The Cowboys entered the offseason in bad shape financially but after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-news-36-6-million-dak-prescott-restructure-ceedee-lamb-move">restructuring Dak Prescott’s contract</a>, Dallas now has the <a href="https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space" rel="noopener">10th-best</a> salary cap situation in the league.</p><p>Wide receiver Brandin Cooks <a href="https://x.com/JosinaAnderson/status/1898445305059639328" rel="noopener">wouldn’t mind</a> if the Cowboys used some of that new cap space to re-sign him. “I’m expecting a good free agency since this is the first time that I would be a free agent in my career, but I’m also open to returning to Dallas. At the end of the day I’m just trying to win. I am fully healthy and have nothing to hide,” Cooks said per Josina Anderson on X,</p><p>The 11-year veteran landed on the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-news-brandin-cooks-injured-reserve-knee-infection">injured reserve with a knee infection</a> last season, which cost him seven games. However, he was able to return to the field in November and didn’t suffer any setbacks.</p><h2><b>Should the Cowboys re-sign wideout Brandin Cooks?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Brandin-Cooks.jpg"><figcaption>Chris Jones-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While his production suffered in 2024 as a result of the injury, Cooks was a useful secondary option for the Cowboys in 2023, when he had 54 receptions for 657 yards and eight touchdowns. It was his best scoring output since 2016 when he played for the New Orleans Saints.</p><p>“It’s just one of those things where they have to focus on what they have to get done first too. I would love to play with the Cowboys, at the same time they would have to use me right. I don’t think they fully used me to my strengths,” Cooks added, via Anderson.</p><p>The Cowboys have been busy this offseason. In addition to restructuring deals with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, the team re-signed defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-news-osa-odighizuwa-after-signing-80-million-extension">four-year, $80 million contract</a>.</p><p>And, of course, the Cowboys’ priority remains working out an extension with star pass rusher Micah Parsons. While <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/nfl-rumors-cowboys-micah-parsons-contract-extension-talks-underway">contract talks are underway</a>, Dallas has yet to reach an agreement on a long term deal with the All-Pro defender.</p><p>Entering his age-32 season, Cooks could be a cost-effective option for the Cowboys. His estimated market value is around <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/market-value/_/id/14429/brandin-cooks" rel="noopener">$5 million</a> a year, per Spotrac. And if he’s fully healthy, as he claims, he could provide Prescott with a reliable receiving target beyond Lamb. Last year, wideout Jalen Tolbert was the team’s second-leading receiver with 49 catches for 610 yards and seven touchdowns.</p><p>Cooks has had six 1,000-yard receiving seasons in his career. He studied journalism and communication at UConn.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Dallas Cowboys</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Dallas Cowboys reportedly <a href="https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1861878477319782846" rel="noopener">have activated</a> wide receiver Brandin Cooks from injured reserve ahead of Thursday’s game against the New York Giants, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-micah-parsons-hits-kavontae-turpin-bold-hof-comparison">The Cowboys are looking</a> to build off of their upset win over the Washington Commanders last week, and having Brandin Cooks back from injury is a boost. It will help out quarterback Cooper Rush, who is trying to keep things afloat for Dallas with Dak Prescott out for the remainder of the season. Cooks is back after previously having arthroscopic surgery due to a knee infection.</p><p>Cooks has just nine receptions for 91 yards this season <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl-rumors-insiders-speculate-on-wild-cowboys-raiders-bill-belichick-scenarios">for the Cowboys</a>, and he is in the back half of his career, but he is an experienced wide receiver who should help out the offense moving forward. It will be interesting to see his role in the game against the Giants. CeeDee Lamb will undoubtedly be the focus of the offense, but players like Rico Dowdle and KaVontae Turpin have been useful players for Dallas as well. It would not be a surprise to see the Cowboys somewhat pace Cooks when it comes to working him back into the offense, especially given that Rush is under center and not Prescott.</p><h2><b>Can Cowboys build off of upset win vs. Commanders?</b></h2><p>After the win over the Commanders, the Cowboys moved to 4-7 and kept some faint hope of a late-season run alive. They host a Giants team that is seemingly on the verge of imploding, who are likely to start their third quarterback in three games in Drew Lock after Tommy DeVito suffered a forearm injury in the previous game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is a great chance for the Cowboys to get back to 5-7.</p><p>After that, the Cowboys will play the struggling Cincinnati Bengals and Carolina Panthers. It is not totally out of the question that they could get back to .500, before a tough close to the season that includes games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles and Commanders. Given Jerry Jones’ recent comments on Mike McCarthy potentially extending with the team, this upcoming stretch of games is big for the organization. If the Cowboys show some life down the stretch and get back into contention for a wild card spot, while playing some competitive games against the tough teams on their schedule, McCarthy will have made a case to keep his job in 2025 and beyond.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

And they’re on the verge of welcoming back a key weapon onto the field.</p><p>According to CEO Stephen Jones, the Cowboys think that wide receiver Brandin Cooks <a href="https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10144776-cowboys-brandin-cooks-expected-to-play-vs-giants-after-injury-stephen-jones-says" rel="noopener">will be able to play for the first time in seven weeks</a>, via Bleacher Report.</p><p>“We’re optimistic that we’ll continue to get guys back. I think Cooks will be a player for us (on Thanksgiving),” said Jones.</p><p>Cooks has amassed 91 yards and one touchdown on nine catches this season.</p><p>However, the news isn’t as good for Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson. He’s still in concussion protocol after departing the Week 11 loss against the Texans, and isn’t likely to play.</p><p>In front of a nationally televised audience, the Cowboys and Giants will kick-off at 4:25 PM EST from Arlington.</p><h2>Cowboys wide receiver Brandin Cooks hasn’t played since Week Four</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Brandin-Cooks-runs-with-the-ball-on-September-26-1.jpg"><figcaption>Brad Penner-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>After the Cowboys defeated the New York Jets in late September, Cooks developed an infection in his knee following a procedure and needed another procedure to correct the issue that arose.</p><p>Before he went down with his ailment, Cooks <a href="https://www.kxan.com/sports/sports-illustrated/arena-nfl/si-dallas-cowboys-nfl/fb373b16/brandin-cooks-shows-leadership-with-message-to-cowboys-following-loss/#:~:text=%22At%20the%20end%20of%20the,because%20it's%20a%20long%20season.%22" rel="noopener">had been demonstrating leadership</a> by urging his teammates to have an even keel despite a loss, via KXAN.</p><p>“I think the biggest thing is always staying even keel throughout the season, win or lose,” he said. “At the end of the day, tune out the noise. You win one week and you’re the greatest, and when you don’t, well, we all know. At the least the Cowboys will have a silver lining in the wide receiver department.</p><p>Dallas designated Cooks to <a href="https://x.com/VoiceOfTheStar/status/1859255625298870598" rel="noopener">return to practice</a> on Wednesday, via team reporter Patrik Walker. He was joined by defensive end Marshon Kneeland.</p><p>Cooks has been out since Week 4 after developing an infection in his knee. Before going down with his injury, the wide receiver had caught nine passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. However, he was expected to be a major part of the offense after his 2023 outburst. Cooks’ debut in Dallas saw him catch 54 passes for 657 yards and eight touchdowns.</p><p>But when Cooks steps on the field, he’ll be entering a much different Cowboys’ offense. In the wake of Prescott’s injury, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-mike-mccarthy-cooper-rush-decision-trey-lance-twist-commanders-game">Cooper Rush has been asked to step up</a>. He hasn’t been up to the task as the season has slowly fallen away.</p><p>Rush threw for a career-high 354 yards against the Houston Texans, adding a touchdown and an interception. However, he fumbled twice, seeing one run back for a touchdown. Furthermore, he had just 45 passing yards a week prior against the Philadelphia Eagles.</p><p>Brandin Cooks is set to be a free agent after the season. He can use the end of his 2024 campaign as an audition for interested teams. He had a good one-year run with the Cowboys, but it’s unclear if they’ll pursue a reunion.</p><p>For now, Cooks and the Cowboys are focused on the Washington Commanders. Even if they aren’t in the hunt, the Commanders are a heated NFC East rival. With Cooks back in the fold, Dallas will attempt to see as much success as they can before making some major offseason changes.</p><p>Whether that includes the departure of Cooks is yet to be seen.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He has a Bachelor's Degree in journalism from Eastern Michigan University.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Dallas Cowboys</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cowboys-news-skip-bayless-unleashes-44-minute-meltdown">Dallas Cowboys are struggling mightily</a>, having fallen to 3-7 in the first 10 games of the 2024 season with their latest setback coming in the form of an embarrassing 34-10 loss to the in-state rival Houston Texans on Monday night at AT&amp;T Stadium.</p><p>But ahead of their next matchup against the division rival Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium on Sunday, they’re on the verge of getting a valuable piece of their lineup back.</p><p>Wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who hasn’t played since September 26 after suffering a knee injury, <a href="https://x.com/calvinwatkins/status/1858993474001137770" rel="noopener">is a possibility to play</a> according to head coach Mike McCarthy.</p><p>Cooks underwent surgery and has missed the last several weeks, leaving a major hole in the Cowboys’ offensive attack.</p><p>So far in 2024, Cooks has only hauled in nine passes for a total of 91 yards and a touchdown.</p><h2><b>Wide receiver Brandin Cooks is in his second season with the Cowboys</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Brandin-Cooks-gets-tackled-on-September-22.jpg"><figcaption>Andrew Dieb-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Cooks, who was selected with the 20th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, is in his second season with the Cowboys after being acquired in March of 2023 from the Houston Texans in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2023.</p><p>While a member of the Texans, Cooks stated in no uncertain terms that <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/35413610/texans-wr-brandin-cooks-want-part-rebuild" rel="noopener">he doesn’t want to be part of a rebuilding team</a>, via ESPN.</p><p>“I’m not going into this offseason thinking I want to be a part of a rebuild.
