Others will extol JB Bickerstaff for pushing the franchise through the remaining stages of its rebuild and into the top-half of the Eastern Conference last season. Malik Beasley’s 2024-25 resurgence certainly made a difference, too. Though, it is all too easy to overlook <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-tobias-harris-leadership-elevated-expectations-2025-26">Tobias Harris’ valuable contributions</a>.</p><p>The veteran forward arrived in the Motor City with little fan fare surrounding him. He received a decent amount of blame for the Philadelphia 76ers’ shortcomings and was no longer regarded as a core player. He has fit nicely in Detroit, however, boosting the squad with his veteran leadership and overall efficient offense. Injuries have prevented him from fully experiencing the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-continue-historic-achievements-defeating-pacers">Pistons’ historic start</a> to the season, but he remains a key component of this team.</p><p>Ergo, it is important that Harris stays on the floor and continues to build chemistry with this teammates. The 33-year-old is on the injury report ahead of Saturday’s meeting with the Milwaukee Bucks. He missed three weeks in November because of a right ankle sprain, so this issue is obviously worth monitoring. Bucks guard AJ Green is considered questionable with a shoulder contusion, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/milwaukee-bucks/bucks-news-giannis-antetokounmpos-calf-injury-could-eliminate-him-major-awards">Giannis Antetokounmpo is stuck on the bench</a> with a calf strain. Detroit has the depth to prevail in this home matchup.</p><p>Again, though, the Pistons (18-5) will probably need a healthy and productive Tobias Harris at some point this season. He is averaging 14.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from 3-point range.</p><p>Fans will have to wait a little longer to find out if Harris is going to suit up against the Bucks (10-14). The 33-year-old veteran has been visibly excited during training camp for the 2025-26 season. Harris has embraced his leadership role with the Pistons and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/jqz5yWKlfuk" rel="noopener">addressed the media</a> on what it means to see the benefits of last season’s efforts pay off as the team heads into this season.</p><p>“It’s a beautiful thing. I think to be able to be in that position and being a guy who can contribute at a high level is important and leads to more equity within the group. Just being the guy they can come to as a mentor, an older player, and as a brother,” Harris explained. “All the guys on this team listen, and they’re eager to learn. As a vet, that’s all you can ask for. It’s a perfect position set up for me to be in to utilize some of my character traits and play my game as well.”</p><p>The Pistons and Harris <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-tobias-harris-reuniting-52-million-contract">agreed on a two-year contract</a> last offseason during free agency. He has lived up to that deal so far, averaging 13.7 points, 6 rebounds, and playing some of the best defense of his career last season.</p><p>The young core of Detroit badly needed veteran leadership to help provide direction to a winning standard. Harris returned to the Pistons after being a member of the team from 2015 to 2018. Detroit also <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-2024-nba-free-agency-grades-every-signing">added veteran guards</a> Tim Hardaway Jr., Malik Beasley, and Paul Reed for the same assistance. The production of Harris helped lift Detroit to its first playoff victories since 2008.</p><h2><b>Tobias Harris is impressed with the new athleticism</b></h2><p>The Pistons are returning this season as still one of the young teams in the NBA. Head coach JB Bickerstaff knows that youth comes with extreme athleticism throughout the roster. His gameplan last season was to make that a strength, and he emphasized the importance of that being the team’s identity.</p><p>Detroit finished second in fast-break points last season, averaging 18.4 per game. With a full roster available in camp, Bickerstaff is looking to capitalize on that same advantage. Harris even commented on <a href="https://x.com/CotyDavis_24/status/1973504192850567637" rel="noopener">how their athleticism stacks up against the rest of the league</a> during practice.</p><p>“We’ve definitely got some athletes. These young guys are athletic. We’ve got some sleepers too. Our most athletic guy nobody knows about. I’m not going to say his name, but maybe you’ll see through the season,” Harris jokingly stated to the media.</p><p>There was limited athletic depth at certain points last season due to injuries on the Pistons’ roster. Shooting guard Jaden Ivey only played 30 games due to injuring his leg in January. Small forward Ausar Thompson also missed a good portion of the season while dealing with blood clots.</p><p>Having those two wings in the starting lineup together should give a significant spark for the Pistons against opponents. They had a successful regular season, going 14-3 as they secured the second spot in the NFC. They beat the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams and Washington Commanders on their way to Super Bowl 59.</p><p>It was there when they faced the Kansas City Chiefs for the championship. Kansas City looked to achieve a three-peat, while Philadelphia wanted their second in franchise history. The Eagles ultimately succeeded, taking down the Chiefs 40-22 to secure the title.</p><p>George was present at the Eagles’ Super Bowl parade, which he recalled during a May 26 episode of the Podcast P with Paul George show. He encountered a fan who told him that Philadelphia could have kept Harris if they knew George was going to underperform throughout the season.</p><p>Harris <a href="https://x.com/tobias31/status/1927111825293750735" rel="noopener">caught wind of the video</a>, and responded to it by posting a photo of him with a cigar and had the text refer to the 76ers’ struggles with George.</p><p>“After the parade…4-27 ⏰🏀➡️😂,” Harris said.</p><h2><b>How Pistons’ Tobias Harris, 76ers’ Paul George did this season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/76ers-news-Tobias-Harris-clowns-Philadelphia-for-post-Super-Bowl-struggles-.jpg"><figcaption>Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>What Tobias Harris meant by his post is that Paul George and the 76ers went 4-27 in their last 31 games to end the regular season. Certainly a brutal shot to take at the franchise he presented for six years.</p><p>Harris finds himself in a better spot, unlike the 76ers. In his first season with the Detroit Pistons, he averaged 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in 73 appearances. In the playoffs, the team’s first since 2019, he produced 15.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in the six-game series against the New York Knicks.</p><p>While Harris succeeded as a veteran on a rising Pistons squad, George went through a turbulent season with the 76ers. He only played in 41 games, averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists. Philadelphia shut him down in March as the team finished 24-58, their worst record since the 2016-17 campaign.</p><p>Injuries ravaged the 76ers roster throughout the season, including George, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and rookie sensation Jared McCain. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-brian-windhorst-drops-harsh-take-disastrous-season">2024-25 season was an unmitigated disaster</a>. The 76ers finished the year 24-58 and broke their seven-year postseason streak. George struggled heavily in his first season in Philadelphia, averaging 16.2 points per game on 43% shooting from the field.</p><p>While PG-13’s production wasn’t up to par, the main disappointment from the 76ers was this group’s dismal health situation. Joel Embiid was practically injured the entire season, Tyrese Maxey played just 52 games, and George only took part in half of the games. In addition, star rookie Jared McCain’s stellar start was squashed by a season-ending meniscus tear. Still, George was the 200 million dollar man last offseason, so he got most of the blame for Philadelphia’s dip. The future Hall of Famer <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d04V6i82024&amp;t=3401s" rel="noopener">broke down</a> on his podcast an interaction with some fans during an Eagles’ celebration.</p><p>“I had to roll down the window because I was doing a run around trying to get to the building. So finally I had to hit up the officer like I’m trying to get right here. I had been in traffic for about an hour and a half, I’m trying to get to right here, can you all please let me get through the street right here. The franchise has the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft and will likely select a highly dynamic wing to help Paul George with major defensive assignments. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-the-player-favored-to-be-no-3-pick-will-divide-philly-fans">Ace Bailey and VJ Edgecombe are two options</a> with this selection, or Dylan Harper, who also has the size to guard multiple positions at the NBA level.</p><p>A core of Embiid, George, Maxey, Bailey, and McCain isn’t exactly discouraging heading into 2025-26. But the pressure is on for this franchise to contend, especially in an Eastern Conference that could be more open than usual due to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s uncertain future in Milwaukee and Jayson Tatum’s torn Achilles. There are certainly plenty of threats in the conference, such as the two teams facing off in the Eastern Conference Finals right now, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and rising franchises such as the Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons, but there’s a window here for the 76ers to be a threat again.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
