However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-kings-still-interested-kyle-kuzma-trade-demar-derozan-move">Sacramento is still working</a> the phones as it tries to make another headlining move.</p><p>The Kings are <a href="https://kings-beat.beehiiv.com/p/kings-take-swing-demar-derozan-done-building-roster" rel="noopener">especially targeting two specific players</a>, via ESPN’s James Ham.</p><p>“According to league sources, the Kings are still working the phones looking for at least one more piece to put them to put them over the top,” Ham said. “The targets are the same as they have been for the last week, with both Kyle Kuzma and Lauri Markkanen high on their list. With DeMar DeRozan locked in, the team now has clarity on their assets and where they stand salary-wise.”</p><p>Kuzma or <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-kings-substantial-lauri-markkanen-trade-offer-didnt-include-1-key-piece">Markkanen would bolster the lineup</a> even further, most likely sliding DeRozan into the backcourt alongside point guard De’Aaron Fox. However, Sacramento would have to give up a significant amount of assets for either player.</p><p>What would it take to get one of these deals done?</p><h2><b>The Kings will have to cough up more draft picks, and possibly another bench player</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Jazz-Lauri-Markkanen.jpg"><figcaption>© Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Markkanen may be difficult to <a href="https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10127472-nba-trade-rumors-kings-protected-keegan-murray-in-lauri-markkanen-talks-with-jazz" rel="noopener">land this off-season</a>, as the Jazz reportedly wanted Keegan Murray in exchange, via Bleacher Report’s Zach Bachar.</p><p>“While the Kings were reportedly interested in Markkanen, they didn’t want to give up Murray after his improved second season,” Bachar said. “The 23-year-old’s averages of 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game during his 2023-24 campaign all represented increases from his rookie-season marks.”</p><p>Murray, who’s still just 23, could make an even bigger jump in his third year, which would be ideal for Sacramento.</p><p>“He also remained an effective long-range shooter, connecting on 35.8 percent of his 6.6 three-point attempts each night,” Bachar continued. “As Sacramento attempts to bounce back from a play-in tournament exit after winning 46 games in the regular season, Murray should still be an important piece of the Kings’ starting unit with DeRozan in the mix.”</p><p>If Markkanen is off the table, expect Kuzma to be next in line. The veteran small forward thrived on the Wizards last season, scoring 22.6 points per game on 46.3% shooting, with 6.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists. He’d be a more than satisfactory consolation prize, especially because he may be cheaper than Markkanen.</p><p>Washington wants at least <a href="https://www.si.com/nba/kings/sacramento-kings-news/kings-interested-wizards-kyle-kuzma-out-pelicans-ingram" rel="noopener">two first-round picks</a> and Kevin Huerter for Kuzma, via Sports Illustrated. This would be preferable to giving up Murray, as Huerter is a decent role player, but doesn’t have the same upside. He studied journalism and communication at UConn.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Sacramento Kings made a big move to acquire DeMar DeRozan in a sign-and-trade with the Chicago Bulls, but before they made that move, they made an <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5621320/2024/07/07/demar-derozan-kings-trade-sacramento-celebration/?source=emp_shared_article" rel="noopener">aggressive pursuit</a> of Lauri Markkanen of the Utah Jazz while protecting Keegan Murray in discussions.</p><p>“The Kings went hard after the Utah Jazz’s Lauri Markkanen earlier in the week, protecting Keegan Murray in the discussions but putting on the table what they believe was a substantial enough picks-based offer, team sources said,” Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports. “But they put a deadline to their side of the deal, needing an answer quickly considering the urgency of the dissolving market.”</p><p>The Jazz and Danny Ainge ultimately did not meet that deadline, which resulted in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-news-deaaron-fox-feels-demar-derozan-partnership">the Kings pivoting</a> to DeMar DeRozan. There reportedly is skepticism around the NBA that Danny Ainge actually will trade Markkanen, who is under contract for this upcoming season before being scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent. Ainge and the Jazz could still move Markkanen before the coming season’s trade deadline.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grading-kings-bulls-spurs-demar-derozan-trade">The Kings heard</a> that DeRozan would have interest when they pivoted quickly to him, and they had multiple veteran players, along with his former Toronto Raptors teammate and current assistant coach Leandro Barbosa, according to Slater.</p><p>To create financial flexibility, the Kings dealt Harrison Barnes to the San Antonio Spurs in the trade for DeRozan, which included three teams. It took a pick swap for the Kings to get the Spurs to take Harrison Barnes’ contract, but it was a price that was viewed as worth it by Sacramento. Now, DeRozan forms a “big three” with De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. In an increasingly competitive Western Conference, this is a move that gives the Kings more star power. He has played two seasons in the NBA, and he has been a solid shooter in those seasons.</p><p>Murray’s three-point percentage was better in his rookie season (41.1%) but ended up better in his sophomore season (35.8%). However, Murray’s two point percentage improved (56%) compared to his first year (52.7%), according to Basketball reference. Murray also took more two-point shots in his second season as a result of getting more minutes.</p><p>Murray finished fifth in the rookie of the year race in his first season, when he <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/murrake02.html" rel="noopener">averaged 12.2 points</a> per game. He put up 15.2 points per game in his second year. It will be interesting to see his usage and impact on this year’s team.</p><p>Obviously, the Kings have belief in Murray long-term if they are refusing to put him in a trade for Markkanen. However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-kings-a-dark-horse-demar-derozan-suitor">Sacramento may be gearing up</a> for a headlining transaction any minute now.</p><p>The Kings <a href="https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1809632331944108522" rel="noopener">meeting up with</a> Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan, via The Athletic’s Shams Charania.</p><p>“Sources: DeMar DeRozan is traveling to meet with the Kings in Sacramento this weekend,” Charania tweeted. “The Kings are in serious pursuit of the six-time All-Star, who has begun one-on-one conversations with various team personnel.”</p><p>The Bulls are <a href="https://x.com/TheSteinLine/status/1809605035300376598" rel="noopener">interested in signing and trading</a> the six-time All-Star, but only if they can include a third team to take on salary, via NBA insider Marc Stein.</p><p>“Sacramento continues its pursuit of DeMar DeRozan via sign-and-trade and San Antonio has emerged as a potential third-team facilitator, league sources say,” tweeted Stein. “The Kings have chased DeRozan this week and Chicago is willing to facilitate a sign-and-trade but insists on a third team in the deal to take in salary.”</p><p>Adding <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-proposal-lands-demar-derozan-in-bulls-sign-and-trade">DeRozan to form</a> a “Big Three” with De’Aaron Fox and Damontas Sabonis could lift the Kings into the Western Conference’s upper echelon. The Gonzaga alum led the league in boards and was sixth in assists, so he and DeRozan could do damage together with second-chance buckets.</p><p>Sacramento would most likely have to<a href="https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10127330-demar-derozan-trade-rumors-kings-pushing-to-land-bulls-star-in-possible-3-team-deal" rel="noopener"> give up a role player</a> to fit the Compton, California native under the salary cap, via Bleacher Report’s Mike Chiari.</p><p>“Assuming DeRozan gets something close to the $27.3 million average annual salary he made during his last contract, the Kings would likely have to part with at least one of Harrison Barnes or Kevin Huerter in a sign-and-trade since they will make $18 million and $16.8 million, respectively, next season,” Chiari wrote.</p><p>While parting with valuable depth is never preferable, the Kings have to take a big swing in the trade market to contend with the West’s top squads. With so many big names gone in the free agency pool, the 27-year-old sharpshooter is perhaps the best potentially available player on either the trade market or in free agency.</p><p>The Jazz are in a rebuild, adding several young players to their roster again as Markkanen continues to age into his prime years. To make sure he isn’t lost to another team for nothing next summer, Utah will either have to extend Markkanen’s contract, which expires after this season, or trade him. Given his immense value (he’s making just over $18 million next season) and age, the latter option appears to make more sense, especially with so many suitors lining up.</p><p>According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Sacramento Kings have “substantial” offers for Markkanen. The Jazz know this as well, which is why they are hesitant to trade Markkanen, even amid a rebuild that still appears to be in its infancy.”</p><h2><b>Lauri Markkanen receiving massive trade interest</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Lauri-Markkanen-dunks-the-ball.jpg"><figcaption>© Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>After years of being merely a solid player, Markkanen has become a bona fide star in his two seasons with the Jazz, averaging 24.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game while shooting 49.0 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from deep. As a top option, he drew way more fouls and scored more efficiently than ever before, posting true shooting percentages above 63 percent for the first time in his career.</p><p>The Jazz may be approaching decision time with Markkanen soon, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they have to trade him. They can keep him around as a top option in case a star player elsewhere asks out and Utah can trade for him. It would also be nice to support the rookies and second-year players with a floor spacer who can carry the workload on offense. However, if another team goes over the top with a trade offer, it may be best to just add more assets for a rebuild that is still barely getting off the ground.</p><p>Markkanen would be a massive coup for the Warriors, who just lost Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks and have struggled for years to put a reliable second option behind Stephen Curry. Golden State has some interesting young players to dangle in Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moodey and Brandin Podziemski, though Kuminga might not be on the table. Trying to offload Andrew Wiggins in a trade could also be an option.</p><p>The Spurs aren’t super eager to put a great team around Victor Wembanyama just yet — they may want to stay in the lottery one more time for the chance to land another great prospect like Cooper Flagg. But once San Antonio is ready to start winning again, the front office has picks and young players to offer in exchange for the Jazz star.</p><p>The Kings adding Markkanen alongside De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis would give them <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-timberwolves-kings-emerge-as-potential-lauri-markkanen-suitors">another incredible shooter</a> to utilize in their powerful offense. If they’re somehow able to keep Keegan Murray, it would give them a great core four to build around. Harrison Barnes and Kevin Huerter have been dangled in trades for a while and could be options here, in addition to draft capital.</p><p>Markkanen is far from the only solid player available for trade. The Brooklyn Nets are likely to trade their own sharpshooter, Cam Johnson, plus 3-and-D wing Dorian Finney-Smith as they begin rebuilding. The Washington Wizards could look to dangle Kyle Kuzma, Jordan Poole and Corey Kispert. The Chicago Bulls haven’t had much luck finding a suitor for Zach LaVine, but he has a star pedigree that could make him an intriguing buy-low option.</p><p>The Jazz don’t exactly need any more additional draft picks, even if it’s always beneficial to add as many as possible. They have all of their own picks going forward plus extra unprotected first-rounders and swap rights from the Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves. LeBron James, the biggest free agent left on the board entering Wednesday morning, finally signed his much-awaited new <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-lebron-james-104-million-contract-free-agency">contract with the Los Angeles Lakers</a>, further taking away from what has become an increasingly depleted free-agent class. But one name still stands tall among the rest, with there being plenty of uncertainty regarding which team DeMar DeRozan will be playing for come next season.</p><p>DeRozan, whose time with the Chicago Bulls is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-josh-giddey-trade-final-straw-demar-derozan-bulls-future">done and dusted</a>, is yet to find a new home; coming off a season in which he averaged 24-4-5, DeRozan definitely deserves a contract worth around the $25-$30 million mark per year. However, with the 34-year old guard looking to join a contending team, his options dwindled quickly. But in the eleventh hour, there could be a suitor who swoops in for him out of left field in the Sacramento Kings.</p><p>The Kings, per Marc Spears of ESPN via K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, have reportedly emerged as a <a href="https://x.com/KCJHoop/status/1808480210926321833" rel="noopener">“dark horse”</a> candidate to sign DeMar DeRozan in free agency.</p><p>“(The Kings) are a dark horse to get (DeMar) DeRozan … The Kings will be back in the postseason next year, they got a move coming soon,” Spears said as he speculated on which team would make a move next on the ESPN’s NBA Today show.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">The Hall of Famer <a href="https://twitter.com/MarcJSpears?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@MarcJSpears</a> was 1st to report Bulls link to DeRozan in 2021. They are currently above the salary cap as presently constructed, which means that DeRozan will either have to sign for the non-taxpayer mid-level exception (which he reportedly has no intention of doing) or the Bulls will have to facilitate a sign-and-trade.</p><h2><b>Building a potential Kings sign-and-trade offer for DeMar DeRozan</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Kevin-Huerter-1.jpg"></figure><p>The Kings have sort of hit a snag in their roster-building process as they have failed to make the acquisitions to help keep in step with the other strong teams in the Western Conference. Adding DeMar DeRozan could give them some additional scoring punch as well as crunch-time production, and it’s not like the Bulls should get much of anything in a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-what-does-lebron-james-104-million-max-contract-mean-offseason">sign-and-trade</a>.</p><p>As for salary-matching purposes, the Kings should not find it too difficult to send out a player towards the Bulls. They could either build an offer around Harrison Barnes or Kevin Huerter while adding some draft capital; the only question now is, which player do the Kings prefer to give up in a trade?</p><p>Barnes may be one of the most uninspiring players in the association, as he doesn’t do anything on the court at a particularly elite level. His scoring numbers went down last season after signing a new deal with the Kings, and at 32 years of age, Barnes should be in physical decline, which means that his production is unlikely to get any better.</p><p>However, Barnes has the prototypical size for a combo forward that teams with contending aspirations need. At 6’8, he can hang with bigger wings as well as quicker ballhandlers on the perimeter. They may have added Jalen McDaniels to get some additional wing depth, but Barnes is far and away the better player than McDaniels.</p><p>Thus, even with Barnes’ production not exactly matching his cost, it may be wiser for the Kings to dangle Kevin Huerter instead. While losing Huerter’s gravity on the perimeter as well as his underrated playmaking will hurt, bringing DeMar DeRozan in would mean that Huerter won’t have as much playing time anyway, what with him being a nominal shooting guard.</p><p>Huerter and, perhaps, a heavily protected first-round pick should get a trade done on the Kings’ end.</p><h2>Assessing DeRozan’s fit alongside Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Malik-Monk-DeAaron-Fox-Domantas-Sabonis-and-Keegan-Murray-observe-the-action.jpg"></figure><p>DeMar DeRozan has always been a tricky player to fit alongside other stars due to his ball-dominant nature as well as his below-average three-point shooting. A team has to be tailor-made to his strengths for them to succeed.</p><p>But De’Aaron Fox has become a much-better three-point shooter, and Domantas Sabonis’ ability to get the ball to where it needs to be as the lead conductor of the Kings’ motion-based offense should make life that much easier for DeRozan than it was for him on the Bulls.</p><p>DeRozan also gives the Kings a pop of secondary playmaking that they don’t exactly have on the roster. Adding the 34-year old will come at a cost, but that cost shouldn’t be too prohibitive in terms of risk to reward ratio.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

With the Jazz unable to acquire pieces that will help them make the jump to playoff contention in the Western Conference, everyone’s attention has now <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-lauri-markkanen-trade-buzz-grows-with-warriors-spurs-links">turned to Lauri Markkanen</a>, who doesn’t appear to be long for Salt Lake City.</p><p>Markkanen, being one of the best pure three-level scorers in the game as well as a hand-and-glove fit on most contending outfits, is sure to draw a ton of interest on the trade market. While he is in the final year of his contract, he’ll only be making around $18 million — making a deal that much more palatable for teams with contending aspirations. And on cue, the likes of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings are <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/nba-free-agency-2024-the-market-impact-of-klay-thompsons-move-to-dallas-211356528.html" rel="noopener">among the teams</a> vying for Markkanen’s services, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.</p><p>In addition to the Timberwolves and Kings, the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs have also reportedly thrown their hat into the Lauri Markkanen trade ring. But the question is, will the Jazz finally budge?</p><p>At present, the Jazz don’t have that foundational star yet that will lead them back to greatness. Markkanen profiles as a high-level second option on a winning team due to his shortcomings on the playmaking side of the ball. With the Finnisher being <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nba/player/_/id/23602/lauri-markkanen" rel="noopener">due for a huge contract</a> extension, will the Jazz decide to cash in on him as a trade asset to further stockpile on some draft capital? Or will he be a part of the next great Jazz team? But one must recall that Markkanen donned a Timberwolves cap on draft night back in 2017, with Minnesota trading away that selection, along with a few other goodies that included Zach LaVine, in exchange for Jimmy Butler.</p><p>It is certainly interesting to see the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/3-timberwolves-trade-targets-in-2024-nba-offseason">Timberwolves pop up</a> as a potential Markkanen suitor, especially given the financial constraints imposed upon them by the second luxury tax apron. The huge contracts of Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards, and Jaden McDaniels have already kicked in, while Rudy Gobert will be due for a huge extension soon.</p><p>Trading for Lauri Markkanen would also mean that the Timberwolves will be giving up one of their core players, and that simply may not be in the cards for a team that’s looking to run it back following an impressive run to the Western Conference Finals.</p><p>As enticing as the prospect of adding a player of Markkanen’s offensive skill and size, further adding to the Timberwolves’ arsenal of talented tall players, a trade with the Jazz simply may not be doable. There could be a workable trade centered around Naz Reid, but Reid is a fan favorite, and it’s not quite clear just how appealing the prospect of trading Reid away is for the Timberwolves brass.</p><h2>Will the Kings shoot for the stars in the form of a trade with the Jazz?</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Malik-Monk-DeAaron-Fox-Domantas-Sabonis-and-Keegan-Murray-observe-the-action.jpg"></figure><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/3-early-kings-trade-targets-2024-nba-offseason">Kings are facing the reality</a> of how difficult it is to build a sustainable contending team year-in, year-out in the NBA. Following an inspired 2022-23 season, the Kings missed the playoffs in 2024. But can Sacramento get it together and up their contending prowess with the addition of Lauri Markkanen?</p><p>The team certainly has the salary to pull off a trade with the Jazz; they should have all of their first-round picks except for next year (due to the Kevin Huerter trade), and they have a blue-chip youngster in Keegan Murray who could be a worthwhile centerpiece of a Markkanen blockbuster trade.</p><p>Lauri Markkanen would represent a huge scoring upgrade on the wing and someone who could flourish in an off-ball role alongside Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox in the Kings’ motion-based, handoff-driven offense. Markkanen has the size to punish mismatches as well, giving the Kings another scorer to run their offense around.</p><p>Murray, for as good of a 23-year old sniper as he is, hasn’t shown as much offensive versatility as Markkanen has. Markkanen is only four years older than Murray as well, so it’s not like the Kings are going to empty the farm for an aging player. This could be a worthwhile trade to pursue for a Kings team that’s looking to return to the top of the Pacific Division.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

That will have to be via a trade, as LaVine is still under contract for at least the next two seasons, with a player option worth $48.96 million for the 2026-27 campaign.</p><p>At this point, it’s no longer a secret that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-bulls-cant-even-give-away-zach-lavine-trade">Bulls want to trade</a> LaVine. It’s just a matter of finding a partner that will satisfy their demand in exchange for the two-time NBA All-Star shooting guard.</p><h2><b>Are the Warriors still interested in Zach LaVine?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Zach-LaVine-walking-off-court.jpg"><figcaption>Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>The Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings are two teams that were recently mentioned by Bulls insider KC Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago that are still <a href="https://x.com/NBCSBulls/status/1807889445259014412" rel="noopener">entertaining thoughts of trading</a> for Zach LaVine. The Warriors have just lost Klay Thompson via a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavericks-news-dallas-klay-thompson-contract-free-agency">three-team trade</a> with the Dallas Mavericks that also involved the Charlotte Hornets, so LaVine could be a guy the Dubs pursue as a replacement for what they have lost on the perimeter with Thompson’s departure.</p><p>“I’ve been led to believe that there are two teams that are still at least having conversations with glimmer of hope, however you want to phrase it. I don’t want to be aggregated poorly. I’m just, I’m grasping for the best way to phrase it myself. What I will say is I’ve written the Kings and Warriors and I think those two teams, you know, the Warriors obviously are going through significant changes with Klay Thompson’s likely imminent departure or I guess definite imminent departure since he’s told the Warriors he’s not coming back. And obviously Chris Paul was waived, said Johnson during an appearance on Bulls Talk Podcast.</p><p>However, it is also known that the Warriors have rejected a Bulls trade offer that features LaVine just before Golden State decided to waive Chris Paul and let go of Thompson. Perhaps, the Warriors are still not completely closing the door on LaVine, but it gets harder to imagine that such a trade would happen now that Golden State has lost Paul, who could have been a bargaining chip for the Dubs.</p><h2><b>The Kings still keeping an eye on LaVine?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Zach-Lavine-1.jpg"><figcaption>Daniel Dunn-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>The Kings, on the other hand, have also been busy this offseason. They can still make a huge splash by trading for a player like LaVine, with Johnson floating the names up of Harrison Barnes and Kevin Huerter as a possible package Sacramento could offer the Bulls. For what it’s worth, the Kings tried to acquire Zach LaVine back in 2018 when they put an $80 million offer on the table only for the Bulls to match it.</p><p>“And then the Kings just always seem to pop up in conversation. And I know when Malik Monk signed there, it looked like there wasn’t a landing spot for Zach there, but Harrison Barnes-Kevin Huerter package seems like it’s available for a lot of different scenarios. Brandon Ingram would be another one.”</p><p>It just seems that LaVine isn’t an appealing name at the moment for teams out there and the Bulls don’t have much of a leverage. One team that has already done just that this offseason is the New Orleans Pelicans, who on Friday <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hawks-news-atlanta-trades-dejounte-murray-pelicans">traded for Atlanta Hawks guard</a> Dejounte Murray. However, just because the Pels have made one big move already, it doesn’t mean that they’re done dealing just yet. Only instead of trading for a former NBA All-Star, they could be sending one out the door.</p><p>“With trade chatter surrounding George settling down after he opted out of his contract, as well as Dejounte Murray being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday, Brandon Ingram now becomes the focal point of discussions,” <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sources-warriors-failed-paul-george-pursuit-nba-free-agency">writes ClutchPoints NBA insider</a> Brett Siegel. “Ingram is entering the final year of his contract and has been made available for trade. At 26 years old, there is still a lot to like about Ingram’s game and ability to be a primary scoring option. However, very few teams have shown legitimate interest at this time in the Pelicans forward.”</p><p>There are a number of reasons why teams aren’t lining up to inquire with the Pelicans about the availability of Brandon Ingram. Over the last three seasons, Ingram has missed 82 games, and given the continued growth of younger wings Trey Murphy III and Herb Jones, in addition to the Pels’ commitment to run more of the offense through Zion Williamson, BI has become expendable to a certain extent.</p><p>So that raises the question, who will be the team that ends up prying Ingram away from New Orleans? The Jazz have been in the mix for a variety of potentially available pseudo-stars, and Ingram fits the bill. Additionally, the 76ers have deemed Brandon Ingram their <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-brandon-ingram-is-76ers-plan-b-if-paul-george-pursuit-fails">“plan B”</a> if their pursuit of Paul George falls short. But according to Brett Siegel, two other teams are considered dark-horse contenders to get in the mix for Ingram as well.</p><p>“The Jazz will likely internally discuss the possibility of pursuing Ingram this offseason, as will the 76ers if they are unable to land George. Two teams viewed as possible dark-horse destinations for Ingram are the Sacramento Kings and Toronto Raptors, sources said.”</p><p>Though Ingram’s trade value is something of a mystery at this point in time, from a salary standpoint, a potential deal with both the Kings and Raptors is actually pretty straight-forward. The contracts of Kevin Huerter and Harrison Barnes would be enough for Sacramento to get a deal done for Ingram, and the same could be said of Bruce Brown and Kelly Olynyk in Toronto.</p><p>But is there one more mystery team who could get in the mix for Brandon Ingram? Wiggins’ fit within the Warriors finely tuned offensive system was questioned, but just two years later, Golden State won their fourth NBA Title in the Stephen Curry/Steve Kerr era.</p><p>The Warriors were initially thought to be in the mix for Paul George, but those rumors have fizzled out. Golden State <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-warriors-open-klay-thompson-trade-help-get-him-to-new-team">will likely be losing Klay Thompson</a> this summer, and that leaves an opening for a player like Brandon Ingram to be able to step in to. Sacramento might be interested in a deal with the Washington Wizards for Kyle Kuzma.</p><p>Washington has plenty of options on the table right now with multiple first-round picks. They may make some big moves as the franchise is in the middle of a rebuild. With that said, rumors are the Kings are <a href="https://x.com/TheSteinLine/status/1806103297226617093" rel="noopener">potentially looking to make</a> a move for Kyle Kuzma, according to NBA Insider Marc Stein.</p><p>“The Wizards are exploring every pathway to try to stockpile assets and, with three turns already in the first round at Nos. 2, 14, and 26, there is rising curiosity about their plans for Kyle Kuzma. Sacramento (No. 13) is known to be interested in the versatile Kuzma once again.”</p><p>It’s not entirely clear what the Kings might be willing to give up in a deal. However, having the No. 13 pick overall could be enticing enough to the Wizards. However, Kuzma is a consistent forward in the league and Washington could receive multiple offers during the first round of the NBA Draft.</p><p>More rumors regarding <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-kings-fell-short-alex-caruso-trade-bulls">the Kings should continue</a> swirling as the organization aims to build a playoff-caliber team once again. But should Kyle Kuzma be considered as one of those key additions?</p><p>In short, the answer is a resounding yes. Kuzma proved to be one of, if not, the best player for the Wizards last season. He finished the season averaging 22.2 points (career-high), 6.6 rebounds (career-high), and 4.2 assists per game. Those are numbers the Kings would love to have alongside De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.</p><p>Kuzma would fit right in at either small forward or power forward for Sacramento. A large part of Sacramento’s success is Sixth Man of the Year candidate Malik Monk, whom the team resigned in free agency. Monk’s return impacts the Kings’ trade interest in Chicago Bulls guard Zach Lavine in an intriguing way.</p><p>The Kings signed Malik Monk to a four-year, $78 million deal. As a result, many rival executives believe Sacramento’s interest with the Bulls for Zach Lavine <a href="https://hoopshype.com/lists/aggregate-2024-nba-mock-draft-paul-george-tyrese-maxey-free-agency-zach-lavine-trade-talks/" rel="noopener">could be dwindlin</a>g, per Hoops Hype. This development leaves room for the Kings to focus their efforts on improving through the draft.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-kings-exploring-no-13-pick-trade">Sacramento possesses the 13th</a> overall pick, and it is believed they will target a small forward after retaining Monk. Ron Holland and Matas Buzelis are two names that could be good targets for the Kings. Alternatively, Sacramento could bolster their depth with players like Ja’Kobe Walter, Devin Carter, and Johnny Furphy.</p><p>Regardless of what happens, Sacramento wants to regain success reminiscent of their 2022-23 season. That year, the Kings earned the third seed in the Western Conference playoff picture. They faced the Golden State Warriors in the first round but lost in seven games.</p><p>Sacramento faced the Warriors again in the 2024 Play-In and got their revenge. However, they lost to the New Orleans Pelicans in their playoff spot-determining matchup, ending their postseason run early. The Kings did not have the services of Malik Monk at the time due to injury, but once he returns healthy he will make a large impact.</p><h2><b>Malik Monk is exactly who the Kings needed back</b></h2><p>As entertaining as it would be to see Zach Lavine leave the Bulls and wear a Kings jersey, it might be best if Sacramento cools their pursuit. Malik Monk’s scoring ability and continuity with the team should help the team get back to the level they were at before their 2024 postseason exit.</p><p>Through 72 games, Monk averaged 15.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and shot 35.0% on three-pointers during the 2023-24 season. Yet, his offensive ability is not the only thing he provides to the team. Head coach Mike Brown noted the positive impact <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-news-mike-brown-drops-malik-monk-charismatic-truth-bomb-amid-6moy-bid">Monk’s personality has</a> on the team in mid-April.</p><p>“Malik is one of the most charismatic guys I’ve been around. It’s infectious, you know? I mean, really great, great human being. You know, his charisma makes you want to be around him,” Brown said.</p><p>Unfortunately, Monk could not finish the regular season due to a sprained right MCL. Yet, that has not stopped him from giving energy to the team. Brown noted Monk as a vocal leader who is a supportive presence.</p><p>“And so with his charisma and how vocal he is, you want that presence around as much as possible. And you know, to his credit he’s been there. He comes to our film sessions, comes to our practices. They already took the first major step by locking up Malik Monk to a new contract. But Sacramento also made significant<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5587438/2024/06/24/sacramento-kings-nba-draft-free-agency-zach-edey-kyle-kuzma-zach-lavine/" rel="noopener"> inroads on a deal</a> with the Chicago Bulls for Alex Caruso before Chicago ended up shipping him to Oklahoma City, per Anthony Slater and Sam Amick of The Athletic:</p><p>“The Kings already tried to use it for a significant roster upgrade. They were close to a trade for defensive ace Alex Caruso last week, according to league sources, offering the No. 13 pick to Chicago as the key chip. The Bulls, to the surprise of many within the league, instead opted to send Caruso to Oklahoma City for Josh Giddey.”</p><p>The Kings, who are looking to add veteran help to their core of De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, Keegan Murray, and Monk, would have benefitted from adding a player like Caruso to the mix. Caruso is one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA and also shoots the 3-pointer at a 40 percent clip.</p><p>The Kings have been close on deals to improve their roster recently, but ultimately have come up empty-handed again. Caruso is just the latest example. Sacramento was close to a Pascal Siakam deal at the past trade deadline, but they ultimately lost out to the Indiana Pacers when Indiana paired the two-time All-Star with former King Tyrese Haliburton to make an Eastern Conference Finals run.</p><p>There were strong signs at the time Siakam would not re-sign with Sacramento if he had come. But that’s the type of swing that the Kings must make if they want to reach the upper echelon of the Western Conference.</p><h2><b>Bulls trade Alex Caruso to Thunder instead of Kings</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Caruso-and-Giddey.jpg"><figcaption>© Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>The Bulls last week traded two-time All-Defensive guard <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-news-bulls-thunder-alex-caruso-josh-giddey-trade">Caruso to the Thunder</a> in exchange for Josh Giddey.</p><p>Giddey, who has always been recognized for his playmaking abilities as a longer, taller guard, now joins a Bulls team that desperately needs another ball handler next to Coby White. Chicago has long looked to replace Lonzo Ball as he deals with career-threatening knee injuries, and now they have done so with their acquisition of Giddey.</p><p>The Thunder earned the top spot in the Western Conference during the regular season with an impressive 57-25 record. Led by MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City has gone from being one of the youngest teams in the league to one of the favorites to win the NBA Finals.</p><p>After reaching the Western Conference Semifinals, GM Sam Presti decided to bring in Caruso, who adds championship experience and a strong defensive presence on the perimeter. Now the Thunder roll out a perimeter defense that includes Caruso, SGA, and Lu Dort.</p><p>Caruso was a highly coveted player around the NBA. With the Bulls still in the hunt for the playoffs, the front office made the decision to turn down offers involving first-round draft picks in order to keep the defensive star.</p><p>A few months later, Chicago has now moved on from Caruso for a 21-year-old playmaker who can bring the ball up the floor and still has room for immediate growth.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

They stood pat last offseason but cannot afford to make the same mistake again. This offseason has to be a busy one for them, starting with the 2024 NBA Draft.</p><p>With the 13th overall pick in the draft, the Kings have a lot of different ways to upgrade. They have done a nice job adding young talent around De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis with Keegan Murray, Keon Ellis and Colby Jones, so <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/story/_/page/NBADraft24-40343667/2024-nba-mock-draft-all-58-picks-trade-talks-heat-30-teams" rel="noopener">standing pat and making their pick</a> could pay off. That seems to be the way the cookie is crumbling for them, according to Jeremy Woo of ESPN, but they aren’t ruling out trades.</p><p>Woo writes the following: “Sacramento has explored trade options with this pick, but there will be a range of quality players on the board if the Kings stand pat — they might be content to simply see who falls to No. 13.”</p><p>The Kings trading their pick for a more surefire contributor is sensible, especially if they can land someone who <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-kings-trade-calls-bulls-zach-lavine-alex-caruso">can be a major upgrade</a> on either side of the ball. The contract of Harrison Barnes ($18 million salary for next season) and/or Trey Lyles ($8 million) can facilitate a trade using the 13th pick as the asset to acquire a better player. They also have the 45th overall pick to include. But they could also add a good player on a cheap deal, which can go a long way toward building the rest of their team.</p><h2><b>Kings pondering options with No. 13 pick in 2024 NBA Draft</b></h2><p>The Kings have most of their core players locked up on contracts for the next few seasons but could lose a valuable contributor, sixth man Malik Monk, to free agency. They should obviously look to re-sign him but the market for his services could be too rich for their tastes. It should be something they try to do regardless of what they do with their pick.</p><p>If the Kings want to find a prospect to plug into Monk’s role as a sparkplug scorer off the bench, they could look at Ja’Kobe Walter, Jared McCain or Bub Carrington. All three of them have their own tendencies, strengths and weaknesses but each of them has the potential to be a legitimate scoring threat at the next level.</p><p>The Kings could also opt to add another wing and consider a well-rounded, versatile player like Tristan da Silva, a top-notch shooter at the four spot like Tyler Smith, a potential 3-and-D wing like Tidjane Salaun or a superb athlete/defender in Ron Holland. That’s who ESPN has Sacramento taking in its mock draft and it would be a spectacular pick if the G League Ignite product falls that far.</p><p>Sacramento may have fallen out of the playoff picture in large part because of injuries but the Western Conference is indeed becoming more competitive. Even if the older teams like the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers truly begin to fade, other teams are on the rise with young talent. Three of the teams who didn’t even make the play-in last season were Victor Wembanyama’s San Antonio Spurs, a good Memphis Grizzlies team decimated with injuries and the Houston Rockets, who boast young talent and the third overall pick. So, all they could do was re-tool and get ready to make a run this season. After all, they already made the leap into postseason contention. But, each and every part of their squad crumbled, leading to an early exit. This had fans wondering after their loss to the New Orleans Pelicans if they’ve seen the last of Mike Brown as a head coach.</p><h2><b>Mike Brown’s lack of NBA Playoffs success</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Sacramento-Kings-head-coach-Mike-Brown-gives-direction.jpg"><figcaption>© Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Player development does not seem to be the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-news-sacramento-the-betting-favorite-to-sign-jonas-valanciunas-in-free-agency">issue for Mike Brown’s Kings.</a> They have gotten the best out of guys like De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk. The rapid rise of Davion Mitchell and Keegan Murray also allowed this squad to have better success en route to the NBA Playoffs. Heck, they even made it so that Domantas Sabonis became an All-NBA third-team player. So, that’s clearly not the issue.</p><p>Apparently, Kings ownership is concerned about winning where it matters most. Their faithful have been starved of a deep NBA Playoffs run for the longest time. The last era where they were successful was when Mike Bibby and Chris Webber were still at the center of attention. So, what type of change is expected? It looks like they could be demanding more out of Mike Brown, or else he could be<a href="https://kings-beat.beehiiv.com/p/mike-brown-coaching-salaries-avoiding-basketball-hell-20" rel="noopener"> getting sacked</a>, via James Ham.</p><p>“The failure to repeat the success of the previous year hasn’t sat well with ownership, according to sources. This shouldn’t be a complicated matter, but like everything else in Sacramento, it is,” the insider declared.</p><p>The eagerness of the Kings’ organization is very palpable. Brown is slated to make somewhere between $10 million to $12 million in his next contract. Will they give him the contract he wants?</p><h2><b>Mike Brown’s time with the Kings</b></h2><p>Prior to Brown’s arrival, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-knicks-tom-thibodeau-kings-mike-brown-get-8-figure-contract-extension-updates">Kings have not seen</a> the NBA Playoffs for 16 years. He made it work with guys like Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox as his primary guys. With Malik Monk and Keegan Murray often giving the team a much-needed boost on offense too, there were a lot of hopes for this squad. Recent coaches like Luke Walton and Dave Joerger could not even get 40 wins off of one season. Brown, on the other hand, has led the Kings to two stints with more than 45 wins.</p><p>A big reason for their drop off in the standings and eventually their early NBA Playoffs exit was their drop in pace. The Kings ran and gunned for every possession that they were executing, much like this year’s Indiana Pacers. Unfortunately, teams caught on, and their halfcourt sets were not quite as dynamic in keeping the offense alive.</p><p>Another key issue in the Kings system was their defensive schemes. They allowed 114.8 points per game which netted them 115.2 defensive rating. Those numbers were good for only 14th in the league. Drop-offs are going to happen whenever the same squad runs it back with a similar system. With De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis as his two best players, Brown was able to create the foundation of a new culture in Sacramento, one that would finally put an end to their losing ways. The Kings finished the 2022-23 season with a 48-34 record, resulting in a playoff appearance and Brown being named the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-news-mike-brown-wins-coach-of-the-year-award-after-snapping-16-year-playoff-drought">NBA Coach of the Year</a>.</p><p>One year later, the Kings finished with a 46-36 record, resulting in them having to fight for their lives in the Western Conference Play-In Tournament. After <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-total-domination-sends-warriors-to-offseason-facing-serious-questions">defeating the Golden State Warriors</a> in a very meaningful 9-seed vs. 10-seed game, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-most-to-blame-in-shock-play-in-loss-to-zion-williamson-less-pelicans">Kings fell short</a> of making the playoffs, losing 105-98 to the Zion Williamson-less New Orleans Pelicans. Over the last two seasons, Brown has coached the Kings to a 94-70 record, establishing themselves as a true threat in the West. However, time is not a given in the NBA, especially regarding head coaches.</p><p>Originally, Brown signed a four-year contract in 2022 that contained a <a href="https://theathletic.com/5434131/2024/04/22/sacramento-kings-mike-brown-future/" rel="noopener">mutual option</a> between him and the team for the 2025-26 season, according to The Athletic. As a result, next season is the final year in which his contract with Sacramento is guaranteed. Brown, who is seeking long-term stability from the organization he has helped rise from the depths of the Western Conference, has a lot of uncertainties surrounding his future with the Kings.</p><p>Their win over the Warriors was meaningful in more ways than one, especially since the Kings were taken down by Golden State in the first round of the playoffs last season. Revenge in this matchup was sweet for the time being, but the Kings were unable to seize their opportunity and claim the 8-seed in the conference when they lost to the Pelicans. As a result, a “wait-and-see” approach for Brown’s future now looms large in the minds of those who make decisions for the organization, according to The Athletic.</p><p>It would be a shock to see the Kings move on from Brown just after he was awarded the 2022-23 NBA Coach of the Year. But then again, it may not be all that surprising given the nature of coaching in the league today. Job security doesn’t exist with NBA coaches. With no extension talks being held between the two sides, Brown enters the 2024-25 season not knowing if he will continue to be in Sacramento.</p><h2><b>Mike Brown’s future with Kings</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Mike-Brown-with-hands-on-head.jpg"><figcaption>Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Although they missed the playoffs, this was still a very successful season for the Kings. They won at least 45 games for the second straight season, the first time they have accomplished such a feat since the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, and Sacramento held a 15-8 record against the six-best teams in the West. The Kings have proven that they can win under Brown’s leadership, which is why there is not really much reason to think that the 2024-25 season will be his last in Sacramento.</p><p>This organization has been seeking stability for quite some time. Jumping around from head coach to head coach, the Kings have finally found a guy they not only believe in, but his players believe in as well. At this point, the Kings’ lack of postseason success is not necessarily Brown’s fault, as this problem may fall on the front office.</p><p>Outside of Sabonis, the Kings do not have much length to defend the paint. That is not Brown’s fault. On offense, the Kings struggled to find consistent production late in the year outside of Fox due to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-news-malik-monk-to-miss-play-in-game-vs-warriors-due-to-knee-injury">Malik Monk’s knee injury</a>. That is not necessarily Brown’s fault either.</p><p>The Kings will turn their attention to finding upgrades in the offseason, specifically players who can create opportunities for themselves on offense without Fox or Sabonis having to do everything. While adjustments could’ve been made last season against the Warriors and this year against the Pelicans, blaming Brown for all of this organization’s lack of postseason success would be blasphemous.</p><p>Brown has put the Kings on the path to success. The Washington Wizardsare  laboring through a horrific campaign, and teams are checking in to see if they have any interest in moving Kuzma, with the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings being two squads that are <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-mavericks-andrew-wiggins-warriors-trade-pj-washington-kyle-kuzma" rel="noopener">reportedly interested</a> in the talented forward.</p><p>It’s not hard to see why Kuzma is a desirable asset, as he’s having another strong season for the Wizards (21.9 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 4.2 APG, 45.5 FG%). And while many players would typically want to get out of Washington as soon as possible given the state of the team, it doesn’t sound like that’s the case for Kuzma, which could convince the team to <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/my-thursday-nba-trade-season-latest?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=392205&amp;post_id=141486559&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;r=39f60&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">not trade him</a> ahead of the deadline.</p><p>“If Washington holds firm on the rising indications this week that it plans to keep Kyle Kuzma beyond Thursday’s trade deadline, Kuzma’s apparent desire to stay put is believed to be one of the key factors. League sources say that Kuzma, who has attracted trade interest from teams such as Dallas and Sacramento, has not been angling for a change of scenery despite the Wizards’ 9-41 struggles. But Kuzma is also only 28 years old, so he could technically be a guy they view as a building block to lead their rebuild.</p><p>If Kuzma wants to stay in town, there’s really no reason to force a trade, even if it would be more beneficial to the team in the long run. Kuzma could be a guy who helps the younger players that will be coming to Washington over the next few years grow and develop, which would make holding onto him a shrewd move. Though he remains “at the top” of the Kings’ trade deadline wish list, Washington is “comfortable” retaining Kuzma <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sources-bulls-demar-derozan-warriors-plans-nba-trade-deadline-rumors" rel="noopener">past the trade deadline</a>, according to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel.</p><p>“There has been continued dialogue across the league suggesting that Kyle Kuzma is at the top of the Sacramento Kings target list. While they did explore the possibility of pursuing Kuzma with the Wizards in January, no real deal materialized,” Siegel reported on Tuesday. “The Kings have first-round draft picks in 2026, 2028, and 2030 that can be dealt, although they can’t trade any pick until two years after their obligation to the Atlanta Hawks is fulfilled. The Hawks own the Kings’ 2024 first-round pick with top-14 protections. Pertaining to Kuzma, the Wizards still maintain their high asking price. Washington is more than comfortable holding onto the 28-year-old past the NBA trade deadline, especially since he is a player they still envision as a focal point in their rebuild.”</p><h2><b>Should Kings pay up for Kyle Kuzma at trade deadline?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/NBA_rumors_Kings_a__fan__of_Kyle_Kuzma_ahead_of_NBA_Trade_Deadline.webp"></figure><p>Competing agendas from teams, competing front offices and player agents must be taken into account when assessing the viability of all player-movement rumors, but especially those leading up to the trade deadline. Recent intel on Kuzma suggests Washington has not only put a steep price tag on acquiring, but the team also isn’t <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-wizards-not-looking-trade-kyle-kuzma-before-deadline" rel="noopener">actively trying to move him</a> due to the mutual interest of both parties continuing their partnership past 2023-24.</p><p>“Kyle Kuzma in Washington, they are not trying to trade him, he’s happy, listen they love Kyle Kuzma,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on The Woj Podo. “He really likes that organization, signed that extension this summer. He loves being in DC, he’s not angling to get out of there.”</p><p>What benefit would Michael Winger, Will Dawkins and the Wizards’ front office glean from telegraphing otherwise? Pretty much every win-now team in basketball could use an experienced forward who theoretically doesn’t take anything off the table on either side of the ball. Kuzma would definitely be an upgrade on Harrison Barnes next to Murray on the wing, and his declining long-term contract isn’t nearly as onerous from a financial standpoint as it seems on the surface.</p><p>But giving up a pair of first-round picks for Kuzma would leave the Kings bereft of future assets moving forward, and he certainly isn’t the star who would help them level up toward top-tier contention in the Western Conference. Kuzma may not even be the impact role player in Sacramento that Washington’s asking price suggests.</p><p>He’s hitting an ugly <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/player/1628398/shots-dash?Season=2023-24" rel="noopener">33.5%</a> on catch-and-shoot triples, per NBA.com/stats, right in line with career norms that paint Kuzma as more of a streaky three-point shooter than reliable one. The 28-year-old is also ill-suited to be a good team’s best wing defender, a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-news-mike-brown-reveals-secret-to-keegan-murray-defensive-growth" rel="noopener">role in which Murray has turned heads</a> this season but remains less than ideal for both he and the Kings—especially as the sophomore’s usage projects to trend up going forward.</p><p>Adding Kuzma would make Sacramento better this season and going forward. But Mike Brown’s team sports a net rating of just +0.5, hardly indicating it’s just one solid starter at forward away from competing for a championship come June.</p><p>If a pair of first-rounders really is what it will take for them to pry Kuzma from Washington at the trade deadline, wouldn’t the Kings be better off playing out the season’s remainder, re-assessing the roster and trade market this summer and <i>then</i> make another run at Kuzma rather than pushing most of their chips in right now? Sacramento’s ownership might be too starved for playoff success to take that more patient, prudent approach into the offseason.</p><p>Keep close tabs on Kuzma’s status over the next 48 hours. There’s even a dream scenario where Sacramento could land both players.</p><p>General manager Monte McNair has reportedly been taking a look at Kuzma throughout the season <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sources-how-grizzlies-rockets-steven-adams-trade-impacts-2024-nba-trade-deadline" rel="noopener">as a potential trade target</a>, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. If a trade were to occur, the Kings would be more interested in dealing Kevin Huerter and Davion Mitchell away instead of Harrison Barnes.</p><p>“Monte McNair has once again taken a look at Kuzma, a player he has shown interest in before. Sacramento would much rather discuss trade opportunities centered around Kevin Huerter and Davion Mitchell than Harrison Barnes at this point, sources said. The Kings are said to be searching for a defensive-minded wing.”</p><p>Although neither Kyle Kuzma or Tyus Jones fit that defensive-wing mold, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-news-domantas-sabonis-obliterates-grizzlies-unreal-20-20-feat-wilt-chamberlain" rel="noopener">the Kings could</a> be in the mix of landing both players. Siegel claims Kuzma and Jones would be a great fit in Sacramento’s lineup to help De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. On top of that, the deal makes sense financially. Albeit, Sacramento would likely have to add some draft capital to make the deal go through to interest the Wizards.</p><p>“Both players would provide Sacramento with the secondary stability that they have been lacking around De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. The $37.7 million combined salaries of Barnes, Huerter, and Mitchell would almost equal the $39.5 million of Kuzma and Jones combined. The Kings would not be able to trade an outright first-round pick until 2026.”</p><p>It’ll be interesting to see if Sacramento can get a deal done. The Kings aim to make a playoff appearance in back-to-back seasons. While he may not be a great defender, Kuzma does have the ability to score the basketball consistently from all three levels and still possesses the youth and athleticism necessary to add a transition dimension to any offense that might find itself too reliant on the halfcourt game.</p><p>Meanwhile, Sacramento hasn’t gotten great production from wing players Kevin Huerter and Harrison Barnes, both of whom had great seasons in 2023-24 but have regressed significantly so far on the new campaign, which might in part explain why the ings currently find themselves in seventh place in the Western Conference and not higher.</p><p>In any case, don’t be surprised if these rumors continue to heat up as the NBA trade deadline fast approaches in February.
