However, he didn’t skip a beat in Beantown, posting a strong debut during the Celtics’ 116-103 win over the San Antonio Spurs. His performance was celebrated by six-time All-Star Jayson Tatum, who applauded Craig for being ready to go on a new squad.</p><p>“He integrated pretty well. Boston’s go-to guy drew the San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox away from Craig, leaving him alone at the 3-point line. The newest Celtic splashed the open triple, putting Boston up 52-31 with less than five minutes left in the second quarter.</p><p>“[We] kind of threw him in there on the fly,” Tatum admitted. “But, it’s a part of being a professional—staying ready.”</p><p>On the defensive end, Craig forced a turnover as soon as he entered the contest in the first quarter. The 34-year-old is <a href="https://celticschronicle.com/p/torrey-craig-a-defensive-spark-for-boston-celtics-bench-jayson-tatum-jaylen-brown-derrick-white" rel="noopener">known for being a 3-and-D guy</a>, and he lived up to his reputation against the Spurs.</p><p>“Obviously, he’ll get better, more comfortable with us, and likewise, as the season progresses,” Tatum stated. “But he gave us a spark off the bench, hit some threes, was active on the defensive end, and that’s what we expect from him.”</p><p>On his second (and final) shot of the night, Craig was good again. He drained another wide-open 3-pointer with 40 seconds remaining in the second quarter, giving the Celtics 66 points at halftime. He filled the Celtics’ 14th roster spot without hurting their budget, which is especially tight given <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-celtics-true-feelings-paying-top-dollar-for-roster-several-years">all the money tied up in the two supermax contracts</a> belonging to Tatum and four-time All-Star Jaylen Brown.</p><p>Tatum and Brown proved they were worth the price last season, as the C’s dominated the 2024 NBA Playoffs and helped raise another banner in Boston. Although Brown, the reigning NBA Finals MVP, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/is-celtics-jaylen-brown-playing-vs-spurs-latest-injury-update">rested and sat versus the Spurs</a>, Tatum showed his worth once more by flaming San Antonio with 32 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists. After Thursday’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/celtics-vs-knicks-prediction-odds-pick-spread-2-8-2025">the Celtics will look to bounce back</a> against the New York Knicks.</p><p>In his first media availability since signing with the Celtics, Craig <a href="https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2025/02/torrey-craig-explains-what-he-brings-to-boston-celtics-after-signing.html" rel="noopener">discussed</a> adapting with the champions, per MassLive.com’s Brian Robb.</p><p>“The game tells you what to do, they tell you what shots to take,” Craig said. “Just have to trust your work and take the available shot. All the teams I’ve been on have been preaching just to shoot your shot and play with confidence. It’s no different here.</p><p>“You can tell the way they play, the shots they shoot, they take the shots that are available to them. Obviously, they got some tough shot-makers in JB and Jayson. But I love the guys, they shoot the shots that’s available and I’ll do the same,” Craig concluded.</p><p>Celtics’ Torrey Craig also discussed competing for a championship, reuniting with Jrue Holiday, who played with him during their time with the Milwaukee Bucks, and how deciding to sign with the Celtics was an easy one.</p><p>“As a competitor in the league, you always want to play for something and compete for something,” Craig said. “I’m a super competitor and I want to play basketball the right way at the highest level. Craig is expected to be out for a couple more weeks as he recovers, according to a team spokesperson. Craig has been diagnosed with a right ankle sprain and he will be re-evaluated around the end of the month.</p><p>“Chicago Bulls forward Torrey Craig has been diagnosed with a right ankle sprain,” A team spokesperson said in a release to the media on Monday. “Craig will be re-evaluated in two weeks. Updates will be provided as appropriate.”</p><p>The Bulls hosted the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/billy-donovan-net-worth">head coach Billy Donovan</a> shared an update on Torrey Craig before the game. It sounds like it was a little bit unclear what the injury was at first, but now that it has been diagnosed, Craig can start the road to recovery.</p><p>“I think what ended up happening was he [Torrey Craig] got hit on that nerve,” Donovan said to the media before Wednesday’s game. “He was having a hard time getting his muscles to react because of where he was hit. As that started to come back, he started to have pain in his ankle after that, and they figured out going back through the video and looking at it, that it was an ankle sprain. So, they’re just treating that right now.”</p><p>So far this season, Craig has been able to play in only nine games. He is averaging 12.6 minutes per game and 6.9 PPG in those 12.6 minutes. He is also averaging 2.8 RPG and .6 APG. When Craig has been able to play, he has been efficient.</p><p>If Torrey Craig is re-evaluated exactly two weeks after the press release, then the earliest he would be able to come back is the January 27th contest against the Denver Nuggets.
