After all, he is someone who is as dangerous on offense as he is on defense, which you can also say about the Celtics in general. [Sam] is the only one you go at,” Smart said. “I mean, if I’m playing us, that’s the person I got at, too. I don’t want one of those other four.”</p><p>While Smart’s initial comment <a href="https://heavy.com/sports/boston-celtics/sam-hauser-defense-target/" rel="noopener">to reporters</a> might sound like a diss, he followed it up by saying that hunting Hauser doesn’t always work out for other teams.</p><p>“But that’s what makes us such a good team. You think you can go at him, but he’s a good defender, too,” Smart continued. “If guys want to force the issue and go at him, we’ll take it all day.”</p><p>In just 13 minutes, Hauser had eight points and three blocks versus Indiana. Celtics sharpshooter Sam Hauser was a big reason why.</p><p>With no Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, and Al Horford, the clash of East titans looked slated to be severely one-sided on paper. Coach Mike Budenholzer addressed the decision, stating that it’s nearly always situational and that this time around the team was banking on being able to force a stop, via The Athletic’s Eric Nehm:</p><p><i>“We do different things end of game,”</i> Mike Budenholzer said on Sam Hauser’s shot. <i>“The catch-and-shoot coming out of that is probably what they’re looking for and we defended everything well, defended all the screens prior. He gets it out at halfcourt and hits a 30-footer or whatever it was. There’s different things that we’ll do. Credit to Hauser for making the shot. Khris did exactly what we asked him to do. Just fortunate to find a way to win it in overtime.”</i></p><p>With no Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown, it wasn’t the worst decision in the world to force one of the Celtics’ role players to create a play against a stout Bucks defense. The Celtics entered the game <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/celtics-news-jayson-tatums-final-status-vs-bucks-amid-bostons-lengthy-injury-report" rel="noopener">without the services of Jayson Tatum</a>, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and Al Horford. Despite being without four of their top stars, they led for much of the game.</p><p>However, the Bucks took a lead late in the fourth quarter. Boston had one chance and Sam Hauser, of all players, stepped up. However, Jrue Holiday then took over the game. He came up with a steal for a bucket and later sank a triple, giving Milwaukee the lead for good. The Celtics lost their 17th game of the season, 131-125.</p><p>They are now tied with the Bucks in the loss column but hold a slim half game lead with 41 wins to 40.</p><p>The Bucks got massive contributions from both Holiday and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Holiday finished with a game-high 40 points to go with seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. Giannis did his part as well, dropping 36 points, 13 boards and nine assists.</p><p>The Celtics were led by White’s 27 points. All five Boston starters reached double figures and backup point guard Malcolm Brogdon scored 26 off the bench. All things considered, this loss likely gives Boston even more confidence. If they can give the Bucks that much of a game without their best players on the road, a series outlook is a bit shinier than this game’s outcome.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
