While the report said that a trade was unlikely, Jacksonville was not completely shutting the door on a Thomas Jr trade.</p><p>Jaguars head coach Liam Coen<a href="https://x.com/Schultz_Report/status/1982838258133594454" rel="noopener"> quickly shut down these rumors.</a> Speaking to reporters during their bye week, Coen firmly said that “We have no plans on moving Brian Thomas Jr at all,” according to Jordan Schultz. The coach also said that the bye week was the perfect time for Thomas Jr to reset and hopefully lock in for the next few weeks.</p><p>Thomas Jr had an electric rookie season for the Jaguars, finishing with over 1,200 yards last season. The hope for the Jaguars was that the sophomore would continue his great performance in Year 2. While they drafted Travis Hunter with the second overall pick, Jacksonville was looking at Thomas Jr to evolve into a true WR1 threat.</p><p>Instead, Thomas Jr’s biggest flaws were amplified this season. Even in his breakout rookie year, the Jaguars wide receiver had a few questionable drops, finishing with seven drops on the year. Through seven games this season, Thomas Jr has already had more drops with nine, for an abysmal 16.4% drop rate. His struggles catching the ball in the middle of the field have severely neutered his ability to make a play.</p><p>Thomas Jr’s struggles this season are a key reason why the Jaguars have been struggling to gain any sort of consistency this season on offense. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/4-1-jaguars-proved-theyre-contender-material-with-late-comeback-to-beat-chiefs">They scored a big win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5,</a> but have since lost their next two games to the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams. One of the biggest reasons for the confusion around the Jaguars is their shaky offensive production.</p><p>One of the biggest reasons behind the Jaguars’ inconsistency on offense is Brian Thomas Jr’s regression. After an excellent final stretch of games in 2024, many expected the second-year wideout to take a big leap this season. However, Thomas has struggled in spurts this season and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/jacksonville-jaguars/jaguars-news-brian-thomas-jr-practices-wrist-injury-nightmare-game">has dealt with injuries as well</a>. He’s had problems catching the ball, sporting one of the worst drop rates in the league.</p><p>Thomas Jr is still in his second year, so there’s room to believe that the Jaguars wide receiver will still improve over the course of his career. Still, that has apparently not stopped Jacksonville from <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6747218/2025/10/25/nfl-trade-rumors-news-aj-brown-jerry-jones-targets/" rel="noopener">exploring its options at the upcoming trade deadline</a>. Dianna Russini said in her report for The Athletic that “The Jaguars are listening on calls for WR Brian Thomas Jr., even if a move feels highly unlikely.”</p><p>Drafted in the first round by the Jaguars in 2024, Brian Thomas Jr was one of the biggest standouts last season for the team. He had 1,282 receiving yards last season and ten touchdowns, planting himself firmly in Offensive Rookie of the Year talks last season. Thomas Jr was hyped up to be one of the best young wide receivers in the league. A breakout 2025 campaign seemed all but guaranteed.</p><p>However, Thomas Jr has not played up to his potential this season. He currently has the most drops in the NFL (nine drops according to Pro Football Reference) and has the second-highest drop rate in the league at 16.4%. The Texans are 0-2 with losses against the Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.</p><p>The Texans will battle for their first win of the season, while the Jags aim to start 2-1 and put themselves in a great position to compete with the Indianapolis Colts for the division. Thomas Jr. caught four passes for 49 yards against the Bengals last week, which was an improvement over his one catch for 11 yards in the win over the Panthers. After a stellar rookie season, it can be difficult to repeat as defenses have film on you and make you more of a priority in their game plan. It is too early in the season to panic, and Thomas Jr. telling the media he is good to go with a nagging wrist injury is a good sign.
