He has been teammates with his brother Giannis since 2019, being a part of the 2021 championship squad.</p><p>The veteran forward often comes off the bench as part of the reserve units, especially near the end of games when the result is clear. This game against the Nets was one of those times as he took part on the hardwood to close out the night.</p><p>In the final minute of the game, Thanasis drove to the paint as he leapt in the air and <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1994973978679787622" rel="noopener">threw down the left-handed poster dunk</a>. It wasn’t until the second and third periods where the Bucks boomed by outscoring Brooklyn 67-41 in that frame. They took full control of the game and never looked back with their display in these quarters.</p><p>Rebounding, ball movement and turnovers made the difference in this matchup. The Bucks prevailed in all three categories by securing 43 rebounds, creating 31 assists and limiting their turnovers to just 14. It wasn’t the same for the Nets as they grabbed 31 rebounds, dished out 23 assists and turned the ball over 20 times.</p><p>Seven players scored in double-digits for Milwaukee in the win, including Giannis. He finished with a stat line of 29 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. He shot 12-of-15 from the field, including 1-0f-2 from beyond the arc, and 4-of-8 from the free-throw line. AJ Green came next with 15 points and five assists, Kevin Porter Jr. had 13 points and six assists, while Bobby Portis put up 13 points and six rebounds. Meanwhile, Kyle Kuzma had 11 points while Myles Turner and Ryan Rollins provided 10 points each.</p><p>Milwaukee improved to a 9-12 record on the season, holding the 11th spot of the Eastern Conference standings. They are 2.5 games above the Charlotte Hornets and 4.5 games above the Indiana Pacers while trailing the Chicago Bulls by one game and Boston Celtics by two games.</p><p>The Bucks will look forward to their next matchup, being on the road. The older Antetokounmpo brother is finally back in the NBA, with the Bucks paving the way for his return after he missed the entirety of the 2024-25 season with a torn Achilles.</p><p>At this point, the Bucks’ decision to bring Thanasis back is understandable, and is a no-brainer, in fact. Giannis’ future is up in the air, and everything Milwaukee could do to convince him to stay, they must do so without even thinking about it twice. But there appears to be more to the Bucks’ decision to re-sign Thanasis than meets the eye, as according to the 33-year-old forward, <a href="https://www.eurohoops.net/en/nba-news/1862956/thanasis-antetokounmpo-sealed-the-new-deal-with-the-bucks-after-the-game-vs-italy-they-were-excited/" rel="noopener">he impressed them</a> with the way he played in Greece’s two wins to start their journey in the 2025 EuroBasket.</p><p>“They were here after the first game against Italy, and they were excited because I was playing defense. I was doing my job, that’s my role. The important thing is that everyone who returns (after such an injury) with a team, or in a tournament like this, has to prove themselves again. That’s basketball. Whatever you have done so far counts; it’s your resume, but you have to prove it every day. That’s professional sports,” Antetokounmpo said, per Eurohoops.</p><p>Indeed, Thanasis brought his trademark energy whenever Greece put him out on the court. He might not come anywhere close to the dominant force his younger brother is, but make no mistake about it, he adds value to the Bucks beyond having the Antetokounmpo surname.</p><h2><b>Bucks do everything in their power to convince Giannis to stay</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Bucks-forward-Giannis-Antetokounmpo-34-celebrated-with-Bucks-forward-Thanasis-Antetokounmpo.jpg"><figcaption>© Geoff Burke-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Bucks’ future might be looking bleak, but as long as Giannis is on the roster, there is hope for them. The older Antetokounmpo brother took a hiatus last season after he tore his Achilles, but the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/milwaukee-bucks/bucks-news-bucks-news-giannis-staying-milwaukee-brother-signs-1-year-contract">Bucks have reunited the two</a> — which means that Giannis should still be on the Bucks roster for the foreseeable future.</p><p>Of course, Thanasis is not going to be much more than a 13th man and a towel-waver for a Bucks team with playoff aspirations. Nevertheless, he’s been a beloved member of the locker room for the entirety of his career and he gives the Bucks some Giannis assurance. And they couldn’t be more happier that he’s back on the roster, if <a href="https://x.com/Bucks/status/1962206595615433049" rel="noopener">their reply</a> to Thanasis’ tweet is any indication.</p><p>“LET’S GO,” the Bucks’ official account on X posted as a response to Thanasis’ tweet.</p><p>It was in May 2024 when <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/milwaukee-bucks/bucks-thanasis-antetokounmpo-diagnosed-with-brutal-injury-after-first-round-exit-vs-pacers">Thanasis tore his Achilles</a> during a workout. A torn Achilles tendon almost always means the entire year off, and surely enough, Antetokounmpo missed the entirety of the 2024-25 campaign, with the Bucks choosing not to re-sign him while he rehabbed to make better use of the roster spot.</p><p>But with Giannis’ future in Milwaukee in doubt, the Bucks certainly felt as though they had to do whatever it takes to appease their franchise cornerstone, and signing Thanasis seems to be a good way to do just that. Thanasis has been taken care of by the Bucks for so long, and this should certainly help Giannis see that the franchise just wants nothing but the best for him and his family.</p><p>Only time will tell, however, if Thanasis’ presence on the roster will make Giannis stick around for the Bucks for the long haul.</p><h2><b>Thanasis Antetokounmpo is the Bucks’ ultimate Giannis assurance</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thanasis.jpg"><figcaption>Michael McLoone-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The entire world knows that the main reason Thanasis is a member of the Bucks roster right now is to show Giannis just how committed they are to him. He is the very definition of a garbage-time player, and it’s unlikely at all for that to change considering that he’s coming off an Achilles tear.</p><p>Some may argue that signing Thanasis is nothing other than a waste of a roster spot for the Bucks. In adding Durant, the Rockets will have a proven superstar with loads of experience on the grand stage.</p><p>With this, former Milwaukee Bucks forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo <a href="https://x.com/ThanalysisShow/status/1943127805396476307">offered a bold statement</a> about the two-time Finals MVP joining H-Town.</p><p>“I think this might be the best team he’s ever been traded to. Because he didn’t get traded to Golden State, he actually signed with them, correct?” said Antetokounmpo on his podcast.</p><p>Antetokounmpo clarified his strong assessment of the Rockets’ star and the team’s that he has been on in his career.</p><p>“Let me rephrase this. Not the best team he’s ever been on because he had Golden State, and then he had the Brooklyn Nets. The Brooklyn Nets were different, right? After spending the last five years with the team, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-thanasis-antetokounmpo-diagnosed-with-brutal-injury-after-first-round-exit-vs-pacers">Thanasis Antetokounmpo will likely miss the entire 2024-2025 season</a> but is still a name the Bucks are considering bringing back.</p><p>Antetokounmpo is being contemplated by general manager Jon Horst <a href="https://x.com/KeithSmithNBA/status/1847636322904604901" rel="noopener">due to his locker room presence</a>, per NBA reporter Keith Smith. Milwaukee is currently over the roster limit but Smith added that they are considering trading third-year guard MarJon Beauchamp to clear up space. The Bucks are reportedly examining the market for a perimeter defender if they decide against bringing back Antetokounmpo.</p><p>Antetokounmpo’s Achilles injury was suffered in practice at the end of the 2023-2024 season. Due to his condition, the 32-year-old was unable to join his brothers on the Greece national team during the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.</p><p>Throughout his six-year career in the NBA, Antetokounmpo has never averaged more than 3.6 points per game in a single season. That tally came in the 2021-2022 season when he also recorded a career-high 9.9 minutes per game and six starts. As of Oct. 19, the team is currently one player over the league maximum of 18 players, a limit that includes three on two-way contracts.</p><p>With 19 players currently on the Bucks’ offseason roster, Milwaukee still needs to clear at least one name before opening night. If the team decides to welcome Antetokounmpo back into its organization, two current players would need to either get traded or released.</p><p>The Bucks have not given any indication on who they plan on releasing but Beauchamp has become an obvious candidate along with Anzejs Pasecniks, Liam Robbins and Ryan Rollins. Pasecniks and Rollins are the Bucks’ current two-way player along with third-year guard Stanley Umude. I go like what, they would’ve picked me. Mind you I have no paper work, nothing, I didn’t do nothing you have to submit everything. I’m like man, Giannis get drafted first round, that year, same year.”</p><h2><b>Thanasis defends himself amidst nepotism claims</b></h2><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-best-options-for-no-23-pick-in-2024-nba-draft">Antetokounmpo would then be</a> drafted the year after his brother with the 51st overall pick to the New York Knicks. However, he was then asked about basketball analyst and former player Charles Barkley saying that he will always have a job when his sibling is on the team since the duo of brothers are on the Bucks. The lesser known brother though would take that as a “compliment,” also saying that besides having a great attitude, “you’ve got to bring something to the table.”</p><p>“That’s a compliment, because that means I’m a good person. Nobody gives you nothing if they don’t like you first of all, that’s one thing,” Antetokounmpo said on “The Bootleg Kev” show. “And you’ve got to bring something to the table, but I actually like Charles Barkley and I actually like Shaq. To make matters worse, Giannis’ brother Thanasis Antetokounmpo has been hit with a shocking Achilles injury after the Bucks’ postseason run.</p><h2><b>Thanasis Antetokounmpo gets devasting injury diagnosis</b></h2><p>Forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo <a href="https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1788330712833106072" rel="noopener">has sustained a torn</a> Achilles tendon and will undergo surgery, Shams Charania reports. Antetokounmpo did not see much time on the floor during the Pacers series or the regular season, yet, his injury is devastating. Hopefully, he will have a speedy and efficient recovery process.</p><p>Thanasis Antetokounmpo appeared in 34 regular season games for the Bucks and only played 4.6 minutes per contest. Antetokounmpo’s on-the-court production is not eye-popping, but he offers great support to his younger brother Giannis and the rest of the Bucks squad.</p><p>Giannis Antetokounmpo had big plans for the Bucks in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, but a late regular season calf strain prevented him from playing. Antetokounmpo was playing some of the best basketball of his career in 2023-24. The 29-year-old averaged 30.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks.</p><p>Unfortunately, the NBA world did not get to see what the star forward could do in the postseason with Damian Lillard. The Portland Trail Blazers traded Lillard to Milwaukee shortly before the start of the regular season. As a result, the Bucks’ championship odds increased. However, things did not come to fruition in 2024.</p><p>Lillard suffered an Achilles injury that caused him to miss some of the Pacers series. Before that, he achieved stout regular-season production. Lillard averaged 24.4 points, 7.0 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game.</p><p>Ironically, Lillard and the Antetokounmpo brothers all suffered serious lower leg ailments. Hopefully, everyone can recover during the offseason and come back ready to reload in 2024-25.</p><h2><b>Bucks look to return strong for 2024-25</b></h2><p>Milwaukee was not pleased with their first-round exit in the 2024 NBA Playoffs. Frustrations boiled over in their Game 6 loss to the Pacers when Patrick Beverley got into a heated altercation with a fan. Beverley threw the game ball at a fan <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-patrick-beverley-apology-game-6-antics">behind the Bucks bench</a>, inadvertently striking her in the head.</p><p>He then called for the ball back and threw it at another fan before being held back by his teammates. The veteran guard faced massive backlash for the move and broke the silence shortly afterward.</p><p>“Unfortunate situation that should have never happened,” Beverley said. “What I did was bad, and that should have never happened. I have to be better and I will be better. That should have never happened. Regardless of what was said, that should have never happened, simple as that.”</p><p>Beverley was caught in more controversy when he refused an interview with an ESPN reporter due to her not being subscribed to his podcast. The veteran guard will be sure to clean up his interactions. The Bucks were ahead comfortably at the half, 75-38 and the Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla decided to pull his starters by the start of the third quarter. Thanasis Antetokounmpo finished with six points, one rebound, one assist, one blocked shot and four fouls in nine minutes.</p><p>The Bucks improved to 26-12 with the win and moved to within three games of the Celtics for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. If there ever was a game the Bucks can build off of to carry momentum forward, it’s this one.</p><p>As for Thanasis Antetokoumpo, this was only his 15th appearance of the season and second since January began. He’s spent the last five seasons with the Bucks alongside his brother Giannis. A lot has factored into this organization’s success and the individual success of Giannis, though, as Thanasis Antetokounmpo has been a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-giannis-brother-thanasis-antetokounmpo-message-after-nba-playoffs-elimination" rel="noopener">source of leadership</a> and inspiration behind the scenes.</p><p>Deciding to join the Bucks and play alongside his brother in 2019, Thanasis has spent the last four seasons in Milwaukee and he was a member of the 2020-21 team that went on to win the NBA Finals. Although he has not played much through the years, Antetokounmpo has been a great locker room presence for his team. Being an unrestricted free agent this offseason, the 31-year-old forward had a big decision to make about his future in this league, as a path to leaving his brother and Milwaukee presented itself as an option.</p><p>Ultimately, Thanasis decided to sign a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-thanasis-antetokounmpo-giannis-brother-new-contract" rel="noopener">veteran’s minimum contract</a> to stay with the Bucks for one more season, but the New York Knicks were reportedly interested in signing Antetokounmpo. Recently talking with Donatas Urbonas from Basketnews.com, Antetokounmpo opened up about his time with the Bucks and explained why he ultimately chose to <a href="https://basketnews.com/news-193784-thanasis-antetokounmpo-responds-to-his-doubters-and-sets-and-example-for-kids.html" rel="noopener">remain in Milwaukee</a> with his brother instead of pursuing a new opportunity in New York.</p><p>“Obviously, Giannis is my brother, and obviously, I love Milwaukee. I love Milwaukee. But at the same time… I want to play,” Thanasis stated. “I want to play. You always want to play and feel important.”</p><p>Over the last four seasons, Antetokounmpo has averaged just 8.4 minutes per game and he has played 20 or more minutes in only 15 of the 162 total regular season games he’s participate in with Milwaukee. Earning a larger role and being able to prove he is more than Giannis’ brother is something he valued entering free agency this offseason.</p><p>“Ultimately, I sat down with the new coach [Adrian Griffin],” Thanasis continued. “During the free agency, I was off in Greece. But I sat down with the new coach and talked with him. He said he appreciates the way I play, he values my game. You know, every coach has a different opinion of everybody. But when I picked the teams, hearing the coach and everything… I thought this was the place for me.”</p><p>Both Antetokounmpo brothers will be on the Bucks roster entering the 2023-24 season, marking their fifth consecutive year playing alongside one another. However, their future in Milwaukee remains up in the air, as neither player is under contract long-term.</p><p>Thanasis is only under contract for one year and Giannis is only under contract with the team through the 2024-25 season right now, as he owns a player option for the 2025-26 season. The two-time league MVP and 2021 Finals MVP also raised some eyebrows recently with his comments about <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-giannis-antetokounmpo-comments-contract-extension-milwaukee" rel="noopener">not signing an extension</a> with the Bucks this summer.</p><p>There is a level of uncertainty surrounding the Bucks right now, which is why it is critical that they find success during the 2023-24 season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Even without Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, Greece handled their business just fine against Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and the Jordanians.</p><p>Greece, however, still have one Antetokounmpo on the team with Giannis’ brother, Thanasis Antetokounmpo part of the squad. Following their big win over Jordan, Thanasis was asked about his team’s mindset knowing that they’re playing without his brother, who’s undoubtedly the nation’s best player.</p><p>“Just play hard and focus. In one of the most random things to happen in the NBA today, Milwaukee Bucks forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo had a “hit piece” written about him. No, not Giannis, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-giannis-antetokounmpo-mvp-case-a-victim-of-voter-fatigue-per-brook-lopez" rel="noopener">the two-time MVP</a> and star of the team. Instead, a writer took aim at The Greek Freak’s elder brother, questioning whether he deserves a roster spot. Here’s a piece of the article from Gery Woelfel.</p><p>“In the last two weeks, I spoke with three NBA officials. I posed a simple question and sought a simple yes or no response. The question was: Would Thanasis be on any NBA roster, if not for his brother’s exalted stature with the Bucks?”</p><p>Woelfel said that the three officials he talked to said no. Of course, the Bucks fanbase slammed Woelfel, a former beat writer covering the team.
