But one thing’s for sure: this 76ers team won’t be anything like they were last year, injury problems notwithstanding. On Monday night, the 76ers scored their third consecutive win to begin the year, defeating the Orlando Magic, 136-124, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-joel-embiid-fed-up-minutes-restriction">despite being without Joel Embiid and Paul George</a>. Without those two veterans, the onus was on Tyrese Maxey to lead the way, and lead he did — finishing with 43 points and eight assists on 15-32 shooting from the field.</p><p>Maxey has been on a heater to begin the year, and he’s looking like the 76ers’ undisputed best player in the process. He’s averaging 37 points through the first three games of the campaign, and he’s playing as though he wants to erase the memories of their nightmare 2024-25 campaign completely.</p><p>And with burgeoning rookie <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-vj-edgecombe-shows-off-athleticism-paolo-banchero-chasedown-block">VJ Edgecombe coming into his own</a> this quickly alongside Maxey in the 76ers backcourt, there’s <a href="https://x.com/sixers/status/1982992432573931926" rel="noopener">no better star</a> in the NBA to mentor the third overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft.</p><p>“Super fun guy to play with. He also put up two rebounds, three assists and one steal while shooting 62 percent from the field.</p><p>But despite Maxey’s heroics, the 76ers found themselves trailing the Celtics by double digits in the second half of the game. Maxey finally missed from three-point range, going 7-of-9 after his 3-0f-3 first half outing. He The Celtics still couldn’t stop him from scoring though as he had a game-high 34 points through the fourth quarter.</p><p>The 76ers initially selected Maxey with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and he’s become one of the best players of his draft class, outperforming his draft spot. In 2023-24, Maxey earned his first NBA All-Star appearance while winning the league’s Most Improved Player Award. Last season he put up All-Star caliber numbers amid the 76ers’ injury-plagued year.</p><p>Maxey appeared in 52 games during the 2025-26 season at a little over 37 minutes per game. He averaged a career-high 26.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.8 steals with splits of 43.7 percent shooting from the field, 33.7 percent shooting from the three-point line and 87.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>With Joel Embiid being limited and relatively ineffective against the Celtics, Maxey’s fellow backcourt partner, rookie <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-vj-edgecombe-rookie-history-lebron-james-couldnt-match">VJ Edgecombe, also went off in setting an NBA rookie record</a>.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But one thing the 76ers can be sure of is the consistency of Tyrese Maxey, who <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1976795304436678822" rel="noopener">exploded in the first quarter</a> of the team’s preseason game on Friday against the Orlando Magic.</p><p>Friday’s game against the Magic was the 76ers’ third preseason so far, and Tyrese Maxey went off with 17 points in the first quarter. The 76ers’ star had his full offensive arsenal on display, finishing at the basket and knocking down three-point shots as well.</p><p>Throughout the last few seasons, Maxey has been one of the biggest bright spots for the 76ers. The No. 21 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, he’s improved every season he’s been in the league.</p><p>This past season, Maxey appeared in 52 games at a little over 37 minutes per game. He averaged a career-high 26.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.8 steals with splits of 43.7 percent shooting from the field, 33.7 percent shooting from the three-point line and 87.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>During the 76ers’ playoff run in 2023-24, Maxey was arguably the team’s best player. He averaged 29.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists with splits of 47.8 percent shooting from the field, 40 percent shooting from the three-point line and 89.3 percent shooting from the free-throw line while playing 44.5 minutes per game.</p><p>The 76ers are going to be counting heavily on Maxey to help lead and steady the team this year amid the uncertainty. In addition to Embiid’s health concerns, the 76ers also don’t have a concrete answer for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-joel-embiid-paul-george-progress-injury">when Paul George is supposed to be back in the lineup</a>.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Philadelphia may very well have the biggest disparity between their potential floor and ceiling due to their immense talent but the volatility of their health.</p><p>Last year, the 76ers suffered through a brutal campaign defined by injuries and ineptitude and ultimately missed out on the postseason altogether. Recently, Yaron Weitzman of The Ringer broke down how all of the losing had an effect on even the 76ers’ <a href="https://www.theringer.com/2025/10/01/nba/philadelphia-76ers-joel-embiid-paul-george-injury-updates" rel="noopener">most positive players.</a></p><p>“The losing—and everything both causing it and surrounding it—wore on everyone. Even Maxey, famous for his smile as much as for his speed, occasionally sulked. ‘I’ve never lost in my career,’ he said recently. He was so broken, he now says, that he spent part of his summer focusing on his mental health,” reported Weitzman.</p><p>Indeed, Maxey’s infectious energy was especially absent down the stretch of last season, when Philadelphia essentially benched their starting lineup in an effort to tank for a better spot in the draft. Their incompetence was rewarded with the number three overall pick, which they used to draft VJ Edgecombe and add to their logjam of combo guards currently on the roster.</p><h2><b>Can the 76ers compete?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Tyrese-Maxey-dribbles-the-ball.jpg"><figcaption>Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>In theory, a team with Joel Embiid, Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, and a considerable amount of young guard talent should be able to compete, especially in an injury-weakened Eastern Conference.</p><p>Unfortunately, the game is played on paper and not in theory, and murmurs are already occurring surrounding the health of both Embiid and George before the season has even kicked off.</p><p>Embiid has missed the majority of Philadelphia’s games since his 2023 NBA MVP award, and George looked to be on the short list for worst (or best, from his perspective) contracts in recent sports history with his performance last year for the 76ers.</p><p>In any case, the 76ers are slated to kick off their 2025-26 season with a road game against the divisional rival Boston Celtics on October 22.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

I love basketball. Anytime I can do anything that pertains to basketball, I want to do it. But this man is going on like Year 23 and he was working out and talking and involved like it was probably Year five for him, you know what I’m saying?</p><p>“And that’s amazing to see. Maxey has been hard at work this offseason improving his game, which <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/exclusive-tyrese-maxey-on-new-balance-hero-pack-76ers-joel-embiid-and-more">included workouts</a> with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.</p><p>Maxey, who will be entering his sixth season in the NBA this October, is hopeful to take another step in his overall development.</p><h2><b>76ers’ Tyrese Maxey details ‘amazing’ LeBron James offseason workout</b></h2><p>Tyrese Maxey called the 2024-25 season one of the most difficult seasons in his NBA career due in large part to the team’s inability to stay healthy.</p><p>Maxey put up per-game career highs in points, steals, minutes, field goals made, and field goals attempted while playing a career-low 52 regular season games. In 37.7 minutes a night, Maxey averaged 26.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.</p><p>After the rough season, Maxey is coming into the 2025-26 campaign determined not to have a repeat season, and a workout with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James added increased motivation for the 76ers guard.</p><p>Tyrese Maxey spoke exclusively with ClutchPoints for the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/exclusive-tyrese-maxey-on-new-balance-hero-pack-76ers-joel-embiid-and-more">release of his New Balance “Hero Pack</a>,” which features the Hesi Low V2’s and the 1906R’s in a special, superhero themed colorway that was designed by Maxey himself. Among the things discussed was the workouts with LeBron James in Los Angeles.</p><p>“I think the biggest thing is for me and what I can take from him is just his passion for the game,” Maxey told ClutchPoints. “Like, I’m extremely passionate. I love basketball. Anytime I can do anything that pertains to basketball, I want to do it. But this man is going on like Year 23 and he was working out and talking and involved like it was probably Year five for him, you know what I’m saying? And that’s amazing to see. I think anybody who’s able to watch him, not just work out but play should feel honored because it’s amazing.”</p><p>Maxey, who shares an agent with James, has been able to get in the gym with the Lakers star since his arrival to the NBA in 2020. Maxey has seen a rise as the 21st overall pick in the NBA Draft who did not make an All-Rookie team to an NBA All-Star, a Most Improved Player of the Year award, and a face of the 76ers franchise within five seasons.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Lakers-news-LeBron-James-shares-powerful-message-for-76ers-Tyrese-Maxey.jpg"></figure><p>“I don’t know how many times I’ve worked out with him now,” Maxey admitted. “I mean, that’s crazy to say and, I guess, that’s how I know I am getting a little old. But yeah, it’s good work, man. It’s good work. He does a good job of talking and just being vocal and helping. I’m very appreciative of him. He’s done a lot.”</p><p>Tyrese Maxey told ClutchPoints he’s <a href="https://twitter.com/TyreseMaxey/status/1946370722164560110" rel="noopener">committing this offseason</a> to how he can help his team both on and off the ball.</p><p>“I’ve been doing a lot of different things [this summer],” Maxey added. “I’ve been working on a lot of like just posting and just trying to find ways to slow the game down and create for my teammates. I’ve got to be able to control the game at a better pace, I feel like, and being able to control the entire 48 minutes of it, whether that’s with the ball in my hands, without the ball in my hands, when I’m on the bench and I’m helping my teammates. That’s one step that I really want to take.”</p><p>Maxey wasn’t the only 76ers player to struggle through injuries last season.</p><p>Joel Embiid finished the 2024-25 regular season having played just 19 regular season games due to recurring knee injuries. He averaged some of the lowest numbers of his career at 23.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game while never truly appearing to be healthy on the basketball court.</p><p>Paul George also played just 41 games in the regular season, averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. The 16.2 point per game average was the lowest since his second year in the NBA.</p><p>Jared McCain appeared to be the Rookie of the Year frontrunner through early December before he suffered a torn meniscus that shut him down for the remainder of the season. McCain averaged 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists for Philadelphia, but only played 23 games.</p><p>More than anything, this 76ers team needs to stay healthy and build some on-court continuity because talent alone will only get them so far. Tyrese Maxey only played 52 games in what he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/exclusive-tyrese-maxey-on-new-balance-hero-pack-76ers-joel-embiid-and-more">called one of the most difficult seasons</a> of his career.</p><p>With a fresh start entering the 2025-26 season, Maxey is hoping he can take his Sixers to the next level.</p><p>In a lot of ways, Tyrese Maxey had a career year for the 76ers, averaging 26.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.8 steals per game in 37.7 minutes per game. He also, however, played a career-low 52 games after suffering a fracture to a finger on his right hand.</p><p>On top of that, the 76ers’ 24-win season despite adding Paul George last summer had fans trolling on social media throughout the season.</p><p>After having some time to see the messages and social media posts this summer, Maxey took to social media with a single message:</p><p>“Yall talking yall mess on this app this summer! It’s just like, ‘man, people are really getting stuff off their chest.’ Hey, I get it. Get it off, man. I’m not mad at it at all. Hey, if you’ve got something to say, speak it. That’s the world that we live in. In just 23 appearances, McCain averaged 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists for Philadelphia.</p><p>“So it wasn’t more of a personal thing or people talking about you?” Maxey was asked. “It’s just what you saw in general on social media?”</p><p>“No, I don’t take anything personal,” Maxey responded. “I live a great life. I’m blessed. I know that we didn’t perform the way we wanted to perform last year. That’s okay. You take down that on the chin. You take that as a challenge. You go out in the next year and you go out there and you prove people wrong and you make a step.”</p><p>The Sixers haven’t made many moves in free agency, but are are hoping their biggest additions to the roster will come in the form of No. 3 overall pick VJ Edgecomb and a flurry of key players returning to peak health. Joel Embiid, Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, and Jared McCain were clearly the 76ers’ best players last season, but all dealt with significant injuries.</p><p>If the Philadelphia 76ers are going to bounce back this season, it’ll have to start with health, first and foremost.</p><p>“The biggest thing is we got to get on the court together, we’ve got to be healthy and we got to have continuity. You can’t do anything if the guys aren’t together. If we aren’t together, if we aren’t all on the court, if we’re not all stepping in the right direction and it’s going to be extremely hard. So that’s my main goal.”</p><p>Last week, Maxey and New Balance launched the, “Hero Pack,” a superhero themed colorway for the Hesi Low V2’s and the 1906R’s.</p><p>“I think the inspiration is kind of in the name itself, the ‘Hero Pack,'” Maxey told ClutchPoints about his New Balance colorway. “It ties in three of the things that are very important to me. Basketball, shoes, and heroes. I think those things are some things that are very important in my life, on and off the court. Just being a hero on the court and trying to help my team win games. The silver lining for the 76ers was that they got the third pick in this year’s draft, which they used to select Baylor standout VJ Edgecombe.</p><p>One of the lowest moments of last season for the 76ers was a reported heated argument between Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey regarding Embiid’s alleged habit of showing up late to team meetings and things of that nature.</p><p>When that story got out to the media, Embiid said that “Whoever leaked that is a real piece of s—.”</p><p>Now, Embiid is revealing that he was indeed able to<a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45747447/joel-embiid-philadelphia-76ers-star-sees-you" rel="noopener"> track down the source</a>, per Dotun Akintoye of ESPN.</p><p>“I know who leaked it,” said Embiid. “…but I’m not going to — the past is the past. The one thing I’ll say is, it’s hard being around people that do those sorts of stuff. That goes back to the trust thing. Once you cross that — you can’t expect me to be part of a team meeting again. Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard led the charge in 2018 when he inked his deal, becoming the brand’s first big-name signee and releasing four signature models since.</p><p>While Maxey doesn’t have his own signature silhouette just yet, he’s been favoring the Hesi Low series over the last season. The shoes are marketed for speed and explosiveness, much like Maxey’s skills as a player. The shoes are made from synthetic uppers and feature a TPU heel plate for support. The iridescent New Balance logo gives this clean white colorway an extra pop to accent the complimentary colors.</p></figure><p>The 1906R is more of a utility lifestyle sneaker, suitable for walking, hiking, and the outdoors. Based in NB’s treaded outsoles, the colorway is subtly placed over the white underlaying material, accented by yellow contrast stitching along the TPU panels. The shoes feature light blue hues on the lace stays and “N” logo, finishing another very clean look for this shoe.</p><p>The two-shoe pack is set to release July 31, 2025 with the Hesi Low v2 coming in at $120 and the 1906R at $160. Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>After watching the rest of the Eastern Conference, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/hawks-news-nickeil-alexander-walker-sign-and-trade-with-timberwolves">especially the Atlanta Hawks</a>, make move after move to improve their roster, the Philadelphia 76ers have finally joined the party, signing 24-year-old forward Trendon Watford to a <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1939864272051515417" rel="noopener">two-year, $5.3 million deal</a>, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.</p><p>Standing 6-foot-9, 240 pounds, Watford can do a little bit of everything with the ball in his hands, from playing position versatile defense to hitting 34.9 percent of his 3-pointers, and even passing the ball with impressive finesse for a forward his size.</p><p>And no one is more excited about the deal than Tyrese Maxey, who just so happens to be <a href="https://x.com/SixersAdam/status/1939864581670936669" rel="noopener">good friends with the newest member</a> of the 76ers, according to The Philly Voice’s Adam Aaronson.</p><p>The younger brother of Christian Watford, Watford came into his own at LSU, where he played two seasons as a score-first forward. Though he ultimately went undrafted, he landed in Portland for two years as a reserve forward before taking his talents to Brooklyn after being waived in the summer of 2023, where he played for the last two seasons.</p><p>Free to sign wherever he wanted, Charania noted he chose Philadelphia because of the role they had to offer, even if his deal is seemingly worth at or just above the minimum for a player with his years of service.</p><p>What does this mean for the potential return of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/76ers-news-guerschon-yabuseles-excited-approach-to-upcoming-free-agency">everyone’s favorite French power forward, Guerschon Yabusele</a>? Well, that depends on how the 76ers signed the former Net, as if he’s on a minimum deal, which means basically nothing, but if Daryl Morey dug into the $5.7 million in MLE money he could spend, it could potentially spell the end of the “Dancing Bear’s” run in South Philadelphia.</p><p>Still, whether Watford was signed to replace Yabusele or to play alongside him, his addition to a 76ers team that has been in desperate need of additional bodies at the power forward spot is important nonetheless, as he brings size and versatility to a team that has lacked both.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

They can take a talented prospect or <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/nba-rumors-76ers-engage-spurs-trade-no-2-pick">trade the No. 3 pick</a>. The trade option is on the table because the 76ers still have Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey. That trio only played 15 games together last season, but it seems they are giving this experiment one more season.</p><p>According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer at <i>The Stein Line</i>, the 76ers are content with bringing back their big three despite only appearing in 15 games together and having a 7-8 record. <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/the-latest-nba-draft-intel-kevin?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=392205&amp;post_id=166283635&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;r=39f60&amp;triedRedirect=true&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">They want to give this group one more shot together</a> to compete for an NBA championship and give the talent more time to gel because the sample size was so small.</p><p>The two insiders elaborated more on what Philadelphia plans to do: “By simply staying at No. 3, Philadelphia would introduce an $11.1 million salary onto its books for 2025-26. So the Sixers expect to operate near (or maybe even above) the second apron for this upcoming campaign, sources say, as they prepare to give Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey another shot to try to contend for a championship after they managed to appear in just 15 games (7-8) together this season.”</p><p>The big three of Embiid, George, and Maxey dealt with numerous injuries last season, and all three did not finish the season. It was not impressive, but with all three back next season, they think they can make it work after more time together and contend for a championship.</p><p>Philadelphia’s desire to remain in the top three is where the draft could get interesting, because Rutgers forward Ace Bailey <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/sources-ace-bailey-calls-off-76ers-meeting-workout-before-nba-draft">abruptly canceled his meeting and workout with the team</a>. If Bailey is no longer an option, the 76ers have a few options, but Baylor guard V.J. Edgecombe might be the frontrunner now.</p><p>Philadelphia is one of the weirder teams in the draft lottery because it genuinely has talent. That trio speaks for itself, but Jared McCain emerged as a reliable rookie before getting injured, and then Quentin Grimes exploded onto the scene while the team was dealing with injuries to its big three. Kelly Oubre Jr. is also worth mentioning as a key veteran.</p><p>Despite the roster being hamstrung money-wise, adding one of the best rookies at the top of the draft only helps the 76ers’ total potential next season, when they are going all-in for an NBA championship.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
