He played eight games for Charlotte, averaging nine points per game.</p><p>Curry has played for nine franchises in his 11-year NBA career, averaging 10.4 points per game while shooting 43 percent from beyond the 3-point line.</p><p>Denver Nuggets point guard Reggie Jackson had already exercised his $5.3M player option for the 2024-25 season. However, Jackson’s plans to stay in Denver came to a screeching halt last month when the Nuggets dealt Jackson to the Hornets.</p><p>The Hornets are still searching for a solid guard rotation to build around LaMelo Ball. While Charlotte has some solid pieces in the front court with Brandon Miller, Mark Williams, and Miles Bridges, they desperately need some help in the backcourt. Team had a deadline today on guaranteeing Curry’s contract for the 2024-2025 season.”</p><p>As Wojnarowski notes, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Curry won’t return to the Hornets. Three players dominated the conversation — James Wiseman, LaMelo Ball, and Anthony Edwards — but ultimately, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/carmelo-anthony-reveals-how-timberwolves-anthony-edwards-can-fulfill-lofty-michael-jordan-comparisons">Minnesota ended up taking Edwards.</a> And while that has proven to be an incredibly wise decision, Charlotte Hornets guard Seth Curry believes that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-lamelo-ball-sets-new-basketball-record-but-in-another-continent">Ball, his teammate, could produce</a> similar results as Edwards if given the same opportunity.</p><p>While the Timberwolves went to work assembling a formidable team around Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns, another first-overall pick, by trading for veterans like Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley Jr., transforming their team into a legitimate championship contender, the Hornets have largely wallowed in mediocrity since Ball’s arrival in Charlotte.</p><p>The Hornets have not reached the NBA Playoffs since 2015, five years before Ball was drafted, and although Charlotte came relatively close in 2022, the Hornets have been less than inspiring with Ball as their point guard. That’s not to completely blame Ball, though, as he was named Rookie of the Year over Edwards in 2021 and became an All-Star in 2022, a year before Edwards earned his first All-Star Game selection.</p><p>And while the last two seasons have been marred by injuries, Seth Curry said on Austin Rivers’ podcast ‘Off Guard’ that Ball can <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/seth-curry-on-finals-mvp-summer-of-the-celtics/id1711438444?i=1000659446039" rel="noopener">still produce similarly</a> to Edwards, who led his team to the Western Conference Finals this year, and compared him to Devin Booker before Chris Paul was acquired by Phoenix in 2020.</p><p>“[If you] put the right team around LaMelo, he can be the best player on a great team,” Curry said.</p><p>“I’m agreeing with you,” Rivers replied. “I’m not saying it’s a LaMelo thing, I’m just saying for whatever reason it’s been, injuries, personnel, we have not seen the jump that Anthony Edwards has. They both came in the same year.”</p><p>Curry understandably continued to campaign for Ball, saying that if Charlotte had added the right complementary pieces around Ball and Ball had been able to stay healthy, he could win.</p><p>“He ain’t that far off,” Curry said of Ball. “It’s health and personnel. The now former Cardinal star was taken <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/meet-cameron-brink-the-sparks-no-2-pick-2024-wnba-draft">second overall</a> in the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/stanford-womens-basketball-news-cameron-brink-declares-2024-wnba-draft-after-pac-12-title-loss-juju-watkins-usc">2024 WNBA Draft Monday night</a> —  just after the Indiana Fever unsurprisingly used their No. 1 pick to get Iowa Hawkeyes superstar Caitlin Clark.</p><p>During the draft, Brink also shared a story about having a conversation with the Currys, particularly Golden State Warriors star point guard Stephen Curry, Charlotte Hornets guard Seth Curry, and the Currys’ mother, Sonya, who is also Brink’s godmother.  Brink said that the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player had some good words and advice imparted to her. Unlike Stephen, though, Seth did not seem too interested in giving words of encouragement based on Brink’s hilarious and heartwarming story at the same time.</p><p>“Right before I came here, I face-timed Steph [Curry] with Sonya, my godmother, and my mom, Brink said. “He said all these encouraging words, laughing with me. Her excellent rebounding and fantastic rim protection are what she’s expected to deliver the most for Los Angeles, which finished the 2023 WNBA season just 11th in the league in both rebounds per game (31.5 ) and blocks per contest (2.9). Los Angeles, which has not been to the WNBA Playoffs since 2020, managed to come up with just a 17-23 record, which was good for only ninth overall in the league.</p><p>The Sparks can count on Brink to provide them with those once she gets into a rhythm in the pros. After all, Brink was named the 2024 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year in her final year in college. Moreover, the 6-4 Brink is a three-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. Her defensive acumen and general feel for the game on both ends of the floor should translate well into the WNBA.</p><p>Offensively, Brink can also be relied upon by the Sparks. In her final season with Stanford, Brink averaged 17.4 points on 51.1 percent shooting from the field. She has limited range, having shot just 30.4 percent from behind the arc last season, but she’s deadly inside the 3-point line. It’s significant in the sense that his father Dell Curry spent a big part of his own NBA career playing for the Hornets. During NBA All-Star Weekend, Seth’s brother, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, <a href="https://twitter.com/HornetsReddit/status/1758954670679007395" rel="noopener">gave his thoughts</a> on Seth’s debut with the Hornets.</p><p>“It was a surprise cause I didn’t know Seth was on the trading block or whatnot up until probably two days before,” Curry said. “But the fact that he had his homecoming going back to Charlotte, the first game that they played they wore their retro, the old school pinstripe Hornets jersey which my pops wore. . .it’s cool to see the Curry 30 alive back in Charlotte. We still got a lot of family there, my dad obviously doing the color commentating for games, it’s a family affair for sure.”</p><p>While Dell Curry began his NBA career with the Utah Jazz, he played ten years for the Hornets, the longest stint of his career. There are old pictures of Stephen Curry as a kid at his dad’s games and now Seth Curry gets to carry on the family legacy with the franchise.</p><p>In three games since the trade, Seth has come off the bench in a little over 18 minutes per game. With Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, among others, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavs-news-luka-doncic-ruled-out-quad-injury" rel="noopener">already listed out</a> for tonight’s road game versus the Houston Rockets, Mavs fans will be grateful to see the latest update on Seth Curry.</p><p>The veteran guard <a href="https://twitter.com/MavsPR/status/1738342911199121498" rel="noopener">is available</a> after dealing with back spasms, per the team’s PR, and will figure to be a focal point of a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-must-take-advantage-luka-doncic-kyrie-irving-mavs" rel="noopener">severely shorthanded squad</a>. Returning to Dallas has not brought the spike in production many hoped, with Curry shooting only 39.8 percent from the field this year, but he remains a dangerous perimeter threat.</p><p>The 33-year-old is connecting on 40.4 percent of his attempts from distance and scoring 4.5 points in 12 minutes per game. His role should expand, since injuries are piling up for the Mavs. A strong start for the team has understandably given way to a drop-off.</p><p>Dallas has lost three of its last four games and will be given all it can handle against the gritty Rockets. Lacking your All-Star backcourt, particularly MVP candidate Luka Doncic, is challenging enough, but head coach Jason Kidd is also without key supporting players in Dereck Lively II, Dante Exum, Josh Green and Maxi Kleber.</p><p>It could be a rough night for the Mavericks in the Toyota Center. The good news, though, is that the team has proven to be a threat when fully healthy. Even in a long season, it is critical to survive injury problems. Dallas cannot fall behind and be forced to claw its way back into the playoff conversation once again.</p><p>That did not work out well for the Mavs last season and is a demoralizing scenario to ponder this year. Curry had scored three points and grabbed two rebounds before leaving the game.</p><p>Injuries have been problematic for Dallas over the past few weeks. Kyrie Irving <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavs-news-kyrie-irving-injury-update-jason-kidd" rel="noopener">missed Tuesday’s game</a> with an injury of his own, while Luka Doncic was listed as questionable before <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavs-news-luka-doncic-concerning-injury-update-lakers-game" rel="noopener">ultimately still playing Tuesday</a>.</p><p>Other players who missed Tuesday’s battle versus the Lakers include Derrick Jones Jr, Josh Green and Maxi Kleber. Dallas has still performed well overall so far during the 2023-24 season despite the injuries. For now, all the Mavs can do is hope that Curry’s ankle issue isn’t anything too serious.</p><h2><b>Seth Curry’s impact on Mavs</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Mavs-Seth-Curry-Luka-Doncic.jpeg"></figure><p>Curry isn’t the best player on the Mavs. He is a quality three-point option, however. The 33-year-old is averaging 4.7 points per game on 40 percent field goal and 38.1 percent three-point shooting in 12.2 minutes per contest. Curry has started some games in recent action due to other Dallas injuries.</p><p>The Mavs will continue to need other role players to step up around Luka Doncic amid their injury concerns. Dallas should be alright if players such as Dante Exum and Jalen Hardy can perform at a respectable level. Meanwhile, Doncic, Dereck Lively, and Tim Hardaway Jr will lead the way with Irving out.</p><p>The Mavericks and Lakers are currently locked in a competitive contest. Doncic now has five 40-point games against the Clippers franchise, his most against any team. But they also fortified the offense around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving (who they re-signed) by bringing back Seth Curry on a two-year deal.</p><p>Curry is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavs-news-seth-curry-reunites-luka-doncic-dallas" rel="noopener">entering his third stint</a> with the Mavs, previously playing for them in the 2016-17 season and the 2019-20 season. From that second squad, only Doncic, Dwight Powell, Maxi Kleber and Tim Hardaway Jr. remain. Curry was the fourth leading scorer as Dallas made it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Following another postseason-less campaign, he’s back to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavs-burning-questions-dallas-2023-24-nba-training-camp" rel="noopener">help the squad</a> by supplying three-point marksmanship.</p><p>Doncic and Curry may have spent a few years apart but they can still be a tough tandem for defenses to handle. Dell Curry had a fair share of success in the NBA. Now, his sons Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Seth Curry of the Dallas Mavericks aim to continue his legacy. These accomplishments do not just span on the courts but also to the fairway as one of his sons just won the ACC golf tournament.</p><p>The American Century Championship is a hard golf tournament to win much like the Larry O’Brien trophy for basketball. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-steph-curry-hole-in-one-acc-celebrity-golf-tournament" rel="noopener">Stephen Curry aimed to claim</a> all the glory as he entered it with much preparation that spanned throughout the summer.</p><p>The Warriors guard was on top of the tournament and leading it. He beat out Mardy Fish and Joe Pavelski with his 75 points. A lot of came down to the eagle in the 18th hole which pushed him ahead of the former tennis star who had 73 points. Dell Curry and Seth Curry could not help but be amazed at what their family member has accomplished. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-steph-currys-hole-in-one-lebron-james-nba-reactions" rel="noopener">Steph even posted</a> the accolade <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Cux-ESzx0NS/?img_index=1" rel="noopener">immediately after</a> the ACC Golf tournament on Instagram.</p><p>“Dream come true! Championship flow in Tahoe.
