The first step involves addressing their current crop of free agents, and it looks like they have come to a decision on the future of Richaun Holmes.</p><p>Holmes was picked up by Washington in their trade with the Dallas Mavericks for Daniel Gafford, and he played well in a limited stint to finish the season with his new team (7.1 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 0.6 APG, 55.7 FG%). While he has the ability to be an impactful two-way big man, he struggles to do so for long stretches of time, which is why he continues to find himself bouncing from team to team so frequently.</p><p>After failing to find a role with the Mavericks, they moved him to the Wizards, where he was able to find a bit more success on the court. The hope is that Holmes can hold down the fort in the frontcourt for Washington over the next two seasons while they look to find young prospects and develop them into stars.</p><p>If Holmes plays up to his full potential, he could be a consistent contributor for a lacking Wizards team in the 2024-25 campaign. In the 2020-21 campaign, which was easily the best of Holmes’ career, he put up solid numbers for the Sacramento Kings while starting 61 games (14.2 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 1.7 APG, 63.7 FG%). Whether Holmes can still play at that level in this stage of his career remains to be seen, though.</p><p>On a fairly moribound Wizards team, though, Holmes should have a shot to earn a consistent role with this team. Washington will obviously prioritize developing their young talent moving forward, but considering how the team is willing to pay him up to $13.3 million for the upcoming season, it’s fair to assume they are hoping that he can produce for them on the court.</p><p>Given the price tag associated with this deal, this is a decent move for Washington that will give them a solid option to hold down the fort on the frontcourt for the time being. There’s no telling whether or not Holmes will be a consistent producer for the team, but if he can find a role for himself, this could end up being a sneaky good move for the Wizards over the next two seasons.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Not only were they able to take a chance on a 3-and-D prospect, they were also able to acquire a big man in Holmes <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavs-news-dallas-kings-pull-trigger-on-huge-richaun-holmes-trade" rel="noopener">who flourishes in the pick-and-roll</a>.</p><p>Upgrading at center was one of the Mavericks’ greatest needs after their end to last season saw them hemorrhage points in the paint and lose out on the glass on a nightly basis. Holmes could have been that guy; as one would recall, he was an excellent player for the Kings when he was their starting center. Alas, Dereck Lively II’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavs-news-dereck-lively-ii-sensational-debut-sparks-victor-wembanyama-trolling" rel="noopener">emergence</a> and Dwight Powell’s continued presence has kept Holmes out of the rotation for most of the season.</p><p>Now, Richaun Holmes hasn’t complained about his lack of minutes on the Mavericks. But he might not be a fan at all of the fact that he doesn’t get any minutes. Powell is said to be the favorite to start–perhaps thanks to his familiarity and chemistry with Luka Doncic–though they also have high hopes on Holmes and his potential resurgence with Dallas after struggling in the past two seasons with the Sacramento Kings.</p><p>“While Dallas could still trade for a big man, the <a href="https://theathletic.com/4686850/2023/07/14/mavericks-rumors-summer-league-trade-rookies/" rel="noopener">team is content</a> to enter next season with the centers currently on the roster,” Tim Cato of The Athletic reported.</p><p>“If that’s the case, Dwight Powell would be the favorite to retake his starting spot. While that is still the likeliest scenario, it’s worth noting that the Mavs are reportedly also exploring potential trades for him.</p><p>According to the latest reports, Holmes, Tim Hardaway Jr. and JaVale McGee are the three players under contract who the Mavs are <a href="https://lastwordonsports.com/basketball/2023/07/03/nba-rumors-dallas-mavericks-looking-to-another-wing-and-big-man/" rel="noopener">trying to move this offseason</a>, per Tim Cato of The Athletic. While THJ and McGee’s futures with the team have long been in question as Dallas tries to build a contender around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Holmes’ inclusion is certainly quite the surprise.</p><p>“There are three more players under contract — Tim Hardaway Jr., JaVale McGee, and Richaun Holmes — who Dallas is attempting to trade. Holmes is the likeliest of the three to stick around, while Hardaway and McGee can’t be on Dallas’ roster if the front office wants to conclude its offseason in the way they envisioned,” Cato wrote in his report.</p><p>The Mavs are still looking for a wing defender and a starting-caliber center after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kyrie-irving-grading-mavs-3-year-dollar126-million-contract-2023-nba-free-agency" rel="noopener">re-signing Kyrie Irving</a> and Dwight Powell, and bringing in guards Seth Curry and Dante Exum. The Kings are sending Richaun Holmes and the no. 24 pick in the draft to the Mavs.</p><p>Dallas is <a href="https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1672072535091937282" rel="noopener">using the traded player exception</a> created from the Davis Bertans deal <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-draft-news-thunder-trade-mavs-select-cason-wallace" rel="noopener">with the Oklahoma City Thunder</a> to acquire Holmes, per Adrian Wojnoarwoski of ESPN. To recall, the Mavs traded down early in the 2023 NBA Draft, sending Bertans and the no. 10 pick for the 12th pick and a $17 million TPE.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-mavs-looking-to-make-another-trade-after-nba-draft-deal" rel="noopener">Mavs didn’t stop there</a> during draft day, as it was revealed they were exploring potential deals to use the traded player exception to acquire a player or another current or future pick. In the end, they got both.</p><p>Sacramento selected forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper with the no. 24 pick and sent him to Dallas in the deal.</p><p>Richaun Holmes’ acquisition is pretty huge for the Mavs, as they finally got a starting-caliber big man who can fit well alongside Luka Doncic. Dallas needs a rebounder and shot-blocker, and that’s exactly what they’re getting from the 29-year-old.</p><p>Holmes’ playing time in Sacramento decreased significantly after the team got Domantas Sabonis midway through the 2021-22 season. Back in 2020-21 when he started in all 61 games he played with the Kings, however, Holmes averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks. In addition, they believe that Holmes is right to sue the newspaper.</p><p>The Sacramento Bee, which was founded in 1857 as The Daily Bee, is owned by the The McClatchy Company. In 2013, The McClatchy Company’s actions during the height of Osama Bin Laden’s reign as the leader of Al-Qaeda <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/30/us/qaeda-plot-leak-has-undermined-us-intelligence.html" rel="noopener">led to a national security threat</a> that was more dangerous than Edward Snowden leaking classified documents.</p><p>While those are two totally different situations, the fact that the company again finds itself in hot water for unethical practices is alarming.</p><p>As for Holmes, he’s right to think that the allegations will have a negative effect on his livelihood. Although the court has acquitted him of any wrongdoing, not everyone will know that or care. Holmes should be focusing on his career and securing a major contract within the next couple of offseasons. Under <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-mike-brown-reveals-real-reason-for-leaving-stephen-curry-dubs-for-kings-job" rel="noopener">head coach</a> Mike Brown, the Kings currently own a 22-18 record — good enough for the fourth-best in the Western Conference — and are riding a two-game win streak. If the season ended today, Sacramento would have a home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.</p><p>And according to a recent rumor, the Kings are looking to trade one of their big men as they gear up for a playoff push. Specifically, the team is open <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/pacers-accelerated-timeline-may-have-them-looking-to-improve-at-trade-deadline-154008427.html" rel="noopener">to dealing Richaun Holmes</a>, per a recent article from Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer:</p><p>“Richaun Holmes is available for trade, league sources told Yahoo Sports. After signing a four-year, $46 million deal in the 2021 offseason, Holmes has not been a part of head coach Mike Brown’s rotation this season.”</p><p>Richaun Holmes, 29, is in his eighth year in the NBA and fourth as a member of the Kings. He’s averaging 2.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.1 steals, and 0.3 blocks across 26 appearances this season (zero starts). After starting 37 games one year ago, Holmes is averaging just nine minutes of playing time per contest. The primary reason for Holmes’ minutes reduction is the emergence of Domantas Sabonis, who’s looked like a bonafide star in 2022-23.</p><p>It’s unclear as to what the Kings would be able to fetch on the trade market for Holmes, but they probably won’t get much for him. According to the Bee’s article, Allexis is suing her ex-husband in custody and domestic violence cases and filing a restraining order against him.</p><p>She told the news outlet that the two divorced in 2019. She claims that her son came home from a visit with Holmes with an unexplained bloody injury above his eyebrow in February of 2022. Now, Allexis is doing whatever she can to protect her son and has completely cut basketball and the Kings out of their lives.</p><blockquote>“I’ve completely detached myself from that life so that I can raise my son in peace. Tyrese Haliburton and Harrison Barnes have been impressive but players like De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield have been subpar. One other notable asset who was phenomenal last season to their success was Richaun Holmes.</p><p>Holmes was a lackluster bench player for the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns in the earlier part of his career, but he has found his rejuvenated self in Sacramento. His efficiency, rebounding and swats have been tremendous over his Kings stint but injuries, COVID protocols and rotational adjustments are just some of the reasons on his down year. As his value is lower and the Kings have expressed their interest to listen offers for Holmes, there are a few franchises that must pounce on this opportunity.</p><h2><b>Richaun Holmes Trade Destinations </b></h2><p><b>Charlotte Hornets</b></p><p>When there is a big available on the market, the Charlotte Hornets must also inquire on these individuals that is one glaring hole on their lineup. Their guards and wings are impeccable already, but the four and five positions could still be bolstered for them to compete with the powerhouses in the Eastern Conference. Richaun Holmes would complement well alongside the core of LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges.</p><p>James Borrego’s offensive schemes would be a perfect destination for Holmes as he would likely reach his ceiling and showcase his true wares. Even with Holmes receiving a slew of lobs and pick and roll conversions, it is his leaping ability and rim protection that will prove to be more vital. Adding Holmes to aid Mason Plumlee gives them more options in containing the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, and Kevin Durant.</p><p><b>Dallas Mavericks</b></p><p>With Kristaps Porzingis continually maximizing his talent from outside the paint, it is ideal for head coach Jason Kidd to pair him with a big that excels as a roller and a boatload of energy to crash the boards. Holmes fits that realm because Luka Doncic and Holmes could run several pick and rolls every game, which could wreak havoc for defenses. Additionally, shooters would be lurking in the corner to create space for Doncic as well.</p><p>Holmes would be an upgrade from Dwight Powell as the secondary big alongside Porzingis. Maxi Kleber and Dorian Finney-Smith are terrific shooters from the wing positions who would complement Holmes as well. Moreover, Kidd’s priorities are focused on the defensive side of the court which would form a tremendous partnership with Richaun Holmes.</p><p><b>New York Knicks</b></p><p>The New York Knicks are in dire need to upgrade their front court rotation of Mitchell Robinson, Nerlens Noel and Taj Gibson. Holmes is a massive boost to Julius Randle on both ends of the court if the Knicks could manufacture a deal before the trade deadline. The three aforementioned centers have been underwhelming and inconsistent this season which is also one of the reasons for their disappointing 2021-22 campaign.</p><p>The value of the Knicks players might not be as enticing for Sacramento, but Leon Rose could be willing to part with Obi Toppin or even Noel to acquire Holmes. Head coach Tom Thibodeau relishes for players that work hard on every possession and hustles constantly for the 50/50 balls. Holmes would be incredible in the culture and environment he intends to build in Madison Square Garden. Kemba Walker is another one struggling for New York, but his dish-offs could open up through the incredible positioning and relentlessness of Richaun Holmes.</p><p>There is no doubt that the Kings will have a busy and exhausting time before the trade deadline, but Holmes is a tremendous asset who possess commendable basketball brilliance. It is ironic for Sacramento to shop him after signing him to a long term extension in the offseason, but if they are adamant in giving him up for future assets, then teams must be persistent. Even if his contract is for four years, it is not much of a headache since it is less than $15 million a year.</p><p>Richaun Holmes has a unique style of play and Sacramento should not waste it on  just nobody once again.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

It was a crazy finish at the Chase Center with both teams exchanging punches down the stretch. The Warriors were up by three when Curry came up with the huge defensive end with just over a minute left. Unfortunately, Steph followed up his clutch play on defense with a couple of offensive blunders that helped keep Sacramento in the game.</p><p>In the end, Curry sunk key free throws in the game’s dying seconds to help the Warriors escape with a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/scores/nba/boxscore/sacramento-kings-golden-state-warriors-4-26-2021/e7d95cb5-0ff3-4281-94a6-e98737d285b1" rel="noopener">117-113 victory</a> over the visiting Kings.</p><p>The seven-time All-Star isn’t the best defensive player in the NBA. We all know that. The 33-year-old is statistically having one of his worst defensive seasons with 1.2 steals per game and a career-low of just 0.1 blocks per game. Nonetheless, Curry is clutch and he knows when his Warriors need him to make a huge play whether that’s on offense or defense.</p><p>When the Warriors need a big play, they know Curry’s there to save the day.
