While he has the ability to be an impactful two-way big man, he struggles to do so for long stretches of time, which is why he continues to find himself bouncing from team to team so frequently.</p><p>After failing to find a role with the Mavericks, they moved him to the Wizards, where he was able to find a bit more success on the court. The hope is that Holmes can hold down the fort in the frontcourt for Washington over the next two seasons while they look to find young prospects and develop them into stars.</p><p>If Holmes plays up to his full potential, he could be a consistent contributor for a lacking Wizards team in the 2024-25 campaign. In the 2020-21 campaign, which was easily the best of Holmes’ career, he put up solid numbers for the Sacramento Kings while starting 61 games (14.2 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 1.7 APG, 63.7 FG%). Whether Holmes can still play at that level in this stage of his career remains to be seen, though.</p><p>On a fairly moribound Wizards team, though, Holmes should have a shot to earn a consistent role with this team. Washington will obviously prioritize developing their young talent moving forward, but considering how the team is willing to pay him up to $13.3 million for the upcoming season, it’s fair to assume they are hoping that he can produce for them on the court.</p><p>Given the price tag associated with this deal, this is a decent move for Washington that will give them a solid option to hold down the fort on the frontcourt for the time being. There’s no telling whether or not Holmes will be a consistent producer for the team, but if he can find a role for himself, this could end up being a sneaky good move for the Wizards over the next two seasons.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Not only were they able to take a chance on a 3-and-D prospect, they were also able to acquire a big man in Holmes <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavs-news-dallas-kings-pull-trigger-on-huge-richaun-holmes-trade" rel="noopener">who flourishes in the pick-and-roll</a>.</p><p>Upgrading at center was one of the Mavericks’ greatest needs after their end to last season saw them hemorrhage points in the paint and lose out on the glass on a nightly basis. Holmes could have been that guy; as one would recall, he was an excellent player for the Kings when he was their starting center. Alas, Dereck Lively II’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavs-news-dereck-lively-ii-sensational-debut-sparks-victor-wembanyama-trolling" rel="noopener">emergence</a> and Dwight Powell’s continued presence has kept Holmes out of the rotation for most of the season.</p><p>Now, Richaun Holmes hasn’t complained about his lack of minutes on the Mavericks. But he might not be a fan at all of the fact that he doesn’t get any minutes. While that is still the likeliest scenario, it’s worth noting that the Mavs are reportedly also exploring potential trades for him.</p><p>According to the latest reports, Holmes, Tim Hardaway Jr. and JaVale McGee are the three players under contract who the Mavs are <a href="https://lastwordonsports.com/basketball/2023/07/03/nba-rumors-dallas-mavericks-looking-to-another-wing-and-big-man/" rel="noopener">trying to move this offseason</a>, per Tim Cato of The Athletic. While THJ and McGee’s futures with the team have long been in question as Dallas tries to build a contender around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Holmes’ inclusion is certainly quite the surprise.</p><p>“There are three more players under contract — Tim Hardaway Jr., JaVale McGee, and Richaun Holmes — who Dallas is attempting to trade. Holmes is the likeliest of the three to stick around, while Hardaway and McGee can’t be on Dallas’ roster if the front office wants to conclude its offseason in the way they envisioned,” Cato wrote in his report.</p><p>The Mavs are still looking for a wing defender and a starting-caliber center after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kyrie-irving-grading-mavs-3-year-dollar126-million-contract-2023-nba-free-agency" rel="noopener">re-signing Kyrie Irving</a> and Dwight Powell, and bringing in guards Seth Curry and Dante Exum. Considering the latest reports, it seems Dallas is still not convinced Holmes can be the guy at the center to get them over the hump.</p><p>Holmes averaged 3.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.3 blocks per game in his limited role with the Sacramento Kings in 2022-23. However, when he had the opportunity to start and played heavy minutes in 2020-23, he put up 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks.</p><p>If the Mavs are unable to find the starting center they are looking for, they might want to give Holmes a chance and see if he’ll fit well alongside Luka and Kyrie.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Kings are sending Richaun Holmes and the no. 24 pick in the draft to the Mavs.</p><p>Dallas is <a href="https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1672072535091937282" rel="noopener">using the traded player exception</a> created from the Davis Bertans deal <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-draft-news-thunder-trade-mavs-select-cason-wallace" rel="noopener">with the Oklahoma City Thunder</a> to acquire Holmes, per Adrian Wojnoarwoski of ESPN. To recall, the Mavs traded down early in the 2023 NBA Draft, sending Bertans and the no. 10 pick for the 12th pick and a $17 million TPE.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-mavs-looking-to-make-another-trade-after-nba-draft-deal" rel="noopener">Mavs didn’t stop there</a> during draft day, as it was revealed they were exploring potential deals to use the traded player exception to acquire a player or another current or future pick. In the end, they got both.</p><p>Sacramento selected forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper with the no. 24 pick and sent him to Dallas in the deal.</p><p>Richaun Holmes’ acquisition is pretty huge for the Mavs, as they finally got a starting-caliber big man who can fit well alongside Luka Doncic. Dallas needs a rebounder and shot-blocker, and that’s exactly what they’re getting from the 29-year-old.</p><p>Holmes’ playing time in Sacramento decreased significantly after the team got Domantas Sabonis midway through the 2021-22 season. Back in 2020-21 when he started in all 61 games he played with the Kings, however, Holmes averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks. He has career averages of 8.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.0 block.</p><p>Alongside Doncic and, possibly Kyrie Irving if he chooses to stay in the Big D, Holmes could very well transform into a double-double threat.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
