While a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstras-monster-bam-adebayo-take-will-fire-up-miami-fans">monster game from Heat star Bam Adebayo</a> and others kept the game with the No. 1 seed in the East close and even had a lead, Rozier’s offensive performance didn’t help as the Cavs made a comeback to win their 12th straight.</p><h2><b>Heat’s Erik Spoelstra doesn’t want Terry Rozier to be targeted </b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Terry-Rozier-on-March-5-2025.jpg"><figcaption>Ken Blaze-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra played Rozier for 40 minutes, which was a team-high as the team was missing their leading scorer in Tyler Herro. Rozier finished the game with 12 points on three for 14 shooting from the field, only making one of his eight attempts from deep, and didn’t make any of his eight shooting attempts in the entire second half.</p><p>When asked before Friday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves about the thought process of playing Rozier when he was struggling heavily in the second half, Spoelstra downplayed the decision, saying he doesn’t <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1898155450035581368" rel="noopener">“want Terry to be a target right now.”</a></p><p>“I don’t want Terry to be a target right now, that’s easy,” Spoelstra said. “I mean, this is the thing, when we’re playing all these tight games and really close, competitive games, and this is what I remind the locker room, we have to stay so laser focused into the process and not just the result. Everybody just watches the end result. Any one of these games, if we finish it off and a lot of this narrative, a lot of the dialogue, it just quiets on its own. And that’s the lesson. Rozier began the season in the starting lineup and had a few good outings before getting on a shooting slump and eventually relegated to the bench.</p><p>It got to the point where Spoelstra benched Rozier for two straight games until he was put back into rotation, especially recently <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstras-fun-silver-lining-for-miami-as-injury-woes-return">with the Heat’s injuries piling up.</a> Spoelstra would speak more on how Rozier was “instrumental” in the team coming back against Cleveland.</p><p>“The thing the other night, and this is what’s happened several times and it is tough and I’m not going to go into all of it, there’s not enough time, but we’re on a 16-5 run. It’s easy for anybody to say, ‘Make a change right then.’ That’s really not what you’re thinking of making a change, they call a time out, we’re up seven. It’s easy to say afterwards when it’s a result-based deal, ‘Well, he should have made a change.'”</p><p>“Then Davion was at the table at five, and then the game just kept on going. But I’m not going to get into all that,” Spoelstra continued. “You know, Terry, it was on the flip side, was really instrumental, him and H [Haywood Highsmith] were dynamic in our zone defense, and that group got us to a seven point lead down five or whatever, it was up to seven, it just felt like we had the momentum to push to a win, and we have to live with all the noise and the second guessing afterwards, that’s part of the deal.”</p><p>Miami is 28-31 which puts them seventh in the Eastern Conference before Friday’s game against Minnesota.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The report was part of a federal investigation into potential betting irregularities, the same probe that resulted in the lifetime ban of Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter. But we do have to recognize when there are tangible improvements, and we are seeing some of those. We have to work for our breakthrough.”</p><p>So far this season, Rozier has been averaging 12.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 40.4 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from three-point range.</p><h2><b>Heat’s Erik Spoelstra does see aspects to ‘build on’</b></h2><p>However, there are many flaws with the team that go beyond Rozier as the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-has-defiant-take-after-blowing-another-double-digit-lead-in-loss-to-bucks">Heat have suffered late-game collapses</a> where they build up double-digit leads, all for it to be erased by the end. Still, Spoelstra believes they can “build on” their “collective spirit” that has been shown.</p><p>“A lot of these games, some of the games were before the trade. Some of the games guys were out,” Spoelstra said. “So it doesn’t really matter. It’s just about doing what’s necessary to get a win.</p><p>“It’s hard to win in this league. I appreciate that. I really appreciate that this season. You have to fight and have a desperate collective energy that’s consistent all the way through, and there has to be a collective spirit, which our group has.”</p><p>“That’s the part I think we can build on. There’s a spirit in our locker room,” Spoelstra continued. “That usually indicates that things are going to start going in your direction.</p><p>“It doesn’t guarantee anything because it still is decided in between those four lines. But there are some intangibles in this locker room. Guys care about each other. They want to play well for each other. To get back on track, the break was “well-needed” and calls this time of the year “exciting.”</p><p>“Well needed, well needed,” Rozier said. “I ain’t got to see these guys’ face for a couple days. Wake up, get the time I need. But you know, I’m happy to be back and get another crack at it, make this last push. So, you know, this is an exciting time of the year for me. While <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/heat-news-terry-rozier-remains-confident-amid-early-season-struggles-foot-injury">Rozier acknowledges the frustration</a> he’s had with Miami in terms of his performance, he still believes he can be a “big help” in terms of getting this team to the postseason with 29 games left.</p><p>“I mean, that’s just what you trying to get out,” Rozier said of becoming his best self. “Teah, I know I could always be better. You could always be better. And obviously, the season wasn’t going like I how like, but you know, it’s not over. You can still make this push, and I know I can. I can be a big help with that.”</p><h2><b>Heat’s Terry Rozier envisions he’ll “appreciate the struggle”</b></h2><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-miami-pulls-off-terry-rozier-kyle-lowry-trade-hornets">Rozier was traded to the Heat</a> before the trade deadline last season where it was in exchange for Kyle Lowry and a first-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets. At one point, Rozier was considered to be the piece for Miami that could take them over the hump alongside Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro.</p><p>Even the starting backcourt duo of Herro and Rozier was showing flashes last year especially to start the current season, but that has since faded away. Add on the disappointment with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/heat-news-terry-rozier-breaks-silence-after-federal-betting-investigation">Rozier in a federal investigation connected to sports betting</a>, though the <a href="https://x.com/jareddiamond/status/1885018058202239471" rel="noopener">NBA found no wrong-doing</a>, it’s another hurdle for the 30-year-old star to jump over, though he mentioned he can “appreciate the struggle.”</p><p>“I think it’s just going to make when everything settles in and have a successful season, I think I can appreciate the struggle even more,” Rozier said. “So it’s part of it, not I’m not even worried about it. I move on from it. Don’t put your hands on your face,” Adebayo said. “Basically the things you teach kids, as you can see, always applies to not only kids but adults, as well.”</p><p>As said before, Jaquez was the first known player to have the stomach illness during this time and did make his return Wednesday, but didn’t log a single second.</p><p>“He was available,” Spoelstra said. “But his situation is a little bit different than Tyler. He’s been dealing with that for several days. Tyler dealt with it for 36 hours. Could Jaime have been out there? Possibly. But he hasn’t done anything really physically for several days.”</p><p>Illness or not, the team has a lot of work to do after losing another double-digit lead going into the fourth quarter where they scored a measly eight points leading to the loss.</p><p>“It’s one of those things, man, <a href="https://x.com/HeatvsHaters/status/1890086443340689663" rel="noopener">it’s a lesson,”</a> Adebayo said. “But how many times we got to keep learning this lesson? And it’s not just the players, it’s the coaches, as well.
