I love basketball. Anytime I can do anything that pertains to basketball, I want to do it. But this man is going on like Year 23 and he was working out and talking and involved like it was probably Year five for him, you know what I’m saying?</p><p>“And that’s amazing to see. Maxey has been hard at work this offseason improving his game, which <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/exclusive-tyrese-maxey-on-new-balance-hero-pack-76ers-joel-embiid-and-more">included workouts</a> with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.</p><p>Maxey, who will be entering his sixth season in the NBA this October, is hopeful to take another step in his overall development.</p><h2><b>76ers’ Tyrese Maxey details ‘amazing’ LeBron James offseason workout</b></h2><p>Tyrese Maxey called the 2024-25 season one of the most difficult seasons in his NBA career due in large part to the team’s inability to stay healthy.</p><p>Maxey put up per-game career highs in points, steals, minutes, field goals made, and field goals attempted while playing a career-low 52 regular season games. In 37.7 minutes a night, Maxey averaged 26.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.</p><p>After the rough season, Maxey is coming into the 2025-26 campaign determined not to have a repeat season, and a workout with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James added increased motivation for the 76ers guard.</p><p>Tyrese Maxey spoke exclusively with ClutchPoints for the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/exclusive-tyrese-maxey-on-new-balance-hero-pack-76ers-joel-embiid-and-more">release of his New Balance “Hero Pack</a>,” which features the Hesi Low V2’s and the 1906R’s in a special, superhero themed colorway that was designed by Maxey himself. Among the things discussed was the workouts with LeBron James in Los Angeles.</p><p>“I think the biggest thing is for me and what I can take from him is just his passion for the game,” Maxey told ClutchPoints. “Like, I’m extremely passionate. I love basketball. Anytime I can do anything that pertains to basketball, I want to do it. I think anybody who’s able to watch him, not just work out but play should feel honored because it’s amazing.”</p><p>Maxey, who shares an agent with James, has been able to get in the gym with the Lakers star since his arrival to the NBA in 2020. Maxey has seen a rise as the 21st overall pick in the NBA Draft who did not make an All-Rookie team to an NBA All-Star, a Most Improved Player of the Year award, and a face of the 76ers franchise within five seasons.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Lakers-news-LeBron-James-shares-powerful-message-for-76ers-Tyrese-Maxey.jpg"></figure><p>“I don’t know how many times I’ve worked out with him now,” Maxey admitted. “I mean, that’s crazy to say and, I guess, that’s how I know I am getting a little old. But yeah, it’s good work, man. It’s good work. He does a good job of talking and just being vocal and helping. I’m very appreciative of him. He’s done a lot.”</p><p>Tyrese Maxey told ClutchPoints he’s <a href="https://twitter.com/TyreseMaxey/status/1946370722164560110" rel="noopener">committing this offseason</a> to how he can help his team both on and off the ball.</p><p>“I’ve been doing a lot of different things [this summer],” Maxey added. “I’ve been working on a lot of like just posting and just trying to find ways to slow the game down and create for my teammates. I’ve got to be able to control the game at a better pace, I feel like, and being able to control the entire 48 minutes of it, whether that’s with the ball in my hands, without the ball in my hands, when I’m on the bench and I’m helping my teammates. That’s one step that I really want to take.”</p><p>Maxey wasn’t the only 76ers player to struggle through injuries last season.</p><p>Joel Embiid finished the 2024-25 regular season having played just 19 regular season games due to recurring knee injuries. He averaged some of the lowest numbers of his career at 23.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game while never truly appearing to be healthy on the basketball court.</p><p>Paul George also played just 41 games in the regular season, averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. The 16.2 point per game average was the lowest since his second year in the NBA.</p><p>Jared McCain appeared to be the Rookie of the Year frontrunner through early December before he suffered a torn meniscus that shut him down for the remainder of the season. McCain averaged 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists for Philadelphia, but only played 23 games.</p><p>More than anything, this 76ers team needs to stay healthy and build some on-court continuity because talent alone will only get them so far. UNDERSTOOD🫡!</p><p>— Tyrese Maxey (@TyreseMaxey) <a href="https://twitter.com/TyreseMaxey/status/1946370722164560110?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 19, 2025</a></p></blockquote><p><script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p></figure><p>During an exclusive interview with ClutchPoints to promote the launch of his New Balance “Hero Pack” colorway, 76ers star Tyrese Maxey addressed those comments and who they were directed at.</p><p>“Yeah, that wasn’t even for me personally,” <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/exclusive-tyrese-maxey-on-new-balance-hero-pack-76ers-joel-embiid-and-more">Maxey added in the exclusive interview</a> with ClutchPoints’ Tomer Azarly. “That was just in general. I mean, I had a lot of time on my hands, sadly, because we lost early. I just got a chance to really read people’s tweets, not just that pertain to me, just pertain to everybody in the world. It’s just like, ‘man, people are really getting stuff off their chest.’ Hey, I get it. Get it off, man. I’m not mad at it at all. Hey, if you’ve got something to say, speak it. That’s the world that we live in. That’s why we live in America.”</p><p>Joel Embiid finished the 2024-25 season having played just 19 regular season games, averaging 23.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game, but never truly appeared healthy on the basketball court.</p><p>Paul George played just 41 games in the regular season, averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. The 16.2 point per game average was the lowest since his second year in the NBA.</p><p>Rookie of the year frontrunner Jared McCain suffered a torn meniscus in the first half of the season that shut him down. In just 23 appearances, McCain averaged 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists for Philadelphia.</p><p>“So it wasn’t more of a personal thing or people talking about you?” Maxey was asked. “It’s just what you saw in general on social media?”</p><p>“No, I don’t take anything personal,” Maxey responded. “I live a great life. I’m blessed. I know that we didn’t perform the way we wanted to perform last year. That’s okay. You take down that on the chin. You take that as a challenge. You go out in the next year and you go out there and you prove people wrong and you make a step.”</p><p>The Sixers haven’t made many moves in free agency, but are are hoping their biggest additions to the roster will come in the form of No. 3 overall pick VJ Edgecomb and a flurry of key players returning to peak health. Joel Embiid, Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, and Jared McCain were clearly the 76ers’ best players last season, but all dealt with significant injuries.</p><p>If the Philadelphia 76ers are going to bounce back this season, it’ll have to start with health, first and foremost.</p><p>“The biggest thing is we got to get on the court together, we’ve got to be healthy and we got to have continuity. You can’t do anything if the guys aren’t together. If we aren’t together, if we aren’t all on the court, if we’re not all stepping in the right direction and it’s going to be extremely hard. So that’s my main goal.”</p><p>Last week, Maxey and New Balance launched the, “Hero Pack,” a superhero themed colorway for the Hesi Low V2’s and the 1906R’s.</p><p>“I think the inspiration is kind of in the name itself, the ‘Hero Pack,'” Maxey told ClutchPoints about his New Balance colorway. “It ties in three of the things that are very important to me. Basketball, shoes, and heroes. I think those things are some things that are very important in my life, on and off the court. Just being a hero on the court and trying to help my team win games. Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>When <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/sixers-news-joel-embiid-dubs-tyrese-maxey-the-franchise-after-50-point-game">Joel Embiid nicknamed Tyrese Maxey “The Franchise,”</a> he inevitably put weight on the Philadelphia 76ers’ then-young, ascending guard.</p><p>Origionally drafted outside of the lottery with a pick that was only theirs because of a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/why-76ers-must-sign-mike-muscala-complete-pairing-with-tyrese-maxey-after-pistons-buyout">fateful Mike Muscala shot</a>, Maxey rapidly proved he could be an impactful scorer at the NBA level and even dazzled with some impressive off-ball movement abilities, nailing outside shots on dimes from players like James Harden to help space the floor for “The Process” in the paint.</p><p>And yet, as his role has grown, and his responsibilities have shifted from being a volume scorer to being a true lead guard, a small but vocal segment of basketball fans – both within the 76ers fanbase and outside of it – have began to wonder if the pride of Kentucky can play the role he’s been thrust into, or if he will have to take a concerted effort to step back and become more of the player he was before his max contract, either in Philadelphia, or on another team entirely.</p><p>Taking to social media during his offseason away from the team, Maxey let fans know he sees what they are saying and “<a href="https://x.com/TyreseMaxey/status/1946370722164560110" rel="noopener">understands</a>” how they feel about him heading into Year 6.</p><p>“Y’all talking y’all mess on this app this summer!” Maxey wrote. “UNDERSTOOD.”</p><p>Goodness, is Maxey starting to feel a certain type of way about the 76ers fanbase, with the potential to eventually tire of his online criticism and ask for a trade like <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/76ers-rumors-kendrick-perkins-warns-philadelphia-future-tyrese-maxey-trade-demand">ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins suggested</a>?</p><p>Or will he go all-in on taking his game up another notch, like he has multiple other times during his NBA career, focusing on his processing and set-up skills while accepting that other players like Jared McCain, Quentin Grimes, and VJ Edgecombe may take on more on-ball roles as his usage takes a step back.</p><p>While Maxey may not be a perfect player and has work to do in order to become a true point guard, the 76ers’ signing of high school friend Trendon Watford clearly proves that they value him as both a player and a leader and want to build around him moving forward. If Maxey can accept that trust and use it as fuel to improve his game while focusing less on <i>only</i> going after his own shot, the 76ers’ trust will be further justified.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
