Despite <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/terry-rozier-trade-grades-heat-hornets">being traded last season from the Hornets</a> to the Miami Heat, the veteran guard still holds a soft spot for his former team. Ball learned a lot from Rozier, who gave the All-Star guard and his former team <a href="https://x.com/HornetsReddit/status/1844004183071985697" rel="noopener">props before a recent preseason</a> matchup against one another.</p><p>“He’s generational, I tell him that all the time,” Rozier said. “That’s little bro, he’s real good. This team is only going to go as far as he takes them having him be healthy. He knows what he gotta do.”</p><p>After spending 4 seasons with Ball, Rozier saw the trajectory he was on up close and personal from the start. From not being the full-time starter, to growing into a mainstay in the lineup, and eventually, the All-Star caliber potential showed later on. It’s a full-circle moment for a guy like Rozier who got to see a couple of these players grow and develop to be key contributors. Sharing a backcourt with a Ball for that long, Rozier had a front-row seat to all the ups and downs.</p><h2><b>Terry Rozier shows love to the Hornets organization too</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Terry-Rozier-during-a-Heat-game-on-April-5-2024.jpg"><figcaption>Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Rozier had nothing but positive things to say about the Hornets.</p><p>“The players are bought in,” Rozier said when asked about the changes Charlotte has made over the offseason. “They have a mindset aligned with the new owners and everything, how they want to go about stuff, and it’s just good to see.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-lamelo-ball-miles-bridges-react-terry-rozier-trade">Trading Rozier at the 2024 deadline</a> was the start of a domino effect for Charlotte. Along with moving Gordon Hayward at the deadline, they were able to get Tre Mann, Vasilije Micić, Grant Williams, Seth Curry, and draft compensation in those deals. Those players are all key pieces off the bench moving forward into the 2024-25 season. Leading up to having a solid draft picking up a project player in Tidjane Salaun, and another developing guard in KJ Simpson.</p><p>Those trades laid out the foundation of what could be a solid young team as the season wanes on. Hornets fans should be thankful that Rozier was moved to really embrace and kick off this new wave of basketball for this organization. Surely it wasn’t an easy move after he spent nearly five years with the franchise, but it’s business. Plus, landing in Miami gave him a chance to compete and be a part of their long-term plan.</p><h2><b>Miles Bridges’ take on Terry Rozier in Miami Heat jersey</b></h2><p>Miles Bridges played three in a half seasons with Terry Rozier, so seeing him in a Heat jersey was odd for him.</p><p>“Yeah, it’s weird, but at the same time, I’m happy to see my brother out there happy and doing his thing. I for sure wanna beat him 4-0 this year.”</p><p>Bridges will have a shot to kick that off immediately as the Hornets host the Heat in game number one of the regular season on October 26th.</p><p>All of Miami’s starters didn’t play over 17 minutes while Charlotte had a few guys in the mid-20s well they cleared their benches mid-way through the 3rd quarter.</p><p>Next time they suit up, we’ll see Charlotte’s new brand of basketball rolled out as they begin their long NBA journey.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

With training camp just a few weeks away, Terry Rozier made a striking admission about recovering from his neck injury.</p><p>“I would say not totally fully, fully, fully cleared playing five-on-five,” the point guard <a href="https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2024/09/11/heats-terry-rozier-nikola-jovic-still-working-back-from-ailments-less-than-three-weeks-from-camp/" rel="noopener">said</a>, via the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “But I am doing every on-court activity, playing a little bit three-on-three. But I figure in the next couple of weeks I’ll be graduating to five-on-five.”</p><h2><b>The Heat’s injury woes</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Terry-Rozier-at-a-game.jpg"><figcaption>© Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Recently, fans have learned not to trust the Heat’s regular season record to judge their playoff performance. However, last season, something was different, for the Heat looked like they stumbled onto the postseason, without the swagger they used to have.</p><p>Jimmy Butler being out since the play-in may have had something to do with it, but Terry Rozier’s neck injury also affected the team’s lackluster showing and speedy elimination. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/terry-rozier-trade-grades-heat-hornets">Heat had traded for Rozier</a> in exchange for veteran point guard Kyle Lowry, an upgrade across the board as an effective backcourt partner to Tyler Herro.</p><p>Besides youth, Rozier was also clearly more athletic at the point guard position than Lowry, and could also defend at the point of attack. Meanwhile, the team also wanted him mainly for his offensive production, for his scoring could take a lot of defensive pressure off Butler and big man Bam Adebayo.</p><p>Likewise, the departure of Gabe Vincent for the Lakers also opened up a need for the Heat. However, they never got to see their squad at full strength, thanks to all the injuries. With only a couple of weeks left before training camp, Rozier’s slow recovery could worry some fans.</p><p>They certainly could have used his scoring punch against the Celtics’ lanky defenders who kept them to only 92.2 points per game on an offensive rating of 100.7.</p><h2><b>On-court return</b></h2><p>Still, Scary Terry said that <a href="https://heatnation.com/team-news/terry-rozier-makes-promising-step-for-heat-in-injury-recovery/" rel="noopener">he was going to be ready</a> to play, no matter what.</p><p>“I’m a gamer, I’m a hooper,” he said, via Jesse Cinquini of Heat Nation. “I think getting my wind up is the most important thing. But once we all come into camp together, just getting that full camp together is the most important thing…. I think it’s just me getting with the other guys and getting on that level so we can play the right way, play together.”</p><p>Terry Rozier and Jimmy Butler returning to the court should be welcome news to the Heat. Before people can <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/predicting-heats-record-after-2024-25-season-schedule-release">predict any kind of Heat record for this season</a>, what’s the deal with the injuries to stars Terry Rozier and Nikola Jovic?</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-miami-pulls-off-terry-rozier-kyle-lowry-trade-hornets">Rozier was acquired before the trade deadline last season</a> after a productive stint with the Charlotte Hornets to fill in the point guard spot as Kyle Lowry was involved in the deal. However, he would finish the season missing the last 11 games including the postseason due to a neck injury though he told the media Wednesday that he is <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article292272680.html" rel="noopener">“fully cleared to play 5-on-5”</a> according to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald.</p><p>“Where I’m at right now is just about fully, fully, fully cleared to play 5-on-5,” Rozier said. “But I am doing every on-court activity, playing a little bit of 3-on-3. So I figure in the next couple weeks, I’ll be graduating to 5-on-5. I feel great.”</p><p>As for the young star in Jovic, he suffered from an ankle and foot injury that he suffered in a offseason workout in Miami in June. However, Jovic would play for the Serbian national team in the Paris Olympics where he won the bronze medal as the 21-year old said that he is “almost fully healthy.”</p><p>“I would say I’m almost fully healthy,” Jovic said. “Of course, there’s a little ligament that still has to be 100 percent. They told me it would take a little bit more time, but it shouldn’t be an issue. His timeline was sporadic during the end of the season where the stiffness in the neck region turned into spasms which made Rozier’s chances to come back last season even less likely to happen.</p><p>However, with a full offseason of recovery and a training camp to further solidify the connection with the rest of the team, he could further be the piece that keeps the Heat in contention in the Eastern Conference.</p><h2><b>Heat’s Nikola Jovic on the state of his injuries heading into the season</b></h2><p>Besides the big three in Miami and Rozier, fans are hoping to see big jumps made by their young stars whether it be Jaime Jaquez Jr. heading into his sophomore campaign or Jovic who is entering his third season with the team. He would say Wednesday how there was a chance he was not even going to play for the Serbian national team in the Olympics.</p><p>“I had a little fracture,” Jovic said via The Miami Herald. “It was not just a normal sprained ankle, it was a little fracture that I had. I did the MRIs and everything, at that point they weren’t sure if I was going to make it in the Olympics. But my biggest goal was to just be there and be with the team and help them as much as I can and play.”</p><p>“We flew to Paris and I knew I was not in great shape because I hadn’t played in awhile,” Jovic continued. “My foot maybe wasn’t ready for a big role and we knew all that, and coach understands everything. But he still wanted me to go, he still believed I could help as much as I can and that’s what I did.”</p><h2><b>How the Heat are taking precaution with Jovic</b></h2><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/olympics-news-heat-fans-will-love-nikola-jovics-great-injury-update-amid-serbia-run">The young Heat star would provide the initial great news</a> of his injury amidst the run with Serbia as he’s looking to make the next jump with the team. In the second half of last season, Jovic started to see a lot more time in the starting lineup at the four spot next to Adebayo which was a position that saw multiple people play in like Caleb Martin and Haywood Highsmith.</p><p>However, it is likely that Jovic will keep that starting spot going into the 2024-25 season unless there is any setbacks with any injuries he suffered during the offseason. He would further say Wednesday that they are still taking as much precaution with his foot in his offseason work with the team.</p><p>“We’re making sure that my foot is good after every practice because the injury I had is of course not a joke and we really don’t want any new problems with it,” Jovic said. “So during training camp, I wouldn’t say I’m going to sit down or anything, but of course you just want to make sure that everything is good. If something starts hurting by any chance, I’ll probably need to step away. However, he provides some positive news as he spoke to the media during Tuesday’s Jr. Heat basketball camp where he talked about his status regarding next season.</p><p>To put it simply, Rozier has been cleared to do any activities pertaining to preparation for the upcoming season as he looks to play in his first full season in Miami after being dealt at the trade deadline in February. He would say that he is “feeling great” and <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article289869199.html" rel="noopener">“cleared to play”</a> according to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald.</p><p>“Doing great, feeling great. I’m cleared to play,” Rozier said to reporters during a Tuesday appearance to interact and take photos with young campers at Jr. Heat Basketball Camp at Cooper City High School. “I’ve been on the court. Shout out to the guys on the Miami Heat in getting me right. I’ve been lifting and doing everything else that I need to do. So I feel great.”</p><h2><b>Rozier on missing the last 11 games for the Heat last season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Terry-Rozier-during-a-Heat-game-on-April-5-2024.jpg"><figcaption>Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Rozier had dealt with a neck injury that at first was thought to not keep the 30-year old star out for a significant amount of time, but it would end up being a season-ending blow as his last game was on April 7 against the Indiana Pacers. The injury would further be labeled as “neck spasms” which he even had regrets on playing in that previous game against the Pacers, a time he said “sucks” since the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-haywood-highsmith-11-million-contract-caleb-martin-departure">Heat brought him</a> in to be a “big help for the playoffs.”</p><p>“Obviously we all know why I came here, to be a big help for the playoffs and just to try to get this team some life,” Rozier said Tuesday. “It just sucks that I couldn’t play in the most important part of the season, and I had to watch the guys that I go to war with. So it was tough. … It was just non-stop thinking about me just wishing I was out there with my guys. That’s why I’m glad that I’m cleared and everything else will take care of itself when the time comes.”</p><h2><b>Rozier on what his potential timeline would have been last season</b></h2><p>Rozier would emphasize that there was “no fear” of his basketball career being in jeopardy, but the worst part was not being out there when he started to really find his groove and building chemistry with the likes of Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro. He would reveal that if the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-alec-burks-reveals-real-reason-he-picked-miami-in-free-agency">Heat found a way to beat the eventual</a> champion Celtics, he “would have played in the second round.”</p><p>“It was tough, it was tough just to look at myself in a neck brace,” Rozier said. “… It was just a mutual agreement with me and the Heat that I wasn’t feeling the best and I wasn’t super comfortable. So we definitely sat it out, waited it out.</p><p>“I think that I would have played in the second round [of the playoffs] if we would have made it, but obviously that didn’t happen,” Rozier continued. “But, like I said, the most important thing is I’m feeling better now and I’m in the facility every day just getting better and I’ll be ready for next season when training camp starts.”</p><h2><b>Rozier on solidifying chemistry on Heat</b></h2><p>There was no doubt a process for Rozier who was one of the main options on the Charlotte Hornets, but had to be complementary to the players mentioned before. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-why-kevin-love-had-no-doubt-about-re-signing-with-miami">The Heat liked what</a> they saw as he averaged 16.4 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from deep in 31 contests.</p><p>“Definitely just keep building that relationship with Bam, keep building that relationship with Tyler, and keep building that relationship with Jimmy,” Rozier said. “Everything else will take care of itself. Spending time with each other, and I’m not talking so much off the court, but when we get back on the court together in training camp and stuff like that. I think things will start clicking. We’re learning one another. Like I said, we didn’t get any time with each other last year. I make no excuses at all, but I think we’re all excited.”</p><h2><b>Rozier says Heat want to “run it back with our same team”</b></h2><p>If there is one thing for sure, Rozier wants to come back stronger and prove the doubters wrong as he heads into his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-bam-adebayos-message-miami-contract-extension">first full season with Miami.</a> He would even says that the team wants “to run it back with our same team” for next season.</p><p>“I think the fans are bored right now, and they want to put as many scenarios as they can for us,” Rozier said. “But at the end of the day, we want to run it back with our same team, and we want to show the fans what we can bring to Miami. Obviously last year was tough on us, all of it as a whole. But we’re looking to get out there and impact, and make an impact all together.”</p><p>“I think everybody got kind of a sour taste,” Rozier continued. “I think everybody wants to prove people wrong, I think everybody is ruling us out and doubting us, which is fine. But I think coming back to training camp, I think we have the right mindset that we want to prove people wrong. He did miss time mostly from a groin injury, but this time around, it is being listed as a “right hip flexor strain” which prompted the UCLA product to speak to then media and recount how he knew he was injured.</p><p>“I just felt something, felt something give in the hip, and we’ll take it day by day as of now,” Jaquez said. “It was really just my hip, my right hip. I felt something give in the beginning in the third quarter going up for a rebound. They’ve been without Jimmy Butler and Terry Rozier and it sounds like they’ll be without another key player on the roster for Game 3.</p><p>Reports indicate that veteran guard, Delon Wright, <a href="https://twitter.com/ChrisBHaynes/status/1784282567543230714" rel="noopener">is officially ruled out</a>, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report. However, Wright is not suffering from an injury and is instead dealing with a family issue.</p><p>“Miami Heat guard Delon Wright (personal family matter) will not play tonight in Game 3 against the Boston Celtics.”</p><p>Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious and everything is okay with Delon Wright and his family. The fact he’s missing a playoff game must mean it’s important but it’s not currently known what the potential family matter is.</p><p>As for the Heat, their roster is simply dwindling at the worst possible time of the NBA season. The Celtics are a powerhouse and aim to finally win a championship in over a decade. But if anyone is going to get the best out of this Miami team, it’s Erik Spoelstra.</p><p>Boston ran away with it in Game 1 only for the Heat to fight back and steal Game 2. Miami now has home-court advantage thanks to that win with the next two games being in Miami. Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, and Caleb Martin stepped up big time with Jimmy Butler and Terry Rozier each dealing with an injury.</p><p>With that said, it’ll be interesting to see how the lineup looks without Delon Wright. He played 20 minutes during Game 2 and recorded five points, four rebounds, and one assist. Wright isn’t a star player but he’s been playing well as a rotational asset in the Heat lineup. He routinely gets the best out of his players and there’s no question he’s one of the best coaches in the NBA.</p><p>With that said, the number of injuries is hard to deal with. Another big game from Adebayo will go a long way but he can’t do it by himself. Tyler Herro stepped up in Game 2 and he needs to remain consistent. Miami is good because they play excellent team ball. Jaime Jaquez Jr. has been consistent throughout most of his rookie season and Caleb Martin must have another big game. However, Love said at shoot-around Wednesday that the arm and the ankle are “not an issue” is “ready to go.”</p><p>“Arm’s not an issue, ankle’s not an issue,” Love said. “I’m ready to go. So turn the page on the regular season and now we’ve got some work to do.”</p><p>When questioned why Love did not return to the game against the Toronto Raptors, he mentioned how the lead was already out of hand in Miami’s favor. He’s ready to go,” Spoelstra said. “I don’t think even if it goes triple overtime that we’re gonna play him 40 minutes tonight, but he can give us minutes tonight, there’s not a restriction. Heat stars Terry Rozier and Caleb Martin talk about the key aspect of that culture which is their rough and tough defense.</p><p>Currently, Miami’s defense is ranked fifth in efficiency in the entire NBA which was not always the case as during their seven-game losing skid earlier in the year, they were middling at 13th. However, they have shown a different energy in the home stretch of the season, especially in the Heat’s win over the Knicks Tuesday <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-terry-roziers-monster-game-vs-knicks-prompts-strong-erik-spoelstra-reminder">as Rozier said their focus</a> on defense is the team’s “DNA.”</p><p>“That’s just our DNA,” Rozier said. “We’re trying to emphasize no matter if the ball is going in or not, we got to get stops on the other end.”</p><p>In that specific game, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-bam-adebayo-erik-spoelstra-reveal-secret-to-guarding-jalen-brunson">Miami held superstar Jalen Brunson to just</a> six points at halftime and controlled most of that game until it got very close in the final period until Rozier saved the day as he scored 34 points. The former Charlotte Hornets star said after the game that the goal is to make “it tough on our opponents.”</p><p>“When you get stops, it creates easier points on offense,” Rozier said. “You can get out and run and stuff like that. We understand that. Miami star and known “X Factor” Caleb Martin even said that it has been a <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article287332940.html" rel="noopener">“goal to get to top five and stay top five”</a> according to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald.</p><p>“It’s been a goal all season to get to top five and stay top five,” Martin said. “So it’s good that it’s starting to come around at the right time. I think that we always understand when it really comes down to it, that’s our ticket to winning the game, whether that’s in the playoffs or getting in a position to where we don’t have to worry about the play-in.”</p><h2><b>Martin talks defensive lineup being used to close out games for Heat</b></h2><p>When focusing on defense, it was a dead giveaway with the Heat’s lineup to close out the game against the Knicks as it consisted of Terry Rozier, Caleb Martin, Jimmy Butler, Haywood Highsmith and Bam Adebayo. When talking about that lineup, Martin said that an opposing team has “to pick your poison.”</p><p>“There’s not a ton of advantage there with any guy you’re trying to go at,” Martin said. “Just knowing who you have behind you and who’s on the back side, a lot of switchable guys, it’s definitely tough to find a matchup that you want. You just kind of got to pick your poison, especially when we’re locked in together. Going into the postseason, they are especially built for the playoffs as defense becomes an aspect that separates the great teams from the good teams as Martin even admitted that is how they are “going to have to win.”</p><p>“That’s the way we’re going to have to win,” Martin said. “I think we’re understanding that more.”</p><h2><b>Bam Adebayo talks about “pre-playoffs” helping Miami</b></h2><p>Defense will especially be mandatory when facing a team like the Philadelphia 76ers Thursday night who also has a returning superstar in Joel Embiid. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-bam-adebayo-teases-great-pre-playoffs-showdown-vs-joel-embiid-76ers">Heat star Bam Adebayo said after</a> the win to the Knicks that the matchup will be a “great game.”</p><p>“It’s going to be a great game, atmosphere is going to be great,” Adebayo said. “We’re going to go out there and play basketball and see where the chips play.”</p><p>“It don’t do nothing, but help us for the playoffs,” Adebayo continued. “Helps us really lock in before we get there, it’s a good pre-playoffs for us as you can say.”</p><p>With seven games left in the season, it is vital that the Heat need to continue to rack up wins, especially against the 76ers Thursday and the Indiana Pacers Sunday as those are the two teams they’re surrounded by in the standings. While it was another collective effort from Miami, they were led by Terry Rozier who had his best game in a Heat uniform since he was traded from the Charlotte Hornets before the deadline as himself and head coach Erik Spoelstra talk about his dynamite performance.</p><p>Rozier has had <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-lebron-james-drops-truth-bomb-on-st-2011-nba-finals-with-heat-lowest-point-of-career">exceptional nights with the Heat before</a>, but none like this where he was efficient, explosive, and took over the whole game. He even said after the game that he’s heard from his <a href="https://twitter.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1775362739709288658" rel="noopener">peers that he needs to be aggressive</a> and be himself.</p><p>“My teammates are super supportive always,” Rozier said. “And that’s why I always give them the credit my coaches and my teammates just allow me to be me and making sure I understand that I can go out there and be myself and things will work out. In talking about playing in games that matter beyond the regular season, Rozier said it <a href="https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2024/04/01/heats-spoelstra-takes-no-solace-from-last-seasons-play-in-success-were-going-for-it/" rel="noopener">“means a lot”</a> according to Ira Winderman of The Sun Sentinel.</p><p>“It’s great,” Rozier said about being in the playoff race for the first time in a while. “You know how my last four years went. So just to be in this position, to be competing and to be in an important spot, it means a lot.”</p><p>This is not the first time <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/brawl-stars-rare-brawlers-tier-list">Rozier has been blunt in mentioning</a> his time with the Hornets in their lack of playing winning basketball, especially towards the end of the season. Back in late January of this year, he mentioned how with Charlotte, they are “kind of used to losing” and saying it’s <a href="https://twitter.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1752412956674122089?s=20" rel="noopener">“kind of the DNA”</a> compared to Miami where they compete for championships.</p><p>“It’s the total opposite. Charlotte, you kind of used to losing, it’s kind of the DNA. And it sucks to say that because how much of a competitor I am, but over here it is the total opposite, nobody wants to lose,” Rozier said on January 30. “I think today was super helpful with the video and us talking to one another. Hopefully tomorrow we can turn things around. Miami needed an explosive scorer at the point guard position that can also facilitate the ball, which is what Rozier has done, but since joining the team, there’s no doubt it’s been a process.</p><p>As Rozier was arguably the main focus with the Hornets along with LaMelo Ball, he was averaging over 20 points per game when they are three <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-dream-seeding-scenario-matchup-2024-nba-playoffs">other players on the Heat</a> like Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, and Bam Adebayo that do the same. Sacrifices needed to be made by Rozier as he even mentioned he’ll do what he has to do to win, even Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra expressed he’s “getting a lot more comfortable.”</p><p>“Terry is getting a lot more comfortable,” Spoelstra said. “He really is pure, he wants to help, he wants to contribute, he wants to make things better and easier with the group. He’s really been competing defensively on the ball. That’s really helped us in both our man and our zone. Then offensively, it’s just taken a little bit of time.”</p><h2><b>Rozier going through hard transition mid-season after trade to Miami</b></h2><p>Rozier is coming off of a huge performance in the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-miami-gets-huge-duncan-robinson-injury-update-ahead-of-wizards-clash">Heat’s last win against the Washington</a> Wizards Sunday where he scored 27 points to go along with four steals, four rebounds, and two assists. Spoelstra added on by saying that Rozier had to go through a hard transition, but has since become in terms of how Miami wants their team to run.</p><p>“When you’re thinking of others so much and then you’re hearing it that you also have to be you, that’s easier said than done when you’re coming to a team after mid-season,” Spoelstra said per The Sun Sentinel. “But it’s really been good to see him comfortable and that’s allowed him to be aggressive within the context of how we want to do things.”</p><p>In a Heat uniform, Rozier has been averaging 16.1 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game in 27 games. After the game, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra and teammate Terry Rozier spoke about Adebayo’s new weapon in his already vast arsenal.</p><p>Adebayo has made at least one three-pointer in seven of the last eight games and it has been evident that specific aspect has been a focus for the star big-man. Against the Blazers, he made two of his three attempts from beyond the arch and while <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-has-passionate-take-on-60-point-blazers-thrashing">Spoelstra mentioned that while</a> defenses might not adapt this season, he says Adebayo developing in that aspect would <a href="https://twitter.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1774121572262916253" rel="noopener">“be a cool thing to explore.”</a></p><p>“Probably not this year…I think it’d be a cool thing to explore. For sure. I think it’ll take some time before schemes change from other teams,” Spoelstra said. “Teams are always going to, right now play off of them just because of all the other things that he can create, the passing ends, the drives, the aggressiveness, all that stuff, but we’re probably gonna look back on this four or five years from now and not even remember that these were those kinds of discussions. Rozier has noticed the uptick in three-point shots for Adebayo and before humorously saying the big-man taking away his attempts, he expressed the team wants him to shoot that shot more.</p><p>“Taking away my attempts, I’m just playing,” Rozier joked. “We all want him to shoot it, he’s shooting it super confident and you know I think is only gonna keep getting better and make guys have to play him honestly, be even tougher to guard put him out there so I think it’s gonna be a huge help our offense.”</p><p>With the continuous absence of stars Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson who runs a lot of actions and plays with Adebayo, Rozier has filled into that role quite seamlessly. He said after the win to the Blazers that he’s glad a player like <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-what-kevin-loves-injury-return-means-for-miami-as-playoffs-near">Adebayo is leading the Heat and described him</a> as a player you want to go “to war with you every night.”</p><p>“He’s our team captain, he’s given 100% energy and effort every night and we’ve got a guy that you look to the right, you look to the left is going to war with you every night,” Rozier said. “They just make you feel good and we all feed off to him. So we are glad to have a guy like that that’s leading us.”</p><h2><b>Spoelstra talks Adebayo being one assist shy of a triple-double</b></h2><p>Adebayo himself had a great game against the Blazers besides the made three-pointers, but possibly bittersweet as he was one assist shy of a triple-double as he scored 23 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists. While Adebayo would sit for a good portion of the second half since the game got out of hand, he wouldn’t get an opportunity to get that one last assist.</p><p>However, Spoelstra admitted after the game to the media that they ran a play that would have newcomer Patty Mills free for an open look, but it wasn’t successful. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-terry-rozier-cites-dwyane-wade-as-main-reason-for-miami-trade">The Heat head coach joked about</a> it saying that Mills owes Adebayo “a lunch or coffee or bottle of wine,” but at the end of the day said that <a href="https://twitter.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1773909061865525401" rel="noopener">“we’re not playing for stats.”</a></p><p>“Look,” Spoelstra said, “I don’t want to be a total buzzkill out there. I want the guys to have fun. And that was a fun moment. I think Patty’s going to owe him a lunch or a coffee or bottle of wine or something. Because we tried to run one action for it. I thought we got a good clean look at it. He actually had a second play. I told him you get one crack at it. And I don’t think Patty finished his cut and Bam led him. It would have been a tough layup, but there was another opportunity for that.</p><p>“But ultimately, look, we’re not playing for stats. At the current moment though, Miami is 40-33 on the season which puts them seventh place in the tightly packed Eastern Conference.</p><p>Every game matters at this point where a loss impedes on their chances to get out of contention for the play-in tournament and obtain a top six seed. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jaime-jaquez-jr-sends-urgent-challenge-to-heat-before-playoffs">Miami has no excuses</a> for their next game which is against the Washington Wizards Sunday where they only have 14 wins on the season as Rozier said he hopes the big win can carry some momentum for their upcoming contest.</p><p>“I mean, every game counts, every game matters,” Rozier said. “So I think we want to win every game here on now. To win big like this, I think it feels good for the group. Everybody feel good. So going into the DC game, we can do the same thing. Hopefully. Besides wanting to join the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/is-heats-jimmy-butler-playing-vs-blazers-latest-injury-update">winning culture of the Heat</a>, there was also another main reason why Miami appealed to him <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article287193215.html" rel="noopener">as it dealt with former</a> basketball player Dwyane Wade according to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald.</p><p>“D-Wade definitely was the main reason,” Rozier said as why Miami was appealing.</p><h2><b>Rozier has idolized Wade since growing up in Ohio</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Terry-Rozier-attempting-to-get-pass-Klay-Thompson-during-the-Heats-loss-to-the-Warriors.jpg"><figcaption>Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>To put it plainly, Wade is Rozier’s favorite basketball player since he grew up in Ohio, a state where he mentioned everybody else was a fan of LeBron James. However, he related more to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-why-bam-adebayo-will-be-extra-dangerous-for-miami-come-playoff-time">Wade’s play style</a> in comparison to James and ever since then “it just stuck with me.”</p><p>“That love started because I grew up in Ohio where everybody was a LeBron fan,” Rozier said. “But I’m not 6-foot-9, so I definitely related more to D-Wade. Just ever since he was at Marquette, just how competitive he was. So I started liking him early and it just stuck with me.”</p><h2><b>Rozier and Wade had a jersey swap in 2019</b></h2><p>Rozier has been open about his fandom for Wade, ever since they swapped jerseys with each other during the latter’s farewell season in a game against the Charlotte Hornets. There was a story told by Wade in 2019 where he mentioned how Rozier texted the legend very early in the morning and asked about the jersey swap.</p><p>“I got a text at 4 in the morning from Terry Rozier,” Wade said in 2019 per The Miami Herald. “He’s like, ‘Yo, I’m going to need that jersey.’ So I go and I look at when we’re playing them, thinking we’re about to play Boston. I’m like, ‘We don’t play y’all till January.’ So he put his request in early and let me know at 4 in the morning to make sure that when we play them, he needed that jersey. We have that kind of relationship.”</p><h2><b>Full circle moment for Rozier and the Heat</b></h2><p>Rozier said he has a room in his home that’s filled with a multitude of jerseys as Wade’s is front and center. The 30-year old <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jaime-jaquez-jr-sends-urgent-challenge-to-heat-before-playoffs">Heat star guard would</a> go on to say that besides Wade being his favorite player, he “modeled” his game after him.</p><p>“He’s my favorite player, he’s one of the main reasons why I play basketball, he’s who I modeled my game after,” Rozier said. “So it was only right that I got his jersey. That’s probably why I texted him two months before we actually played him. It probably just popped in my mind, but I wanted to make sure we got that out the way before anything. I didn’t want to ask him too late. But I’m glad I did and I’m glad my dream came full circle.”</p><p>The former Hornets guard will now look to live up to the standard Wade set for the franchise and be a part of winning as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-drops-truth-bomb-on-tyler-herro-miami-injuries">with the Heat this season</a>, he’s averaging 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and five assists per game while shooting 41 percent from the field.
