It’s a different ball game when somebody that talented listens you know what I’m saying and don’t think they got it all figured out. In the gym, always, whether it’s shootaround day, last one in the gym, whether it’s practice day, last one in the gym. Clearly, he has the work ethic to succeed, and Prince’s revelation about him always being the last one in the gym shows that as well.</p><p>Edwards is now with Team USA, hoping to bring home a gold medal in the Olympics. Then he will turn his focus to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-biggest-mistake-2024-nba-free-agency">bringing the Timberwolves</a> to the mountaintop. They got close last year, losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals after beating the Denver Nuggets in the second round.</p><h2><b>Anthony Edwards has been confident since day 1 with the Timberwolves</b></h2><p>Theo Pinson went on to bring up Edwards’ confidence, and Prince confirmed that, talking about an experience he has during the 2023 NBA Playoffs against the Nuggets.</p><p>“1000%, I remember we was in a series against Denver my last year there and I think we lost the first two,” Prince said. “And I forgot who said it was like, ‘man we should try this or that,’ Ant said, ‘man, just give me the ball.'”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-tim-walzs-naz-reid-kamala-harris-vp-pick">The Timberwolves ended up</a> losing that series in five games, but Edwards did have a standout performance in Game 4 of that series, which showed a glimpse of what he could become in the future. He now writes about sports instead as a form of therapy.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Los Angeles Lakers have a few huge decisions to make this offseason; making sure that LeBron James <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-rich-paul-eye-opening-lebron-james-free-agent-slip">remains with the team</a> is their first order of business, while hiring the right head coach who would push the correct buttons to aid in the Lakers’ quest in competing for a championship is another pressing priority. It’s understandable if the free agency of Taurean Prince, who’s quickly becoming a journeyman, won’t be given too much importance.</p><p>Nonetheless, if it were up to Prince, he would prefer to stay with the Lakers even though he isn’t exactly a fan favorite. At 30 years old, it looks as though Prince <a href="https://lakersnation.com/taurean-prince-100-wants-to-re-sign-with-lakers-in-free-agency/" rel="noopener">wants to settle down</a> in LA.</p><p>“My family, the quality of life in Los Angeles is something that myself and my family haven’t had in probably three or four seasons,” Prince told Trevor Lane of Lakers Nation. “So to stay here would be definitely number one. If not that, then I mean, wherever the dominoes fall and wherever it’s best, that’s where I’ll be. But I for sure want to be a Laker, 100%.”</p><p>Stability isn’t something that Taurean Prince is too familiar with, as the longest he has stayed with a team is three years, and it’s with the team that traded for him on draft night in 2016. Prince has bounced around with the Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Minnesota Timberwolves after the Atlanta Hawks traded him away in 2019.</p><p>It helps that the Lakers reside in Los Angeles; LA has always been an enticing place for veterans to spend the latter half of their careers in. Alas, it’s unclear if the Lakers reciprocate Prince’s sentiment. If Prince is willing to wait for the Lakers to settle their more pressing matters, then perhaps the team could bring him back, as he most likely wouldn’t command much more than a minimum deal in free agency.</p><h2><b>Taurean Prince’s 2023-24 season with the Lakers was filled with ups and downs</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Lakers-forward-Taurean-Prince-12-drives-against-Denver-Nuggets-forward-Peyton-Watson-8.jpg"></figure><p>To begin the 2023-24 season, it seemed as though the Lakers struck gold with their additions of Taurean Prince and Cam Reddish. Prince, along with Reddish, gave the Purple and Gold some much needed size, shooting, and defense on the wing. Prince quickly endeared himself to head coach Darvin Ham, as Ham has experience coaching the veteran forward back in their days with the Hawks.</p><p>Alas, Prince’s inconsistency made him a frustrating player to root for for Lakers fans. Moreover, his shot selection was very frustrating. And it wasn’t as though Prince made up for it with stellar defensive work, as he was closer to average than he was to top-tier. It did not help matters that Prince was a subpar rebounder who compounded the Lakers’ struggles on that facet of the game.</p><p>But at the end of the day, Prince is a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-lebron-james-epic-praise-taurean-prince-in-new-role">viable floor-spacing option</a>; he finished the 2023-24 season having shot 39.6 percent from deep, so it’s not like he’s undeserving of a roster spot, especially when the Lakers could use as many shooters as they can.</p><p>The Lakers signed Prince to a one-year, $4.5 million deal last season; teams that are in need of a shooting boost off the bench could do a lot worse than bringing the 30-year old forward in. It’s unclear how big of a priority bringing Prince back is for the Lakers, however, so as willing as Prince is to return, only time will tell if he gets his wish.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Anthony Davis certainly <a href="https://twitter.com/michaelcorvoNBA/status/1714359108781162554" rel="noopener">wouldn’t oppose</a> Taurean Prince getting the nod.</p><p>Davis commended Prince for his preseason showing after Lakers’ practice on Tuesday. Since fouling out of the preseason opener in 13 minutes, the veteran 3-and-D has shined amid the Lakers’ <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/los-angeles-lakers-training-camp-darvin-ham-anthony-davis" rel="noopener">perimeter shooting barrage</a>. I’m not sure who the starter is going to be, but I think he’s making a strong case for himself.”</p><p>Prince is competing with Rui Hachimura and Jarred Vanderbilt for the gig. Hachimura — the highest-paid of the three — offers a larger offensive repertoire and size. Prince, a career 37.2% 3-point shooter, provides imperative spacing around LeBron James and AD, along with quality wing defense. Vanderbilt is the most valuable and versatile defender of the group, but he’s nursing a sore left heel and may miss the start of the regular season.</p><p>Darvin Ham playfully “next question”-ed an inquiry on the competition on Tuesday.</p><p>“I don’t know, we’ll see. Still got a few days for it to play out. We’ll see. Sometimes it’s circumstantial. Aspiring Shane Falco.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>With their first move of the 2023 NBA free agency period, the Los Angeles Lakers <a href="https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1674905212413255681" rel="noopener">signed</a> forward Taurean Prince to a one-year, $4.5 million contract, according to various sources.</p><p>Prince checks multiple boxes for the Lakers. At 6’7, 218 pounds, the 29-year-old offers ideal size on the wing along with defensive versatility. He’s also a career 37.2% 3-point shooter who <a href="https://twitter.com/AlexmRegla/status/1674903133452115968">made 43%</a> of his corner-3 looks last season.</p><p>Prince averaged 9.1 points and 2.4 rebounds on .467/.381/.844 shooting splits across 54 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2022-23 —  the overall most efficient shooting season of his career. He spent his first three seasons with the Atlanta Hawks before two years with the Brooklyn Nets, one season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, then two in Minnesota. As a rookie, Prince played under Darvin Ham, who was then an assistant in Atlanta.</p><p>The Wolves declined Prince’s $7.4 million option earlier this week, rendering him an unrestricted free agent.</p><p>The Lakers used their bi-annual exception on Prince. They still have the $12.4 million non-taxpayer midlevel exception at their disposal, which they can use on one player or split up — perhaps to help them retain Dennis Schroder (and Lonnie Walker IV). Eric Gordon and Brook Lopez are among the names to watch, too, though both would likely garner the entire NTMLE, leaving Schroder’s future with the team in limbo.</p><p>The deployment of the bi-annual exception — with the organization had available because they didn’t use it in 2022-23 — means the Lakers will be hard-capped for 2023-24 at the $172.3 million first tax apron. At the time of this post, the Lakers have about $69 million left to use on free agents, including Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and D’Angelo Russell — each are who are expected to command at least $18 million annually.</p><p>Troy Brown Jr., who spent last season as a useful 3-and-D type for the Lakers, signed with Minnesota.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
