According to the latest report from Ira Winderman of The Sun Sentinel, Rozier’s contract could be a catalyst, with the team wanting to add another player since they have space for one more guaranteed contract to reach the maximum number of 15.</p><p>However, there have not been any true conversations as the interest from Rozier doesn’t appear to be present, as there is <a href="https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2025/09/08/heat-in-contact-with-former-first-round-pick-precious-achiuwa-amid-power-void/" rel="noopener">“without any outside options.”</a></p><p>“The Heat also could open such tax space for another player by merely waiving Rozier by the NBA contract guarantee deadline of Jan. 10, when all contracts become guaranteed,” Winderman wrote. “However, if the Heat were to take such a wait-and-see approach with Rozier and the veteran guard were to be injured and sidelined for the season, his full $26.6 million would be guaranteed.”</p><p>“There have been discussions about a Rozier buyout, but those talks have not gained traction, without any outside options for the veteran guard at the moment, as Rozier remains linked to a federal gambling investigation,” Winderman continued.</p><p>It has no doubt been an immensely frustrating development as Rozier has been disappointing on the floor ever since Miami traded a first-round pick and Kyle Lowry before the 2024 trade deadline.</p><h2><b>Heat is still figuring out what to do with Terry Rozier’s contract</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Terry-Rozier-on-March-31-2025-1.jpg"><figcaption>Reggie Hildred-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/nba-rumors-heat-decided-against-terry-rozier-marcus-smart-trade">rumors around Rozier and the Heat will continue,</a> the player himself is also involved in a federal investigation related to sports betting during his time with the Charlotte Hornets, though the NBA had found no wrongdoing before.</p><p>Going into last season, he was to be a main offensive piece in the starting lineup, alongside Tyler Herro in the backcourt, but fell out of the rotation as the season went on. Fischer himself would report that and even say that Miami could not come to an <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/monday-best-the-latest-hottest-and" rel="noopener">“organizational consensus”</a> if that was an upgrade.</p><p>“Miami weighed a Rozier-for-Smart swap but could not reach an organizational consensus on whether such a trade was a clear upgrade,” Fischer wrote.</p><p>Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald would add on to the report, saying that Miami didn’t go through with it <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article311510535.html" rel="noopener">“because of the draft capital”</a> that needed to be involved.</p><p>“Multiple league sources confirmed those trade talks between the Heat and Wizards took place this summer,” Chiang wrote. “While a Rozier-for-Smart swap would have made sense for the Heat because Smart was on a cheaper expiring contract ($21.6 million salary for this upcoming season before agreeing to a buyout with the Wizards) than Rozier’s expiring deal ($26.6 million salary for this upcoming season), a league source indicated the Heat ultimately did not make the trade because of the draft capital it would have needed to attach to Rozier to faciliate such a deal.”</p><p>At any rate, the Heat look to improve after finishing 37-45, which put them 10th in the Eastern Conference, and while the team made it through the play-in tourney, they would be swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.</p><p>Miami starts training camp on Sept. 30 in preparation for the preseason opener on Sept. 4 against the Orlando Magic, and then the start of the regular season is on Oct. 22, facing the same team.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Two years after initially raising red flags for a potential betting scandal in a game with the Charlotte Hornets, Rozier has not been charged with anything, but is far from out of the woods.</p><p>The league initially confirmed that they received a notice of suspicious betting activity on a game in which Rozier left after playing just 10 minutes due to a foot injury. They have since discovered that one specific bettor <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45768772/records-show-new-details-unusual-betting-nba-rozier" rel="noopener">placed 30 bets within an hour</a> on the day of the game worth over $10,000, all on Rozier to go lower than his player prop lines, according to ESPN’s David Purdum.</p><p>“A professional bettor placed 30 wagers in 46 minutes, all involving Terry Rozier in a 2023 NBA game,” Purdum wrote. “On the morning of March 23, 2023, a bettor at a sportsbook in Biloxi, Mississippi, placed $13,759 in bets on the unders on Rozier’s statistics in a game that night between the Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans, according to the documents, which ESPN acquired through an open records request. All 30 bets won, after Rozier, an eight-year veteran with the Hornets at the time, exited 10 minutes into the game, citing a foot issue.”</p><p>The records indicate that “at least six” sportsbooks received suspicious betting activity on Rozier the same day, but none more than the one bettor who placed his wagers at Harrah’s Gulf Coast in Biloxi. Purdum noted that most of the sportsbooks were located in Louisiana and Mississippi. The Rozier situation is being looked into as part of a large illegal gambling operation, though investigators appear to still be considering all possibilities. Rozier has yet to receive any punishment so far.</p><p>Should he be found guilty, Rozier would likely face the same punishment as infamous ex-Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter. He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Miami Heat</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-norman-powell-makes-all-star-declaration-after-clippers-trade">Miami Heat recently made a splash</a> by acquiring Norman Powell from the Los Angeles Clippers as part of a three-team trade that Miami was largely viewed as the beneficiary of. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-norman-powell-reveals-childhood-dream-to-play-for-miami">Powell gives the Heat</a> another versatile scorer who can help take some of the burden off of Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo in that department.</p><p>The trade for Powell was further evidence that the Heat don’t have a ton of future optimism for Terry Rozier, who they acquired midway through the 2023-24 season and is currently under investigation for potential involvement in NBA gambling activities.</p><p>Recently, league insider Chris Haynes took to X, formerly Twitter, to drop <a href="https://x.com/ChrisBHaynes/status/1945183056089719275" rel="noopener">the latest update</a> on that probe.</p><p>“Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier has not been cleared of any wrongdoing and remains under federal investigation on a potential gambling probe, league sources tell me,” reported Haynes on his account.</p><p>Joining Rozier under federal investigation for gambling is Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley, who saw his free agency period come to a pause when his own probe was announced.</p><h2><b>A tough break for Terry Rozier</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Miami-Heat-guard-Terry-Rozier.jpg"><figcaption>Rhona Wise-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While it’s important to note that he has not yet been charged or found guilty of anything, it has to be frustrating for both Terry Rozier and the Heat that the investigation has taken this long and still has not reached a resolution.</p><p>Rozier was brought in at the 2024 trade deadline in hopes of giving the Heat another point guard after the Kyle Lowry experiment fizzled out.</p><p>However, Rozier missed the Heat’s playoff exit vs the Boston Celtics that spring and eventually shot the ball so poorly in 2024-25 that he found his way out of Erik Spoelstra’s rotation in favor of younger players like Pelle Larsson.</p><p>Even if he does end up being cleared of any wrongdoing pertaining to gambling, it’s unclear what the future will hold for Rozier in a Miami Heat uniform, especially as the team added yet another guard in this year’s draft in Kasparas Jakučionis.</p><p>In any case, it appears we will have to wait a bit longer to see how the investigation turns out.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
