The Timberwolves found themselves down by 20 in the second half before storming back and taking a late lead, only to have Lakers guard <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/minnesota-timberwolves/timberwolves-news-austin-reaves-game-winner-leaving-julius-randle-sleepless">Austin Reaves hit</a> a game winner on them as time expired.</p><p>The Reaves play occurred when he got a screen from a teammate, then navigated around Rudy Gobert, who bizarrely positioned himself off to the side of Reaves instead of in front of him, and then lofted in a floater over Donte DiVincenzo.</p><p>Users on X, formerly Twitter, <a href="https://x.com/r_mack/status/1983891176731095531" rel="noopener">were frustrated with</a> the former Defensive Player of the Year, to say the least.</p><p>“Rudy Gobert is slow and old now and provides zilch offensively, and an average defense, but the smarter than everyone GM doubled down on his investment and basically used up every asset imaginable so now it’s next to impossible to pair Ant up with a star,” wrote one fan.</p><p>“There’s about 20 centers in the league that’ll give you what 2025 Rudy Gobert is giving the Wolves rn and it’s a sad sight to see,” added another.</p><p>“Idk guys, you can yell about the coach all you want, I don’t care who the coach is if this is what Rudy Gobert is now the team isn’t gonna be very good,” chimed in another.</p><h2><b>A frustrating start for the Timberwolves</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Gobert-shoots.jpg"><figcaption>Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Minnesota Timberwolves entered this season hoping to continue to build off two straight trips to the Western Conference Finals. It marked their second straight trip to the conference finals.</p><p>The Pacers, meanwhile, went 50-32 as the No. 4 seed in the East. Indiana opened the postseason with a first-round victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, then knocked out the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in five games. The Pacers advanced to the NBA Finals by defeating the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. I’ve been blessed over my career to help Anthony Davis, Domantas Sabonis, Bobby Portis, Dwight Howard etc. Five guys who are dominate from 15ft and in. <a href="https://t.co/P2PPptjmRe">pic.twitter.com/P2PPptjmRe</a></p><p>— Lethal Shooter (@LethalShooter__) <a href="https://twitter.com/LethalShooter__/status/1949202083246412029?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 26, 2025</a></p></blockquote><p><script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p></figure><p>Fans in the comment section on X, formerly Twitter, couldn’t believe what they were seeing.</p><p>“10 years too late,” opined one fan, referencing Gobert’s advanced NBA age.</p><p>Others used Gobert as a means of complimenting other NBA stars who are a bit more proficient at shooting the ball.</p><p>“Watching Rudy shoot reminds me how crazy it is for guys like Joel to have the touch they do at that size,” joked one user.</p><p>Others suggested that Gobert’s Timberwolves teammates be on the lookout for him more often this year.</p><p>“Rudy is open 100% of the time, literally all they have to do is dump it to him,” they wrote.</p><h2><b>Can Gobert expand his game?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Timberwolves_db8176.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: Jesse Johnson-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>At this point, it would seem to be highly unlikely that Gobert uses many of the tools that Lethal Shooter taught him in a real NBA game.</p><p>Gobert has long drawn the ire of Timberwolves fans for his frequent habit of fumbling seemingly easy catches around the basket and his lack of touch around the rim, which at times has cancelled out the immense impact he can have on defense.</p><p>Gobert quieted those concerns with an unbelievable offensive performance in the Timberwolves’ Game 5 win over the Los Angeles Lakers this past spring, but was quiet on that end of the floor in the ensuing two series.</p><p>If the Timberwolves could get just a little bit more production out of Gobert on offense, it could make life a whole lot easier for Anthony Edwards as he looks to orchestrate things.</p><p> </p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
