They already made some moves in free agency, most notably bringing in Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams, both running backs. But they have been c<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cowboys-rumors-2-ohio-state-rbs-draft-radar">onnected to two Ohio State running backs, Quinshon Judkins and Treyveon Henderson</a>, ahead of the NFL Draft.</p><p>The Buckeyes won the National Championship this year, partly thanks to their excellent running game. The last time they did that was in 2015, with Ezekiel Elliott carrying the rock. Elliott was drafted fourth overall by the Cowboys in the draft and had an excellent rookie season. Repeating history is dangerous in the NFL Draft, but Judkins and Henderson are both great options.</p><p>The Cowboys would not have to spend the 12th overall pick on either Judkins or Henderson. If those are their targets in the first round, the trade down would be possible. But trades need two sides, so someone would have to trade up. While Smith didn’t play his entire career in Dallas, he had his greatest successes with the star on his helmet and will go down in sports history as a member of the franchise as a result.</p><p>And yet, at the moment, it doesn’t feel too good for Smith to be a Cowboys legend, as his team simply hasn’t kept up with the winning ways that made them America’s Team last century.</p><p>Discussing his recent experience as a Cowboys legend with 96.7 FM The Ticket, Smith noted how upset he gets every time an Eagles fan <a href="https://www.inquirer.com/eagles/cowboys-emmitt-smith-eagles-super-bowl-20250414.html" rel="noopener">shouts their signature catchphrase at him at the airport</a>, as the NFL’s nouveau riche is starting to overtake the old guard blue bloods.</p><p>“I’m sick of it. We have allowed others to nitpick at the star [logo] and make fun of the star … Now all of a sudden over the last 20 years, [the Eagles] win two Super Bowls and they think they’re the best thing on the planet, and everywhere I go I hear, ‘Go Birds.’ I’m sick of hearing ‘Go Birds.’ I’m always asking where are you going? You still got a long way to go to catch us,” Smith said via the Inquirer.</p><p>“That part bugs me. It bugs me because in my heart, I truly believe our organization should be contending for an NFC championship and even a Super Bowl at least once or twice every decade because every team recycles every decade. For us not to be there for over the last 30 years is a crying shame.”</p><p>Well Smith, there’s an old saying that goes, ‘winning changes everything.’ A good team can become great with a Super Bowl win, a great team can enter the GOAT conversation with a few, and even a deeply flawed squad can see their names immortalized forever if they can bring home the big one.</p><p>If Smith wants to see the Cowboys talked about like legends once more and for Eagles fans to shut up when they see him – which, frankly, will probably never happen – all Jerry Jones needs to do is field a contender for the first time since VHS was the popular home entertainment format.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The 2024 campaign was the first time in well over a decade that future Hall of Fame offensive lineman <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-jets/jets-news-aaron-rodgers-protector-ir">Tyron Smith was no longer</a> on the team, as Smith last year suited up for the New York Jets.</p><p>Now, the Cowboys are helping Smith to usher in his retirement with <a href="https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1912189453071753345" rel="noopener">a touching gesture.</a></p><p>“Sources: #Cowboys legendary LT Tyron Smith is set to sign a one-day contract and retire as one of the organization’s all-time greats,” reported Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Smith was drafted by the Cowboys with the ninth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft after playing his college football for the USC Trojans. He made eight Pro Bowl appearances during his tenure with the Cowboys, including in every year from 2013-2019. He was also a two time First Team All Pro member.</p><p>Smith left the Cowboys to sign with the Jets this past offseason, appearing in ten games with New York before going down with a neck injury. It’s nice to see that he’ll get to officially finish his career with the organization where he became one of the NFL’s all-time greats.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Cowboys’ brass are also likely now turning their attention to the NFL Draft, which is slated to take place at the end of this month. Dallas has several holes to fill on their roster, including at the wide receiver position to give CeeDee Lamb some much-needed help.</p><p>The Cowboys also have seen a drop in production from their offensive line, which was one of the league’s best units throughout the 2010s and into the 2020s thanks in no small part to the contributions of Tyron Smith.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

And they’ve got <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/is-cowboys-micah-parsons-at-opening-of-offseason-program-amid-contract-talks">Micah Parsons in the offseason program</a>. However, Dak Prescott finally broke his silence on the Cowboys’ contract talks with Parsons.</p><p>Prescott has a good perspective because he did this same dance with the Cowboys last year. Prescott also participated in offseason work before landing his four-year extension before the first game of the regular season.</p><p>But Prescott said he didn’t have <a href="https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/dak-prescott-advises-micah-parsons-to-stay-positive-in-contract-talks-with-cowboys" rel="noopener">any sage advice</a> for Parsons, according to dallascowboys.com.</p><p>“I don’t have the full answer for it or I think all of mine would’ve been done a lot earlier than they were,” Prescott said, via the team’s website. “For him, just stay positive. And that’s in being a leader.”</p><p>Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the best may be <a href="https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/jerry-jones-micah-parsons-have-agreed-on-most-contract-details-still-work-to-do" rel="noopener">yet to come</a> for Parsons, according to dallascowboys.com.</p><p>“In every aspect of Micah, he’s got great potential to do more,” Jones said. “Every aspect, whether it be in my mind physically or from the standpoint of physically, he has a lot of potential and he is so capable mentally that he could make us all follow him a little bit.</p><p>“I think he’s that kind of individual and that kind of person. But I will tell you that those are the kinds of things that I want to personally have total and complete satisfaction that I’ve got a commitment from him, and that I can see that it’s not just contract talk.”</p><p>Jones said the talks remain a work in progress.</p><p>“I’m the one who has to sign the check and Micah’s the one that has to agree to it,” Jones said. “That’s the straightest way to get there is the one writing the check and the one agreeing to it talking, and that’s the principle that’s involved here.</p><p>“I don’t view it as urgent at all,” Jones said of coming to an agreement with Parsons. “Some say using the basis that the earlier you get something done the cheaper, well the earlier you get something done, a lot of times the more mistakes you make. And from another angle, Ashton Jeanty gave Kay Adams <a href="https://x.com/UpAndAdamsShow/status/1912122484444258347" rel="noopener">the inside scoop</a> on a meeting with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, according to a post on X.</p><p>“I did meet Jerry Jones,” Jeanty said. “It went well. We were just choppin’ it up, talking football, and talking about the Super Bowl.</p><p>“I came into the room and he was holding this championship belt and just looking at it. And I was like, ‘Where’s this gonna go?’ It was from some boxing championship they had at the stadium some years ago.”</p><p>Weird.</p><h2><b>Does RB Ashton Jeanty want to play for Cowboys?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Boise-State-RB-Ashton-Jeanty.jpg"></figure><p>The answer to that question is easy, Jeanty said. He attended Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas.</p><p>“It would be great,” Jeanty said. “It would be a special opportunity. Really to play for any team in the NFL would be great. But just the fact I grew up here, it would be just a little different.”</p><p>Jeanty projects as the No. 1 running back. The latest ESPN mock draft had Jeanty going to the Raiders at No. 6.</p><p>Last year with Boise State, Jeanty became only the second FBS player to eclipse 2,600 rushing yards in a season. He finished as the Heisman Trophy runner-up and has a <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/the-beast/2025/player/ashton_jeanty-running_back-rEw4u2PC213tn0LR/" rel="noopener">lot of good traits</a>, according to nytimes.com.</p><p>“With his low center of gravity and explosiveness, Jeanty has an uncanny ability to stay afloat through contact and be elusive in space,” Dane Brugler wrote. “He trusts his vision when following his blocks. But instead of predetermining his path, he displays outstanding reactionary reads to sort, cut, and create. Overall, Jeanty displays exceptional contact balance, run instincts, and versatility in the passing game, reminiscent of LaDainian Tomlinson. He has the talent to emerge as a high-level running back early in his NFL career.”</p><p>And those attributes are the reason why the Cowboys would likely have to trade up to get him. And if those two things aren’t ridiculous enough, Rich Eisen pleaded with Jerry Jones <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-news-mel-kiper-jr-dallas-reaching-pick-no-12-final-mock-draft" rel="noopener">to trade up</a> for Travis Hunter.</p><p>It’s 2025, and as long as somebody says it, it’s a story. So why not? Have at it, Rich Eisen.</p><p>“Jerry Jones, go trade for Travis Hunter. Do it,” Eisen said. “Go trade for Travis Hunter. You need an injection of superstardom. You need it, (and) you know you want (it).”</p><p>OK, let’s talk about how unrealistic this scenario would be.</p><h2><b>Could Cowboys trade for WR Travis Hunter?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Colorado-WR-Travis-Hunter_f9e1fa.jpg"><figcaption>Michael Ciaglo-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>First, let play the sleeping general manager game. Let’s pretend Hunter will make it past the Cleveland Browns at No. 2. And then let’s say the snoring New York Giants don’t take him at No. 3. Neither of those teams would be dumb enough to trade down nine or 10 spots, unless the Cowboys offered Parsons and a bunch of draft picks. But we have to assume here they are dumb enough to pass on Hunter, right?</p><p>Then you have the New England Patriots. What would the Cowboys have to pony up to get the No. 4 pick if the Browns and Giants have an epic fail on draft day? It’s mind-boggling. It’s not impossible, though, because NFL teams can be downright dumb.</p><p>That’s why the Cowboys keep winning the draft almost every year and getting guys like Micah Parsons because no other teams have enough foresight to project the kind of player he would become,.</p><p>Eisen continued his fantasy with “What makes sense is you’re paying Dak what you’re paying him, and you’re paying CeeDee what you’re paying him, and you’re paying Micah what you have to pay him,” Eisen said. “You’re paying Diggs, and you’re paying all the stars of your team.</p><p>“You trade draft capital of the future to get one of the biggest stars to come to this team since Randy Moss wanted to show up. This is what we’re talking about here, because it checks every box.”</p><p>Great. Wait, Eisen isn’t a Cowboys fan, right? Why does he want them to get Hunter? Maybe it’s tongue in cheek? Or maybe he thinks the salary imbalance, already overloading the Cowboys, would get worse quickly with Hunter on the books.</p><p>Dallas would likely have to trade this year’s No. 12 overall pick along with next year’s first-round pick, and this year’s No. 2 pick (44 overall). That’s a lot of capital for a player who has yet to play one down in the NFL.</p><p>Wait, you say, he’s a “generational talent.” Good. And he also said <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-news-dak-prescott-eye-opening-truth-bomb-hamstring-injury">positive things about the injury</a> that sidelined him last year. With those good notes at hand, here is the Cowboys’ perfect 2025 NFL Draft trade.</p><p>The Cowboys stand in the No. 12 slot in the draft and have 10 picks overall. However, seven of those selections are in rounds fifth through seven. The Cowboys have the No. 44 pick (Round 2) and 76 (Round 3) but don’t have a fourth-round pick.</p><p>So basically their ammunition — without dipping into next year’s picks — is their No. 44 selection.</p><h2><b>Will Cowboys make a trade to move up?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Jerry-Jones-Cowboys-Owner.jpg"><figcaption>Tim Heitman-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Jerry Jones can be unpredictable at times in the draft. But the Cowboys don’t often wheel and deal. They have done it only eight times in their history: including 1990 to grab Emmitt Smith). They also moved up in 2010 to get Dez Bryant.</p><p>However, the Cowboys haven’t traded up since 2012. But this might be the year to break that string. If they sit at No. 12, they will likely miss out on wide receiver Tatairoa McMillan. And this is the guy the Cowboys need.</p><p>There’s a chance the Saints will grab McMillan with the No. 9. Also, the 49ers might have their eye on him at No. 11. So the obvious team for the Cowboys to have a conversation with is the Carolina Panthers.</p><p>First, the Panthers have a weak organization. That is they’ve won only five games four times in the last six years. In other two seasons, they won seven and two games, respectively.</p><p>It’s easier to make trades with weak organizations. The Panthers probably have a poor draft strategy for 2025 just as they’ve done in previous seasons. Therefore, the Cowboys could offer their No. 12 pick and their second-round pick (No. 44), for the Panthers No. 8 and third-round pick (No. 74).</p><p>This would allow the Cowboys to leap past the Saints and 49ers and select McMillian.</p><h2><b>Why would McMillan be good for the Cowboys?</b></h2><p>McMillan would give the Cowboys an awesome combination alongside CeeDee Lamb.</p><p>McMillan’s 6-foot-4, 219-pound frame and skillset would give Prescott two top-flight targets on every snap. However, Jones said, “Right about draft time, picks get very premium right now. The trades relative to draft picks for a player, this is a possibly. In his final mock draft, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cowboys-rumors-mel-kiper-torn-over-rb-vs-wr-new-mock-draft">Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN surprisingly had the Cowboys reach</a> at the No. 12 pick and select North Carolina football running back Omarion Hampton, and he <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3FVwEZNARg&amp;t=1376s" rel="noopener">recently explained</a> why he believes that could happen.</p><p>While Dallas missed the playoffs last season, their roster isn’t as far away from contending for Super Bowls as it seems. They do need some playmakers on offense, though, particularly at the running back spot. That could lead them to target Hampton, who is viewed as a complete running back and one of the top overall prospects in this draft class by Kiper.</p><p>“Well, a lot of people think the Cowboys aren’t that far away, and of course they have had a running back in their past when they had Ezekiel Elliott and also Emmitt Smith,” Kiper said on his First Draft Podcast. “Omarion Hampton is a complete back, make no mistake about it; he’s a hell of a football player.”</p><p>“If you’re the Dallas Cowboys, and you got Dak Prescott, and you got a running back like this who’s complete, they don’t have anybody like this on their roster the last time I checked. Why not? … He’s got to go in the first round. Sure, but sometimes filling needs is more important than drafting for value, and that could result in Hampton landing with Dallas when all is said and done. And yet, instead of paying up for the best option on the open market, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-rumors-kellen-moore-coveted-cowboys-hc-gig-prior-brian-schottenheimer-hire">Jerry Jones and company instead promoted from within</a>, giving Brian Schottenheimer a chance to be a head coach for the first time in his career.</p><p>Does promoting Mike McCarthy’s offensive coordinator to a head coaching gig really shake things up enough to qualify as a big change? While the jury might still be out on that one, starting quarterback Dak Prescott is very excited about the hiring all the same, as he believes the Cowboys can use their <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/dak-prescott-says-brian-schottenheimer-has-the-whole-building-excited-for-a-new-chapter" rel="noopener">shared experience to grow the offense</a>.</p><p>“Just excitement. He’s been there the last three years, first year being a consultant, that it’s not any monumental conversations that needed to happen,” Prescott said via NBA Sports. “But his direction and the way he sees this offense going, the way he sees this team knowing, it’s clear throughout the team with the guys, with the men he’s hired as coaches, the way he’s got this whole building on the same page. Just excited for this chapter under him.”</p><p>Over his 14 years as an offensive coordinator at the NFL level, Schottenheimer has only led two top-10 offenses in terms of yards and four in terms of points, with his 2023 run with Dallas s<a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/SchoBr0.htm" rel="noopener">erving as the high-water mark of his career</a>. While his efforts in 2024 weren’t ideal, it’s hard to argue who really deserves that blame, as Prescott was only available for the first segment of the season, with Cooper Rush and Trey Lance in relief duty to close out the underwhelming campaign.</p><p>With their highest first-round pick in years on the books and a desire to shake things up in a meaningful way, who knows? Maybe Schottenheimer will see the Cowboys rebound in a major way in 2025 and end up in the postseason despite playing in the hardest division in the East.
