You can catch all of his sports-related musings on Twitter at @twcrean.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Editorials</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Seattle Seahawks are entering a new era after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/raiders-news-shocking-geno-smith-trade-seahawks">trading quarterback Geno Smith</a> and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/grading-seahawks-steelers-dk-metcalf-trade">wide receiver DK Metcalf this offseason</a>. Now, the team needs to restock on both sides of the ball to turn the page on the Pete Carroll era and go full-on Mike Macdonald. How will they do this in the 2025 NFL Draft? We asked the Pro Football Focus NFL Mock draft simulator that question, and here’s what it came up with in our Seahawks seven-round 2025 NFL mock draft, according to the <a href="https://www.pff.com/draft/nfl-mock-draft-simulator" rel="noopener">PFF simulator</a>.</p><h2><b>Round 1, Pick 18: EDGE Mykel Williams, Georgia</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Mykel-Williams.jpg"><figcaption>Jordan Prather-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>At 6-foot-5, 260 pounds, and with rare athletic traits, Georgia pass rusher Mykel Williams looks like an NFL pass rusher. The only issue is that he is still incredibly raw.</p><p>Over three seasons with the Bulldogs, he produced 14 sacks and 23 tackles for a loss, which means that 30% of his overall tackles took a ball carrier down in the backfield. Still, he never recorded more than 5.0 sacks in a single season, a number NFL teams would want to see at least doubled by a first-round pick at the next level.</p><p>The reason this makes sense for the Seahawks is that Macdonald is a defensive guru, and if anyone can take a raw player with traits and make him into a difference-maker, the Seattle headman surely thinks it’s him.</p><h2><b>Round 2, Pick 50: DL Jared Ivey, Ole Miss</b></h2><p>Jared Ivey is a 6-foot-6, 274-pound defensive lineman who probably translates best as a 4-3 defensive end in the NFL. However, if the Seahawks do take him in the second round, there is a chance that, as his size, he can be an interesting DE/OLB hybrid in the team’s 3-4 scheme.</p><p>Ultimately, though, this specific player wouldn’t make a ton of sense here, despite what the PFF NFL mock draft simulator says. The Seahawks could use depth at OLB and DE, but taking Ivey for that role with their second selection seems like a gamble when they could fill other roles.</p><p>Taking Williams first and a truer 3-4 DE later (see below) are both solid picks, but this is redundant at best and a waste at worst with DeMarcus Lawrence, Boye Mafe, and Derik Hall at OLB and Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed, and Byron Murphy II (last year’s first-rounder) at DE.</p><h2><b>Round 2, Pick 52: WR Jayden Higgins</b></h2><p>After trading away DK Metcalf, the Seahawks absolutely have to take a wide receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft. The depth chart gets pretty slim after Jaxon Smith-Njigba and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seahawks-news-agree-sign-cooper-kupp-after-rams-release">the newly signed Cooper Kupp</a>.</p><p>In Jayden Higgins, Seattle would get an excellent Metcalf replacement. He’s 6-foot-4 and 214 pounds, so his physical profile is similar to the now-former Seahawks wideout. Of course, Higgins isn’t the explosive physical anomaly that Metcalf is, but who is?</p><p>Higgins doesn’t offer the same big-play ability of Metcalf, but down-to-down, he can be a more useful WR for the team.</p><h2><b>Round 3, Pick 82: DL Elijah Roberts, SMU</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/SMU-defense-celebration.jpg"><figcaption>Jerome Miron-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While Ivey wasn’t a great pick from the PFF NFL mock draft simulator, the 6-foot-4, 285-pound Elijah Roberts in the third round makes a lot more sense.</p><p>Roberts played standup 3-4 OLB in college, so while he’s probably not athletic enough to play that position full time in the NFL, he has that ability, along with the size to slide into a 3-4 DE role.</p><p>This is the depth piece along the defensive front that would be smart for the Seahawks to grab and at pick No. 82, there is a lot less risk involved.</p><h2><b>Round 3, Pick 92: RB RJ Harvey, UCF</b></h2><p>The 2025 NFL Draft is a loaded running back class, so even with one of the better young RB trios in the league—Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet, and Kenny McIntosh— adding competition to that position makes sense, especially with Walker’s injury history.</p><p>RJ Harvey is a tough runner at 5-foot-8, 205 pounds, and while there is little flash to his game, he should be able to take some of the more grueling carries away from the Seahawks’ more skilled backs.</p><h2><b>Round 4, Pick 137: QB Dillon Gabriel, Oregon</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Dillon-Gabriel_dd79fb.jpg"><figcaption>© Troy Wayrynen-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>At some point the Seahawks must also take a young quarterback to develop, too, and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel in the mock draft pick here.</p><p>Once upon a time, Seattle drafted an older yet highly productive mid-round signal-caller with similar measurements to the 5-foot-11, 205-pound Gabriel. That ultimately brought the Seahawks a Super Bowl, and maybe Gabriel, with his unique left-handed style, can do the same down the road.</p><h2><b>Round 5, Pick 172: C Seth McLaughlin, Ohio State</b></h2><p>Seattle would surely like to address the offensive line earlier in this draft, but with the way this simulation fell and the strengths and weaknesses of the class, that just didn’t make sense.</p><p>So, in Round 5, Ohio State center Seth McLaughlin is the pick. McLaughlin is coming off an Achilles tear, so while he may be more of a third or fourth-round talent, the Seahawks could get a deal on arguably the best center of the draft late.</p><h2><b>Round 5, Pick 175: OT Logan Brown, Kansas</b></h2><p>Logan Brown only started for one season at Kansas, but at 6-goot-6, 311 pounds he has all the size and traits to be an NFL tackle. As a rookie, he will probably only be a backup swing tackle, but if he continues on his current development path, there are signs he could eventually be a starter.</p><h2><b>Round 7, Pick 223: TE CJ Dippre, Alabama</b></h2><p>CJ Dippre is a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none tight end who can do a little bit of everything but doesn’t stand out in one area. As a seventh-round pick, though, he should fit in nicely as competition for the TE2 or TE3 spot behind Noah Fant.</p><h2><b>Round 7, Pick 234: S Craig Woodson, Cal</b></h2><p>With Rayshawn Jenkins and K’Von Wallace out, the Seahawks need more depth at safety, and Craig Woodson would be a solid pick as one of the last in the 2025 NFL Draft. He’s a solid, though not spectacular, player who should be able to get on the field as a rookie in certain packages and contribute in a big way on special teams.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He recently covered the Phoenix Mercury for The Next Hoops and PHNX Sports.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NFL</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>As the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-agree-sign-cooper-kupp-after-rams-release">Seattle Seahawks signed wide receiver Cooper Kupp</a>, it brought a sigh of relief to head coach Mike Macdonald. After trying to game plan against him for years, he’s finally on the same squad as Kupp.</p><p>Even though the Seahawks made some interesting moves in the offseason, the coach is encouraged. He explained via Myles Simmons of NBC Sports <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/mike-macdonald-cooper-kupp-was-a-pain-in-the-butt-to-coach-against" rel="noopener">what the veteran receiver brings</a> to the table.</p><p>“You could have him covered on paper, but he’s still going to get open,” Macdonald said. “That’s something you have to experience in-game. So, he’s a guy that you have to account for on a lot of possession downs, high-leverage situations where we’ve got to have two guys on this guy.</p><p>“It’s a little bit different than some straight-line, vertical guys where you want more of a high-low double. You want him surrounded as much as possible. You’re allocating resources over there, it kind of shifts where those stress points are on the rest of the field.</p><p>Kupp has not played more than 12 games in a season since he put up a career season.</p><p>Not to mention, Kupp’s 2021 performance was one of the best for a receiver in NFL history. He won AP Offensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl LVI MVP. In 2024, he caught 67 passes for 710 yards with six touchdowns in 12 games for the Rams.</p><h2><b>Mike Macdonald loves Cooper Kupp on the Seahawks</b></h2><p>Although he might be towards the end of his prime, he is still an exceptional player. The only question now has been his health. Since Puka Nacua came into the mix, he and Kupp have battled between the No. 1 and No. 2 receiver.</p><p>Whether intentional or not, it seemed that Kupp’s time with the Los Angeles Rams might be over. After the franchise cut him, plenty of teams were interested in the veteran receiver.</p><p>Luckily, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seahawks-burning-questions-cooper-kupp-signing">Seahawks had him on their radar</a> from the beginning. After posting just over 700 receiving yards, that might’ve turned some teams off of Kupp.</p><p>Not for Seattle though. The newest offensive coordinator, Klint Kubiak, <a href="https://www.seahawks.com/news/seahawks-offensive-coordinator-klint-kubiak-plans-to-build-a-balanced-smart-tough-physical-offense-in-seattle#:~:text=New%20Seahawks%20offensive%20coordinator%20Klint,what%20made%20the%20job%20attractive." rel="noopener">laid out his vision</a> for the offense. It lies right in the wheelhouse of Kupp and his skill set.</p><p>At the end of the day, Macdonald’s hype might be worth it. However, it could also fall flat. After the Seahawks traded DK Metcalf away, it’s the Jaxson Smith-Ngjiba show as the young receiver.</p><p>Learning from Kupp though can be a great thing. He sees trading up as a way that both teams can fix clear problems on their respective rosters.</p><p>Barnwell pointed to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-offensive-line-promise-klint-kubiak-hire">Seattle’s huge need on the offensive line</a> as a reason they might trade up. The Seahawks already have five top-100 picks, thanks to the Geno Smith and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/grading-seahawks-steelers-dk-metcalf-trade">DK Metcalf trades</a>. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/raiders-news-las-vegas-pete-carroll-next-head-coach">Raiders replaced Pierce with legendary head coach Pete Carroll</a>, formerly of the Seahawks. They also added John Spytek as their new general manager.</p><p>The brainstrust of Carroll and Spytek did not waste much time improving the roster.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/raiders-news-shocking-geno-smith-trade-seahawks">Las Vegas traded a third-round pick to Seattle for QB Geno Smith</a> just before the start of NFL free agency. This one move was incredibly important for the Raiders. Not only did it solve their biggest need for the foreseeable future, it also frees them up to use the sixth-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft however they wish.</p><p>The Raiders also brought in several fresh faces during the first few weeks of NFL free agency. Las Vegas added a few pieces on offense, investing a two-year deal in guard Alex Cappa and a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/raiders-news-las-vegas-inks-former-dolphins-pro-bowler-one-year-deal">one-year deal for running back Raheem Mostert</a>.</p><p>They also spent significant resources adding new faces on defense. The Raiders brought in Eric Stokes, Darnay Holmes, Jeremy Chinn, Lonnie Johnson Jr., and Elandon Roberts to play roles on defense. They also retained Adam Butler and Malcolm Koonce to create some consistency as well.</p><p>Despite all of these moves, the Raiders are still lacking talent on the offensive side of the ball. However, that could quickly be rectified with one simple trade.</p><p>Below we will explore the perfect trade the Raiders need to make after 2025 NFL free agency.</p><h2><b>Pete Carroll reunites with player from Seahawks in this Raiders trade</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Kenneth-Walker-on-Nov.-24-2024.jpg"><figcaption>Joe Nicholson-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>We will start by highlighting the proposed trade terms before getting into any analysis of this potential deal.</p><p><b>Raiders receive: </b></p><ul><li>RB Kenneth Walker III</li><li>2025 fifth-round pick (175th overall) (Compensatory)</li></ul><p><b>Seahawks receive: </b></p><ul><li>TE Michael Mayer</li><li>2025 fourth-round pick (108th overall)</li></ul><p>This trade could work out well for both teams.</p><p>Kenneth Walker III would be a huge upgrade for the Raiders in their backfield. Mostert is the most talented back on the roster, followed by I suppose Sincere McCormick? That alone shows how much work Las Vegas has to do at the position.</p><p>There is growing buzz that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/raiders-news-las-vegas-urged-draft-ashton-jeanty-espn-mock-draft">Raiders could be the team to pick Ashton Jeanty</a> in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Even if the Raiders do have plans to select Jeanty in the first round, it is always smart to have a backup plan.</p><p>Walker III is a solid running back who would be a huge upgrade in Las Vegas even as a role player next to a stud like Jeanty.</p><p>If Walker III is so useful, then why would the Seahawks even consider trading him away? There are a few compelling reasons on Seattle’s side to get this deal done.</p><p>One factor could be his consistently dropping production. Walker III burst onto the scene with 228 rushes for 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns in 2022. However, all three of those statistics have dropped each season since. He finished the 2024 season with 153 carries for 573 yards and seven touchdowns.</p><p>That is still some respectable production, but Walker III clearly is not viewed as a bell cow running back anymore. It certainly does not help that he shares a backfield with Zach Charbonnet.</p><p>To make matters worse, Walker III is in the final year of his rookie contract. If the Seahawks want to recoup any value for Walker III, now is the time to do it.</p><p>The Seahawks also stand to benefit plenty from adding Michael Mayer.</p><p>AJ Barner is the only tight end who the Seahawks currently have under contract for the 2026 season. Noah Fant has been a solid player for the Seahawks, but they are well overdue for an upgrade.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Raiders are content to give Brock Bowers all of their tight end production.</p><p>Going back to Walker III, his shortcomings should not be that scary to the Raiders. Even if Walker III quickly becomes an RB2 behind Ashton Jeanty, Las Vegas should welcome having an incredible running back rotation, especially when Mostert is the best back they currently have.</p><p>The Raiders could always use a draft pick on a new starting running back, assuming they pass on Ashton Jeanty. Still, Walker III brings valuable chemistry with Geno Smith and Pete Carroll. They also <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-seattle-sam-darnold-agree-massive-100-million-contract">signed Sam Darnold to a lucrative three-year deal</a> to replace Smith. Now the Seahawks swiped up a core special teamer who could play some snaps on defense.</p><p>The Seahawks had signed former Browns safety D’Anthony Bell to a one-year deal, per Jordan Schultz. He is <a href="https://x.com/Schultz_Report/status/1903121956909482404" rel="noopener">primarily a special teams player</a> who could see an expanded role in Seattle.</p><p>Bell has played in all but one game for the Browns dating back to 2022.</p><p>Bell is a special teams ace who drew interest from multiple NFL teams. It seems he decided to head to Seattle because of the opportunity to get on the field in three-safety sets for the Seahawks.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-seattle-hire-ravens-mike-macdonald-head-coach">Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald</a> is known for his unique defensive scheme. Heavy usage of three-safety sets is one of the hallmarks of Macdonald’s defense.</p><p>The Seahawks currently have Julian Love and Coby Bryant as their starting safety duo. They parted ways with Rayshawn Jenkins earlier this offseason.</p><h2><b>Seahawks among teams named ‘sleeper’ to select QB early in 2025 NFL Draft</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Sam-Darnold-at-Pro-Bowl.jpg"><figcaption>Kirby Lee-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Seahawks are one of a few teams rumored to shock the NFL during the 2025 NFL Draft.</p><p>ESPN’s Matt Miller named a number of teams who he believes could be ‘sleepers’ to select a quarterback early in the draft. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-rumors-seahawks-saints-rams-sleeper-qb-teams-draft">Miller named the Seahawks as one of those teams</a>.</p><p>Miller presented an argument for why <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-klint-kubiak-sam-darnold-quality-sticks-out">the Sam Darnold signing</a> does not preclude Seattle from adding a quarterback this April.</p><p>“The Sam Darnold redemption story is great,” Miller wrote on Friday. “But there’s a chance he doesn’t maintain the level of success he had in 2024 now that he doesn’t have Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell calling the plays and a great receiver duo supporting him. And given the short term of his contract (three years) and large payout in Year one, the Seahawks could still look to add at the position.”</p><p>Miller also named the Rams and Saints as other teams that could be interested in a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.</p><p>The Seahawks may be the most likely of all three teams to trade up for a quarterback. If the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants pass on a quarterback at two and three respectively, things may get wild. ESPN experts Matt Miller, Jordan Reid, and Field Yates think the Rams, Saints, and Seahawks <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2025/insider/story/_/id/44293343/2025-nfl-draft-latest-buzz-rumors-news-prospects-risers-mocks-sanders-titans" rel="noopener">could surprise people</a> in rounds one or two.</p><p>“The Sam Darnold redemption story is great,” Miller wrote on the Seahawks drafting a QB. “But there’s a chance he doesn’t maintain the level of success he had in 2024 now that he doesn’t have Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell calling the plays and a great receiver duo supporting him. And given the short term of his contract (three years) and large payout in Year 1, the Seahawks could still look to add at the position.”</p><p>Miller cites the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/falcons-news-why-alanta-locked-in-michael-penix-draft-pick-despite-180-million-kirk-cousins-contract">Falcons drafting Michael Penix Jr after signing Kirk Cousins</a> as a reason the Seahawks might do this. Without that pick, Atlanta would be in a much worse spot.</p><p>The Saints have already restructured the contract of Derek Carr, which keeps him with the team through this season,” Reid wrote. “They also drafted Spencer Rattler in the fifth round last year. Let’s find out in this Seahawks five-round NFL Draft mock simulator from Pro Football Network.</p><p>The Seahawks own <a href="https://www.seahawks.com/news/following-trades-seahawks-hold-10-picks-in-2025-nfl-draft" rel="noopener">all but one of their picks</a> heading into the NFL Draft. Their fourth-rounder was part of the deal that landed Ernest Jones IV from the Titans during the season. They <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/grading-seahawks-steelers-dk-metcalf-trade">have an extra second-round pick from the Metcalf trade</a>, an extra third-rounder from the Smith deal, and compensatory picks in the fourth and fifth. In total it is ten picks for the Seahawks, eight of which we will use in this mock draft.</p><p>How can the Seahawks support Sam Darnold in his first season in the Pacific Northwest? Let’s find out in this mock draft.</p><h2><b>The Seahawks build from the secondary again</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Malaki-Starks-with-Georgia-Bulldogs.jpg"><figcaption>Brett Davis-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The most successful run in franchise history came when the Seahawks had the best secondary in the league. The Legion of Boom helped Seattle win their first Super Bowl and get to another. So when the opportunity arises to take a safety, John Schneider jumps at it. They trade up one spot with the Jets <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-football/georgia-football-news-malaki-starks-2025-nfl-draft-decision">to take Malaki Starks, a safety from Georgia</a>.</p><p>The trade is pick 18 and a 2026 second-rounder to New York for picks 17 and 110. The Jets had previously traded down from 7 to 17 with the Bengals.</p><p>Starks had a solid season in Georgia’s secondary in 2024. He picked off one ball and only allowed two touchdowns all season. Starks is a great tackler from the back, totaling over 150 in three years in college. That is the blueprint the Seahawks had during the Legion of Boom and could be again.</p><h2><b>Two second-rounders to help Sam Darnold</b></h2><p>First up in the second round is Seattle’s pick, 50th overall. With this pick, the Seahawks take Texas Longhorns offensive lineman Cameron Williams. Schneider has built this offensive line through the draft and Williams is another piece they could add. At 6’5″, there is no mistaking what position he will play in the pros. But he struggled at points in his one year as a starter, allowing five sacks in 15 games,</p><p>The Raiders pick comes up quickly, at 52nd overall. After the Giants take tackle Josh Conerly Jr from Oregon, Seattle gives Darnold a weapon with Jaylin Noel from Iowa State. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seahawks-news-seattle-heartfelt-tyler-lockett-tribute-stunning-move">Tyler Lockett’s time with the Seahawks also came to an end</a> this offseason and Noel could be his replacement. He racked up 1,200 total yards last year with the Cyclones but is only 5’11” so could be destined for the slot.</p><h2><b>Two more picks in the third round</b></h2><p>The Seahawks are back on the clock with the 82nd overall pick in the third round. Here they tack Josaiah Stewart, an edge rusher from the University of Michigan. Seattle’s defense struggled last year and Macdonald should be looking to add elite talent to that group. Stewart had 18 sacks across three college seasons which started right after Macdonald left Ann Arbor. He should have some familiarity with the defense before coming to Seattle.</p><p>The pick the Seahawks got for Smith comes here at number 92. With the pick, they take Dylan Fairchild, an offensive guard from Georgia. Keeping Darnold upright was the key to his success in Minnesota. So taking an SEC lineman here is a smart way to build their line. Teams are looking for a diamond in the rough in the third round and Seattle may have found it in Fairchild.</p><h2><b>The Seahawks finish with four offensive picks</b></h2><p>The Seahawks have one pick in the fourth round, 110 from the Jets trade, and three in the fifth round. They traded number 137, the last pick of the fourth, to the Patriots for a fifth and a seventh in this draft. Let’s get started with 110.</p><p>The Seahawks are on the clock after taking Fairchild and snag another offensive lineman, Ozzy Trapilo from Boston College. Seattle allowed the third-most sacks in the league last year and can’t put Darnold in the same position. Taking as many shots at the offensive line as possible is not a bad thing.</p><p>The Seahawks picked up pick 144 in the Patriots trade and used it on another offensive lineman. Trey Wedig was important to Indiana’s success this year and heads to Seattle with this fifth-rounder. At this point, Schneider has probably added enough to the offensive line. Hitting on just one of these picks will make this a successful draft for Seattle.</p><p>Now for the first of Seattle’s two compensatory picks in the fifth round. The Seahawks add another member to the rotating cast of tight ends. Clemson tight end Jake Briningstool has not been a massive player in the passing game but could be a key blocker. With less than 100 catches between their three tight ends last year, they could use a playmaker at the position. Maybe Briningstool can evolve into that player.</p><p>Only one pick left for the Seahawks in the first five rounds of this NFL mock draft simulator. With the 175th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Seattle selects San Jose State wide receiver Nick Nash. The 6’3″ Nash took a massive step forward in his last season with over 1,300 total yards. Smith on X.</p><p>Interestingly, this isn’t a restructure of his deal. Nwosu <a href="https://x.com/hawkblogger/status/1902556931744833545" rel="noopener">has accepted</a> a $7 million pay cut for the 2025 season, per Brian Nemhauser on X. In return he will get $6.98 million in guaranteed money and a $4 million signing bonus.</p><p>The Seahawks now have the second-most salary cap space in the NFL, behind only the New England Patriots. <a href="https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space" rel="noopener">Over The Cap</a> shows Seattle with $70 million in space, although that figure doesn’t include the team’s recent free agent signings.</p><h2><b>Uchenna Nwosu is the latest Seahawks cap-savings victim</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Uchenna-Nwosu-takes-big-2025-pay-cut-in-cap-saving-move-2.jpg"><figcaption>Joe Nicholson-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Nwosu was selected in the second round of the 2018 draft by the Los Angeles Chargers. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the team before signing with the Seahawks in 2022.</p><p>Nwosu enjoyed the best season of his career with Seattle in 2022. He racked up career highs in total tackles (66), sacks (9.5), forced fumbles (3), fumble recoveries (2) and passes defended (4). Following the season he signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Seahawks.</p><p>However, since inking his extension, Nwosu has struggled with injuries. He’s missed 22 games over the last two seasons. In 2023 he landed on IR with a season-ending pectoral injury. Then last year, an MCL sprain kept him sidelined for the first four games and a thigh injury in his season debut knocked him out seven more weeks.</p><p>The Seahawks entered the offseason ready for some major changes. After missing the playoffs in 2024, the team took stock of its highest-paid players. Then Seattle got rid of all of them with the exception of Leonard Williams and Nwosu.</p><p>Smith was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/steelers-news-pittsburgh-blockbuster-dk-metcalf-trade-seahawks">DK Metcalf was traded</a> to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tyler Lockett was released, Dre’Mont Jones was cut and Nwosu had his pay slashed.</p><p>However, this isn’t just a simple fire sale. The Seahawks have been hard at work replacing their former players with free agents. The 31-year-old wide receiver is still a free agent after tearing his ACL in Week 8 of the 2024 season. </p><p>After getting traded for a second-round pick by the  Buffalo Bills, Diggs’ injury ended his sole season with the Houston Texans. NFL.com’s Nick Shook speculated that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/ranking-3-best-stefon-diggs-landing-spots-2025-nfl-free-agency" rel="noopener">Seattle Seahawks would be an ideal fit for Diggs</a> in 2025.</p><p>Diggs’ capacity for creating separation would be <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/best-nfl-team-fits-for-notable-remaining-free-agents-aaron-rodgers-to-giants-keenan-allen-to-raiders">most beneficial if attached to a low-risk contract</a>, according to Shook. There’s playmaking potential to be mined from Diggs. </p><p>In 2023, Diggs’ final full season as a starter, Diggs reeled in 107 catches for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/bills-news-stefon-diggs-reveals-his-immediate-reaction-to-buffalo-trade" rel="noopener">but the Buffalo Bills traded Diggs</a> amid rumors of a fractured relationship with Josh Allen, coupled with a diminished production as he approached his 30s.</p><h2><b>How would Stefon Diggs fit in the Seahawks system?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Texans_a042fe.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: Thomas Shea-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Seahawks’ offense has undergone one of the NFL’s most dramatic renovation jobs this offseason. At the dawn of free agency, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-seattle-adds-wr-dk-metcalf-tyler-lockett-departures">Seahawks released Tyler Lockett, traded DK Metcalf</a> to the Pittsburgh Steelers, then jettisoned Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders. Smith was replaced with Sam Darnold, who signed a three-year, $100 million contract, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-cooper-kupp-has-fans-buzzing-definitive-seattle-declaration">followed by the signing of Cooper Kupp</a>. The door on the Pete Carroll era was closed quicker than an SNL set change.</p><p>On the surface, Diggs has an outstanding resume. He has caught passes from some of the NFL’s most reputable arms, ranging from Kirk Cousins to Josh Allen, and CJ Stroud. However, there are a slew of downsides. Diggs’ recent stints were overshadowed by his irritability and an insatiable desire for more targets. </p><p>Those issues would only be magnified on a depth chart below Jaxon Smith-Njiba and Cooper Kupp. Diggs’ presence would be beneficial because of Kupp’s injury history. The 31-year-old <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-cooper-kupp-difficult-admission-rams-exit">has missed at least five games in each of the last five seasons</a>. In 2018, Kupp tore his ACL against the Seattle Seahawks. Having two injury-prone, receivers over 30 on the Seahawks roster is tempting fate. </p><p>Given what we know about Diggs, it would be a risky gamble.  He’d have to be open to a reduced role as the third option in an offense behind Smith-Njiba and Kupp. Presumably, new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak will be airing it out less frequently as well. </p><p>If Seattle wants to risk it for the championship biscuit, it can take a flier on a potentially desperate version of Diggs who is eager to stand out in a winning culture. His best season came during LA’s Super Bowl run in 2021. During that season, Kupp had an unreal 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns.</p><p>He is still an incredibly talented wide receiver, but he has never reached those heights since. Without a doubt, it has been difficult,” Kupp said via ESPN’s Brady Henderson.</p><p>Kupp added that he was not motivated to stay in the NFC West just so he could play the Rams twice a year. Instead, Kupp’s motivations seem a little more personal.</p><p>Kupp grew up in Washington State, specifically in Yakima, and attended college at Eastern Washington. Kupp emerged as a superstar in the league in the 2021 season by earning the triple crown. He led the league in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947), and receiving touchdowns (16) in Matthew Stafford’s first year with the team. The Rams won the Super Bowl that season beating the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20.</p><p>However, since then, Kupp has missed 18 out of 51 possible games in the past three seasons due to injury.
