However, Williams will now be out for at least two more weeks after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection in his knee.</p><p>“Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams received a platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection to treat tendinosis in his right knee,” a team spokesperson said in a release on Thursday. “Williams will be re-evaluated in two weeks.”</p><p>This is unfortunate news for the Bulls as they prepare for their first game back from the All-Star break against the New York Knicks on the road. Chicago is currently in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, and they have made it clear that they are trying to make a run to the postseason despite trading away their best player, Zach LaVine. The last thing they need right now is injury trouble, but that’s exactly what they have here with Patrick Williams.</p><p>The Bulls limped into the NBA All-Star break as they lost eight of their final 11 games, and this injury news is not a good start to the final stretch of the season. It’s hard to know where the Bulls go right now as they try to get back on track, but if the losing keeps up, the best option might be to tank for draft position.</p><p>So far this season, Williams is averaging 9.1 points per game in 26.2 minutes per game. He is also averaging 4.0 rebounds per game and 2.0 assists per game. Williams has struggled to reach his full potential since joining the Bulls, and injury trouble certainly isn’t going to help.</p><p>The Bulls <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/game/_/gameId/401705358/bulls-knicks" rel="noopener">will return to action</a> without Patrick Williams on Thursday night against the Knicks. The Detroit Pistons were back in the United Center <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pistons-news-detroit-social-media-trolls-bulls-after-40-point-whooping">after beating the Bulls by 40 points</a> on Tuesday night, and they convincingly won game two as well. To make matters even worse for the Bulls, Patrick Williams went down with a knee injury and left the game.</p><p>Patrick Williams banged knees with a player on the Pistons, and that is when the injury happened. Fortunately, his X-Rays came back fine and it doesn’t sound like this is going <a href="https://x.com/KCJHoop/status/1889885413789278655" rel="noopener">to be anything serious</a>.</p><p>“Williams said he hit knees and aggravated a tendon but X-rays checked out fine and he’s not concerned about this being long-term issue,” K.C. Johnson said in a post.</p><p>This is important for the Bulls as the last thing that they need right now is injury trouble. With the Bulls getting the next week off because of the NBA All-Star break, Williams should easily be able to make a quick recovery.</p><p>Williams has struggled to meet expectations during his career with the Bulls, but he should get all the opportunities in the world to take some strides during the final stretch of the season. The Bulls have made it clear that they want to explore every facet of their lineup, and Williams is definitely somebody that they want to get going. He has shown flashes, but he has lacked consistency.</p><p>Going down with an injury would add to an already frustrating season for Williams, so it’s good to see that he isn’t dealing with anything major here.</p><p>The Bulls have now reached the NBA All-Star break and they get some much-needed time off. Instead, Williams has gone backward and is currently suffering through the worst season of his career. Saturday night only brought more disappointment, with Williams scoring just two points on 1-of-9 shooting in an ugly 109-97 loss to a shorthanded Philadelphia 76ers team.</p><p>Bulls head coach Billy Donovan has tried to show support for Williams by keeping him in the starting lineup despite his struggles, <a href="https://x.com/KCJHoop/status/1883356203860070765" rel="noopener">but the coach was blunt after Saturday’s game</a>.</p><p>“I think he’s trying to be aggressive. He just hasn’t converted well,” Donovan said, per CHSN’s K.C. Johnson.</p><p>“Hasn’t converted well” is putting it lightly. Williams is shooting a career-worst 37.0% overall and 35.5% from 3-point range. The 23-year-old is shooting a truly appalling 38.6% on 2-pointers this season and has been <a href="https://x.com/chisportsross/status/1883341850863673628" rel="noopener">one of the worst finishers in the NBA</a>, infamously missing a number of dunks.</p><p>Williams’ brutal season has Bulls fans frustrated with both the player and the coach. The replies to Johnson’s post show fans calling for both <a href="https://x.com/geovanibonfilio/status/1883358503064293638" rel="noopener">Williams’ benching</a> and <a href="https://x.com/ZoharMinkovich/status/1883356723576279307" rel="noopener">Donovan’s firing</a>. While Donovan certainly deserves some blame for Williams’ lack of development, it’s not the coach’s fault that his player all of a sudden is bricking a bunch of dunks and layups and can’t effectively dribble.</p><h2><b>Patrick Williams remains defiant</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Williams-warms-up.jpg"><figcaption>David Banks-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While Patrick Williams has been a disaster this season, he’s still trying to put on a confident face. When asked about his confidence level after Saturday’s loss, Williams claimed “I got game” and added even this: “I know what I’ve done in this league. My teammates know. My coaches know. That’s why they’re so on me. Nobody wants it more than me. I guarantee you that. If I had answers, it would be fixed already. All I know is work. That’s what got me here. Work through it.”</p><p>Williams can’t really say anything else, but this is going to fall on deaf ears as fans watch the same thing over and over. The Bulls forward has always shown flashes in his career, but he has never put it all together to take that big step forward. His inconsistency from game to game has actually made him quite consistent when it comes to his <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/willipa01.html" rel="noopener">box score stats over a full season</a>.</p><p>Injuries haven’t helped matters either, but the excuses are running out with rookie Matas Buzelis waiting in the wings. He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Chicago Bulls</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bulls-news-billy-donovan-pinpoints-glaring-flaw-dooming-chicago">Chicago Bulls’ 2024-25 season hasn’t exactly gone according to plan</a>, as the team recently finished up a five-game homestand at 1-4 following their <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bulls-news-billy-donovan-honest-thoughts-wild-bulls-hornets-ending">loss to the Charlotte Hornets</a>. The Bulls have seen solid production out of veterans like Zach Lavine and Nikola Vucevic, but overall, the team is currently on a trajectory for yet another appearance in the play-in tournament this spring.</p><p>One of the more frustrating players for the Bulls this season has been Patrick Williams, a former lottery pick who supposedly fits the archetype of versatile wings that every team is currently looking for but hasn’t provided much production for Chicago this year.</p><p>Recently, Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times <a href="https://x.com/JCowleyHoops/status/1880744900259701040" rel="noopener">shed some light</a> on why the Williams experiment could soon be coming to an end.</p><p>“Add Patrick Williams to the growing list of the Bulls trade block, as a source said the front office feels he now needs a change of scenery,” reported Cowley on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>However, things may not exactly go seamlessly.</p><p>“The problem – Too little, too late once again,” reported Cowley, alluding to the fact that the Bulls likely could have gotten more for Williams if they had traded him earlier–and before they signed him to one of the most unfortunate contracts in the current NBA landscape.</p><h2><b>Another season mired in mediocrity</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Williams-warms-up.jpg"><figcaption>David Banks-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Bulls appeared to embrace a youth movement this past offseason by letting DeMar DeRozan depart for the Sacramento Kings and trading Alex Caruso for the much younger Josh Giddey.</p><p>The team also drafted Matas Buzelis in the first round this past June, giving them a solid foundation of young players who could theoretically grow into a young core.</p><p>However, the ability of those younger players to expand their games is currently being limited by the bizarre mix of veteran talent that the Bulls currently have on their roster, including most notably Lavine and Vucevic, neither of whom is good enough to carry a team to the playoffs but who do volume score enough to ensure that they aren’t bottom feeders.</p><p>The Bulls currently sit in tenth place in the Eastern Conference, which would put them in position to play in the 9 vs 10 play-in game for a third consecutive year.</p><p>Not exactly what fans had in mind for this season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Now, here we are five years later, and things still <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bulls-news-patrick-williams-rips-chicago-over-effort-level-in-blowout-loss-to-pacers">haven’t panned out for Williams</a>. He is in his fifth season with the Bulls, and he is still trying to fully find his footing in the league.</p><p>Expectations were high for Patrick Williams as soon as he stepped foot in Chicago. That’s obviously what comes with being a top-five draft pick. Williams has yet to meet those expectations, and <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/2025/01/16/chicago-bulls-patrick-williams-breaking-point/" rel="noopener">it’s been hard for him</a>.</p><p>“It’s obviously a challenge,” Williams said, according to an article from <i>The Chicago Tribune</i>. “I never want to be bad at anything on the court. I always want to try to make the right play. I work really hard at it. I don’t have one reason that I can give you for any of it.”</p><p>When Williams played at Florida State in college, he was a star. He didn’t have to think about a lot of these things and there were certain things that he didn’t need to work on because it came easy to him. Things haven’t been the same since he got to the league, and Williams might have to change his routine if he wants to get that kind of groove back.</p><p>“This stuff used to sort of just come naturally,” Williams said. “I’ve never really worked on it until now. I’ve always been a good finisher at the rim. Dunks are really not something people work on — but maybe it has to be for the next couple weeks until I get comfortable again.”</p><p>Since Williams joined the Bulls, he has averaged double figures in just two out of his five seasons. He averaged 10.2 PPG during the 2022-23 season and 10.0 PPG the following season as well.</p><p>So far this year, Patrick Williams is averaging 9.4 PPG, 4.0 RPG and 2.2 APG. He wants to reach that potential that he knows he has, and he knows there only way to achieve that: Work.</p><p>“You don’t know what you’re good at until you actually start doing it,” Williams said. “That’s part of the game. I love it. I hate it at the same time. But you can only get better if you work at it.”</p><p>If the Bulls can get the version of Patrick Williams that they expected when they drafted him, the trajectory of this team could change quite a bit.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
