And while Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, and co. began what they hope will be a season culminating in an NBA Championship, Victor Oladipo played in what he hopes will be the start of his return to the NBA court.</p><p>A two-time NBA All-Star, Oladipo joined the Loong-Lions on a short-term contract through the NBA’s preseason. The Chinese team is in the midst of a three-game stretch in the United States that started with the San Antonio Spurs on October 6th, moved to Southern California for a matchup with the LA Clippers, and will conclude with a contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 13th.</p><p>The Clippers defeated the Loong-Lions handily on Thursday night, 142-95, but Oladipo put on a strong performance with 24 points, five assists, two steals, and one blocked shot on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from three.</p><p>After the game, the 33-year old says he’s still pursuing an NBA comeback despite being perceived as, “old,” in the NBA.</p><p>“I don’t believe in age, bro,” Victor Oladipo told ClutchPoints in an exclusive interview. “I know the world might tell me I’m 33, but I don’t feel 33. I know I’ve been through a lot and you’ve got a decision to make once you go through a lot. It’ll make you or break you, and I choose to be made. So I’m just doing my best. I’m challenging myself every day, taking it one day at a time, and enjoying the marathon.”</p><p>Oladipo certainly didn’t look like a 33-year old on the court, where he routinely showcased his speed with the ball, his athleticism in transition, and his his shot-making ability against high-level defenders like Kawhi Leonard.</p><p>In the first half alone, Oladipo recorded team-highs of 21 points and five assists in 18 minutes and 33 seconds of play. His five dimes directly led to 14 points — four three-pointers and one two-pointer — keeping the Clippers’ lead over the Loong Lions at the half at a shocking five points, 69-64.</p><p>Victor Oladipo believes he should be in the NBA, and while the guard admits he has an uphill battle due to his history with significant injuries, this already wasn’t a player who needed much motivation.</p><p>“Honestly, if we was in a practice gym or in the back of a dump truck, it don’t matter,” Oladipo said to ClutchPoints. “As long as there’s a rectangle and people there competing, I’m going to play at the highest level I can.</p><p>“The NBA is where I’m supposed to be at. And if the opportunity presents itself, I’m going to be ready. I’ve been ready, if I’m being honest, but yes, I’m ready.”</p><p>Oladipo is a two-time NBA All-Star with the Indiana Pacers, and appeared poised for a rise in the ranks of the NBA’s elite after being traded to the Indiana Pacers along with Domantas Sabonis in exchange for Paul George.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Victor-Oladipo-drives-against-James-Harden-during-the-Rockets-Pacers-game.jpg"><figcaption>Thomas B. Shea-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>In the 2017-18 season, his first with the Pacers, Oladipo averaged 23.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.4 steals while shooting a career-high both from the field (47.7 percent) and from three (37.1 percent).</p><p>But the guard has suffered a ruptured right quadriceps tendon in January 2019 that held him out of the entire 2018-19 season as well as most of the 2019-20 campaign. He then bounced around the league, playing with the Houston Rockets, and Miami Heat before suffering a torn patellar tendon in his right knee, requiring another surgery and officially putting an end to his 2022-23 season.</p><p>“I’ve been getting closer to source,” Oladipo said of his two years away from the NBA spotlight. “I’ve been getting closer to God, and truly understanding who I am and where I am.</p><p>Despite multiple run-ins with knee and ankle injuries, Victor Olapipo is built for the grind of this comeback attempt.</p><p>“It’s because of my soul,” Oladipo said when asked about his resilience. “My soul was made to carry heavy burdens and to overcome them. I don’t recognize myself as a normal, a norm, and I don’t compare myself to other people’s stories or however they’ve been through or whatever they’ve been through. I just focus on myself, my journey, and continue to better myself.”</p><p>Even Clippers star Kawhi Leonard, who finished with a team-high 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting and 5-of-8 from three, recognized how impressive Oladipo looked in the game.</p><p>“Vic looked good,” Kawhi Leonard told ClutchPoints. “I thought he was moving well. You see that transition lob he caught, knocking down his three-point shot, getting to the paint. I think he looked good to me. He’s moving well. I mean, that’s all you want to really see. He said he feels great. And I’m just happy for him.”</p><p>Tyronn Lue, then the coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers, had to gameplan for Oladipo and his Pacers during the 2017-18 postseason.</p><p>“He took us to Game 7 in Cleveland when he was in Indiana,” <a href="https://x.com/LawMurrayTheNU/status/1976455857631264841" rel="noopener">Lue recalled</a>. “His ability to guard, defend, but also to get downhill and to get to the basket. He was relentless. He’s a relentless scorer, so I’m just happy to see him back healthy again and getting an opportunity to play basketball again.”</p><p>Jordan Miller, who checked into the game two minutes after tip-off to replace the injured Bogdan Bogdanovic, also liked what he saw from Oladipo in the time they shared the floor together.</p><p>“I agree he should be in the NBA,” Miller added. “I mean, he’s a pro player. He still has quickness, still has his ability to shot-make. But his journey, at the end of the day, is his journey. But he remains hopeful and ready to join a team when called upon.</p><p>“You know, it’s different. The CBA is different. The business is different. I’ve just got to wait and see. Time will tell. I’m kind of coming out of nowhere, so I don’t think I was a part of people’s business plans as far as the game goes. Hopefully, I get an opportunity soon. I’ll be ready for whatever.”</p><p>Many teams throughout the NBA have centered their operations around the new CBA, focusing on avoiding the dreaded second apron unless they’ve built a team with a legitimate chance to win an NBA Championship.</p><p>“[NBA teams] tell me I look good, but again, you can tell someone that, but there’s only so much you can do, right? There’s a [salary] cap. It’s the business aspect of it. Again, I just have to be patient, and I’m staying patient and continuing to better myself and prepare myself for any opportunity.”</p><p>Through two appearances in the preseason, Oladipo is averaging 22 points, 2.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.5 steals, and 1.0 block per game on 51.6 percent shooting from the field. His last opportunity in this preseason will be Monday, October 13th when the Loong-Lions visit the Minnesota Timberwolves.</p><p>There are likely no shortage of suitors ready to swoop in and sign Victor Oladipo under the right circumstances. He didn’t play that season as he was recovering from a severe injury, seeing Memphis waive him in February.</p><p>The veteran guard went overseas as he signed with the Loong-Lions, knowing he can continue <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1975358451812589789" rel="noopener">playing at a solid level</a> with his talent. Against the Spurs, he didn’t disappoint.</p><p>In 29 minutes of action, Oladipo finished with a stat line of 20 points, five rebounds, five steals, three assists, and a block. But despite his efforts, the Loong-Lions didn’t have enough as they lost in a 119-88 blowout to the Spurs.</p><p>San Antonio overwhelmed the Chinese side from start to finish, especially in the first half. They won the scoring battle 74-45 throughout the initial 24 minutes of play. Even as Guangzhou won the third quarter 27-18, it wasn’t enough for them to pull off a rally as San Antonio controlled the momentum.</p><p>Shot accuracy, rebounding and playmaking made the difference in this matchup. The Spurs excelled with shooting splits of 53.8% overall, including 39.5% from downtown, while grabbing 52 rebounds and creating 31 assists. It wasn’t the same for the Loong-Lions, having splits of 37.7% and 32.4% while securing just 30 rebounds and dishing out 19 assists.</p><p>Three players scored in double-digits on Guangzhou’s behalf, including Oladipo. Frank Kaminsky had a solid display with 22 points, seven rebounds, a steal, and a block. He shot 8-of-15 overall, including 5-of-10 from three. Meanwhile, Chen Guohao came next with 13 points and three rebounds.</p><p>With the blowout win, the Spurs will look forward to their next matchup, being on the road. Fedor would then say that the team was <a href="https://www.cleveland.com/cavs/2025/07/are-the-cavs-done-making-roster-improvements-hey-chris.html?outputType=amp" rel="noopener">“in attendance”</a> for a workout in Las Vegas that Oladipo had as he looks to revive his NBA career.</p><p>“The Cavs will remain opportunistic, always looking for potential improvements,” Fedor wrote. “Does an unforeseen maneuver pop up over the next few months? Hard to predict. A source tells Cleveland.com that a member of the front office was in attendance for Victor Oladipo’s recent Vegas-based workout. Oladipo, 33, is trying to resuscitate his NBA career, proving to NBA decision-makers that he is healthy and can still be effective.”</p><p>“Cavs chairman Dan Gilbert was once a massive Oladipo fan, eager to select the bouncy Indiana star with the first-overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft — until David Griffin, assistant general manager at the time, campaigned for UNLV’s Anthony Bennett,” Fedor continued. “The rest is history. Could Gilbert get his man more than a decade later? Does Oladipo fit? As Fedor mentioned, the team can’t afford to give a player more than the veteran’s minimum, which is usually around $3 million, a deal that Oladipo could probably want since he’s been out of the NBA.</p><p>Oladipo last played minutes for the Miami Heat before suffering from a torn patellar tendon in April of 2023 and although he would be traded two more times, he never cameback on the field. Another position that Cleveland could look to is “another versatilie wing” as said by Fedor.</p><p>“It’s hard to pinpoint a specific position,” Fedor wrote. “It seems the Cavs are open-minded, searching for the right stylistic fit. Another versatile wing will always be under consideration given coach Kenny Atkinson’s switch-heavy defensive philosophy. Don’t rule out another ballhandler either.”</p><p>As Fedor mentioned, another ballhandler could be looked at as besides Darius Garland’s injury and recovery; the injury history of Lonzo Ball and the “readiness” of Craig Porter Jr. are in question. Multiple team sources in attendance came away impressed, with Oladipo described as being in excellent shape as he pursues another comeback,” reported Jeremy Woo of ESPN.</p><p>Woo also reported that “there’s currently some consideration around the league that he might eventually work his way into a roster spot, as teams finalize plans to round out their depth entering the fall.”</p><p>For his part, Oladipo has made no secret of the fact that he wants to return to the NBA landscape, where he was an All-Star on two separate occasions.</p><p>“I feel so great right now!! Better than I felt in the last 7 years mind, body and soul. I know I am a fighter! I know I am a warrior! I have seen every lens this game and this league has to offer. I know I can help any team in any role win in any way! I also know the people want to see me succeed in this game and play at the highest level again. My injuries are behind me and it will never happen again! He and the Pacers were poised to give the Oklahoma City Thunder their all in Game 7 on Sunday night, and he was on track for a monster game after hitting three of his four three-point attempts in the first few minutes, only for him to succumb to injury.</p><p>This proved to be too much for the Pacers to overcome, as they ended up suffering a 103-91 defeat to dash their championship hopes completely.</p><p>Haliburton’s injury set the NBA world ablaze with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/lakers-news-lebron-james-reaction-tyrese-haliburton-injury">LeBron James and Caitlin Clark expressing their support for the Pacers star</a> in the aftermath of his unfortunate injury.</p><p>Joining those with a strong reaction to Haliburton’s injury was former Pacers guard Victor Oladipo, who wanted to <a href="https://x.com/VicOladipo/status/1936959776212009011" rel="noopener">fight the system</a> and stick it to the man, seeing as he’s someone who saw his career get cut short by a serious lower-body injury.</p><p>“In the Finals? So we just going keep playing right? Like its okay right? Like it ain’t happen huh? Like this is just part of it right? But what would this play off run be without Hali?</p><p>“What about Dame what about JT and so many others. I bet we will just blame it on the moment though lol and Hey he got millions right so he will be alright huh? So what truly matters? It doesn’t have to be a norm or just part of the game anymore in any sport. We can and will protect the players better. Yall enjoy the rest of the game though. He ended up declining during the 2018-19 season before rupturing his quad tendon in early 2019. Oladipo then re-injured the same body part in 2021, forcing him to take a veteran minimum.</p><p>He ended up being a member of the 2023 Miami Heat squad that made it to the NBA Finals, but all he could play was three games in that playoff run before he tore his left patellar tendon. That was the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/nba-news-victor-oladipo-cryptic-post-fans-worried">final time Oladipo stepped on an NBA court</a> with injuries ending his career at just 31 years of age.</p><p>This is why Oladipo is going to be a loud voice when it comes to protecting players. It’s not quite clear what the former Pacers guard is lobbying for, but it’s safe to say that he wants the NBA to step up in terms of shielding their talent from injuries. Their stars have been dropping like flies due to Achilles injuries, and Oladipo doesn’t want anyone to suffer the same fate he did.</p><p>Perhaps some of the changes the NBA can make is to shorten the season, loosen the restrictions for award eligibility (from 65 games to perhaps 60 or even 55) to encourage more rest and load management and increase the number of rest days between playoff games.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
