After 13 seasons, Klay Thompson decided to leave the Warriors in free agency; while this was necessary for both parties as the situation had gone south over the past two years, this still leaves a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/why-stephen-curry-warriors-believe-relevancy-klay-thompson-loss">major void for the Dubs at shooting guard</a> — the position Thompson has filled since he came into the league in 2011.</p><p>Now, the Warriors have assembled for themselves a solid roster with a ton of depth in the aftermath of Thompson’s departure. They brought in De’Anthony Melton and Buddy Hield, two shooting guards who can help replace Thompson’s production, while they also have an in-house option in Brandin Podziemski who could take on a larger role in his sophomore season.</p><p>It’s not quite clear yet who head coach Steve Kerr will name as the Warriors’ starter in the backcourt alongside Stephen Curry. But for Victor Oladipo, who made an appearance on ESPN as an analyst, the choice for the Dubs <a href="https://twitter.com/ESPNNBA/status/1844102381136445946" rel="noopener">is rather clear</a>.</p><p>“All three players are great in their own right. But if I had to choose to pair next to Steph, I would have to go with De’Anthony Melton,” Oladipo said. “He’s shot pretty much 38 percent from three his whole career. Melton has a quick release and he can space the floor via catch-and-shoots, and he can also <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-brandin-podziemski-identifies-gary-payton-iis-twin-brother-on-roster">pick up opposing ballhandlers</a> from 94 feet the way he did against James Harden on Saturday. Moreover, he has the motor to make things happen, whether by being disruptive or by fighting for loose balls.</p><p>The fight for the starting job will continue on for the rest of preseason and training camp. But skillset-wise, Melton does indeed make a ton of sense for the Warriors as Curry’s backcourt partner.</p><h2><b>Warriors conduct three-way battle for starting SG spot</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Steve-Kerr-and-Stephen-Curry-with-the-Warriors.jpg"></figure><p>Not many teams have the luxury of choice when it comes to who to start at shooting guard. The Warriors, in that regard, are fortunate. The three options that they have as a potential starter at the two also provide different dimensions to the team. Now, it remains unclear which dimension the Warriors will be prioritizing.</p><p>If the Warriors want better two-way balance, they could start De’Anthony Melton alongside Stephen Curry. Melton has the length and instincts to smother opposing ballhandlers, and he is active in the passing lanes as well. He is a streaky shooter, however, and he doesn’t provide much playmaking. But he is far and away the best perimeter defender the Warriors have at either guard position.</p><p>If they want a player who can keep the offense humming, Brandin Podziemski is their guy. Podziemski has impeccable feel for the game, and his movement off the basketball as well as his understanding of the Warriors system has made him a favorite within the organization.</p><p>With the departure of Klay Thompson, the Warriors could then roll with one of the greatest shooters of all time to replace him in Buddy Hield. Only Curry has <a href="https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=player+with+most+3+pointers+made+nba+since+2016-17">made more triples</a> than Hield since the latter began his NBA career in 2016.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The 32-year-old veteran guard is in the twilight years of his career due to devastating injuries.</p><p>After being named to the All-NBA Third Team, All-Defensive First Team, and Most Improved Player in 2018, Oladipo was on the cusp of entering his prime. But countless injuries ultimately derailed a stellar, promising career.</p><p>The two-time All-Star (2018, 2019), who last played in Game 3 of the Miami Heat’s first-round series against the Milwaukee Bucks in 2023, underwent his third major surgery in four years. Oladipo tore his left patellar tendon, which forced him to sit the entire 2023-24 campaign.</p><p>Oladipo was traded to three different teams last season. Last summer, the Miami Heat sent him to the Oklahoma City Thunder. By training camp, Victor was heading to Houston in a deal involving Kevin Porter Jr. and then to Memphis when the Rockets traded for Steven Adams. As of right now, he’s a free agent after being waived by the Memphis Grizzlies in April before even playing a game for them.</p><p>The two-time All-Star worried NBA fans on Wednesday morning, igniting possible retirement rumors after posting a rather <a href="https://x.com/VicOladipo/status/1813592221024743890" rel="noopener">cryptic message</a> on X:</p><p>“Good morning I just want to let everyone know it’s a very different time in my life and I can’t share my time and energy anymore. I want to make everyone happy and be there for everybody especially those I care about, but I’m now called to walk a different path. I hope everyone can respect and understand that. You’ll soon see why. Peace be Unto You. #OlaHim🤹🏿‍♂️🥷🏾🤲🏿”</p><p>That surely sounds like Oladipo is considering retirement after 10 seasons. For what it’s worth, the ex-Indiana Hoosier didn’t play at all in 2023-24.</p><h2><b>Injuries derailed Victor Oladipo’s career</b></h2><p>Victor Oladipo came into the NBA in 2013 with the Orlando Magic and quickly made his presence felt. Each season after that, his numbers improved, averaging a career-best 23.1 points in 75 contests in 2017-18 with the Indiana Pacers. Following the season, however, everything went downhill.</p><p>Oladipo hasn’t played more than 42 games in a single campaign since then and has bounced around quite a bit. He spent two seasons with the Heat but suited up a mere 50 times. While Oladipo still showed flashes of brilliance off the bench, he simply couldn’t stay healthy. In the 2023 playoffs, he tore the patellar tendon in his left knee.</p><p>That summer, Miami traded him to the OKC Thunder, one of his former squads, before they sent Dipo to the Houston Rockets, another team he once played for. Oladipo didn’t last long there either as the Rockets shipped him to Memphis who quickly waived him.</p><p>It’s completely understandable why Oladipo is feeling dejected about his basketball career. The 31-year-old is recovering from knee surgery after suffering a torn patellar tendon during the spring of 2023. And you just want to see him get out there, be healthy, so he can contribute.”</p><p>He was a productive scorer with the likes of the Oklahoma City Thumder, Indiana Pacers, and Rockets until the Heat signed him in March of 2021. His tenure with Miami was a disappointing one as while he showed flashes of his former self, he would be plagued with injuries, an aspect about him before he stepped foot in a Heat uniform.</p><h2><b>Spoelstra calls the move away from Oladipo a “tough decision”</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Erik_Spoelstra_keeps_it_real_after_Suns_loss_copy.webp"></figure><p>Oladipo would suffer from a torn patellar tendon in his left knee in Game 3 of the first round of the playoffs last season which kicked off the Heat’s miraculous playoff run that led them to the NBA Finals. He would be traded back to the Thunder, but never played for them until he was dealt to the Rockets.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-bam-adebayo-speak-openly-about-injuries-upcoming-home-stand" rel="noopener">Spoelstra talks about</a> the relationships Oladipo made with the Heat and said the move to deal him away was a “tough decision.” However, the head coach views the former Miami player as “Heat family.”</p><p>“Those are tough decisions an organization has to make, particularly when you have great relationships with people,” Spoelstra said via The Sun Sentinel. “That’s how we view Vic. He’s Heat family. We want to see him get back out there one way or another.”</p><p>The team even catches up with him through texts and even a facetime session where the Heat touched base with Oladipo. The best trait about the former Miami player according to Spoelstra was his “positive spirit.”</p><p>“He has the fortitude and he has this incredible positive spirit that you could only understand if you’ve been around him,” Spoelstra said. “Texts and we all FaceTimed him earlier in the season.”</p><h2><b>Spoelstra said if any player can comeback from adversity, it’s Oladipo</b></h2><p>Oladipo spent three seasons with the Heat, but the games played was miniscule as he played in 12 games through his first two seasons before participating in 42 last year. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-bam-adebayo-gets-major-erik-spoelstra-admission-following-suns-game" rel="noopener">Spoelstra mentioned how</a> he worked himself back up to be a reliable option off the bench.</p><p>“He finally worked himself back with us, where he was really contributing,” Spoelstra said. “That game that he injured himself, he really was putting his fingerprint on that.”</p><p>While some people might be ready to call it quits on Oladipo’s career, Spoelstra is not as he said the University of Indiana product is still “young” at 31. None of this was expected as the Heat finished the regular season as one of the play-in teams. They even lost their play-in opener to the Atlanta Hawks and had to go to a second play-in game against the Chicago Bulls. They ended up knocking off the No. 1 seed Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. They suffered some key losses, however, with injuries to Tyler Herro and Victor Oladipo. Oladipo suffered a torn patellar tendon in his left knee during Game 3 against the Bucks. Prior to that, he had been averaging 11.5 points per game, 3.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals with shooting splits of 52.6 percent shooting from the field, 40 percent shooting from the three-point line and 33.3 percent shooting from the free-throw line in the playoffs.</p><p>Oladipo had made a remarkable comeback from several surgeries over the past few seasons to become a reliable member of the Heat’s rotation. During the regular season he was averaging 10.7 points, 3.0 rebounds. 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 33 percent from the three-point line in 42 games in a little over 26 minutes of play.</p><p>As the Heat’s playoff journey continues, they will certainly have Oladipo as emotional support.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The two-time All-Star collapsed to the floor during a lay-up attempt because of what was later diagnosed as a torn patellar tendon in his left knee. Oladipo’s season is now over and he will now have to go through another lengthy rehab process as he recovers from this latest major injury.</p><p>Despite the devastating turn of events, however, Oladipo is keeping his head up. Speaking to reporters ahead of Monday’s Game 4 matchup against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra revealed Oladipo’s inspiring message amid his heartbreaking injury:</p><p>“He had the outlook you would expect. With this, it marks the second time during his three-year tenure with the franchise that his campaign has been cut short due to injury.</p><p>However, though initial reports seemed to be rather grim when it came to <a href="https://theathletic.com/4444956/2023/04/24/nba-playoffs-trouble-meter-dillon-brooks/" rel="noopener">his expected recovery timeline</a> being up to one year, <a href="https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1650536474624835588" rel="noopener">it is now being suggested</a> that his rehabilitation could take just half of this aforementioned time, as per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.</p><p>“Sources say there is optimism Miami’s Victor Oladipo will be able to resume basketball activities in six months and return to action next season. Oladipo is set to undergo surgery on his left knee this week,” Charania wrote via his personal Twitter account.</p><p>Since 2017-18, the two-time All-Star has endured a tremendous amount of harsh luck in the injury department.</p><p>Over the last five seasons, Victor Oladipo has only managed to suit up in 138 out of a potential total of 390 regular season games and has seen his stock drop from being considered a legitimate franchise cornerstone to a reserve option along the way.</p><p>After having signed a two-year, $18 million deal this past summer, the shooting guard went on to appear in 42 games in 2022-23, his most since 2017-18, and posted averages of 10.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.4 steals in 26.3 minutes a night.</p><p>Despite yet another hardship, Victor Oladipo intends to “continue his NBA playing career” <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/article274634916.html" rel="noopener">once his rehabilitation is complete</a>, as per a report by the Miami Herald‘s Anthony Chiang.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Heat veteran <a href="https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1650193199879671809" rel="noopener">will miss the rest of the playoffs</a> with a torn patellar tendon in his left knee, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.</p><p>Oladipo suffered the injury in Miami’s dominant Game 3 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. He had made quite the impact in his 19 minutes off the bench before the injury, scoring eight points on 4-of-6 shooting while playing stellar defense. The 30-year-old went down in the fourth quarter in garbage time, marring the incredible victory that put his team up 2-1 in the series as Giannis Antetokounmpo misses time.</p><p>Everybody in the arena could tell the injury was bad when Victor Oladipo went down in a heap on a drive to the basket. Heat star Jimmy Butler was even seen on the bench getting extremely emotional.</p><p>This was an especially tough thing to see given it’s not Oladipo’s first devastating knee injury. He suffered a ruptured quad tendon as a member of the Indiana Pacers in the 2018-19 season and hasn’t been the same player since.</p><p>Oladipo played just 19 games in the 2019-20 season after the injury. He played 33 games between the Pacers, Houston Rockets and Heat in the 2020-21 season before undergoing another knee surgery. The guard remained in Miami and played just eight games in 2021-22.</p><p>Oladipo then re-signed with the Heat again and appeared in 42 games in the 2022-23 regular season. He averaged 10.7 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals while shooting 39.7% from the field and 33.0% from 3-point range.</p><p>Now, Victor Oladipo faces another long recovery after this latest injury diagnosis.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
