to his playing weight of 245 pounds. A chance he likely wouldn’t have gotten in Atlanta.</p><blockquote>“Because I know my chance in Atlanta had already come and gone,” Spellman told <a href="https://theathletic.com/1422941/2019/12/02/warriors-omari-spellman-back-in-atlanta-doesnt-blame-the-hawks-for-his-destructive-rookie-season/?source=shared-article" rel="noopener noreferrer">Anthony Slater of The Athletic</a>. “Sometimes when you’re stuck in an organization where your chance is already passed, that’s like some of the hardest sh*t ever.<br>As crazy as it sounds, I’m blessed to have been traded. Because what was about to happen in Atlanta, some people don’t come back from that. My life could’ve taken a completely different turn. I could’ve been in Atlanta, not playing, feeling all these down things and my life could’ve taken a complete f***ing nosedive.”</blockquote><p>Teams hardly ever give up on a first-round pick after one season, but Spelly knew he was on his way out, as weight issues often suggest a lack of discipline for the player in question. Spellman’s issues getting right were impacting his confidence, greatly — and he had to remind himself that he was worth another shot.</p><blockquote>“I had to remind myself, give myself a constant reminder that, nah, bro, you are tough,” said Spellman. “You do do tough sh*t. You’ve been tough since you were young. Just go be yourself.<br>That sh*t was a hard realization. People don’t realize that. When you’re in a low place, the fight to get back up is not easy. To mentally change my perception of myself. You start to see yourself the way people tell you that you are.So I was like: ‘I’m a slob. I’m f***ing fat. I’m f***ing useless in the league.’ Then you have to consciously decide that I’m going to shift that mentality. I’m none of those things. I work hard. I play hard. I leave it all out there. I’m a great teammate. You have to view yourself like that. It’s not a cocky thing. That’s who you are.”</blockquote><p>Spellman has already crossed to the 300-pound realm once, but he was given a quick and swift ultimatum by president Bob Myers before he signed up to play with the Warriors during a meeting.</p><blockquote>“He literally told me: ‘Yo, bro, you have to be under 280 (pounds) or you’re not going to play.’<br>And, like … I was like, man, this is how far you fell. That’s how far you’ve fallen. Like, 280 is the caveat. You have to be 280. Bro, that’s heavy as f***.”</blockquote><p>Spellman has quickly earned the trust of coach Steve Kerr and his teammates, averaging a healthy 7.9 points and 5.8 rebounds while playing in all 20 games this season. It is why it isn’t shocking as someone as talented as Omari Spellman would want to be with the program.</p><p>According to Jay Wright, in an interview<a href="https://www.fanragsports.com/rothstein-spellman-ready-to-have-massive-impact-for-villanova/" rel="noopener"> with Jon Rothstein</a>, Omari Spellman already has a unique spot in the Wright era of Nova hoops.</p><blockquote>“He’s unlike any other freshman big man we’ve ever had here,” Wright said of the 6-foot-9 Spellman, who’s dropped 40 pounds since arriving on Villanova’s campus. “His basketball IQ is really impressive. He was really well coached at all levels before he got here. He doesn’t have the defensive prowess right now of someone like Daniel Ochefu, but offensively, he should be one of the best big men in the country.”</blockquote><p>“Unlike anything we’ve ever had here,” is some might praise for a program that has won a title.</p><p>What apparently makes Spellman so unique is he can play like a guard, but with big men tendencies.</p><blockquote>“He can play like Kris Jenkins or like Daniel Ochefu,” Wright said of Spellman. “It’s a little different because we never had someone as a freshman that we could feature like this in terms of being a dominant interior scorer.”</blockquote><p>This sure as heck sounds like a one-and-done talent. Oh, don’t worry, Jay Wright is nearly rooting for it.</p><blockquote>“He’s that type of guy,” Wright said. “We hope he plays like a one-and-done guy. We know he has those capabilities. Omari knows that the best way to the NBA is by becoming a complete player and a winner.
