In fact, he would say that aspect is key and is <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1938077841838457324" rel="noopener">“grateful”</a> that he will be able to play alongside the featured Miami duo of Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro.</p><p>“The playmaking ability is what I do,” Jakucionis said. “I’m just grateful to play with guys like [Bam] Adebayo. We can play together in pick-and-rolls. And Tyler Herro and all those kinds of players. I’m just very happy and grateful to be in this place.”</p><p>In speaking with the media on a call right after being selected, there could be some surprise that Jakucionis fell to the 20th pick. He would even say to ClutchPoints <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1938077840530149654" rel="noopener">that his playmaking</a> is his biggest strength, which was a need heading into the draft for Miami.</p><p>“Yeah, I think the playmaking, trying to make everybody better on the court,” Jakucionis said. “Try to find open players, shoot when I’m open, and give a lot of effort every day.”</p><p>Last season, Jakucionis averaged 15 points, 5,7 rebounds, and 4,7 assists per game while shooting 44 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from beyond the arc.</p><p>There is no denying that there are some aspects that Jakucionis will need to improve on, like his defensive ability and consistency from three-point range, but the Heat have been <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1938077517228753083" rel="noopener">known for their development program</a> in uplifting young players. This would be something that Jakucionis pointed out to ClutchPoints on Wednesday night.</p><p>“I know the development part is really good there,” Jakucionis said. “I think I can improve a lot there, I just need to trust in the process, trust to make the team better, trust to win as much as we can, and I’m ready to work.”</p><p>At any rate, Miami looks to improve after finishing last season with a 37-45 record, which put them 10th in the East, as though they would make it through the play-in tournament, the playoffs were one to forget. Coach [Jake] Diebler and his staff were real with me from the start. The way they communicate, the vision they have for the program, and how much they believe in their players made it easy to trust them.”</p><p>The younger Herro comes to Columbus as a three-star point guard ranked 288th in his class, according to On3’s rankings. He gives the Buckeyes a two-man freshman class enrolling this summer with top-100 talent A’mare Bynum already in tow. Diebler also had a pledge from four-star guard Dorian Jones but he decided last week to take another year before enrolling in college.</p><p>That gave Herro an opportunity to come in, and he told On3 that Ohio State basketball fans can expect him to make a difference on both ends.</p><p>“I’d describe my game as a pass-first guard who can create when needed and score the ball too,” he said. “I take pride in being a two-way player, someone who can impact both ends of the floor and bring energy every time I step on the court.”</p><p>In addition to Bynum and Herro, Ohio State has three incoming transfers in Joshua Ojianwuna (Baylor), Brandon Noel (Wright State), and Christoph Tilly (Santa Clara).</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-basketball/ohio-state-basketball-news-buckeyes-fans-call-jake-diebler-job-after-disastrous-loss-vs-iowa">Ohio State went 17-15</a> last year, Diebler’s first full season as head coach. With the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-tyler-herros-excited-admission-regarding-possible-extension-this-offseason">Heat star eligible for contract extension in October</a>, team president Pat Riley spoke about the likelihood that it will get done then about his season overall.</p><p>Herro currently has two years left on his contract, making $31 million and $33 million, respectively, where in October, he’s eligible for a three-year deal worth $150 million. Speaking Friday at his end-of-season press conference, Riley would say to ClutchPoints that Herro is a <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1920910369503019105" rel="noopener">“pivotal”</a> aspect to Miami and hopes he can “stay here the rest of his career.”</p><p>“I will steal one of Spo’s favorite Spo-isms, ignitable,” Riley said. “He’s one of the most ignitable guys offensively in the league, and we’re happy to have him. He’s 25 years old, he’s coming off an All-Star year, and he was voted in by the coaches. That means something, and so he’s pivotal for us as an offensive player. We just need more around him that can do a little bit of what he does, because now he’s getting beat up, he’s getting schemed, overly schemed, and so we’ll learn a lot about that. However, if they were to wait, Herro would be eligible for a four-year, $207 million extension through 2030-31.</p><p>After Butler’s departure, Herro was the sole focus for opposing defenses as he experienced immense pressure and face-guarding, something Riley said will be a challenge this season to overcome. He would also double down on building around Herro and team captain Bam Adebayo.</p><p>“But now, when you’re in a position of having two on the ball all the time, and you’re getting picked up full court, 94 feet,” Riley said to ClutchPoints “And I know for a fact that Tyler was telling Max [Strus], could you use some Listerine please, or something like that because he face-guarded them all over the court, and it’s a whole another world that he’s in now. And so people will sacrifice so much on defense just to wear him out.”</p><p>“So those are the things that coach is very good at and has to really, you know, identify and reconcile. And then Tyler simply has to learn how to be a great player, like Steph [Curry] is when he gets that treatment, and to be able to still score and those, there’s going to be nights when he’s going to have those four for 20 games. He’s just one of those guys. But I’m glad that we got him, got him, Bam at the right time and and we’ll move forward with that.”</p><h2><b>Pat Riley answers if the Heat can afford to give Tyler Herro an extension</b></h2><p>With <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-pat-riley-drops-major-hint-on-offseason-plans">Riley promising changes to the Heat this offseason</a>, there could be concerns with the financials, as the team was once again playing in the tax. One would wonder if Miami could afford to give Herro a contract extension this October, plus adding another star, and staying under the tax.</p><p>Riley would be asked this Friday as emphasizing that Herro is<a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1920911309140267150" rel="noopener"> “deserving”</a> of an extension, the team hasn’t “committed” to it just yet, though both sides have talked about it.</p><p>“I think he answered that question perfectly last week; he’s okay,” Riley said. “And so we’ve already talked about it, and I’ve talked about it with Tyler. And so, we’ll see what happens as we plan. But definitely Tyler is deserving of that, of the thought of an extension. But are we going to do it? We haven’t committed to it, but we’re going to discuss it. And I’ve already talked to him about it. While <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-tyler-herros-unacceptable-admission-after-embarrassing-playoff-exit">Herro’s season ended in rough fashion after the Heat were swept</a> by the Cleveland Cavaliers, the season as a whole was an ultimate success, as an extension down the line is on the table with the star giving his take on the matter.</p><h2><b>Heat’s Tyler Herro says “not the biggest deal” on extension this October</b></h2><p>Herro is already on contract for the next two seasons, making $31 million and $33 million, respectively, but is eligible for an extension starting October 1 with the deadline on the 20th of that month. It would be up a three-year deal worth $150 million, where after the two years he has left, he would make $50 million and $54 million, but the two sides don’t necessarily have to get one done in that timeline.</p><p>However, one could argue it would be more beneficial for Herro to wait as he will be eligible for a four-year, $207 million contract through the 2030-31 season in 2026. Herro would even hint at that during Wednesday’s exit interview, as <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1917664368281477547" rel="noopener">he would downplay getting an extension done</a> as soon as possible and saying he wants to stay in Miami.</p><p>“Not the biggest deal, but I would love to be here. The front office, the organization, the city, everyone knows how much I love Miami. I’ve been here since I was 18, 19. I’ve got two kids here. “This is really home for me. I love being here. Basketball is why I’m here at the end of the day. I want to win, and I know how badly this organization and city want to win. We will see what happens. If it doesn’t get done in October, then we can get it done next summer. Some drama has now followed involving star guard Tyler Herro.</p><p>On April 26, The Athletic’s Jared Weiss published an article discussing how difficult it’s been for Herro to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-tyler-herro-painful-admission-jimmy-butler">help the Heat win games without Jimmy Butler,</a> who is now a member of the Golden State Warriors.</p><p>He asked Herro about the absence of Butler before Game 3 against the Cavs, with Herro giving this answer:</p><p>“Obviously, I know I need Jimmy to win. If we had Jimmy right now, I feel like it’d be a completely different situation,” Herro told <i>The Athletic.</i>. “We probably wouldn’t even be the eighth seed. So finding that middle balance of like, damn, we need him, but also understanding, sh–, that’s his career and what he wants is ultimately his right to want what he wants. Both sides wanted to go their separate ways.</p><p>Regardless of the drama and a disappointing first-round exit, Tyler Herro had a career year. He made his first All-Star team, averaging 23.9 points and 5.5 dimes per night. However, despite the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-why-tyler-herro-likes-how-cavs-have-defended-him-in-playoff-series">Heat guard liking how the Cavs were playing him</a>, he was unable to counteract it, but he wasn’t alone, as the rest of the team couldn’t find any rhythm against a motivated No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.</p><p>While Herro’s season should be remembered for having his best season in the pros, as said before, he would say it’s been a <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1917061875621122474" rel="noopener">“rollercoaster.”</a></p><p>“It was a roller coaster, ups and downs at different points,” Herro said. “We thought we were finding a little traction, a couple great games, and then go back downhill. He shot a dismal 1-of-10 from the field, including 1-of-9 from beyond the arc. The lone shot he made was in the first quarter, emphasizing how much he struggled throughout the contest.</p><p>Not only did <a href="https://x.com/statmuse/status/1917028562504237538" rel="noopener">he have an off night</a>, but the Heat also struggled to contain the Cavs offense. Cleveland was relentless throughout the game, getting whatever they desired at Miami’s expense. With Herro struggling, who was their leading scorer, their weaknesses became major in Game 4.</p><p>Fans did not take long to be critical of Herro’s performance, making their thoughts known on social media. They only made 36% of their total tries, including 20% from beyond the arc, and 60% from the free-throw line. They also couldn’t secure the ball, committing 19 turnovers throughout the game.</p><p>Four players scored in double-digits on Miami’s behalf. Nikola Jovic led the way with 24 points and five rebounds. He shot 8-of-15 overall, including 4-of-9 from three, and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. Bam Adebayo came next with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Andrew Wiggins and Pelle Larsson provided 12 points and five rebounds each.</p><p>The Heat will now move on to the offseason with plenty of questions to answer. That’s a 26-point differential that’s incredibly difficult to come back from. The way Game 4 is shaping up, that might be the case once again for Tyler Herro and the Heat.</p><p>It’s been a tough go for Miami all season long. Not only did they trade Jimmy Butler away to the Golden State Warriors, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-tyler-herro-painful-admission-jimmy-butler">but the Heat ended the regular season</a> with a 37-45 record. Although they made it through the play-in tournament, the roster just doesn’t have the firepower to keep up with the Cavaliers.</p><p>Regardless of how this series ends, the Heat are in line to have two first-round picks in the 2025 NBA Draft. With the Warriors not likely to receive a Top 10 pick after making the playoffs themselves, Miami will avoid losing that first-round selection in 2025. Ultimately, that’s likely the best-case scenario for this franchise as the front office must find a way to improve the roster for next year.</p><p>One key piece the franchise can build around is Tyler Herro. He’s been solid throughout most of his career and has stepped up big time since Butler’s departure. The 25-year-old guard has had a career season, averaging 23.9 points (career-high), 5.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists (career-high) per game while owning a 47.2% field goal percentage and a 37.5% three-point percentage.</p><p>We’ll see how the Heat handle the second half of this contest against the Cavaliers as Miami goes into halftime losing 72-33.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Previously, Preston worked as an associate editor for Dot Esports and a site expert for FanSided's Union and Blue.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Miami Heat</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Miami Heat’s tumultuous 2024-25 season is almost over, so it is easy to see why any Heat fan or player might be lamenting the departure of Jimmy Butler, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-why-tyler-herro-likes-how-cavs-have-defended-him-in-playoff-series">including Tyler Herro</a>.</p><p>Before Game 3, in which <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/cleveland-cavaliers/cavs-dominate-heat-in-game-3-seize-3-0-lead-behind-stellar-bench-play">Miami was thoroughly dominated by the Cleveland Cavaliers</a>, Herro admitted <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6313427/2025/04/26/tyler-herro-heat-cavaliers-jimmy-butler/" rel="noopener">that part of him knows</a> that the Heat do need Butler, who the team traded before the deadline.</p><p>“Obviously, I know I need Jimmy to win. If we had Jimmy right now, I feel like it’d be a completely different situation,” Herro told The Athletic’s Jared Weiss. “We probably wouldn’t even be the eighth seed. So finding that middle balance of like, damn, we need him, but also understanding, sh–, that’s his career and what he wants is ultimately his right to want what he wants. It was just tough to be in the middle of both sides.”</p><p>It has been an understandably frustrating season for the Heat roster. After last season’s first-round exit at the hands of the Boston Celtics, Butler said that Miami would have eliminated the eventual NBA champions had he been healthy. The comment sparked a nine-month war between Butler and the Heat front office.</p><p>Shortly after Butler said that, Heat president <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-pat-riley-warns-jimmy-butler-to-keep-mouth-shut-after-viral-celtics-comments">Pat Riley said that Butler should keep his “mouth shut”</a> if he didn’t play. He also generally stressed the importance of availability going into the 2024-25 season, which also seemed to be directed mostly, albeit not entirely, at Butler.</p><p>Combined with the public back-and-forth was Butler’s desire for a lucrative, long-term contract extension, which the Heat were reportedly unwilling to give. The negotiations or lack thereof only poured more gasoline on the proverbial fire, and eventually, Butler came out and told the media that he did not believe he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-jimmy-butler-trade-rumor-to-explode-with-sad-admission-amid-loss-to-pacers">could find “joy” in playing basketball for the Heat any longer.</a> For “conduct detrimental to the team,” Butler was suspended, and shortly after his return, suspended again for missing a team flight. He was<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-jimmy-butler-suspended-indefinitely-amid-trade-rumors"> suspended a third and final time</a> after walking out of practice. As the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-tyler-herros-brutally-honest-response-to-darius-garlands-pick-on-comments"> Heat’s star in Herro was being targeted</a> for his defense, as said by Darius Garland, the Cavs also focused their attention on his offensive ability, something that the first-time All-Star enjoyed seeing.</p><p>In the 37-point loss to Miami on Saturday afternoon, Herro finished the game with 13 points on five of 12 shooting from the field, only making one of three from beyond the arc. Cleveland has done what Herro has seen most of the season, which is upping the pressure, face-guarding, and forcing him into tough situations, something that Herro likes and even explains why it isn’t a <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1916602489324908919" rel="noopener">“good defense to play.”</a></p><p>“Everyone’s seen it,” Herro said after Sunday’s practice. “Face-guard, force everything down into the paint area, picking me up right when the ball goes through the net, they’re picking me up. I like it, I like it a lot actually.”</p><p>“It’s really not a good defense to play,” Herro continued. ”As long as we can expose it, which we can. Especially after Miami traded Jimmy Butler before the deadline, Herro has been receiving the same pressure with him countering it, leading to a hot end to the regular season.</p><p>However, Cleveland is a top team on the defensive side and found major success against him in Game 3. With the rest of the league guarding Herro like a star player, he does see it as a <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1916603265405403426" rel="noopener">“sign of respect,”</a> but he’s more focused on leading the unit to a win.</p><p>“It’s a great sign of respect, but I’m not really looking for too much respect right now,” Herro said. “I’m just trying to win a game, so we just got to figure out ways to expose it. Miami would find no answers in stopping Cleveland in the paint as they scored 60 in that area, plus their opponent’s defense was executed to perfection in clogging up cutting and passing lanes.</p><p>It led to the most lopsided playoff loss in the team’s history, beating Game 3 of the NBA Finals in 2013, where the San Antonio Spurs beat them by 36. While the Heat would end up winning the championship in that series, the same fortune is improbable currently as Miami is down 0-3 in the series.</p><p>Team captain Bam Adebayo has stressed throughout the year, especially during their 10-game skid in the regular season, to “not let go of the rope.” Is that message now amplified with the series deficit at 0-3?</p><p>“<a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1916235251044454782" rel="noopener">Hell yeah</a>,” Adebayo said to ClutchPoints as he finished the contest with a team-leading 22 points and nine rebounds. “I’ve been a part of a team that was up 3-0, and then, in the blink of an eye, we were going into a Game 7.
