Jack Conklin suffered an injury in Week 1, and there’s a chance that he <a href="https://x.com/ScottPetrak/status/1966551439259443659" rel="noopener">may not play</a> this week, according to Scott Petrak of The Chronicle-Telegram.</p><p>“Browns coach Kevin Stefanski: RT Jack Conklin is questionable because of elbow injury sustained in opener. Eye is fine after getting poked in that game. Stefanski said it’s 50-50 whether he’ll play,” Petrak wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Conklin left the game against the Cincinnati Bengals after dealing with an eye injury. He went to the medical tent and then returned to the sidelines with his teammates, but never returned to the field. Stefanski noted after the game that Conklin got poked in the eye.</p><p>It was unknown that Conklin was dealing with an elbow injury, but it doesn’t seem like anything too serious. If he doesn’t play, Cornelius Lucas will most likely take his place, like he did when he left the game in Week 1.</p><p>Conklin is an All-Pro and has been with the Browns for six seasons, but <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-news-jack-conklin-brutal-injury-update-bengals">injuries have held him back</a> throughout his tenure. Nonetheless, he has been key to their blocking scheme, and when he’s on the field, things open up for the Browns’ offense.</p><p>The Ravens did not get much pressure on Josh Allen last week, and that should be a good sign for the Browns’ offensive line. Against the Bengals, they allowed Joe Flacco to be sacked only twice, but the rushing attack only produced 49 yards. However, all eyes are on rookie running back Quinshon Judkins, as there is a chance he could make his NFL debut on Sunday. With the game just days away, head coach Kevin Stefanski drops a hint regarding Judkins’ potential availability.</p><p>On Friday, Stefanski claimed that Judkins, who will turn 22 in October, is <a href="https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2025/09/browns-rb-quinshon-judkins-did-a-nice-job-this-week-and-is-on-track-to-face-the-ravens-even-though-hes-listed-as-questionable.html" rel="noopener">looking good in practice</a> leading up to the Ravens game, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. The Browns still have some time to activate the rookie running back, as he is still technically listed as questionable. But reports indicate he will potentially be available.</p><p>“Rookie running back Quinshon Judkins ‘did a nice job’ in practice this week, Kevin Stefanski said Friday, and appears to be on track to face the Ravens on Sunday. He’s listed as questionable for the game after signing his contract on Saturday, but if all goes as hoped, he’ll make his NFL debut and try to help the Browns avoid going 0-2.”</p><p>The Browns may take up until the final minute to make a final decision on Quinshon Judkins’ status. Stefanski has until Saturday afternoon to decide <a href="https://x.com/AkronJackson/status/1966552433791762824" rel="noopener">whether or not to activate</a> the former Ohio State Buckeye, per Zac Jackson of The Athletic.</p><p>“The Browns have until Saturday afternoon to activate Judkins and make a move if he’s going to play. The superstar running back finally responded with a rather candid answer.</p><p>When asked about Delpit’s claims, the 31-year-old running back <a href="https://x.com/jamisonhensley/status/1966231970381508668" rel="noopener">shrugged off the bold statement</a>, according to Jamison Hensley of WBAL Radio. Derrick Henry ultimately is going to let his game do the talking on Sunday.</p><p>“Derrick Henry was asked about Browns safety Grant Delpit, saying it was ‘not hard’ to tackle Henry. ‘Yeah, I saw that,’ Henry said. ‘His coach had a quote. He had a quote. We’ll see on Sunday.'”</p><p>Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski actually does not have a quote about Henry that would be considered bulletin-board material. However, wide receiver Jerry Jeudy <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-news-jerry-jeudy-stirs-the-pot-with-savage-shot-towards-ravens">did call out the Ravens’ secondary</a>, claiming that he doesn’t think that group poses a challenge for him.</p><p>The Ravens are coming off a tough 41-40 Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The response given by the Browns’ safety isn’t all that accurate, either, as Derrick Henry has been one of the best running backs in the league since being drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the 2016 NFL Draft.</p><p>The 31-year-old running back ended last season with 1,921 rushing yards (second most in the league) while also scoring 16 rushing touchdowns (led the NFL). His Week 1 performance in the 2025-26 campaign against the Buffalo Bills was wildly impressive, as he recorded 169 yards and two scores in that contest despite the Ravens losing 41-40 to Buffalo.</p><p>Grant Delpit appears to be ultra confident in himself and his teammates <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-news-jerry-jeudy-stirs-the-pot-with-savage-shot-towards-ravens">as the Browns aim</a> to get back in the win column after suffering a 17-16 Week 1 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Although his two-word take about Derrick Henry is highly questionable, he seemingly has the right mindset for Sunday’s matchup. Although Henry is looking like a future Hall of Famer, Cleveland has to do whatever it can to slow him down.</p><p>Delpit is in the fifth year of his career, all of which have been with the Browns. He’s been a tackle machine as well, as he tends to fly all over the field and track the ball carrier. Grant Delpit ended the 2024-25 campaign with 111 combined tackles (68 solo), a sack, and a fumble recovery. Now, it gets a boost with the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-quinshon-judkins-likely-to-make-debut-vs-ravens-after-nfl-meeting">debut of rookie running back Quinshon Judkins</a> in Week 2 against the Birds. This Browns vs. Ravens game could be great, as it will be another AFC North slugfest. Likewise, this Browns-Ravens Week 2 preview gives some bold predictions. These Browns-Ravens bold predictions will use reason and analysis from the opening weekend, along with past performances.</p><p>The betting odds for this game have Baltimore <a href="https://sportsbook.fanduel.com/navigation/nfl" rel="noopener">favored by 11.5 points</a>. Yet, there is a greater chance that it could also be a closer matchup than possible. It’s worth noting that the Ravens are just 2-6 against the spread in their past eight games against the Browns. That indicates that these have generally been great games. It also highlights how there have been some surprises and some great plays.</p><p>This Browns vs. Ravens game could be no different. Namely, there could be some shocks that fans don’t see coming. It could also turn out to be one of the best games of the weekend.</p><h2><b>Harold Fannin Jr. leads the Browns in targets (again) and yards</b></h2><p>Harold Fannin emerged, seemingly out of nowhere, to lead the Browns in targets (nine) in Week 1, overshadowing veteran tight end David Njoku. Fannin finished with seven receptions for 63 yards while also rushing once for three yards. Of course, Cleveland mostly threw the ball a lot because they just could not get anything going off the ground. Still, it was a sight to see, especially with Njoku getting six targets, with just three catches.</p><p>Anyone who watched Fannin play in college knows he was a stud. Significantly, he was excellent in his last rookie season for Bowling Green, catching 117 passes for 1,555 yards and 10 touchdowns. Njoku will still be an option. However, Fannin displayed something in Week 1 that illustrated the team could trust him even more going forward. Despite the presence of wide receiver Jerry Jeudy and Njoku, Fannin could be the guy again, especially if he lines up in the slot to give Joe Flacco an easy option inside.</p><p>It could also open up the offense, as it did for the Buffalo Bills in Week 1. The Ravens allowed Dalton Kinkaid to score a touchdown early in the game. Therefore, it allowed the Bills to open things up later. The Browns could apply the same strategy.</p><h2><b>Zay Flowers struggles against the Browns</b></h2><p>Zay Flowers had himself a game in Week 1, going off for seven catches on nine targets for 143 yards and a touchdown. Yet, there is always that doubt. Flowers had two games against the Browns last season. In the first game, he had seven receptions for 115 yards in a loss to the Browns. In the second, he had just one catch on two targets for 12 yards.</p><p>Flowers is one of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/3-hottest-baltimore-ravens-takes-coming-out-2025-minicamp">key players in a hot Ravens offense</a>. However, that has not stopped him from having duds. Flowers has not scored a touchdown in his career against Cleveland. Also, he has had two games where he has gone under 60 yards. For whatever reason, this Cleveland secondary has done a good job containing him half the time.</p><p>The Ravens are also a running team. They like to run with Lamar Jackson, and they like to run with Derrick Henry. Ultimately, that is not going to change anytime soon, and the team will always run the ball whenever they get a chance. It’s simply their identity. Unfortunately, it has a ripple effect on talented players like Flowers.</p><h2><b>Browns vs. Ravens is the highest-scoring game of Week 2</b></h2><p>When you look at this Browns-Ravens Week 2 preview, high scoring does not exactly come to mind, mainly because of Cleveland. Yet, it has happened before. Just two years ago, the Browns defeated the Ravens 33-31 on November 12, 2023, in a high-scoring thriller. While this team has destroyed the Browns before, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/ravens-news-john-harbaugh-addresses-baltimores-recent-history-4th-quarter-meltdowns">Ravens have also choked too many times</a> recently.</p><p>Going back to that Browns vs. Ravens game in 2023, it’s hard to forget that Baltimore had a huge lead then, too. The Ravens led 17-3 in the first quarter and 31-17 in the fourth quarter. Regardless, the Browns battled back to win the game. Joe Flacco may not be the greatest quarterback, especially at his age. Regardless, he can still chuck the ball deep and find receivers open when he needs to.</p><p>The Browns did not score many points last weekend against what was perceived as a bad Cincinnati defense. This week, they face a Baltimore defense that just blew a 40-25 fourth-quarter lead. While the Browns probably won’t be scoring many points this season, they always seem to show up against the Ravens. Judkins signed his rookie deal just before Week 1, leaving him with no time to prepare for their game against the Cincinnati Bengals.</p><p>Because of that, Judkins did not suit up for the Browns’ loss to the Bengals. Now, though, the Browns<a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1965801800772288699" rel="noopener"> have a concrete plan to get the running back ready</a>. After the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-quinshon-judkins-likely-to-make-debut-vs-ravens-after-nfl-meeting">running back attended a meeting with the NFL as part of their own investigation</a>, Cleveland is looking to get Judkins on the practice field, per Ian Rapoport.</p><p>“The plan is for Quinshon Judkins to practice tomorrow and Friday and determine his availability for Sunday at that point,” Rapoport reports.</p><p>Judkins was the Browns’ second-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft. After Nick Chubb’s departure, the rookie was expected to be the lead running back of the offense. However, Judkins was arrested early in the offseason due to a battery charge. As a result, Cleveland did not <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-running-back-lands-11-4-million-contract">sign the running back to his rookie deal until everything was sorted out legally.</a></p><p>The prosecution declined to press charges against the running back a few weeks ago, paving the way for the Browns to finally ink the rookie to his first deal. That being said, the NFL is still holding its own investigation into whether Judkins violated the league’s personal conduct policy. Depending on the results of the investigation, the Browns rookie could get fined and/or suspended for a few games.</p><p>The Browns lost their season-opener against the Bengals. With Judkins out, the Browns relied mostly on Dylan Sampson on the ground game, with Jerome Ford taking the occasional snap. The result was a mixed bag: Sampson had 12 carries for a measly 28 rushing yards, but he also caught eight passes for 66 yards. Ford fared worse: getting six carries but only getting eight yards. That’s where Andre Szmyt comes in, as the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-most-blame-close-week-1-loss-bengals">kicker missed an extra point</a> and a field goal in the loss.</p><p>With that kind of loss, some teams look to make changes at the position, and after the game, head coach Kevin Stefanski said he wasn’t there yet when it came to bringing in competition.</p><p>“I’m not there,” Stefanski said. “You know, like most type of things. You know, points are at premium obviously. So that’s frustrating. Andre’s had a really good camp. He’s done a nice job for us. So I’m not there.”</p><p>Well, Stefanski <a href="https://x.com/DMRussini/status/1965793631069155474" rel="noopener">doubled down on that notion</a> days later and confirmed that Szmyt will be the kicker for Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens, according to The Athletic’s Zac Jackson.</p><p>“Just like any young player, he’ll continue to get better,” Stefanski said.</p><p>Szmyt has the opportunity to turn the narrative around in Week 2, and Stefanski seems to believe in him doing so. If Szmyt doesn’t take advantage of his chance then, it would not be a surprise to see the team bring in some competition. Against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Browns did nearly everything right, except finish the job. For the Browns, a <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/boxscore/_/gameId/401772829">17-16 loss</a> that slipped away despite statistical superiority raises uncomfortable questions about who truly deserves the blame.</p><h2><b>How the Browns let it slip away</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Sep-7-2025-Cleveland-Ohio-USA-Cleveland-Browns-quarterback-Joe-Flacco-15-throws-during-the-first-half-against-the-Cincinnati-Bengals-at-Huntington-Bank-Field.jpg"></figure><p>Cleveland dropped their 2025 season opener to the Bengals in heartbreaking fashion. The Browns dominated statistically, outgaining Cincinnati 327-141 in total yards and holding the ball for nearly 36 minutes. That said, several errors proved costly. Rookie kicker Andre Szmyt <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cincinnati-bengals/bengals-news-joe-burrow-one-point-win-browns-perspective">missed an extra point</a> after a touchdown and later hooked a 36-yard field goal attempt that would have given the Browns the lead. Those lost points loomed large in a game decided by the slimmest of margins.</p><p>Quarterback Joe Flacco threw for 290 yards and a touchdown. However, his two <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-news-joe-flacco-gets-brutally-honest-backbreaking-drops-to-ints">interceptions helped swing momentum</a>. Cincinnati’s defense stepped up when it mattered most, too. DJ Turner and Jordan Battle made game-changing picks in the second half. Despite the Bengals’ offensive struggles, Cleveland failed to capitalize in the closing moments. They started their final drive pinned at their own one-yard line. Head coach Kevin Stefanski admitted afterward that the missed kicks made the difference. This underscored how squandered opportunities and turnovers turned a dominant statistical performance into a bitter Week 1 loss.</p><p>Here we’ll try to look at and discuss the Cleveland Browns personnel most to blame for close Week 1 loss to Bengals.</p><h2><b>Kicker Andre Szmyt shoulders the heaviest blame</b></h2><p>The most obvious culprit in this loss is Szmyt. The rookie kicker cost Cleveland four points in a game they lost by one. Missing an extra point can rattle a team. However, missing a 36-yard field goal with the game hanging in the balance is the kind of mistake that keeps coaches awake at night.</p><p>To be fair, this was Szmyt’s NFL debut. Rookie nerves often strike even the most talented specialists. Still, the NFL is a results business. Missed kicks in close games are magnified. If this continues, the Browns may be forced to look elsewhere for stability on special teams. For now, Szmyt owns a spotlight he never wanted.</p><h2><b>Jerome Ford fades from the backfield picture</b></h2><p>If there was ever a chance for Jerome Ford to prove he could be a dependable option, this was it. With Quinshon Judkins sidelined, Ford had the opportunity to seize <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/browns-news-why-quinshon-judkins-hasnt-signed-rookie-contract">control of the running back rotation</a>. Instead, he delivered just eight total yards on six uninspired carries. He failed to break first contact, showed no burst, and looked hesitant hitting the line of scrimmage.</p><p>Meanwhile, rookie Dylan Sampson seized his moment. Out-snapping Ford, 14 to 7, Sampson flashed versatility in the receiving game and gave Stefanski’s offense a spark. Ford may now be relegated to a backseat once Judkins returns. This was more than just a poor performance. It was a squandered audition.</p><h2><b>Offensive line cracks under pressure</b></h2><p>The Browns’ offensive line has long been the backbone of Stefanski’s zone-blocking scheme. However, cracks appeared at the worst times. Dawand Jones, getting his first start at left tackle, endured a nightmare afternoon. He was penalized four times (two accepted) and allowed seven pressures. As such, he drew a dismal 29.9 grade from Pro Football Focus. That kind of performance not only stalled drives but put an immobile veteran like Flacco at significant risk.</p><p>Joel Bitonio, Ethan Pocic, and Wyatt Teller offered steadier protection in the passing game. That said, their run-blocking was pedestrian at best. The once-elite interior trio failed to open consistent rushing lanes. That left their backfield stuck in neutral. If Cleveland can’t rediscover its dominance in the trenches, the offense will continue to lean too heavily on Flacco’s arm. That’s a dangerous gamble at this stage of his career.</p><h2><b>Receivers’ drops prove costly</b></h2><p>Quarterbacks are often judged by turnovers, but context matters. Flacco’s two interceptions were products of his receivers failing him in key spots. Jerry Jeudy let one ball slip through his hands. That resulted in an interception by Battle. Cedric Tillman followed suit in the fourth quarter, deflecting a catchable pass straight into Turner’s arms.</p><p>These weren’t fluky mishaps. They were avoidable errors that altered the game’s trajectory. Drops kill drives, but when they morph into turnovers, they’re devastating. Jeudy, in particular, needs to clean up his consistency if he wants to justify his role as a featured target.</p><h2><b>Joe Flacco deserved better support</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Cleveland-Browns-quarterback-Joe-Flacco.jpg"><figcaption>Ken Blaze-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Lost in the finger-pointing is the fact that Flacco played a strong game under difficult circumstances. He completed nearly 69 percent of his passes and added a touchdown. His command of Stefanski’s offense was evident. For stretches, he looked like the steadying veteran Cleveland needed.</p><p>The interceptions will blemish his stat line, but both were the fault of his receivers. Flacco gave the Browns a chance to win; others around him squandered it. The veteran delivered enough to keep hope alive, though he needs more help if that hope is to translate into wins.</p><h2><b>Accountability must come fast</b></h2><p>Week 1 losses don’t define a season, but they do expose fault lines. For Cleveland, this game laid bare issues on special teams, in the backfield, along the offensive line, and at wide receiver. The Browns obviously can’t afford to waste dominant statistical performances with self-inflicted wounds. They were objectively the better team between the lines, but not on the scoreboard. He won the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year for his remarkable efforts after signing as a free agent midseason.</p><p>In his first game back with Cleveland after spending 2024 with the Indianapolis Colts, he ended the day with 31 completions out of 45 attempts for 290 yards and a touchdown.</p><p>However, he threw two interceptions and saw some of his passes end in drops from his receivers. He <a href="https://x.com/AkronJackson/status/1964786900864221244" rel="noopener">reflected on the loss</a> after the game, per reporter Zac Jackson. The veteran quarterback knew that his mistakes hurt the team’s chances of winning but understood that comes with the game of football.</p><p>“That’s football. Four players obtained five or more catches for over 50 yards each. Jerry Jeudy led the way with five receptions for 66 yards, Dylan Sampson had eight catches for 64 yards, while Harold Fannin Jr. made seven receptions for 63 yards. Meanwhile, Cedric Tillman recorded five catches for 52 yards and a touchdown.</p><p>The Browns will look to bounce back in their next matchup, remaining on the road. However, despite Cincinnati landing the first punch, Cleveland did not lose a step.</p><p>The Bengals took a 14-10 lead into halftime, but the lead did not last. Flacco found wide receiver Cedric Tillman for a short touchdown to take a 16-14 lead in the third quarter.
