Yet, the 32-year-old made the decision <a href="https://twitter.com/JLew1050/status/1630675476615249923" rel="noopener">with his playing time</a> and the opportunity to re-establish his value in mind, according to TSN’s Josh Lewenburg.</p><p>Barton, an 11-year veteran, has long been one of the more entertaining playmakers in the league. With a Kobe Bryant-like mindset when it comes to scoring and the ability to impact the game in multiple facets, it makes sense that he would grow disgruntled with his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/wizards-news-washington-buyout-agreement-will-barton" rel="noopener">situation with the Washington Wizards</a>.</p><p>Nonetheless, Barton’s time with the Raptors hasn’t gotten off to an ideal start, with him playing just four minutes in his Raptors debut after averaging 19.6 minutes per game with the Wizards this season.</p><p>Unfortunately, the prospects of Barton receiving much more playing time moving forward don’t look too good. Established 3-and-D wing Gary Trent Jr. is in the rotation as the sixth man. The steadily progressing Precious Achiuwa plays an important role for the Raptors frontcourt, while Chris Boucher remains an intriguing presence in the second unit.</p><p>Furthermore, to give Barton more minutes would mean less scoring and playmaking opportunities for Fred VanVleet, Scottie Barnes, OG Anunoby, and Pascal Siakam. The Raptors may not want to take the ball of the hands of the aforementioned players, and nobody could truly blame them.</p><p>That said, with the Raptors shooting 33.5 percent from 3-point range (27th in the NBA) and averaging 112.6 points per game (23rd in the NBA), they do need help in areas where Barton excels. The team has won eight out of its last ten games and is now only 1.5 games back of the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.</p><p>To gear up for a playoff push, the Raptors recently made some roster moves to help shore up the team’s wing depth. On Tuesday, the Raptors <a href="https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1630666747366744065?s=20" rel="noopener">picked up wing</a> <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/wizards-news-washington-buyout-agreement-will-barton" rel="noopener">Will Barton</a> off the buyout market, per a tweet from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. To make room for Barton, Toronto released <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/raptors-news-scottie-barnes-goes-full-bo-cruz-fanboy-over-juancho-hernangomez-signing" rel="noopener">Juancho Hernangomez</a>, who appeared in 42 games with the Raptors in 2022-23 and started ten of them.</p><p>Barton, 32, has played for three different teams across his 11 years in the NBA. He averaged 7.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game across 40 appearances with the Washington Wizards this season (zero starts).</p><p>The former University of Memphis standout is shooting the ball very accurately from behind the three-point arc in the 2022-23 campaign, at least by his standards — Barton’s current 38.0% three-point percentage is the second-highest of his pro career, worse than only his 2020-21 season percentage.</p><p>It’s incredible how much a team’s season can change in a matter of a few weeks in the NBA. It wasn’t long ago when folks said that the Raptors should blow up their core and tank. However, during the games he was able to play for long minutes, the veteran swingman has shown he can still produce at a high level. In a three-game stretch in mid-December when he averaged 30 minutes a night, he put up an average of 19.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.0 dimes.</p><p>While it’s unlikely he’ll be able to do that for longer stretches, it remains true that he could best the bench unit of any team he joins.</p><p>The Sixers could definitely use his help as they prepare for what should be another playoff appearance. However, with Barton losing his spot in Washington’s rotation, it makes sense for him to seek other opportunities in hopes of a playoff run.</p><p>Barton last played on Feb. 8 as the Wizards worked to buy out Barton. He previously had reported interest with several<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-bucks-nets-linked-to-will-barton-trade"> teams</a>, including the Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets. Or, a return to the Denver Nuggets could be in order. But to Wizards’ forward Kyle Kuzma, Washington’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/wizards-news-it-was-a-shock-will-barton-gets-real-on-trade-to-washington-after-8-year-nuggets-run">Barton decision</a> wasn’t so trivial.</p><p>The Wizards are working on a <a href="https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1623804707230687234">contract buyout</a> for Barton, via ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Following that news, a fan on Twitter suggested that Barton would be a good fit for the Phoenix Suns due to his defense and shot-making ability. Starting 51 games for Washington this season, Kuzma has averaged 21.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and four assists per game. His points and assists would both be career-highs while his rebounds would only come second to last year’s total.</p><p>Kuzma has a $13 million player option for next season. With how well he has played for Washington, it would be best for the Wizards to convince him to stay. He has proven he belongs in the team’s starting lineup.</p><p>The same cannot be said for Barton. After a successful eight-year stint with the Nuggets, Barton’s status with the Wizards quickly dipped.
