Many have expected regression out of the pass-catching back for years now, but even at age 30, he is still going strong. Kamara’s New Orleans Saints don’t have a pretty outlook for their upcoming season, but can the running back still be fantasy football viable?</p><h2><b>Alvin Kamara’s 2024 fantasy football statistics </b></h2><p>Kamara is heading into his ninth NFL season. He has been a fantasy beast since day one. The Tennessee product has PPR format<a href="https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/stats/rb.php" rel="noopener"> finishes of</a> ninth, 11th, 16th, eighth, first, ninth, fourth, and third, dating back to his rookie season in 2017, according to fantasypros.com. Last year, Kamara ran for 1,299 yards and six touchdowns.</p><p>Of course, actual rushing of the football has always been a secondary skill for Kamara. His best attribute is his ability to catch passes out of the backfield, which is why he ranks so much better in PPR leagues than in standard formats. In PPR, Kamara had 265.3 fantasy points last season, but he only ranked 15th among running backs in standard leagues with his 197.3 points. Kamara had 68 catches for 583 yards last season. Earlier in his career, Kamara regularly surpassed 80 receptions per season. He hasn’t hit that mark in four years, but he is still one of the best pass-catching running backs in the NFL.</p><p>Kamara isn’t a one-dimensional player, though. Kamara is quick and elusive, and he thrives when he is able to get outside of the tackles. He is no slouch as a power running back, either.</p><h2><b>Alvin Kamara’s 2025 fantasy football projections </b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/771877935-alvin-kamara-saints-coach.jpg"><figcaption>Stephen Lew-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Kamara’s days as arguably the top fantasy running back in the sport are probably over, but he is still consistent enough to warrant a late-third-to-mid-fourth round pick. Kamara is <a href="https://fantasy.espn.com/football/players/projections" rel="noopener">expected to</a> run for 916 yards and six touchdowns in 2025, according to ESPN. He is supposed to add 75 catches for 575 yards. Those numbers are in line with what Kamara has produced in recent years.</p><p>Age 30 is the magic number for when many running backs typically regress significantly. That isn’t the only factor going against Kamara. He also plays for a Saints team with arguably the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/ranking-all-32-nfl-starting-quarterbacks-ahead-of-the-2024-season">worst quarterback situation in football</a>, so defenses might be able to focus on the rushing attack.</p><p>Whoever starts between Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough will likely rely heavily on Kamara, though, especially as a security blanket dump-off option. The Saints will likely give their running back plenty of carries because they don’t want to overextend their young signal-callers, too. Considering Kendre Miller hasn’t developed like many expected, there isn’t much competition for carries in New Orleans, either.</p><h2><b>Fantasy football running back rankings</b></h2><p>Kamara’s <a href="https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/adp/overall.php" rel="noopener">average draft position</a> is 38.5, and fantasypros.com lists him as the number 16 running back this season. By that metric, Kamara is considered just an RB2, but his upside is much greater than that in PPR leagues. Even if he doesn’t put up big numbers on the ground, Kamara is going to catch passes. The running back probably doesn’t have a lot of time left as an elite player in the NFL, but he should be good for at least one more solid fantasy season.</p><p>Kamara isn’t the most consistent fantasy player on a week-to-week basis. He’ll likely have some performance duds, but he also has had explosive games before, including multiple 40-point-plus fantasy performances. These games are usually enough to win fantasy matchups, so if Kamara slides in drafts this year, scooping him up would be smart.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The quarterback change will be the third of Kamara’s career, after previously playing with Drew Brees and Jameis Winston.</p><p>Despite his advanced age, Kamara is coming off a career-high 950 rushing yards in 2024. While his first 1,000-yard campaign continues to elude him, Kamara maintained his traditional workhorse role in year eight. Even during New Orleans’ current state of limbo, Kamara figures to remain a featured part of the offense.</p><p>Kamara will also deal with another coaching change, with Kellen Moore making his head coaching debut in the fall. As a renowned offensive guru, Moore is likely to have multiple packages centered around his star running back already prepared.</p><p>The Saints begin the 2025 season on Sept. 7 against the Arizona Cardinals at home. Then, they made headlines again after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/saints-news-derek-carr-retires-amid-shoulder-injury">quarterback Derek Carr announced he was retiring from football</a> due to a prolonged and nagging shoulder injury. It has been a rollercoaster offseason. But now, with mandatory minicamp underway, the headlines have shifted to more basic cuts or signings, including the <a href="https://x.com/AroundTheNFL/status/1933654362770874705">recent signing</a> of running back Cam Akers after a tryout.</p><p>Akers signed with the Saints after spending two practices during mandatory minicamp. He joins Alvin Kamara, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Kendre Miller, and rookie sixth-round pick Devin Neal in a crowded backfield. Kamara is easily the best running back on the roster, but the battle will be over who wins the job for the second string.</p><p>The 2020 second-round pick turns 26 in June and still has plenty left in the tank as a running back in the NFL, but it might not be as a starter. The Los Angeles Rams drafted him, and after the 2023 season, traded him to the Minnesota Vikings. Then, Akers signed with the Houston Texans for the 2024-2025 season, but the Texans traded him to the Vikings in his second stint with the team halfway through the season.</p><p>He finished the year with 104 carries and 444 rushing yards with two touchdowns. Then, he had 14 receptions for 68 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns.</p><p>Discussing the addition of Akers during Tuesday’s media session, Moore complemented what he’s seen from the veteran back, as he <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/new-orleans-saints-to-sign-free-agent-rb-cam-akers-after-minicamp-invitation-per-report/" rel="noopener">brings plenty of experience to the table</a>.</p><p>“Cam is an experienced player,” Moore said via CBS Sports. “He’s done a lot throughout this league. You’re always trying to evaluate as many players as possible as you go through this. So we felt like it was a great opportunity, and we are fired up that he wanted to come out here.”</p><p>His NFL career has been more bumpy than expected, especially after being a five-star recruit out of Mississippi and a standout at Florida State. In five NFL seasons, Akers has totaled 502 rushing attempts for 2,025 yards and 13 touchdowns, and he has also caught 52 passes for 388 yards and four touchdowns.</p><p>The new-look Saints are in line to utilize their ground game even more without Carr. Tyler Shough, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/saints-news-new-orleans-drafts-tyler-shough-not-shedeur-sanders-no-40">their rookie quarterback</a>, is most likely starting under center, and he will need help to get acclimated to the NFL. Now the team is searching for a new running back after losing leading rusher <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-rumors-dallas-prime-candidate-draft-ashton-jeanty-even-after-rb-addition">Javonte Williams to the Dallas Cowboys</a> this offseason.</p><p>The Broncos failed to add a replacement for Williams at the start of free agency, and one former GM believes the <a href="https://x.com/MaseDenver/status/1904988596807061520" rel="noopener">team is waiting</a> for the draft to land its RB1.</p><p>ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum sees Denver taking North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton with the 20th pick in the upcoming draft, according to Broncos reporter Andrew Mason on X.</p><p>“I just think Hampton’s speed, size, and his ability to catch, I think Sean’s going to have a tough time passing that guy up. I think he’s going to see Alvin Kamara,” Tannenbaum said.</p><h2><b>Broncos could bolster offense with running back Omarion Hampton</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Omarion-Hampton_c2b23f.jpg"><figcaption>Bob Donnan-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Hampton started turning heads after a standout performance at the NFL Combine. His measurables and college resume have some insiders believing <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-rumors-omarion-hampton-could-join-ashton-jeanty-first-round-after-combine">Hampton will be a first-round pick</a>.</p><p>Hampton put together back-to-back stelar seasons at North Carolina. Last year, he ran for 1,660 yards and scored 15 touchdowns while adding 38 receptions for 373 yards and two scores. The 6-foot, 220-pound back ran a 4.46 40 at the combine, cementing his status as one of the top backs in the draft.</p><p>That’s no easy feat considering the depth and quality of the 2025 running back class. Tannenbaum believes “You’re going to see over 20 running backs drafted,” per Mason.</p><p>Boise State’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-football/boise-state-football-news-ashton-jeanty-draws-maurice-jones-drew-comparison-2025-draft-combine">Ashton Jeanty should be the first RB selected</a>. However, it’s unclear where he’ll go in the first round. Still, he’s almost certain to be off the board before the Broncos are on the clock with the 20th pick. But Hampton is expected to be available. And Payton could add a potent offensive weapon capable of taking some pressure off second-year quarterback Bo Nix.</p><p>If Payton believes he’s found his new Alvin Kamara, it would be awfully hard to pass on Hampton. Payton, of course, coached Kamara for five years with the New Orleans Saints. The team showed some improvement under Rizzi’s lead, though, as they went 3-5 during his eight games in charge. He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">New Orleans Saints</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>On Sunday, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-linebacker-admits-dark-reality-after-loss-to-raiders">New Orleans Saints will close out</a> what has been a disastrous 2024-25 season with a road game <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-vs-buccaneers-predictions-pick-odds-spread-for-nfl-week-18-2025">vs their NFC South divisional rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers.</a> The Saints don’t have a ton to play for in this game, as they’ve already been eliminated from playoff contention, while the Buccaneers will be playing for their fourth straight division championship.</p><p>The Saints have been dealing with a plethora of injuries all season, and recently, the team got <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1874563608736358600" rel="noopener">an unfortunate update</a> in that department as it pertains to the game vs the Buccaneers.</p><p>“Saints RB Alvin Kamara (groin), QB Derek Carr (hand) and RB Kendre Miller (concussion) did not practice today,” reported NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Derek Carr was among the many Saints who missed significant chunks of this season due to injury, a season that started with much promise after a dominant 2-0 start.</p><p>As previously mentioned, the Buccaneers have a ton to play for in this one, as the team is in position to secure yet another NFC South championship with a victory, meaning they would get the opportunity to host the loser of the Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings game set to take place Sunday evening.</p><p>Making things even more interesting is the fact that if the Saints were to somehow pull off an upset and defeat Tampa Bay, they would be opening the door for their bitter rival Atlanta Falcons instead to take the NFC South, which isn’t likely something they’d normally be inclined to do.</p><p>The Saints would also cost themselves some draft position if they were to win, which could theoretically factor into their decisions regarding Carr and Kamara, among others.</p><p>In any case, the Saints and Buccaneers are slated to kick off Sunday at 1:00 PM ET from Tampa Bay.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Saints have not had the best luck with injuries, especially on offense.</p><h2>Saints continue to deal with injuries</h2><p>Along with Alvin Kamara, there’s a chance that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-newsderek-carr-very-unlikely-return-season-hand-injury">Derek Carr won’t return</a> for the rest of the season after suffering a hand injury weeks ago.</p><p>“Sources: Saints QB Derek Carr underwent further examination recently, and he’s at least a few weeks away from being able to withstand contact,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on X, formerly Twitter. “With 3 weeks remaining, a return this season is described as very unlikely. Carr has been out with a left hand fractured in two places.”</p><p>The Saints will now have to roll with either Spencer Rattler or Jake Haener as the starting quarterback for the rest of the season. Haener started in Week 15, but he was benched and Rattler took over.</p><p>The Saints have also lost Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed for the season, and their offense has been nowhere near the level it was at the beginning of the year. As of now, the Saints are just trying to compete and see what they have for next season, as the team will be looking for a new head coach to lead them. Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">New England Patriots</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>When news broke that Alvin Kamara had suffered a “<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl-week-15-injury-roundup-patrick-mahomes-alvin-kamara-more">groin adductor type of situation</a>” in Week 15 and his status moving forward was very much up in the air, the air came out of most New Orleans Saints fans’ sails.</p><p>Now granted, the 2024 season really hasn’t gone as planned, as the team has already fired their head coach after a white-hot start to the season and now sit at 5-9 in third place in the NFC South with no realistic chance to make the playoffs. But losing Kamara? The best player on the team? Talk about a bummer.</p><p>And yet, just when things look the most dire, GM Mickey Loomis came in clutch with a nice piece of business, signing <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-release-former-first-round-pick-week-15" rel="noopener">recently released running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire</a> to the practice squad in order to <a href="https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1869506661804876022" rel="noopener">help bolster their depth chart</a>, according to the team’s official social media account.</p><p>Pandering? Eh, maybe so, but then again, is that really a bad thing? Saints fans and LSU fans have an incredible crossover, and CEH played on some of the best Tigers teams in recent memories, becoming a first-round pick in 202, largely off of his 1,414-yard junior season back in 2019. Factor in that he was born in Baton Rouge, and bringing in Edwards-Helaire feels like the perfect buy-low move to make fans pop in an otherwise disappointing season.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Clyde-Edwards-Helaire-at-LSU.jpg"><figcaption>Christopher Hanewinckel-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><h2><b>Even Darren Rizzi is unclear when the Saints will have Alvin Kamara</b></h2><p>Discussing Kamara’s injury after Week 15, even head coach Darren Rizzi wasn’t sure what was going on with Kamara, noting that he had a groin injury but had <a href="https://www.nola.com/sports/saints/saints-alvin-kamara-groin-injury/article_ec68a818-bbf1-11ef-ade0-b7845a56146d.html" rel="noopener">no real timetable for his return</a>.</p><p>“He’s kind of dealing with a little bit of a groin adductor type of situation. It was very, very minor. I think he felt it on that diving touchdown catch, which was outstanding, by the way,” Rizzi said via Nola.com.</p><p>“So he’s going to get a couple of more opinions. A couple of more imaging things taken care of today, so we’ll kind of see where he’s at. At the moment, we kind of have the first set of images, and we’re going to kind of see what happens here with the second opinion. All that kind of thing.”</p><p><a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/schedule/_/name/no/new-orleans-saints" rel="noopener">Officially listed as questionable on Wednesday</a> in the lead-up to Week 16, Kamara’s future is very much up in the air heading into Green Bay Packers week. Fans, coaches, players, and executives alike must grapple with an ever-changing landscape as the playoffs approach, with teams pivoting to backups at several key positions.</p><p>Week 15 was particularly brutal, as there was a mix of season-ending, week-to-week, and day-to-day injuries to some of the biggest names in the NFL. When will they all return?</p><h2><b>Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes</b></h2><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-carson-wentz-vs-browns-patrick-mahomes-limps-off-injury">Mahomes went down</a> in the fourth quarter of the Chiefs’ 21-7 victory over the Cleveland Browns and didn’t return. The three-time Super Bowl champion is considered<a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1868714285314249033" rel="noopener"> week-to-week,</a> via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.</p><p>“Sources: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was diagnosed with a mild high-ankle sprain following tests, and he’s still considered week-to-week. Tests confirmed initial thoughts,” Rapoport reported. “The schedule is tough, with a Saturday game then a quick turnaround for Christmas.”</p><p>However, Mahomes <a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1868714582849785945" rel="noopener">hasn’t yet been ruled out</a> for Week 16, via Rapoport.</p><p>“The Chiefs will know more as the practice week rolls on, and there is a chance that Patrick Mahomes practices this week,” Rapoport said. “He’s week-to-week, so his status this week is in doubt.”</p><p>A source also told Rapoport that Mahomes will be “fine long-term,” which should bring down the state of Missouri’s collective blood pressure. However, head coach Andy Reid and company may opt to sit the future Hall-of-Famer to be safe.</p><p>With<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/chiefs-news-patrick-mahomes-chance-suit-up-week-16-ankle-injury"> Kansas City’s upcoming slate</a> of three games in 11 days, backup quarterback Carson Wentz might have to recapture some 2016 magic to keep the team on track ahead of the playoffs. Luckily for the Chiefs, their 13-1 record gives them breathing room ahead of the grueling stretch against the 9-5 Houston Texans, 10-4 Pittsburgh Steelers, and 9-5 Denver Broncos.</p><p>They’ve already clinched the AFC West and are two games ahead of the Buffalo Bills atop the conference. Kansas City will secure a first-round bye and home-field advantage in the playoffs if they finish as top seed.</p><h2><b>New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara</b></h2><p>Kamara is in the midst of another top-notch campaign, ranking 10th in the NFL with 950 rushing yards while adding 89 catches and 543 yards through the air. However, the 29-year-old’s <a href="https://x.com/Kat_Terrell/status/1868738922123268582" rel="noopener">momentum may be halted</a>, via ESPN’s Katherine Terrell.</p><p>“[Saints interim head coach] Darren Rizzi said Alvin Kamara’s injury is a groin abductor type of situation. He said it felt minor and he felt it on the touchdown, but he’s going to continue to go through tests,” Terrell reported. “But then when asked if it was minor, Rizzi said he wasn’t going to make a medical declaration.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-darren-rizzi-provides-murky-alvin-kamara-injury-update">Kamara got hurt</a> during his 21-yard touchdown reception from wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. on a trick play in the Saints’ 20-19 loss to the Washington Commanders. While the Tennessee alum’s timetable is still unclear, the star tailback can at least take solace in the fact that this isn’t a contract year for him, as he signed a two-year extension in training camp. While his season could be derailed with three weeks left, this ailment won’t hurt his pockets.</p><h2><b>Detriot Lions RB David Montgomery</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/NFL-Week-15-injury-roundup-Patrick-Mahomes-Alvin-Kamara-and-more-3.jpg"></figure><p>Speaking of running backs, Montgomery is one of the unluckiest players on this list. The reliable veteran is officially <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1868749266011013428" rel="noopener">out for the season </a>with a sprained MCL, via ESPN’s Adam Schefter.</p><p>“Now confirmed: Lions HC Dan Campbell said RB David Montgomery will undergo season-ending knee surgery,” Schefter said. “We’re going to miss him,” Campbell told reporters.</p><p>Montgomery is a crucial part of this injury-ravaged Lions team, and his absence could hurt their chances in the playoffs. The former Chicago Bear is the thunder to Jahmyr Gibbs’ lighting in Detroit’s backfield, making for the best one-two punch in the NFL. Montgomery finishes the season with 775 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 185 carries, as well as 38 catches and 341 receiving yards.</p><p>The 27-year-old went down during the Lions’ 48-42 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, which downgraded them to 12-2 on the season.</p><p>Detroit is now stuck in a logjam atop the NFC with the 12-2 Philadelphia Eagles and 11-2 Minnesota Vikings, and it has to stay afloat with one of the longest injury lists in the NFL. The defense is especially damaged, with edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson and linebacker Alex Anzalone just two of the prominent players <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/injuries/_/name/det/detroit-lions" rel="noopener">on injured reserve</a>, via ESPN.</p><h2><b>Dallas Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs</b></h2><p>Diggs, who is the star of Dallas’ secondary, is also getting<a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1868733715939311819" rel="noopener"> season-ending knee surgery</a>, via Rapoport.</p><p>“Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs will have surgery to repair an issue related to his articular cartilage, source said. His recovery could take up to 8 months,” Rapoport reported.</p><p>The shutdown corner finishes the year with 42 tackles and two interceptions in 11 games played.</p><h2><b>Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb</b></h2><p>Add Chubb to the list of NFL running back injuries once again. Less than two months after returning from a devastating knee ailment he suffered in Week 2 of the 2023 season, the four-time Pro Bowler is out for the year <a href="https://x.com/NFL/status/1868408967988461591" rel="noopener">with a broken foot</a>, via the NFL’s social media.</p><p>Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski believes Chubb’s foot may have <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/42989823/browns-rb-nick-chubb-breaks-foot-loss-chiefs" rel="noopener">been stepped on</a> in the third quarter of Cleveland’s loss to the Chiefs, via ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi.</p><p>The 2022 second-team All-Pro could be done with the Browns after seven seasons with them, as he will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.</p><h2><b>Pittsburgh Steelers LB T.J. He will continue to go through tests for the injury. Rizzi said he was not going to make any medical declarations when asked if it was a minor injury for Kamara.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-jake-haener-brutal-play-new-orleans-low-not-seen-since-2002">The Saints fell</a> to 5-9 on the season after their 20-19 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday, so playoff hopes are very slim at this point. Still, the Saints would like to finish the season strong. Rizzi especially would, as it would help him make a name for himself in NFL coaching circles, whether that is making a case to stay on as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-darren-rizzi-explains-benching-jake-haener-vs-commanders">the Saints’ head coach</a>, or make a case for another job opening down the line. Having Kamara on the field for the last three games of the season would be a significant boost, especially with Derek Carr likely missing more time. The Saints finish with three games against the Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.</p><h2><b>Where do the Saints go after 2024?</b></h2><p>The Saints fired Dennis Allen after a loss to the Carolina Panthers earlier this season, so the search for a new head coach will take place immediately after the season, whether that be Rizzi or a candidate from another team.</p><p>If Rizzi is not retained, the Saints could be linked to candidates like Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn, Mike Vrabel and more at the start of the offseason. New Orleans could have a head start on other teams when it comes to head coaching candidates, as other teams are likely to fire their coaches after the final day of the regular season.</p><p>Regardless, Kamara is a franchise staple and will try to help the team move into the future.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Luckily, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-darren-rizzi-crappy-day-after-clogged-stadium-toilet">the Saints were able</a> to get a stop and still win, but Kamara was still <a href="https://x.com/nick_underhill/status/1855721424729595972" rel="noopener">accountable after the game</a> when speaking about the drop.</p><p>“Before anyone even says anything, I just embarrassed everyone by dropping the ball. I’m sorry,” Alvin Kamara said, via Nick Underhill of neworleans.football.</p><p>Kamara also went on to say that his dropped pass <a href="https://x.com/MikeTriplett/status/1855721621023015135" rel="noopener">was the ‘lamest’ thing</a> he’s ever done on a football field, according to Mike Triplett.</p><p>The incomplete pass came with 1:48 left on the clock. Kamara could have gone in for a touchdown that would have made it a two-score game, or gone down after catching the ball to run out the clock. Instead, he dropped the ball <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-darren-rizzi-truth-bomb-first-win-replacing-dennis-allen">and the Saints</a> defense had to make one more stop, which luckily they did.</p><p>After a few first downs, the Saints forced Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins to fumble, setting up a 2nd-and-29. The Falcons eventually got it back to a 4th-and-4, but were unable to convert, as Cousins threw an incomplete pass.</p><p>Overall in the game, Kamara had 55 yards on the ground on 17 carries while also adding 54 receiving yards on five receptions. Obviously, the receiving numbers would have been a lot better if he had caught that last ball. Still, the Saints were able to get back into the win column for the first time since Week 2.</p><h2><b>Can Saints build off of win vs. Falcons?</b></h2><p>The Saints moved to 3-7 on the season with the win over the Falcons. Although it is a deep hole, the Saints will try to dig themselves out in the coming weeks. Next week presents an opportunity to get to 4-7 against the Cleveland Browns at home.</p><p>After that, the Saints have games against the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants. It was a long losing streak, but perhaps getting some players back healthy will help the Saints make a run late in this season. It will be interesting to see how they fare in the coming weeks, as the margin to make a run for a playoff spot is slim, but not impossible.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Saints have lost seven games in a row and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-dennis-allen-breaks-silence-on-new-orleans-firing">fired head coach Dennis Allen</a> after a disastrous loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 9.</p><p>Despite the bad vibes around the team, Kamara keeps on chugging, and he made a little franchise history against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 10. He has been the most productive piece of a Saints offense that has dealt with a number of injuries this year, including to quarterback Derek Carr. Entering Sunday, he had 660 yards and six touchdowns on the ground and had also caught 46 balls for 367 yards and a touchdown.</p><p>Unfortunately, that production hasn’t led to wins for the Saints. After starting 2-0 with a pair of very impressive performances where they scored 40+ points on offense in each game, New Orleans has sputtered out of control on both sides of the ball. They suffered blowout losses against the Chiefs, Buccaneers, Broncos and Chargers as they quickly fell out of the playoff picture.</p><p>A loss to the lowly Panthers was the last straw for Allen, who was fired shortly after the embarrassing defeat. Special teams coordinator <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-darren-rizzi-pissed-off-reaction-replacing-dennis-allen">Darren Rizzi was quickly named the interim head coach</a>, and now it remains to be seen whether he can cause some sort of turnaround in the locker room.</p><p>The Saints have also punted on the season from a personnel perspective. Before the clash with the Falcons, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/commanders-acquire-marshon-lattimore-in-blockbuster-trade-with-saints">Saints traded star cornerback Marshon Lattimore to the Washington Commanders</a> for draft compensation. The move signals that the Saints are already looking toward the future and aren’t as concerned with the results for the rest of the season. The team has lost five straight games to fall to 2-5 as injuries pile up. But there was some positive news for New Orleans as the Saints signed star running back <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-alvin-kamara-agrees-24-5-million-contract-extension">Alvin Kamara to a two-year, $24.5 million contract</a> extension Tuesday.</p><p>Longtime Saints defensive star Cameron Jordan <a href="https://x.com/camjordan94/status/1848876012211446005" rel="noopener">showed support</a> for his teammate’s big payday. “Yessssirrr!!! AK all the way,” Jordan posted on X in response to news of Kamara’s contract extension.</p><p>Jordan has spent his entire 14-year career in New Orleans after the Saints selected him with the 24th overall pick in the 2011 draft out of California. The eight-time Pro Bowl defensive end has been a team leader throughout his tenure with the Saints, recording double digit sacks in six different seasons.</p><p>Like Jordan, Kamara has spent his whole career in New Orleans. The five-time Pro Bowl RB was selected in the third round of the 2017 draft. He’s been one of the few bright spots for the Saints this season, playing in all seven games and carrying the ball 111 times for 438 yards and six touchdowns. Kamara has also added 34 receptions for 252 yards and another score.</p><h2><b>Cameron Jordan is thrilled Alvin Kamara is staying with the Saints</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Alvin-Kamara_7c0466.jpg"><figcaption>Stephen Lew-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Despite his efforts, the Saints are in a tailspin. The team’s Week 7 loss to the Denver Broncos has the team mired in third place in the NFC South. Even Kamara acknowledged the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-alvin-kamara-brutally-honest-saints-sad-state">sad state of affairs surrounding the Saints</a>.</p><p>After a hot start that saw New Orleans come <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-derek-carr-new-orleans-fall-4-points-shy-nfl-history">close to making history with a 2-0 start</a>, the team has spiraled. Injuries have played a major role. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-derek-carr-leaves-chiefs-game-potential-injury">Saints lost quarterback Derek Carr in Week 5</a> and turned to rookie QB Spencer Rattler. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-chris-olave-ruled-out-broncos-clash-with-concussion">Chris Olave is dealing with a concussion</a> and breakout receiver <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-big-rashid-shaheed-injury-move">Rashid Shaheed was lost for the season</a> after undergoing knee surgery. Most recently, the team lost cornerback <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-defensive-weapon-carted-off-field-potentially-serious-injury">Paulson Adebo to a serious-looking right leg injury</a>.</p><p>Fortunately, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-dereck-carr-gets-huge-injury-update-from-dennis-allen">Carr is recovering well from his oblique ailment</a> and the latest injury update has the veteran passer returning for Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers. However, a loss in Week 8 would drop the team to 2-6 on the season, making it less realistic that the team can turn things around and make a playoff run.</p><p>At least the team has locked up Kamara for the future. The running back <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/saints-news-alvin-kamara-trade-request-rumors">shot down trade rumors</a> before the team committed to him with the recent extension.</p><p>The Saints travel to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers in Week 8.
