According to the latest report from Ira Winderman of The Sun Sentinel, Rozier’s contract could be a catalyst, with the team wanting to add another player since they have space for one more guaranteed contract to reach the maximum number of 15.</p><p>However, there have not been any true conversations as the interest from Rozier doesn’t appear to be present, as there is <a href="https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2025/09/08/heat-in-contact-with-former-first-round-pick-precious-achiuwa-amid-power-void/" rel="noopener">“without any outside options.”</a></p><p>“The Heat also could open such tax space for another player by merely waiving Rozier by the NBA contract guarantee deadline of Jan. 10, when all contracts become guaranteed,” Winderman wrote. “However, if the Heat were to take such a wait-and-see approach with Rozier and the veteran guard were to be injured and sidelined for the season, his full $26.6 million would be guaranteed.”</p><p>“There have been discussions about a Rozier buyout, but those talks have not gained traction, without any outside options for the veteran guard at the moment, as Rozier remains linked to a federal gambling investigation,” Winderman continued.</p><p>It has no doubt been an immensely frustrating development as Rozier has been disappointing on the floor ever since Miami traded a first-round pick and Kyle Lowry before the 2024 trade deadline.</p><h2><b>Heat is still figuring out what to do with Terry Rozier’s contract</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Terry-Rozier-on-March-31-2025-1.jpg"><figcaption>Reggie Hildred-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/nba-rumors-heat-decided-against-terry-rozier-marcus-smart-trade">rumors around Rozier and the Heat will continue,</a> the player himself is also involved in a federal investigation related to sports betting during his time with the Charlotte Hornets, though the NBA had found no wrongdoing before.</p><p>Going into last season, he was to be a main offensive piece in the starting lineup, alongside Tyler Herro in the backcourt, but fell out of the rotation as the season went on. Fischer himself would report that and even say that Miami could not come to an <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/monday-best-the-latest-hottest-and" rel="noopener">“organizational consensus”</a> if that was an upgrade.</p><p>“Miami weighed a Rozier-for-Smart swap but could not reach an organizational consensus on whether such a trade was a clear upgrade,” Fischer wrote.</p><p>Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald would add on to the report, saying that Miami didn’t go through with it <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article311510535.html" rel="noopener">“because of the draft capital”</a> that needed to be involved.</p><p>“Multiple league sources confirmed those trade talks between the Heat and Wizards took place this summer,” Chiang wrote. “While a Rozier-for-Smart swap would have made sense for the Heat because Smart was on a cheaper expiring contract ($21.6 million salary for this upcoming season before agreeing to a buyout with the Wizards) than Rozier’s expiring deal ($26.6 million salary for this upcoming season), a league source indicated the Heat ultimately did not make the trade because of the draft capital it would have needed to attach to Rozier to faciliate such a deal.”</p><p>At any rate, the Heat look to improve after finishing 37-45, which put them 10th in the Eastern Conference, and while the team made it through the play-in tourney, they would be swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.</p><p>Miami starts training camp on Sept. 30 in preparation for the preseason opener on Sept. 4 against the Orlando Magic, and then the start of the regular season is on Oct. 22, facing the same team.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

All 30 bets won, after Rozier, an eight-year veteran with the Hornets at the time, exited 10 minutes into the game, citing a foot issue.”</p><p>The records indicate that “at least six” sportsbooks received suspicious betting activity on Rozier the same day, but none more than the one bettor who placed his wagers at Harrah’s Gulf Coast in Biloxi. While a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstras-monster-bam-adebayo-take-will-fire-up-miami-fans">monster game from Heat star Bam Adebayo</a> and others kept the game with the No. 1 seed in the East close and even had a lead, Rozier’s offensive performance didn’t help as the Cavs made a comeback to win their 12th straight.</p><h2><b>Heat’s Erik Spoelstra doesn’t want Terry Rozier to be targeted </b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Terry-Rozier-on-March-5-2025.jpg"><figcaption>Ken Blaze-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra played Rozier for 40 minutes, which was a team-high as the team was missing their leading scorer in Tyler Herro. Rozier finished the game with 12 points on three for 14 shooting from the field, only making one of his eight attempts from deep, and didn’t make any of his eight shooting attempts in the entire second half.</p><p>When asked before Friday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves about the thought process of playing Rozier when he was struggling heavily in the second half, Spoelstra downplayed the decision, saying he doesn’t <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1898155450035581368" rel="noopener">“want Terry to be a target right now.”</a></p><p>“I don’t want Terry to be a target right now, that’s easy,” Spoelstra said. “I mean, this is the thing, when we’re playing all these tight games and really close, competitive games, and this is what I remind the locker room, we have to stay so laser focused into the process and not just the result. Everybody just watches the end result. Any one of these games, if we finish it off and a lot of this narrative, a lot of the dialogue, it just quiets on its own. And that’s the lesson. Rozier began the season in the starting lineup and had a few good outings before getting on a shooting slump and eventually relegated to the bench.</p><p>It got to the point where Spoelstra benched Rozier for two straight games until he was put back into rotation, especially recently <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstras-fun-silver-lining-for-miami-as-injury-woes-return">with the Heat’s injuries piling up.</a> Spoelstra would speak more on how Rozier was “instrumental” in the team coming back against Cleveland.</p><p>“The thing the other night, and this is what’s happened several times and it is tough and I’m not going to go into all of it, there’s not enough time, but we’re on a 16-5 run. It’s easy for anybody to say, ‘Make a change right then.’ That’s really not what you’re thinking of making a change, they call a time out, we’re up seven. It’s easy to say afterwards when it’s a result-based deal, ‘Well, he should have made a change.'”</p><p>“Then Davion was at the table at five, and then the game just kept on going. But I’m not going to get into all that,” Spoelstra continued. “You know, Terry, it was on the flip side, was really instrumental, him and H [Haywood Highsmith] were dynamic in our zone defense, and that group got us to a seven point lead down five or whatever, it was up to seven, it just felt like we had the momentum to push to a win, and we have to live with all the noise and the second guessing afterwards, that’s part of the deal.”</p><p>Miami is 28-31 which puts them seventh in the Eastern Conference before Friday’s game against Minnesota.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The report was part of a federal investigation into potential betting irregularities, the same probe that resulted in the lifetime ban of Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter. But we do have to recognize when there are tangible improvements, and we are seeing some of those. We have to work for our breakthrough.”</p><p>So far this season, Rozier has been averaging 12.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 40.4 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from three-point range.</p><h2><b>Heat’s Erik Spoelstra does see aspects to ‘build on’</b></h2><p>However, there are many flaws with the team that go beyond Rozier as the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-has-defiant-take-after-blowing-another-double-digit-lead-in-loss-to-bucks">Heat have suffered late-game collapses</a> where they build up double-digit leads, all for it to be erased by the end. Still, Spoelstra believes they can “build on” their “collective spirit” that has been shown.</p><p>“A lot of these games, some of the games were before the trade. Some of the games guys were out,” Spoelstra said. “So it doesn’t really matter. It’s just about doing what’s necessary to get a win.</p><p>“It’s hard to win in this league. I appreciate that. I really appreciate that this season. You have to fight and have a desperate collective energy that’s consistent all the way through, and there has to be a collective spirit, which our group has.”</p><p>“That’s the part I think we can build on. There’s a spirit in our locker room,” Spoelstra continued. “That usually indicates that things are going to start going in your direction.</p><p>“It doesn’t guarantee anything because it still is decided in between those four lines. But there are some intangibles in this locker room. Guys care about each other. They want to play well for each other. Wake up, get the time I need. But you know, I’m happy to be back and get another crack at it, make this last push. So, you know, this is an exciting time of the year for me. Add on the disappointment with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/heat-news-terry-rozier-breaks-silence-after-federal-betting-investigation">Rozier in a federal investigation connected to sports betting</a>, though the <a href="https://x.com/jareddiamond/status/1885018058202239471" rel="noopener">NBA found no wrong-doing</a>, it’s another hurdle for the 30-year-old star to jump over, though he mentioned he can “appreciate the struggle.”</p><p>“I think it’s just going to make when everything settles in and have a successful season, I think I can appreciate the struggle even more,” Rozier said. “So it’s part of it, not I’m not even worried about it. I move on from it. Don’t put your hands on your face,” Adebayo said. “Basically the things you teach kids, as you can see, always applies to not only kids but adults, as well.”</p><p>As said before, Jaquez was the first known player to have the stomach illness during this time and did make his return Wednesday, but didn’t log a single second.</p><p>“He was available,” Spoelstra said. “But his situation is a little bit different than Tyler. He’s been dealing with that for several days. Tyler dealt with it for 36 hours. Could Jaime have been out there? Possibly. But he hasn’t done anything really physically for several days.”</p><p>Illness or not, the team has a lot of work to do after losing another double-digit lead going into the fourth quarter where they scored a measly eight points leading to the loss.</p><p>“It’s one of those things, man, <a href="https://x.com/HeatvsHaters/status/1890086443340689663" rel="noopener">it’s a lesson,”</a> Adebayo said. “But how many times we got to keep learning this lesson? After the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-jimmy-butler-heat-trade">Heat traded Jimmy Butler in a multi-team deal</a>, that was the end of a long battle. Butler and the Heat’s front office engaged in a grueling back and forth. It was the topic of nearly every media availability.</p><p>As a result, it left a ripple effect on the rest of the team. He was in and out of the lineup and made his feelings known. It’s been hard for a basketball team to concentrate when outside affairs are disrupting play. A 9-point fourth quarter signaled that mediocre play Rozier was talking about.</p><p>“Tonight was devastating,” Rozier said Friday after Miami shot 2 for 21 in the fourth quarter and blew a six-point lead to start the fourth. “We said some things after the game, and I feel it will better us. We obviously have got to turn things around right now. That’s why we’re having these tough conversations.”</p><h2><b>Terry Rozier feels the Heat’s angst</b></h2><p>Again, the drama surrounding Butler made life difficult for everyone. Not to mention, it was an ongoing one between Pat Riley and the disgruntled superstar. Reports even came out that some of <a href="https://theplayoffs.news/en/miami-heat-stars-learn-about-teammate-jimmy-butlers-trade-via-fan-in-stands-during-76ers-clash/" rel="noopener">Miami’s players were sick of playing with Butler</a>. It seemed that they wanted to countdown the days until he was traded.</p><p>However, the Heat acquired Andrew Wiggins in that trade. He’s a proven veteran who brings a 2-way style to South Beach. Plus, he was one of the key reasons that the Golden State Warriors won the 2022 NBA title. Even with the move, the tension is still there.</p><p>Despite a weaker Eastern Conference, the top teams in the conference are the top teams. The Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, and New York Knicks are among those. Still, head coach Erik Spoelstra finds a way to beat the top teams every year. This year could be no different.</p><p>With a final 32 games remaining, they will embrace playoff basketball and likely get their guys ready for it. Now, three college basketball programs are allegedly involved in the investigation.</p><p>Betting accounts connected to the gambling ring under investigation <a href="https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/43680104/sources-gambling-ring-tied-college-basketball-games" rel="noopener">bet on games</a> involving North Carolina A&amp;T, Eastern Michigan and Mississippi Valley State this season, according to ESPN’s David Purdum.</p><p>These bets came from the same accounts in the same gambling ring where there was unusual gambling activity on Porter and Rozier in the past, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-news-jontay-porter-charged-federal-felony-gambling-ban">Porter has admitted to altering his performance</a> during NBA games because of the gambling ring. Temple is another college basketball program that has been tied to this gambling investigation in the past.</p><p>The NCAA released a statement on the matter, per ESPN.</p><p>“The NCAA takes sports betting very seriously and is committed to the protection of student-athlete well-being and the integrity of competition,” the statement read, per Purdum. “The Association works with integrity monitoring services, state regulators and other stakeholders to conduct appropriate due diligence whenever suspicious reports are received. Due to confidentiality rules put in place by NCAA member schools, the NCAA will not comment on current or potential investigations.”</p><p>The gambling ring is tied to two Eastern Michigan basketball games — a Dec. 21 game against Wright State and a Jan. 16 clash with Central Michigan — and a Jan. 9 tilt between North Carolina A&amp;T and Delaware State.</p><p>The NBA had been investigating a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-terry-roziers-2023-hornets-game-part-of-federal-betting-investigation">2023 game that Rozier was involved in</a> that may have been tied to this gambling ring, but the league has since cleared his name, citing no evidence of any wrongdoing. However, the jury is still out on some of these college games.</p><p>After these three college teams were named in the investigation, it appears that this gambling ring may run much deeper than initially thought when Porter’s case first went public.
