1 obvious Cincinnati Bengals trade candidate entering 2025 training camp

Enzo Flojo
The Cincinnati Bengals are not strangers to high-stakes drama on or off the field. After all, this is the team that’s tried to ride the thin line between championship contention and roster preservation. However, as training camp nears for the 2025 NFL season, the Bengals find themselves in murky waters once again. This time, it’s not just about Joe Burrow’s health or the balance between a loaded offense and an improving defense. The biggest plotline involves a rookie edge rusher who hasn’t even signed his deal. Now, while most rookies come in with fanfare and fresh energy, Cincinnati’s latest first-rounder may be headed out before he ever suits up.

1. This is true 2. The fact that this is true and the Bengals have still been able to score any points at all for the last five years should tell you how good Burrow is.

For what it's worth, the combined cap hits of Chase and Higgins this year are 17%. And that ramps up to 20% later in the deals. This is the cheapest they will ever be. For comparison, here is the highest combined cap hits of some notable other WR duos in the last 25 years. Issac Bruce and Torry Holt - 14.3% Harrison and Wayne - 16.9% (Marv Sr's last year) Fitzgerald and Boldin - 13.1% Demaryius and Sanders - 13.8% Jordy and Cobb - 14.5% Keenan and Williams - 15.9% Evans and Godwin - 14.4% Tyreek and Waddle - 11.3% The Miami duo also ramps up to 20% on paper but Tyreek is going to get cut before they even get there. Literally no team has ever built like this before. The *cheapest* this Bengals duo will ever be is higher than every other top duo in the last quarter century. Cincinnati has about a third of their cap hits tied up in three players, just on one side of the ball. There's no precedent for that.
