However, Baltimore is ready to put the loss in the past as it takes on the Cleveland Browns at home on Sunday Heading into the weekend, the Ravens got updates on Rashod Bateman and Isaiah Likely.</p><p>Likely did not play in Baltimore’s Week 1 game, robbing Jackson of a talented tight end. His foot injury has lingered and the team is being cautious with the tight end. Bateman, however, played a small role in the Ravens’ offensive explosion against the Bills, chipping in two catches for ten yards. However, his personal issues caught the attention of Baltimore fans throughout the week.</p><p>Missing the receiver would not have affected the numbers that the Ravens ended up putting up to start the season. However, he is a key piece of Baltimore’s offense opposite receivers like Zay Flowers and DeAndre Hopkins. If he misses any length of time, the Ravens become vulnerable against an AFC North rival. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the receiver <a href="https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1966580940081131613" rel="noopener">is ready to play</a>.</p><p>“Ravens TE Isaiah Likely (foot) is officially out again Sunday vs. Cleveland. WR Rashod Bateman (personal) is good to go,” Pelissero said.</p><p>Outside of Likely’s absence, the Ravens enter Week 2 at full strength offensively. Even though the Browns are not as talented as their divisional opponents, they are still capable of playing them close. Cleveland barely lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, dropping the game in a 17-16 nail-biter. Having Bateman on the outside is a relief for Jackson and the Ravens’ other weapons.</p><p>Heading into the game, Baltimore has some extra motivation. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-news-safety-bold-claim-bringing-down-derrick-henry">Browns safety Grant Delpit took a shot at Derrick Henry</a>, saying that he was not tough to tackle. Cleveland wideout Jerry Jeudy is not worried about facing the Ravens’ secondary. However, they will still be without athletic tight end Isaiah Likely, who remains sidelined with a foot injury.</p><p>Although Likely will not play in Week 2, he is nearing his return and is close to being a full participant in practice. Likely was “in uniform” and <a href="https://x.com/jeffzrebiec/status/1966533508500726135" rel="noopener">performing individual drills</a> at Ravens practice on Friday, according to Jeff Zrebiec of ‘The Athletic.’</p><p>“TE Isaiah Likely (foot) was in uniform and was doing a workout in front of members of the athletic training and medical staffs,” Zrebiec tweeted. “Definitely upped his activity level. He won’t play Sunday, but getting closer.”</p><p>The update comes after Likely reportedly missed practice on Wednesday. Zrebiec’s report suggests that he could potentially return in Week 3. The Ravens tight end will at least need to practice in a limited fashion before getting cleared, but he is clearly on the right track.</p><p>Likely has been sidelined since suffering a broken foot in training camp. The injury set him back a few weeks, but the Ravens notably avoided placing him on injured reserve to start the season.</p><p>In his absence, Mark Andrews played 75 percent of the <a href="https://x.com/jeffzrebiec/status/1965012298847683028" rel="noopener">team’s offensive snaps</a>. However, that did not directly lead to production in the box score, as he recorded just one catch for five yards. Backup Charlie Kolar played 61 percent of the snaps, while practice squad elevation Zaire Mitchell-Padon received a 29 percent snap share.</p><h2><b>Ravens’ Week 2 injury report</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/full_90c26c.jpg"><figcaption>Jerome Miron-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Isaiah Likely is the most notable inclusion on the Ravens’ Week 2 injury report, but he is far from the only name on the list. Instead, they stumbled into one of the most shocking collapses of the NFL’s opening weekend. Up by 15 points in the fourth quarter against the Buffalo Bills, John Harbaugh’s team let the game slip away in agonizing fashion. The result was a reminder that even veteran-heavy teams can falter when execution breaks down at critical moments.</p><h2><b>Recapping the Ravens’ heartbreaking loss</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Ravens-quarterback-Lamar-Jackson.jpg"><figcaption>Tina MacIntyre-Yee/Democrat and Chronicle / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Ravens were part of one of Week 1’s most thrilling games, but it ended in crushing fashion. Despite holding a two-score lead in the final period, <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/boxscore/_/gameId/401772918">they fell 41-40</a> to the Bills in a collapse that will sting for weeks. Sure, blame can be shared across the roster. However, the defense bore the brunt after allowing <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/bills-news-josh-allen-passes-thurman-thomas-record-books">Josh Allen to pick them apart</a> in the closing minutes.</p><p>Baltimore looked ready to run the Bills out of Highmark Stadium. That said, a costly fumble and defensive lapses flipped the script. Superstar RB Derrick Henry piled up nearly 200 total yards and two touchdowns. Sadly, he lost the ball late when Ed Oliver punched it free. Buffalo recovered with just minutes remaining, setting up the game-winning field goal at the buzzer. What should have been a statement victory instead turned into a heartbreaking defeat.</p><p>Here we’ll try to look at and discuss the Baltimore Ravens personnel most to blame for close Week 1 loss to Bills.</p><h2><b>Henry’s fumble overshadows otherwise dominant night</b></h2><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/ravens-news-derrick-henry-past-jim-brown-nfl-list">A vintage King Henry performance</a> should have been the story. He bulldozed Buffalo’s front seven, piling up more than 160 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. That included a long 49-yard sprint that looked like the knockout blow. For three and a half quarters, Henry reminded the league why he remains one of the NFL’s most feared runners.</p><p>That said, football is a game of moments. Unfortunately, Henry’s defining one last Sunday was a costly fumble with three minutes left. Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver got his hand in, and Buffalo recovered in prime position to mount their comeback. The turnover swung all momentum away from Baltimore. Yes, Henry’s total impact can’t be ignored. Still, his late mistake overshadowed his brilliance and proved to be the hinge point of the collapse.</p><p>Baltimore’s other backs didn’t help either. Justice Hill coughed up the ball on a bizarre 15-yard loss earlier in the game, while Rasheen Ali had just a single carry. Keaton Mitchell being inactive only underscored how thin the Ravens’ options were beyond Henry. The entire position group has to shoulder some responsibility for a loss that should have been sealed well before Buffalo got the ball back.</p><h2><b>Special teams lapses put Ravens on their heels</b></h2><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/ravens-news-derrick-henry-owns-fumble-bills-game">If Henry’s fumble was the dagger</a>, Baltimore’s special teams mistakes kept the door cracked open all night. Outside of kicker Tyler Loop, this unit was a glaring liability. Bills return man Brandon Codrington had five returns for 139 yards. Ty Johnson added another 54 yards on just two attempts.</p><p>Time and again, the Ravens’ coverage units failed to contain Buffalo’s speed and discipline. Missed tackles, poor lane assignments, and inconsistent pursuit meant Allen often started drives near midfield instead of deep in his own territory. Against an elite quarterback, those hidden yards matter. Special teams are often overlooked, but in this case, Baltimore’s sloppiness proved costly.</p><h2><b>Trenton Simpson and linebackers fail to close the game</b></h2><p>Roquan Smith delivered his usual production with 10 tackles, but even he wasn’t immune to breakdowns. His missed tackle on James Cook’s 51-yard catch-and-run epitomized Baltimore’s struggles late in the game. What was once a tightly sealed middle of the field opened up when it mattered most.</p><p>Trenton Simpson, meanwhile, had an underwhelming showing. Splitting snaps with Teddye Buchanan, Simpson recorded just a single tackle. He also lacked the sideline-to-sideline impact the Ravens desperately needed. Buchanan’s energy and tackling stood out more, even with fewer opportunities. After throwing a 29-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins, Jackson celebrated with teammates near the end zone. A fan in a red Bills jersey reached out and slapped Hopkins’ helmet before doing the same to Jackson. The quarterback responded with a two-handed shove that knocked the fan backward.</p><p>“It just happened. I got pushed, and I was like, what? I wasn’t even thinking about being out there on the field. My apologies to him,” Jackson explained.</p><p>The fan was immediately ejected from the stadium and later received an indefinite ban, according to a team official. The league has not publicly announced whether Jackson will face any discipline. The quarterback said he has not been contacted by NFL officials about possible consequences. Head coach John Harbaugh added that the matter has been handled internally and he does not expect further repercussions.</p><p>Less than 10 minutes later, running back Derrick Henry was nearly struck by a frozen water bottle after scoring a 29-yard touchdown. After the game, players across the team took the blame for the defeat as they try to recover and get ready for the Cleveland Browns in Week 2. Marlon Humphrey offered his thoughts, echoed by defensive coordinator Zach Orr.</p><p>Humphrey and Baltimore’s secondary struggled mightily in the fourth quarter against Josh Allen and Co.. The cornerback is one of the defense’s leaders alongside <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/ravens-news-baltimore-kyle-hamilton-agree-historic-contract-extension">Kyle Hamilton, who just signed a big deal to remain with the Ravens</a>. Both players stepped up and said very similar things about the game. According to Humphrey, the <a href="https://x.com/jeffzrebiec/status/1965872583255142787" rel="noopener">team’s maturity is the biggest issue</a> moving forward.</p><p>The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec spoke with Humphrey about the game, who pointed out the weakness.</p><p>“It doesn’t matter what our offense is doing. It doesn’t matter what Lamar (is doing),” Humphrey said. “We have to go out there and win the game. Right now, our maturity level is sadly, when we get in those situations, it’s just not good enough.”</p><p>ESPN’s Jamison Hensley had similar things to say about the game, including that Orr agrees with his players. According to him, a collapse like the one in Week 1 <a href="https://x.com/jamisonhensley/status/1965873938422182128" rel="noopener">will not happen again</a>.</p><p>“According to Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey, John Harbaugh said in a meeting that they’re ‘just not mature enough as a team yet.’ Per Humphrey, defensive coordinator Zach Orr ‘made it very clear we’re not going to be repeat offenders,'” Hensley said.</p><p>As a team, the Ravens showed a lot of promise. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/ravens-news-derrick-henry-owns-fumble-bills-game">Derrick Henry led Baltimore’s offense before losing a crucial fumble</a> in the fourth quarter. Now, it gets a boost with the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-quinshon-judkins-likely-to-make-debut-vs-ravens-after-nfl-meeting">debut of rookie running back Quinshon Judkins</a> in Week 2 against the Birds. This Browns vs. Ravens game could be great, as it will be another AFC North slugfest. Likewise, this Browns-Ravens Week 2 preview gives some bold predictions. These Browns-Ravens bold predictions will use reason and analysis from the opening weekend, along with past performances.</p><p>The betting odds for this game have Baltimore <a href="https://sportsbook.fanduel.com/navigation/nfl" rel="noopener">favored by 11.5 points</a>. Yet, there is a greater chance that it could also be a closer matchup than possible. It’s worth noting that the Ravens are just 2-6 against the spread in their past eight games against the Browns. That indicates that these have generally been great games. It also highlights how there have been some surprises and some great plays.</p><p>This Browns vs. Ravens game could be no different. Namely, there could be some shocks that fans don’t see coming. It could also turn out to be one of the best games of the weekend.</p><h2><b>Harold Fannin Jr. leads the Browns in targets (again) and yards</b></h2><p>Harold Fannin emerged, seemingly out of nowhere, to lead the Browns in targets (nine) in Week 1, overshadowing veteran tight end David Njoku. Fannin finished with seven receptions for 63 yards while also rushing once for three yards. Of course, Cleveland mostly threw the ball a lot because they just could not get anything going off the ground. Still, it was a sight to see, especially with Njoku getting six targets, with just three catches.</p><p>Anyone who watched Fannin play in college knows he was a stud. Significantly, he was excellent in his last rookie season for Bowling Green, catching 117 passes for 1,555 yards and 10 touchdowns. Njoku will still be an option. However, Fannin displayed something in Week 1 that illustrated the team could trust him even more going forward. Despite the presence of wide receiver Jerry Jeudy and Njoku, Fannin could be the guy again, especially if he lines up in the slot to give Joe Flacco an easy option inside.</p><p>It could also open up the offense, as it did for the Buffalo Bills in Week 1. The Ravens allowed Dalton Kinkaid to score a touchdown early in the game. Therefore, it allowed the Bills to open things up later. The Browns could apply the same strategy.</p><h2><b>Zay Flowers struggles against the Browns</b></h2><p>Zay Flowers had himself a game in Week 1, going off for seven catches on nine targets for 143 yards and a touchdown. Yet, there is always that doubt. Flowers had two games against the Browns last season. In the first game, he had seven receptions for 115 yards in a loss to the Browns. In the second, he had just one catch on two targets for 12 yards.</p><p>Flowers is one of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/3-hottest-baltimore-ravens-takes-coming-out-2025-minicamp">key players in a hot Ravens offense</a>. However, that has not stopped him from having duds. Flowers has not scored a touchdown in his career against Cleveland. Also, he has had two games where he has gone under 60 yards. For whatever reason, this Cleveland secondary has done a good job containing him half the time.</p><p>The Ravens are also a running team. They like to run with Lamar Jackson, and they like to run with Derrick Henry. Ultimately, that is not going to change anytime soon, and the team will always run the ball whenever they get a chance. It’s simply their identity. Unfortunately, it has a ripple effect on talented players like Flowers.</p><h2><b>Browns vs. Ravens is the highest-scoring game of Week 2</b></h2><p>When you look at this Browns-Ravens Week 2 preview, high scoring does not exactly come to mind, mainly because of Cleveland. Yet, it has happened before. Just two years ago, the Browns defeated the Ravens 33-31 on November 12, 2023, in a high-scoring thriller. While this team has destroyed the Browns before, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/ravens-news-john-harbaugh-addresses-baltimores-recent-history-4th-quarter-meltdowns">Ravens have also choked too many times</a> recently.</p><p>Going back to that Browns vs. Ravens game in 2023, it’s hard to forget that Baltimore had a huge lead then, too. The Ravens led 17-3 in the first quarter and 31-17 in the fourth quarter. Regardless, the Browns battled back to win the game. Joe Flacco may not be the greatest quarterback, especially at his age. Regardless, he can still chuck the ball deep and find receivers open when he needs to.</p><p>The Browns did not score many points last weekend against what was perceived as a bad Cincinnati defense. This week, they face a Baltimore defense that just blew a 40-25 fourth-quarter lead. While the Browns probably won’t be scoring many points this season, they always seem to show up against the Ravens. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/packers-news-reasons-micah-parsons-dc-ready-to-run-through-wall">Green Bay Packers looked like the Super Bowl contenders</a> everyone was hoping for in a destruction of the Detroit Lions after the Micah Parsons trade. The Bills and the Ravens played one of the best regular season games you’ll ever see on Sunday night, with Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson ascending to another planet while going blow-for-blow with each other.</p><p>On the flip side, not everyone left Sunday with a smile. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/miami-dolphins/dolphins-news-rex-ryan-no-respect-take-mike-mcdaniel">Miami Dolphins embarrassed themselves</a> in a disastrous loss to the Colts, while the Texans still couldn’t protect C.J. Stroud in a loss to the Rams. The Broncos escaped with a win over the Titans despite a poor day from Bo Nix and the offense.</p><p>Were those dreadful showings enough to make the losers list? Here is the worst of the worst from Week 1.</p><h2><b>The Ravens are the NFL’s best team… until they have to be</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Baltimore-Ravens-head-coach-John-Harbaugh.jpg"><figcaption>Mark Konezny-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>For 55 minutes on Sunday night, watching the Baltimore Ravens was football heaven. Lamar Jackson was a walking explosive play through the air while producing a scramble that somehow took him from 25 yards in the backfield to a third-and-10 conversion, all while making Chris Collinsworth mutter some inaudible noises into his headset. Derrick Henry was still very big and very fast, outrunning a helpless Bills defense that had no answers for it.</p><p>Then, with five minutes to go in the game, the Ravens remembered that they are in fact the best team in the NFL, not at football, but at losing games that make you stare at your TV for a half-hour afterwards and wonder: <i>How did they just lose that game? </i></p><p>Something out of the Ravens’ control kickstarted the collapse when Keon Coleman was right there to reel in a bizarre tipped fourth-down pass for a touchdown to cut the lead to eight. Then Baltimore fell into the same sort of implosion that has plagued it more than any other team over the last few seasons.</p><p>Derrick Henry, normally an invincible iron man, fumbled at the worst possible time to set up another Buffalo touchdown, cutting the lead to just two. Then, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/ravens-news-john-harbaugh-doubles-down-4th-down-punt-decision-bills">John Harbaugh decided to punt the ball</a> on fourth-and-3 instead of giving Jackson another crack at closing the game out.</p><p><i>They just lost the game </i>was the only thought rolling through my head the second the punter stepped on the field for Baltimore, and Josh Allen proceeded to march the Bills right into chipshot field goal range to seal the improbable victory. This loss may not matter, or it may be the reason the Ravens are back in Buffalo in January instead of in front of their home fans.</p><h2><b>Mike McDaniel’s seat is heating up</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Mike-McDaniel-on-Sept.-7-2025.jpg"><figcaption>Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The vibes were seemingly bad in Miami this offseason, as Mike McDaniel’s once-innovative offense had grown stale and Tua Tagovailoa came off yet another injury-riddled season. Could Miami recapture the explosiveness that made it must-watch TV in 2023? Would the defense hold up? Can the Dolphins protect their franchise quarterback?</p><p>On Sunday, the vibes took a nosedive to levels that haven’t been seen before in the Sunshine State. McDaniel, Tagovailoa and company were completely helpless in a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/miami-dolphins/dolphins-most-blame-embarrassing-week-1-loss-colts">33-8 rout at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts</a>, surely the most dreadful overall team performance of the weekend.</p><p>Daniel Jones made his first start as a Colt and absolutely cut up the Miami defense all day long. On the other side, Tagovailoa turned the ball over three times, took three sacks on just seven pressures, and it took less than two quarters for our first Tyreek Hill sideline crashout of the season (it won’t be the last!).</p><p>It may not be possible for a coach’s seat to be hot after just one game, but McDaniel’s chair is at least pre-heating with the Patriots on deck in Week 2.</p><h2><b>The Texans still can’t protect C.J. Stroud</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Stroud-lollygag.jpg"><figcaption>Kirby Lee-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Texans were a major disappointment on offense in Year 2 with C.J. Stroud at quarterback, and the offensive line was the root cause of all of their problems. Houston couldn’t run the ball and couldn’t give its young star quarterback any time to throw, causing him to plateau a bit after an incredible rookie season.</p><p>Houston did fire offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik at the end of the season, but they failed to upgrade the personnel up front. In fact, the Texans decided to address being a laughing stock in pass protection by… trading star left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Commanders?</p><p>On Sunday, Stroud was introduced to a very good Rams defense line, and they got after him all day long. The third-year star was pressured on 14 of his 34 drop backs according to Next Gen Stats, a pressure rate north of 40%. He took just three sacks, but the pressure was constant as Houston tried to get back in the game in the second half.</p><p>That is not tenable even for one of the best pocket managers in football in Stroud with a great receiver in Nico Collins on the outside, and it is a big reason why Houston didn’t find the end zone once in Week 1.</p><h2><b>It’s a bad time to be a CB2 in the NFL</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/full_5dbc16.jpg"><figcaption>Steven Bisig-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Passing games are seemingly better than ever in the NFL, but there are still a select group of star cornerbacks that can shut down even the game’s best wide receivers. Those players were on full display in Week 1 and made a number of great plays. Jaycee Horn came down with a one-handed interception, Sauce Gardner had a great day for the Jets, and Jalen Ramsey settled his beef with Garrett Wilson with one of the biggest hits of the weekend to seal the Steelers’ win.</p><p>However, the players opposite those top corners had a brutal weekend. Teams picked on the rotating cast of weaker starting corners relentlessly throughout Week 1, and it popped off the screen in almost every game.</p><p>It started on Thursday night, when new additions Adoree’ Jackson (who gave up a league-high 103 yards in coverage) and Kaiir Elam took turns getting brutalized through the air during Eagles-Cowboys. On Sunday morning, Aaron Rodgers put the microscope on Brandon Stephens for two of his four touchdowns in his Pittsburgh debut.</p><p>Elsewhere around the league, Tariq Woolen almost single-handedly lost a divisional game for the Seahawks by giving up two of the more inexplicable catches of the weekend, and Josh Allen created one of the craziest comebacks in NFL history by almost exclusively targeting Chidobe Awuzie and Jaire Alexander. Beware, CB2s, the quarterbacks are coming for you in 2025.</p><h2><b>The Week 1 Bengals are back</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/780746488-joe-burrow-zac-taylor.jpg"><figcaption>Jeff Lange-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>In 2024, the Bengals started their season off with the biggest surprise of Week 1, losing a sloppy game to the dreadful New England Patriots. At the time, everyone thought all would be fine in Cincinnati and that Joe Burrow and company would figure everything out.</p><p>Well, Joe Burrow did figure it out. The rest of the Bengals, however, did not, and Cincinnati missed the playoffs with the worst defense in the NFL. Surely getting off on the right foot was a top priority for the Bengals against a Cleveland Browns team that was in the news this offseason for just about everything except for being a good football team.</p><p>Well, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cincinnati-bengals/worried-about-bengals-week-1-escape-you-have-every-right-to-be">Bengals technically got in the win column</a> with a 17-16 victory, but they limped out of Cleveland arguably feeling worse about themselves than they did when they got off the bus. After playing a solid first half that included two nice touchdown drives, the Bengals finished with seven total yards in the second half. Seven!!!</p><p>The Bengals owe a lot of thanks after still coming out of Cleveland with a win. First, thanks to the Tennessee Titans and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/tennessee-titans/titans-news-brian-callahan-admits-blowing-challenge-decision-rules-mishap">Brian Callahan struggling with the rules of football</a>, seven yards wasn’t even the lowest second-half total of the week. Secondly, Cincinnati should thank the Browns for doing a lot of Browns-ing to somehow come out with a loss despite their defense dominating Burrow and company after halftime.</p><p>Cleveland missed an extra point, a short field goal and threw a pair of tipped-ball interceptions that helped the Bengals get over the top. However, Zac Taylor and his staff have plenty to fix before Week 2.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Baltimore Ravens</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Though it’s only Week 1, it’s hard to imagine a team will suffer a more heartbreaking loss during the 2025 NFL season than the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/ravens-news-baltimore-makes-unwanted-history-painful-collapse-vs-bills">Baltimore Ravens’ stunning collapse against the Buffalo Bills</a>.</p><p>After battling early in a showdown with major playoff seeding implications, John Harbaugh’s squad took a commanding lead after the half, going up 40-25 with 11:42 to play in the fourth quarter while watching their win probability grow dangerously close to 100 percent.</p><p>And yet, for one reason or another, the Ravens took their foot off the gas, and the Bills capitalized on it, scoring 16 unanswered points, including a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/ravens-news-baltimore-makes-unwanted-history-painful-collapse-vs-bills">walk-off field goal to secure the win</a>.</p><p>Asked about the Ravens’ unsettling recent trend of losing games where they had a double-digit lead, Harbaugh noted that while his team has won plenty of similar contests, he does see the issue and <a href="https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/transcripts-press-conference-9-8-25-john-harbaugh" rel="noopener">wants to work on getting it fixed</a>.</p><p>“Maybe part of it’s the fact that we’ve been ahead a lot. We’ve won a lot of games, and we’ve had a lot of two-score leads. We’ve kept a lot of those, but I think we’ve lost six of them, if I’m not mistaken. That’s too many. I don’t care how many two-score leads you have. I do believe that we need to be really thoughtful of how we decide that we’re going to approach those situations going forward. Let’s give it some thought. Let’s give some thought to our play-calling,” Harbaugh told reporters.</p><p>“Let’s give some thought to our defensive play-calling. Let’s give some thought to our mindset, like how we’re going to talk to one another. We’re two scores up. We’re trying to keep a lead against Josh Allen or any of these great quarterbacks in this league. What’s our mindset on defense? How are we going to approach this? How are we going to talk to one another on the sideline to try to find a way to get the win? It becomes kind of a situation, a game scenario, that we need to be really intentional about going forward.”</p><p>As a team with a reputation of never quite showing up on the grandest stage, the Ravens’ loss to the Bills only adds fuel to that fire. Perhaps the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/ravens-news-rex-ryan-points-ravens-mindset-hurting-lamar-jackson-big-moments">team needs to re-evaluate</a> its overall approach. But the latest choke versus the Bills shows they still can’t be taken seriously as a Super Bowl threat.</p><p>Don’t take this the wrong way. This isn’t saying the Ravens will collapse and finish the season with a losing record. Far from it. The Ravens should win 10 games on talent alone. And Lamar Jackson could lift them to as far as 13 or 14 victories.</p><p>But the team is flawed from a mental-toughness standpoint.</p><h2><b>Ravens QB Lamar Jackson can’t do it alone</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Baltimore-Ravens-head-coach-John-Harbaugh-1.jpg"><figcaption>Mark Konezny-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Look at Jackson’s numbers. He completed 14 of 19 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns. Also, he rushed six times for 70 yards with another score. While those aren’t earth-shattering numbers, he led his team to 40 points. That would have been enough points to beat the Bills — an NFL elite offense — in 13 of their 17 regular-season games in 2024, and tie them once.</p><p>But the Ravens have come up small over and over again in the postseason. In the Jackson era, the Ravens are just 3-5 with him starting in the playoffs. Of those five losses, three were one-score decisions. That includes the heartbreaking two-point loss to the Bills in the 2024 playoffs, where a dropped 2-point conversion pass in the final minutes turned out to be the difference.</p><p>The Ravens have no excuses for Sunday’s loss to the Bills. They became the first team in NFL history to <a href="https://x.com/NFLPlus/status/1964899302763102439?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1964899302763102439%7Ctwgr%5E3d3efc15d615e330c3ff0ad6692c3434de250ddd%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.newsweek.com%2Fsports%2Fnfl%2Fravens-make-unfortunate-nfl-history-week-1-loss-bills-2126151" rel="noopener">pull off these numbers</a>, according to a post on NFL+.</p><p>The @Ravens are the first team in NFL history to score 40+ points and rush for 235+ yards in a loss (teams were previously 277-0 including playoffs)</p><p>So what’s going on?</p><h2><b>It comes back to HC John Harbaugh</b></h2><p>The Ravens simply <a href="https://x.com/BenjaminSolak/status/1964896195236831672?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1964896195236831672%7Ctwgr%5E849131716b106bc0c4ac9d61ecdc63294f672a70%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sportingnews.com%2Fus%2Fnfl%2Fbaltimore-ravens%2Fnews%2Fjohn-harbaugh-stat-revealed-following-embarrassing-week-1-sunday-night-football-loss%2Fdc2b5f1f83ee2b7f9ca870e6" rel="noopener">do not know how</a> to play with a lead. Need proof? How about his post on X by Benjamin Solak.</p><p>“The Ravens have now lost 8 games since the 2021 season in which they, at one point, had a win probability of at least 90%. That’s three more than the next closest team.”</p><p>Folks, that’s coaching. That’s play-calling. It’s overconfidence, which belongs in the lap of the head coach as well. Harbaugh’s teams have blown double-digit leads in losses 17 times. Say what you want about his 172 wins and his 2012 Super Bowl title. If you’re going to hang on to those things, don’t worry about the present. Just ignore the past and ignore the current problems.</p><p>The Ravens apparently think Jackson will save the day no matter how they approach things.</p><p>For example, Derrick Henry ran roughshod over the Bills all night. But when it came time to put the game away, he shrank. Maybe he thought he had already put the game away. His fumble was inexcusable considering the magnitude of this game.</p><p>Wait, it’s only Week 1, you say? Remember, these are the two teams considered most likely to reach the Super Bowl. And only one can go. The Bills have now proven two games in a row that, when push comes to shove, Josh Allen will get it done and Jackson won’t.</p><p>Now, this isn’t a ringing endorsement of Sean McDermott. What it may is another path to the Super Bowl for the Chiefs. Andy Reid wouldn’t have trouble with either of those guys.</p><p>But for now, Harbaugh has to answer the tough questions. It’s almost laughable to hear Harbaugh’s response to the <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/john-harbaugh-we-need-to-be-thoughtful-about-protecting-big-leads" rel="noopener">blown-lead issue</a>, according to NBC Sports.</p><p>“Maybe part of it is we’ve been ahead a lot,” Harbaugh said. “We’ve had a lot of two-score leads. We’ve kept a lot of those, but I think we’ve lost six of them if I’m not mistaken. That’s too many. I don’t care how many two-score leads you have. There’s too much talent. A 10-plus-win season seems inevitable unless there are massive injury problems. And if the Ravens get into the playoffs, maybe this will be the year they find a way.</p><p>But maybe it’s better if they try to do it by coming from behind? Getting big leads hasn’t been the ticket.</p><p>When push comes to shove, the Ravens simply need to come up with more plays down the stretch. And they have to manage the clock better. Plus, they might need to adjust their aggressiveness for late-game play calling. Don’t put everything on Jackson’s shoulders.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Jackson seemed contrite about the issue, according to USA Today.</p><p>“He slapped me,” Jackson said during his postgame news conference following a stunning 41-40 defeat. “He was steadily talking. So, I forgot where I was.”</p><p>Jackson said he should have responded differently.</p><p>“You’ve got to think in those situations,” he said. “You’ve got security out there. Let security handle it. But I just let my [emotions] get the best of me. Hopefully, it’ll never happen again.”</p><p>Jackson said it won’t make him shy away from fans in the future, according to ESPN.</p><p>“I’ve never seen our fans do that,” Jackson said. “So, I’ll probably do it again when we score a touchdown. It’s not nothing against the fans. I’m just celebrating when my teammates get a touchdown.”</p><p>The Ravens will try to bounce back against division foe Cleveland this Sunday. The Ravens led this game 40-25 more than halfway through the final frame, but ended up relinquishing three straight scoring drives to league MVP Josh Allen and company to lose on a game-winning field goal.</p><p>While the Derrick Henry fumble has drawn the majority of the headlines for what led to the Ravens’ demise, another key factor was the three-and-out that Baltimore had with just under two minutes left that would have put the game on ice had they been able to get a first down.</p><p>Lamar Jackson completed a pass on third down to get the Ravens within two yards of the first down, causing some to wonder if John Harbaugh would elect to go for it. Instead, the Ravens punted, and Buffalo drove all the way down the field to win.</p><p>Now, Harbaugh<a href="https://x.com/jamisonhensley/status/1965125653654897039" rel="noopener"> is doubling down</a> on that decision to punt amid fan backlash.</p><p>“John Harbaugh said he punted on 4th-and-3 in the fourth quarter because he trusts his defense and he made the point that he’s going to trust the defense going forward,” reported Jamison Hensley of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>“I’m not shying away from putting my defense out there,” said Harbaugh, per Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. “I trust our defense and I’m going to trust our defense this year in a lot of big situations because our defense is going to be really, really good. The Ravens led this game by 15 points more than halfway through the fourth quarter but ultimately ended up relinquishing three scoring drives down the stretch en route to the loss.</p><p>Lamar Jackson had an elite game for most of the night but came up a bit small down the stretch, unable to convert a first down late in the fourth quarter that would have put the game on ice.</p><p>Recently, former NFL head coach Rex Ryan took to the ESPN airwaves to highlight <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=734&amp;v=K817YsuqOlQ&amp;feature=youtu.be" rel="noopener">what he thinks</a> is holding Jackson and the Ravens back in these big moments.</p><p>“I think the mentality of the Ravens has always been that we are a defensive football team first. The pride of that franchise is that defense, having the baddest defense on the planet…  I think right now John (Harbaugh) needs to take a hard look and I think realize you got a great football team. This is my pick to win the Super Bowl. But the mentality right now is John, the best thing you have is your offense. It’s not your defense anymore. Let your offense win games,” said Ryan.</p><p>Harbaugh came under fire during Sunday’s game for not going for it on fourth down late in the fourth quarter from just a couple of yards away and instead punting the ball, which allowed the Bills to drive down the field and win.</p><h2><b>A troubling start for the Ravens</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Baltimore-Ravens-head-coach-John-Harbaugh.jpg"><figcaption>Mark Konezny-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>As Rex Ryan mentioned, the Ravens’ calling card has historically been their defense, but that has shifted in recent years.</p><p>The Ravens’ defense got off to a putrid start to the 2024 season and that trend continued on Sunday night, with league MVP Josh Allen eviscerating the Baltimore secondary and immediately causing fans to wonder whether the Jaire Alexander acquisition may have been a huge mistake.</p><p>The good news for the Ravens is that they still have 16 more games to turn things around and shake off the big game demons.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Ravens led this game 40-25 more than halfway into the fourth quarter but ended up relinquishing three scoring drives to the Bills down the stretch of the game, accelerated by a brutal fumble from Derrick Henry, who had been having a great game up to that point.</p><p>Blowing big leagues has become a familiar theme for the Ravens in recent years, and recently, former NFL MVP Cam Newton took to ESPN’s <i>First Take </i>to <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1965069154643501370" rel="noopener">put the team on blast</a> for the choke job.</p><p>“The Ravens collapsed. There are things that cannot happen. Derrick Henry knows that that fumble cannot happen. Another thing too, where was the Ravens’ defense?… 251 passing yards in the fourth quarter alone. Josh Allen had over 400 yards of offense by himself… They did every single thing but win the football game,” said Newton.</p><h2>A brutal loss for the Ravens</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/780647231-keon-coleman-ravens-bills.jpg"><figcaption>Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>The Baltimore Ravens’ 2024-25 season ended in similarly heartbreaking fashion on the road against the Buffalo Bills, with a series of inexplicable mistakes, including most notably a brutal drop from Mark Andrews, ending their season last year during the divisional round matchup between the two teams.</p><p>For the first three quarters and into the fourth of Sunday night’s game, the Ravens looked like a team on a mission to exact revenge on their AFC foes and establish themselves as the team to beat in the NFL this year. Instead, they provided further evidence for a trend that has become increasingly difficult to deny in recent years: the Ravens are awful at closing big games.</p><p>Lamar Jackson, who was brilliant for most of the night on Sunday, was nowhere to be found when the Ravens needed him most late in the fourth quarter, and the Baltimore defense, which was supposed to be among the league’s elite units this year after the addition of Jaire Alexander, was torched by Josh Allen throughout the evening, allowing him to fully validate his 2024 MVP in the process.</p><p>It’s only Week 1, but the Ravens already have some soul searching to do.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/bills-news-fans-calling-buffalos-comeback-vs-ravens-game-of-the-year">Buffalo Bills bested the Baltimore Ravens 41-40</a> in a high-scoring affair that won’t be forgotten for a long time.</p><p>Both teams had moments of brilliance, but the Bills were able to complete an epic fourth-quarter comeback. In the process, the Bills showcased Super Bowl potential, but they were also dominated by the Ravens for much of the game, proving that Baltimore is a championship-caliber team, too.</p><p>These teams haven’t been able to get past the dynasty that is the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason, but this is the year that may finally change. A Ravens-Bills rematch very well could be on the horizon, and the AFC Championship Game would be a perfect time for it.</p><h2><b>Ravens vs. Bills was a game for the ages</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/780647242-bills-game-winning-kick.jpg"><figcaption>Tina MacIntyre-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>The Ravens scored early and often in their Week 1 matchup against the Bills. The Lamar Jackson-Derrick Henry running threat pairing looked somehow even better than it did last year. Jackson is, of course, arguably the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/greatest-rushing-quarterbacks-nfl-history-ranked">best rushing quarterback of all time</a>. Henry, meanwhile, has a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/every-2000-yard-rushing-season-in-nfl-history">2,000-yard rushing season</a> to his name, and he was just 79 yards short of hitting that mark again last year in his first season with the Ravens.</p><p>The two combined for 239 yards and three touchdowns on the ground in Week 1. Zay Flowers had a great game at receiver, too, as he caught seven passes for 143 yards and a score. Even DeAndre Hopkins had a blast to the past with what was a one-handed snag for a touchdown that will go on his career highlight tape.</p><p>Things didn’t start clicking as much until late for the Bills. They were down 40-25 with less than five minutes to go. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/bills-news-elevate-kicker-tyler-bass-injury-ravens-game">Matt Prater, who signed with the team just days before</a>, ended up kicking the game-winning field goal as time expired. The odds-defying victory resulted in Buffalo becoming the first team out of the<a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/bills-shocking-comeback-ends-this-717-game-losing-streak-by-nfl-teams-plus-16-more-wild-stats-from-week-1/" rel="noopener"> last 718 teams</a> to be down that much with that little time and still walk away victorious.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/bills-news-josh-allens-mvp-first-21-years">Reigning MVP Josh Allen</a> made an early claim for recapturing the NFL’s most prestigious individual award. He had 394 passing yards and four total touchdowns. These two teams were often predicted to win the Super Bowl coming into this year, and this game confirmed those beliefs, even for the Ravens after suffering a loss.</p><p>Baltimore was playing on Buffalo’s home field, yet they were dominant for most of the game. The Bills collected a signature win and earned some valuable late-game experience. Buffalo vs. Baltimore has all the makings of an iconic rivalry. Before this Week 1 matchup, the Bills beat the Ravens in another close battle, 27-25, in the AFC Divisional Round.</p><h2><b>Can the Ravens and/or Bills get past the Chiefs?</b></h2><p>The Chiefs have made the Super Bowl in five of the last six seasons. The lone year during that stretch in which they didn’t win the AFC Championship Game was against the Cincinnati Bengals. Both the Ravens and the Bills have been championship-caliber teams for nearly all of that stretch, but they have continuously fallen short against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.</p><p>Either team now seems poised to finally break through and beat the Chiefs. Kansas City lost in Week 1 in an underwhelming performance against the Los Angeles Chargers. Of course, the Eagles blew the Chiefs out in Super Bowl 59, too.</p><p>There has been a cost to winning, as the Chiefs’ success has led to them losing a lot of their best players. Xavier Worthy already suffered an injury, too, which won’t help the team’s case with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/chiefs-rumors-why-rashee-rice-accepted-6-game-suspension">Rashee Rice out because of a suspension</a>, either. The Chiefs’ recent loss came in rare fashion, as they almost never lose one-score games. The 27-21 defeat proved that they are human, though.</p><p>The Bills and Ravens, meanwhile, are deeper than they’ve ever been before.
