As the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jaguars-news-hire-james-gladstone-from-rams-new-gm">Jacksonville Jaguars transition into a new era</a> in the 2025 offseason, the running back suddenly finds himself as a top trade candidate with training camp on the horizon.</p><p>While Etienne is still on his rookie deal, he celebrated his 26th birthday in January. Though still atop the Jaguars’ depth chart, he is easily the oldest member of the backfield, particularly with rookies Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen Jr. joining the room.</p><p>However, the biggest issue with Etienne is not his age. After bursting onto the scene and looking like a future superstar as a rookie, his production and efficiency have taken a nosedive. Etienne’s total rushing production and yards per carry have declined each year since his rookie season, reaching an all-time low in 2024.</p><p>After rushing for 1,125 in 2022, Etienne still topped 1,000 yards in year two, but did so on a putrid 3.8 yards per carry. Yet, he managed to hold off rookie Tank Bigsby to keep a firm grasp on the starting role, while notching a career-high 11 touchdowns.</p><p>Unfortunately, there were few positives to take away from Etienne’s 2024 campaign. Despite missing just two games, Etienne fielded just 150 carries, over 100 fewer than he did in 2023. He posted an even worse 3.7 yards per attempt, resulting in a career-low 558 rushing yards. Etienne ended the year with 18 fewer carries and 208 fewer rushing yards than Bigsby, marking the first time in his career he was not the Jaguars’ leading rusher.</p><p>Now at the lowest point of his career, Etienne has quickly fallen from a premier workhorse back to in danger of falling entirely out of the rotation. The Jaguars could look to move him before their 2025 offseason training camp begins to maximize his waning value.</p><h2><b>Travis Etienne is Jaguars’ top trade candidate</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Cowboys-could-make-a-move-for-Travis-Etienne-Jr.jpg"><figcaption>Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Since taking over the backfield as a rookie, Etienne has still started every game he has been healthy enough to play. However, with Bigsby’s second-year leap making him look like the far more effective runner, his grip on that role is much less secure than it was a year ago.</p><p>Etienne still took the majority of the backfield snaps, but his portion was much more even with Bigsby in 2024. After commanding a 73 percent offensive snap share in 2023, Etienne took just <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/jax/2024-snap-counts.htm" rel="noopener">47 percent in 2024</a>. In turn, Bigsby’s playing time rose from 12 percent as a rookie to 34 percent in 2024.</p><p>The two lead backs were already trending in opposite directions, but everything changed in the 2025 offseason. The Jaguars fired Doug Pederson and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-liam-coen-buccaneers-face-jacksonville-contract-agreement">replaced him with the offensive-minded Liam Coen</a>, who has already made an impact on the backfield. Shortly after hiring Coen, Jacksonville added Tuten and Allen in the draft to set up an intriguing positional battle in training camp.</p><p>While Allen is on the roster bubble as a seventh-round pick, Tuten enters the organization with a fair amount of hype. The 22-year-old earned second-team All-ACC honors in both of his years at Virginia Tech, racking up 2,022 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns in his brief tenure. As an explosive athlete with top-end speed, Tuten is arguably the best fit in Coen’s offense of the four running backs on the Jaguars’ 2025 offseason roster.</p><p>As good as Tuten has looked in the spring, Etienne still controls the backfield. But with the roster currently shaping up to form a three-headed monster, the Jaguars might find it in their best interest to trade one of their assets before the preseason begins. Etienne is not necessarily the weakest link of the group, but is the most expendable with value in the trade market.</p><h2><b>Potential Travis Etienne landing spots</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ravis-Etienne-doing-a-drill.jpg"><figcaption>Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK</figcaption></figure><p>Unlike many other running backs potentially on the trade block, Etienne still has quality years ahead of him. If the Jaguars make him available during training camp, many teams would be willing to relinquish quality assets to acquire his expiring contract.</p><p>Etienne could attract the likes of the New England Patriots or Dallas Cowboys, who both need backfield reinforcements. The Patriots and Cowboys each made their own running back additions over the offseason, but watching the group’s progress, or lack thereof, in training camp might be enough to entice further moves.</p><p>Etienne’s hometown team, the New Orleans Saints, could also use additional running back support. While Alvin Kamara still leads their group, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/2-saints-in-danger-of-getting-cut-after-2025-minicamp">Kendre Miller has largely underwhelmed</a> as his ideal complement. The versatile Kamara has infamously never reached 1,000 rushing yards in a single season, leaving a lot of touches up for grabs that are currently in question.</p><p>For Etienne, beginning the 2025 season with a new team could be the best course of action for his career. Many players in similar situations benefit from a change of scenery. Still just four years into his career, Etienne desperately needs a fresh start as an unfortunate victim of the Jaguars’ regime change.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

It could make the difference between another middling campaign and a legitimate playoff push. Note that the Jaguars have flirted with postseason relevance in recent years. Inconsistency on the defensive end, however, continues to hold them back. After a somewhat quiet offseason and a splashy but risky draft play, there’s one move left that could tie it all together.</p><h2><b>A Mixed-Bag Offseason</b></h2><p>The Jaguars didn’t have the most impressive foray into free agency. They largely added mid-level players to replace departed ones and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/broncos-news-evan-engram-sean-payton-conversation-led-signing">lost a terrific pass-catching tight end</a> in Evan Engram. It was a conservative approach that left many fans underwhelmed and analysts scratching their heads.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Trevor-Lawrence.jpg"><figcaption>Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union</figcaption></figure><p>Jacksonville made things much more interesting during the draft, though. New general manager James Gladstone <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jaguars-news-les-snead-weighs-in-james-gladstone-trading-up-travis-hunter">made an aggressive play</a> to go up and get wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter with the second overall pick. Sure, Gladstone parted with a second-round pick and a 2026 first-rounder to get Hunter. Still, he may, potentially, fill holes at both corner and receiver with the move. He also sent a message to the fanbase that the new regime will take bold steps to improve the roster whenever possible.</p><p>We’ll have to wait and see if Hunter lives up to the hype. Right now, though, he should boost Trevor Lawrence’s receiving corps immediately. New head coach Liam Coen, who helped coax a Pro Bowl campaign out of Baker Mayfield in 2024, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jaguars-news-trevor-lawrence-speaks-up-on-change-since-liam-coens-takeover">should also help Lawrence improve</a>.</p><p>This was the right approach by the Jaguars. Recall that they drafted Lawrence first overall in 2021 but have yet to see him play up to his draft status. The Clemson product made the Pro Bowl in his second season. However, he’s been decidedly average and has battled injuries in the two years since.</p><p>Here we’ll try to look at the perfect Jacksonville Jaguars move <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/depth/_/name/jax">to fill out their roster</a> before the 2025 training camp.</p><h2><b>The Defensive Hole to Fill</b></h2><p>The Jaguars’ defense in 2024 left a lot to be desired, particularly in the secondary. Jacksonville surrendered the most passing yards of any team in the NFL and logged the third-fewest interceptions. They had just six all year. Yes, they did make some moves to address the unit, signing Eric Murray and Darnell Savage. That said, neither brings the kind of ball-hawking ability or consistency this team desperately needs.</p><p>Murray, for all his experience, has just three interceptions across nine seasons. Savage has only two interceptions over the past three years. These are not the stats you want to see from players counted on to secure the back end of your defense. This is where Julian Blackmon comes in.</p><h2><b>Why Blackmon Is the Perfect Fit</b></h2><p>Blackmon has quietly emerged as one of the NFL’s most versatile and productive safeties over the past two seasons. After a rocky start to his career plagued by injuries, he has turned the corner in dramatic fashion. In the past two seasons alone, Blackmon has totaled seven interceptions.That’s more than the Jaguars’ entire safety room combined in 2024.</p><p>He’s not just a stat-padder either. According to Pro Football Focus, Blackmon ranks 23rd out of 171 qualifying safeties in both “Pass Rush” and “Coverage Grade.” That shows his multifaceted value. In 2024, he finished 12th among all safeties in interceptions and 21st in solo tackles. He has shown he can play both strong and free safety spots, providing the kind of schematic flexibility that would allow Jacksonville’s defense to get creative.</p><p>Adding Blackmon wouldn’t just be a talent upgrade. It would be a tone-setting move. Jacksonville’s secondary lacked a true identity last season. Blackmon brings not just production, but a physical, confident presence that would raise the level of those around him.</p><h2><b>Low-Risk, High-Reward</b></h2><p>The best part? Signing Blackmon wouldn’t break the bank. The market for safeties hasn’t been particularly robust in recent years. Blackmon remains unsigned this late into the offseason. Jacksonville could likely ink him to a short-term deal with modest guarantees. Signing Blackmon now would solidify the backend, improve their turnover potential, and give Lawrence and the offense more breathing room on the other side of the ball. That’s a win-win.</p><h2><b>The Bottom Line</b></h2><p>Every offseason move the Jaguars have made thus far—from hiring Liam Coen to trading up for Travis Hunter—signals that this team is ready to swing for upside. But as training camp nears, there’s one more bold step they should take to balance out their roster.</p><p>Julian Blackmon is available. He fits the Jaguars’ needs. They recently signed him to his rookie contract, and <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1936904984261439883" rel="noopener">he made history</a> doing so, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.</p><p>“Travis Hunter officially signed his four-year, $46.65 million fully guaranteed contract. His $30.57 million signing bonus, paid entirely upfront, sets a new record—making him the first non-quarterback not drafted first overall to receive his entire signing bonus upfront. The deal was negotiated by Adie von Gontard and Ray Haija of Young Money APAA Sports,” Schefter wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>With that deal, it shows that the Jaguars believe in what Hunter can do, and they know he will be an important part of what the team plans to accomplish. The jury is still out on how they plan to use him, as he can play on both sides of the ball.</p><p>There’s a good chance that Hunter will see most of his time at wide receiver, and he will be playing alongside Brian Thomas Jr., which gives Trevor Lawrence another option. He could be useful on defense as well, and his ball-hawk skills were some of the best coming out of the draft.</p><p>Jaguars general manager <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-gm-makes-bombshell-travis-hunter-claim">James Gladstone recently spoke highly of Hunter</a> and had nothing but good things to say about his skill set.</p><p>“He does not tire,” Gladstone said. “He’s got a spark, he’s got the energy, the capacity from a physical standpoint to be able to be able to do it is certainly there.”</p><p>It will be interesting to see the impact that Hunter makes on the team, and hopefully, they can improve from what they did last season. Jacksonville started at the top, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-jacksonville-fires-gm-trent-baalke-whiffing-top-coaching-candidates">parting ways with both Doug Pederson and GM Trent Baalke</a>. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/nfl-rumors-liam-coen-to-earn-12-million-year-jaguars-head-coach">Jaguars replaced them with Liam Coen</a> and GM James Gladstone, who together represent a bold new future for the team.</p><p>But that wasn’t even the team’s most aggressive move of the offseason.</p><p>Jacksonville went all in during the 2025 NFL Draft, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-jacksonville-drafts-travis-hunter-bombshell-browns-trade">trading up to second overall in to select superstar Travis Hunter</a>.</p><p>The Jaguars now have everything they need to compete in the AFC South for several years to come.</p><p>The team has already gotten a chance to look at Hunter, and the rest of their new players, during OTAs and minicamp. Those results have been promising so far, but it is too early to feel too comfortable.</p><p>Will Jacksonville hit the ground running in 2025? Or will they stumble during Liam Coen’s first year as head coach?</p><p>Below we will explore three Jaguars hot takes coming out of 2025 mandatory minicamp.</p><h2><b>Trevor Lawrence has the best statistical season of his career</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Trevor-Lawrence-at-Jacksonville-Jaguars-minicamp.jpg"><figcaption>Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>It is safe to say that Trevor Lawrence has not lived up to the hype coming into the NFL.</p><p>Don’t get me wrong, Lawrence is certainly a franchise quarterback in Jacksonville. And he would be on most teams in the NFL. He even has a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-trevor-lawrence-signs-275-million-contract-extension">massive $275 million contract</a> to prove it.</p><p>But his production does not match his generational pre-draft billing.</p><p>Lawrence’s best season came in 2022 when he logged 4,113 yards with 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions. That is some solid production, but it does not come close to his expectations when joining the Jaguars.</p><p>But all of that could change in 2025.</p><p>Lawrence arguably has his best supporting cast of his entire career. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-brian-thomas-jr-honor-trevor-lawrence-couldnt-match">Brian Thomas Jr.</a> and Travis Hunter look like a truly dangerous duo of receivers. The Jaguars also have a solid offensive line, a stacked stable of running backs, and a new offensive-minded head coach.</p><p>There may be some growing pains during Lawrence’s first season under head coach Liam Coen. That said, I am still confident that he will put up the best season of his career in 2025.</p><p>I see Lawrence surpassing 4,500 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and posting a career-best passer rating.</p><p>If that happens, the Jaguars will be in the hunt for the playoffs until the end of the regular season.</p><h2><b>Travis Hunter will play all 17 games, make several plays on both offense and defense</b></h2><p>Travis Hunter will arguably be the most exciting story in the NFL heading into the 2025 NFL season.</p><p>Hunter will be the first two-way player in the NFL over the past few decades. He is an incredible wide receiver and cornerback who also has the stamina to play both sides of the ball for an entire game.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-football/colorado-football-news-travis-hunter-warning-any-nfl-team-thinking-limiting-him-1-position">Hunter demanded during the pre-draft process</a> that he be allowed to continue this in the NFL. So far, the Jaguars seem more than happy to oblige.</p><p>Jacksonville has given Hunter reps on both offense and defense during their offseason program thus far. The team has not revealed its complete plan for Hunter yet, but <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-gm-makes-bombshell-travis-hunter-claim">they have marveled at his tireless work ethic.</a></p><p>At this point in the offseason, just one month away from training camp, it is hard to know for sure how much Hunter will be on the field.</p><p>I have a feeling that Hunter will play more offensive snaps than defensive, though he will be involved on both sides of the ball most weeks.</p><p>Hunter currently projects as the team’s WR2 and backup cornerback behind Jarrian Jones, Tyson Campbell, and Jourdan Lewis.</p><p>If Hunter does indeed play that role, I believe he can stay healthy for a full 17-game regular season.</p><p>I am also predicting that Hunter will post at least 10 combined receiving touchdowns and interceptions during his rookie campaign.</p><h2><b>Jacksonville’s pass defense will improve significantly during the 2025 NFL season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Olamide-Zaccheaus-Commanders.jpg"><figcaption>Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Jaguars had a shockingly bad defense during the 2024 season.</p><p>Jacksonville had the second-worst defense in the NFL when measured by yards allowed per game (389.9). They were also <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/team/_/view/defense/stat/passing/table/passing/sort/QBRating/dir/desc" rel="noopener">dead last in passing yards allowed per game</a> (257.4) and were in the bottom five in many other statistical categories.</p><p>But there are reasons for optimism heading into the 2025 season.</p><p>The Jaguars added a handful of talented players to their secondary, who should help improve their coverage unit. Jourdan Lewis and Eric Murray are the biggest additions and should both slot into the starting lineup.</p><p>We also highlighted Travis Hunter, who should moonlight as a defensive back in Jacksonville’s secondary as well.</p><p>It may not be an exciting prediction, but I believe the Jaguars’ defense will finish in the middle of the pack in 2025. It may not sound like much, but that would be a huge improvement over last season.</p><p>Jacksonville will get an early test on defense, facing Joe Burrow and the Bengals in Week 2. Without further ado, let’s take a look.</p><h2><b>Jaguars’ Travis Hunter’s Unique Madden 26 Ability Will Reduce His Wear &amp; Tear</b></h2><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>According to EA Sports, Jaguars’ rookie <b>Travis Hunter will have “exclusive’ benefits in Madden 26, including an ability that reduces the impact of Wear &amp; Tear on his body.</b> Because Hunter plans on playing both offense and defense, he would likely get injured often due to Wear &amp; Tear. However, this custom ability will seemingly reduce its effect on him.</p><p>EA Sports introduced the Wear &amp; Tear mechanic last year in College Football 25, which Hunter graced the cover of. Overall, it’s an injury system which notifies you of your player’s condition at any point during a game or season. For example, if you make your RB touch the ball 30+ times a game, you’ll likely see the effects of Wear &amp; Tear on his body.</p><p>Essentially, each hit they take puts damage on their body. The more damage they take, the more likely they receive a bad injury. Furthermore, throughout the game, it reduces player stats, making them less effective on the field. Therefore, Wear &amp; Tear encourages players to substitute players and spread the ball around to keep players safe.</p><p>There’s a lot of ways to maintain Wear &amp; Tear, but for a two-way player like Hunter, it would be very difficult to let them rest. Since Hunter plans on playing both WR and DB, he’ll be on the field quite a bit. And depending on how you use him in Madden, could cause him an injury early on. Hunter has been <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-football/colorado-football-news-travis-hunter-warning-any-nfl-team-thinking-limiting-him-1-position">adamant that he will play both offensive and defensive snaps</a> for the Jaguars this fall. Naturally, he’ll need incredible resilience to play that many snaps every single week.</p><p>Gladstone would not commit to a certain snap count per game when asked. They are under new leadership with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-liam-coen-buccaneers-face-jacksonville-contract-agreement">Liam Coen as their head coach</a>, and the AFC South division is up for grabs. Along with that, the team did not lose any major players in the offseason. Add in their talented draft class, and the Jaguars should be a pretty good team this year.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-trevor-lawrence-speaks-up-on-change-since-liam-coens-takeover">Coen is already making an impact on the offense</a>, and he has a specific plan of attack. There are some players that may not fit in, and there are other players that may get a little bit more playing time. Additionally, the defense is going to be re-worked, as well.</p><p>With their draft class in mind, and some free agent additions, Jacksonville has some decisions to make regarding their 53-man roster. Not everyone can make the team heading into week one, and there are going to be a few surprise cuts as training camp and the preseason approach.</p><p>Below we will be looking at two players that are danger of being cut after minicamp.</p><h2><b>WR Trenton Irwin could be the first player cut</b></h2><p>Trenton Irwin is a name not a lot of people know. He spent the first six seasons of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, but did not get a whole bunch of playing time.</p><p>In 41 total games played, Trenton Irwin made just nine starts. In his career, he has collected 46 receptions on 72 targets, 601 yards, and five touchdowns. He spent some time as the punt returner in Cincinnati, as well. However, none of his returns were ran back for a touchdown.</p><p>His veteran presence in the wide receiver room, and ability to play on the special teams is an asset. Teams are always going to need players to help out the young guys, and someone they can trust to make good decisions when returning punts or kicks. On paper, Irwin is that guy.</p><p>The reason the 29-year-old could lose his spot on the team is because the Jaguars are very talented at wide receiver. Add in his age, and Irwin seems to be the odd man out.</p><p>Brian Thomas Jr was one of the best rookie wide receivers during the 2024 season. Along with BTJ, Jacksonville just brought in Dyami Brown, and he will be the team’s third-best receiver. The player with the most eyes on him is Travis Hunter. Jacksonville traded up to grab Hunter, and he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-travis-hunter-future-minicamp">showcased how good he truly is during OTAs</a>.</p><p>With those three receivers in the room, it is going to be tough for Irwin to make the team. Now, more than three receivers are needed on a roster, but with cute being inevitable, it would not be surprising to see Irwin as one of them.</p><h2><b>Is Travis Etienne’s time in Jacksonville done?</b></h2><p>Travis Etienne was the team’s first round draft pick in the 2021 draft. He is heading into his fourth season with the Jaguars, but he might not make it to the regular season.</p><p>Last year, Etienne had a career-worst season. After rushing for over 1,000 in each of his first two years in the NFL, the Clemson product took a massive step backwards in 2024. He rushed for just 558 yards, and 3.7 yards per attempts. He scored just two total touchdowns on the year, and Tank Bigsby became the go-to running back.</p><p>To make matters worse for Etienne, the Liam Coen selected two running backs in his first ever draft as a head coach. Bhayshul Tuten was taken in the fourth round, and LeQuit Allen was drafted in the seventh.</p><p>Tuten was the fastest running back in the draft combine as he ran a 4.32 40-yard dash. His career at Virginia Tech saw him finish with 2,963 all-purpose yards in his final two seasons of college. The running back has a high upside and his speed is going to make him a weapon in Coen’s offense.</p><p>Allen is more of a receiving back, which is important in the NFL. The Jaguars will not need someone to rush the ball as Bigsby and Tuten have that covered. However, when it is time for a running back to run some routes and be an option, Allen will be that guy.</p><p>The coaching staff does not like Etienne a whole lot, as well. Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2025/story/_/id/45007585/key-intel-all-32-teams-2025-nfl-draft-depth-charts-buzz-team-needs-next" rel="noopener">new coaching staff is not super high on Etienne</a>. That was proven by the team drafting two players at that position.</p><p>Now, Etienne may not be cut or released. There is more potential for a breakout because K’Lavon Chaisson is gone. Therefore, there will be snaps to earn behind Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker. There could be a situation where Abdullah works as a situational pass rusher.</p><p>If there is anyone to compare Abdullah to, potentially, it’s Haason Reddick in his early days. Despite not getting much of a chance in his first two seasons, Year 3 could be the time when he finally makes his mark. If Abdullah can take the next step, he can improve a linebacker unit that has dealt with injuries and inconsistency.</p><h2><b>Antonio Johnson is one of the Jaguars’ sleepers who can break through</b></h2><p>The Jaguars’ secondary has struggled over the past few seasons. While there will be some transition, there will also be opportunities for top-pick Hunter. Likewise, Antonio Johnson has a chance to make an impact, especially if he has a strong training camp and demonstrates to his coaches what he can do.</p><p>Johnson was a 2023 fifth-round draft pick who showed some signs in late 2023 that he could be a decent player at this time. Overall, he brings physicality and is also very versatile.</p><p>Johnson has also showcased his ability to play either safety or nickel, and the Jags may utilize him in creative ways. Johnson started eight games for the Jaguars and has the potential to start more.</p><p>Furthermore, he recorded 73 total tackles and successfully defended two passes in 2024. Johnson can do much more, and will have the chance to do so.</p><p>The competition in the secondary is wide open, and he could emerge as a starter or even a rotational defensive back. If Johnson can continue to work hard and make good plays, he can be a reliable option in the secondary. Two-way superstar Travis Hunter was selected with the No. 1 overall pick, and this franchise still has plenty of talented players on the roster. In addition, Coen is widely renowned for his ability to develop quarterbacks, giving many hope that Lawrence is due for a bounce-back season. However, it’s likely that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/why-travis-hunter-wont-meet-expectations-with-jaguars-after-standout-college-career" rel="noopener">Hunter won’t live up to the hype</a> after all. </p><p>Nevertheless, he closed out the Jaguars mini-camp brimming with confidence. The versatile player didn’t play both offense and defense in the same practice until the last day of practice. </p><p>Jaguars coach Liam Coen hinted that <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/travis-hunter-works-on-offense-and-defense-in-same-practice-for-first-time" rel="noopener">there is more to come</a> from Hunter, per Josh Alper of NBC’s Pro Football Talk. </p><p>“Yeah, I think so,” Coen said. “That’s definitely what we have to build towards for training camp and then, obviously, in season. Knowing that, during practice, he’s gonna have to do both. He wants to do it. It’s not as if it’s something where he can’t handle. He wants to do that more often. He wants more, and that’s a good thing. However, we must also protect him from himself at times and ensure we emerge from this phase healthy. He has had a passion for sports his entire life, and enjoys covering and writing about all sports.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Jacksonville Jaguars</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Jacksonville Jaguars made their big swing this offseason at the NFL Draft, when they traded multiple first-round picks to move <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/nfl-rumors-jaguars-browns-blockbuster-trade-done-weeks-before-draft">up to No. 2 overall in a swap with the Cleveland Browns</a>. Travis Hunter, the former Colorado superstar and Heisman Trophy winner, was the selection for the Jaguars, leading to all kinds of questions and curiosity about what role he would play for them next season.</p><p>Of course, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jaguars-news-liam-coens-first-impressions-of-travis-hunter-on-defense">Hunter can play both wide receiver and cornerback</a>, and he did both at an elite level last season for Deion Sanders and the Buffs. He won the Biletnikoff Award last season as the best wide receiver in college football, and he was arguably snubbed for the Jim Thorpe Award as the best defensive back as well.</p><p>On Wednesday, former NFL player and current ESPN NFL analyst Ryan Clark <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DKxz8D6yueD/?img_index=1" rel="noopener">gave his take</a> on where Hunter should play to start his career.</p><p>“I think he has All Pro written all over him,” Clark said on NFL Live. “I believe the sky is the limit for Travis Hunter, but if you want to get immediate impact out of this young player, you let him play defense and you let him go lock folks up.”</p><p>Hunter is certainly more than capable of doing just that as a cornerback. He is a natural zone corner, with the spatial awareness and the unteachable instincts to make incredible plays on the ball. Naturally, as a part-time receiver, Hunter has incredible ball skills and can come up with an interception whenever the ball is thrown his way.</p><p>Hunter also grew exponentially as a man coverage cornerback last season under new defensive coordinator Robert Livingston at Colorado. The former Bengals assistant played a ton of Cover 1 with the Buffs, consistently leaving Hunter alone on an island on the outside.</p><p>Hunter is also an incredibly explosive offensive player, which should allow him to help out Trevor Lawrence and company at times.</p><p>The two-way phenom has gotten reps on both sides of the ball during minicamp this summer, so it is certainly feasible that he could be asked to play both ways at some points of the season. While playing nearly every snap like he did at Colorado is a big ask, Hunter should be able to impact the game in some capacity at both wide receiver and cornerback this fall in Jacksonville.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence turned heads on Tuesday after arriving in a sleeve on his right arm. After some speculation swirled online about a potential injury, we finally have an explanation as to why Lawrence is wearing a sleeve at Tuesday’s practice.</p><p>Head coach Liam Coen claims that Trevor Lawrence is wearing a sleeve on his throwing arm <a href="https://x.com/AndrewSiciliano/status/1932455849135362165" rel="noopener">due to some soreness</a>, according to NFL insider Andrew Siciliano. After throwing a ton in the previous week, the 25-year-old quarterback is just maintaining the soreness in his arm. It doesn’t appear to be anything of concern.</p><p>“Liam Coen says Trevor Lawrence wore a sleeve on his right arm today because of ‘a little bit of general soreness’ from throwing a lot last week. ‘Maintenance.'”</p><p>Some rumors spread online that Lawrence was originally wearing a sling on his right arm, and not a sleeve. Those rumors are unequivocally false. Jaguars fans browsing on X, formerly known as Twitter, got a scare on Tuesday. But they can feel rest assured that Trevor Lawrence was wearing a sleeve to help with the soreness in his arm. Nothing more.</p><p>That’s good news for the Jagurs, as the organization hopes to make drastic steps forward after finishing last season with a 4-13 record. After bringing in Travis Hunter by picking him with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, Jacksonville hopes to have a high-powered offense <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-brian-thomas-jr-honor-trevor-lawrence-couldnt-match">for Trevor Lawrence to work with</a>.</p><p>Lawrence himself aims to bounce back from a rough 2024-25 campaign, where he only played in 10 games for the Jaguars. He finished last season with career lows, recording 2,045 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while owning a 60.6% completion percentage.</p><p>He was forced to miss seven total games after sustaining a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder in the Jaguars’ 28-23 Week 9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Lawrence also suffered a concussion in the 23-20 Week 13 loss to the Houston Texans after taking a hard shot from linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair. But for now, Trevor Lawrence is fine and is on track to start in Week 1 when the Jaguars face off against the Carolina Panthers in the season opener.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
