The franchise has locked up its quarterback for the foreseeable future, and now the pressure is on. After making the Super Bowl two seasons ago, San Francisco went through a very trying 2024 campaign. But the energy during mandatory minicamp and OTAs has been positive so far.</p><p>In an interview with Pat McAfee, Kittle <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9YNzW6dPjs&amp;t=453s" rel="noopener">joked about</a> his starting quarterback’s $265 million contract and his plans for Purdy this fall.</p><p>“He did get paid half a country, good for him. He’s buying everything from here on out. Hopefully, he’s paying for the Halloween party this year, and it’s not me and Juice anymore.”</p><h2><b>The 49ers need to capitalize on their, on paper, very forgiving schedule</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Brock-Purdy.jpg"><figcaption>D. Ross Cameron-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Despite being in a competitive NFC West, San Francisco has what is considered the easiest schedule in the NFL. Head coach Kyle Shanahan’s team only has four games against teams that made the postseason last year. Two of those clashes will come against the Los Angeles Rams, which won the 49ers division in 2024. Even with Los Angeles again looking formidable, San Francisco has a huge opportunity to grab its third NFC West title in four years. To do so, the team’s star quarterback will need to take another step up in his development.</p><p>Purdy has been the ultimate overachiever throughout his career. After being the last pick in the 2021 draft, the Iowa State standout was not expected to start at this level until injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo gave him the opportunity of a lifetime. Purdy seized the moment, leading the 49ers to the NFC Championship game. The Queens Creek, Arizona native followed up that campaign with a Pro Bowl season that saw him lead the NFL in passer rating. The 49ers made it to Super Bowl LVIII, where they lost in a classic to the Kansas City Chiefs.</p><p>Unfortunately, this group could not continue that momentum into 2024. The franchise ultimately suffered several injuries to its roster, which resulted in Purdy’s stats dropping. To be fair to Purdy, he was also dealing with a nerve issue in his right elbow that definitely affected his production. But even with wideouts like Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk no longer on the roster, the onus will be on the 49ers’ quarterback to bounce back and elevate the offense. The deal will keep Purdy in San Francisco through the 2030 season. And 49ers offensive lineman Trent Williams has <a href="https://x.com/VicTafur/status/1932520230351482939" rel="noopener">high hopes</a> for the quarterback’s tenure with the team.</p><p>“He is going to win a lot of games and this is only the tip of the iceberg,” Williams said, via The Athletic’s Vic Tafur. “He’s the epitome of the Cinderella story. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy,” the 14-year veteran added.</p><h2><b>Can Brock Purdy get the 49ers back to the playoffs in 2025?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Williams-and-Purdy.jpg"><figcaption>Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Purdy exceeded the 49ers’ expectations after the team took him with the last pick in the 2022 draft. He quickly won the starting quarterback job in San Francisco and put together an excellent sophomore season, being named to the Pro Bowl and throwing for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He led the 49ers to the Super Bowl that year, ultimately losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime.</p><p>However, Purdy had a bit of a down year in 2024, appearing in 15 games and throwing for 3,864 yards with 20 touchdowns and 12 picks. San Francisco finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020.</p><p>The downturn factored into his extension talks as the 49ers became wary of over committing to the young QB. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-rumors-brock-purdy-wanted-65-million-annually">Purdy was originally asking for $65 million a year</a>, which would have meant a massive $325 million deal. Ultimately he settled for $53 million annually – and $182.55 million guaranteed. Now he’ll attempt to lead a stripped down version of the team after the 49ers lost a number of key players in free agency.</p><p>Fortunately for Purdy – and 49ers fans – Trent Williams is still with the team. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-trent-williams-makes-bold-retirement-declaration">Williams isn’t thinking about retiring</a> despite entering his age-37 season. In fact, he recently said he could play until he’s 41. Williams is currently signed through 2026 after he agreed to a three-year, $82.66 million extension prior to the 2024 season.</p><p>Williams was selected fourth overall in the 2010 draft by Washington. According to <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/49ers/news/will-brock-purdy-miss-former-49ers-quarterbacks-coach-brian-griese" rel="noopener">insider Grant Cohn</a>, that same connection might be missing between the San Francisco 49ers duo of Brock Purdy and Brandon Aiyuk.</p><p>Cohn pointed out that the two seemed much closer a few years ago. Aiyuk even campaigned for Purdy’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-brandon-aiyuk-super-bowl-58-mvp">MVP run in 2023</a>. But things changed. In Super Bowl LVIII, Purdy only threw to Aiyuk <a href="https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/brandon-aiyuk-career-super-bowl-stats" rel="noopener">six times</a>. The latter caught three of those passes for 49 yards, a modest stat line for their biggest stage, but since then, their dynamic has felt different.</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>During the offseason, Aiyuk <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-rumors-insider-brandon-aiyuk-trade-prediction-trigger-date">requested a trade</a> and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXXkwrESVWM" rel="noopener">said on Ryan Clark’s podcast</a> that he would be open to playing with Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. When that happened, Purdy did not go public with any call to keep Aiyuk, nor did he urge the 49ers to lock him in. Instead, he said he trusted the front office.</p><p>That answer felt safe, but it stood out compared to quarterbacks like Joe Burrow, who openly supported Ja’Marr Chase during his own extension talks.</p><p>Then came the contract drama. Purdy said he wanted to sign early to avoid distractions, while Aiyuk waited until the last minute. That difference in approach only added to the questions.</p><p>There were more subtle signs. When Aiyuk got married this offseason, several teammates showed up, but Purdy <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmOCdhpQxNY" rel="noopener">wasn’t one of them</a>. When he signed his own deal, social media lit up with teammate reactions, but Aiyuk stayed quiet. Then, weeks later, the 27-year-old’s personal receiver coach, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-brandon-aiyuk-personal-coach-questions-brock-purdy-overpay">said on television</a> that Purdy was overpaid.</p><p>It was a jab that many believe didn’t come out of nowhere.</p><p>None of this confirms a rift, as both players remain professional and neither has said anything publicly against the other. But as Cohn noted, something feels off. The chemistry looks shaky, the timing of things doesn’t line up, and it feels like they are moving in different directions.</p><p>The 49ers are hoping to make another deep playoff run. For that to happen, the Purdy-Aiyuk connection needs to be strong again. Right now, they seem like teammates, nothing more. With the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-kyle-shanahan-sends-warning-to-san-francisco-after-2024-failure"> 49ers looking to improve after the failures</a> of last season, Warner spoke about the team and their willingness to lock up the stars that helped the original success of the unit.</p><p>Warner has been known to be the anchor of San Francisco’s defense and one of the best linebackers in the NFL, so when the team signed him to a three-year deal, it was a no-brainer decision. However, there had been a long negotiation process with Purdy while also keeping Kittle with his original squad, <a href="https://www.49ers.com/news/fred-warner-seamless-contract-extension-rookies-otas-nick-martin" rel="noopener">which garnered a positive response</a> from Warner, according to the team’s website.</p><p>“I’m so grateful to everyone involved, including the whole York family, John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan,” Warner said. “It was pretty seamless, and I’m happy for George Kittle and Brock Purdy to get their stuff done, too.”</p><p>San Francisco first signed Kittle to a four-year, $76.4 million deal, which then led to the Warner and Purdy signings. Warner would also say how many dreams have been made throughout his time with the group, with the latest contract being another one fulfilled.</p><p>“It honestly does mean the world,” Warner said. “When I got drafted here in 2018, it was truly a dream come true. It was the exact spot I wanted to be at because I knew they had a vision for me as a younger player who had never even played stack, off-the-ball linebacker. I was so raw at the time. Being able to fulfill my dream of being an NFL player, of being a 49er, I truly feel that same exact way. One player that Warner mentioned was third-round pick Nick Martin, a linebacker out of Oklahoma State, saying he has stood out.</p><p>“I’ve loved everything that Nick has been about since he arrived,” Warner said. “I heard the whole story about he said he had my jersey before coming onto the team. In some of those situations, guys don’t want to seem like they’re like ‘too cool’ or I don’t know what it is… But, he’s come in and asked me every single question know to man.”</p><p>“I’ve seen the athletic ability flash on the field in the way he closes,” Warner continued. “He closes space really quickly. He already has the great mindset of want to learn. I’m really happy with where he’s at.”</p><p>At any rate, Warner looks to lead a defense that is hungry to get back on track, which the feeling is the same feeling with the overall team as the 49ers are coming off a relatively disappointing 6-11 record, putting them last in the NFC West. After the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-kyle-shanahan-sends-warning-to-san-francisco-after-2024-failure"> 49ers’ failures last season</a>, the team will need to lean on Purdy to boost the offense, as head coach Kyle Shanahan has a message for his quarterback.</p><p>Fans had been wondering when both sides would agree so they could focus on the season ahead rather than the intricacies of a contract extension. Shanahan would say to the media that he wants Purdy to do what he has been doing since emerging as a productive player, <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/49ers-arent-looking-for-brock-purdy-to-do-something-extra-because-of-his-contract" rel="noopener">which is being the team’s leader</a>, according to NBC Sports.</p><p>“I want him to be the leader he’s always been,” Shanahan said. “There’s no worse thing to do than ask people to do something extra just because they’re a contract. You know, that’s when you start making stuff up. To help his development, he studied Brock Purdy, Klint Kubiak’s former pupil, his new offensive coordinator with the Seattle Seahawks.</p><p>Growing up in Texas, Milroe looked up to Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Brady, and Lamar Jackson. However, he has been studying Purdy to help his NFL transition smoothly.</p><p>Kubiak’s position as the former passing game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers did wonders for Purdy’s development in San Francisco. Purdy has now played in a Super Bowl and recently signed a new five-year, $265 million contract extension.</p><p>Milroe sees Purdy’s success and wants to emulate it. He has developed well as he continues to learn Kubiak’s system. Milroe <a href="https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/rookie-seahawks-qb-jalen-milroe-channeling-brock-purdy">talked in depth about this with FOX Sports</a>.</p><p>“What’s unique about Brock is he played in the same system I’m in right now,” Milroe said. “So it’s been great to see the tape, see some of our reads and play calls, and watch him play.</p><p>“He understands his feet are tied into the read and pocket integrity. He’s at his best and has been most efficient when he plays on time. That’s what I’ve seen as I’ve studied his game.”</p><h2><b>Jalen Milroe only third QB drafted by Seahawks’ John Schneider</b></h2><p>The Seahawks <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/seahawks-news-pick-jalen-milroe-not-shedeur-sanders-92">selected him in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft</a>, and he is only the third quarterback that Seahawks GM John Schneider has taken in his 16-year career in Seattle. Russell Wilson and Alex McGough were the only others he had drafted before.</p><p>Schneider is banking on Milroe’s elite athleticism while continuing to develop even more as a passer in the NFL.</p><p>“He’s in a unique category with this group of quarterbacks because he’s like that explosive athlete, with the speed,” Schneider said after the draft. “I saw him play live at Wisconsin. It’s like, great player, but a poor decision, and he just scored from 60 yards or something.</p><p>“He just takes off, and he’s gone. This is a natural runner with the ball, and that puts so much pressure on defenses.”</p><p>If Milroe can come close to how much Purdy has developed in the NFL, he is in for a great career, barring injuries. He’ll now earn more than $25 million annually while throwing to Brandon Aiyuk and company.</p><p>But did the 49ers “overpay” for Purdy? Aiyuk’s personal coach questioned the deal the 49ers handed the QB.</p><p>T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who privately trains Aiyuk, <a href="https://x.com/SpeakOnFS1/status/1927162146095284613" rel="noopener">sounded off on the widely debated deal</a> while on FS1’s “Speak.” The former NFL wide receiver didn’t mince words on his true feelings for Purdy’s deal.</p><p>“I believe they did overpay for Brock Purdy,” Houshmandzadeh said.</p><p>How much would the past Cincinnati Bengals star give the NFC champion QB if he were general manager?</p><p>“I would have given Brock Purdy $47 million a year. That would have been the most I’m giving him,” he said. “We needed you last year. You went 1-6 against playoff teams. Does that make the 2023 Pro Bowl QB overrated by his standards?</p><p>“I think Purdy is a hell of a quarterback, but I’m not giving you money when you’ve shown me that when we need you to take over, you can’t take over,” Houshmandzadeh stated.</p><p>Again, the 47-year-old hasn’t seen Purdy carry the 49ers on his back. Especially compared to a Super Bowl winner he brought up.</p><p>“When we need you to carry us, you can’t carry us. But at one point, they said Jalen Hurts is overpaid,” Houshmandzadeh said. “Now, Jalen Hurts is underpaid because he won a Super Bowl with the Eagles.”</p><p>“Housh” feels the jury is still out on Purdy even after the 49ers made him wealthier.</p><p>“If Purdy takes the 49ers to the Super Bowl and they win it, then his contract is well worth it. Until he does that, he’s overpaid,” he said.</p><p>Purdy watched his numbers dip last season. He settled for 20 touchdowns with 12 interceptions but went 6-9 as a starter. Despite that dip in production, he remains one of the most technically sound route-runners in the league and <a href="https://ninerswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/niners/2025/05/25/49ers-predicted-to-sign-amari-cooper/83857509007/" rel="noopener">could offer a much-needed boost</a> to a 49ers receiving corps facing serious question marks.</p><p>Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton recently made the case for why the Niners should bring Cooper aboard, especially with the 2025 season looming and uncertainty clouding the WR room. “Now, they must add another proven playmaker at receiver to help support [Purdy],” Moton wrote, noting Brandon Aiyuk’s uncertain recovery from a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus and Demarcus Robinson’s looming suspension due to a November DUI arrest.</p><h2><b>Will the 49ers get Brock Purdy the WR help he needs?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Brock-Purdy_ce9b27.jpg"><figcaption>Cary Edmondson-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Aiyuk may not return to full form until 2026. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/49ers-news-san-francisco-blockbuster-deebo-samuel-trade-commanders">Deebo Samuel, once a core piece, is now a Washington Commander.</a> That leaves Jauan Jennings—more of a possession receiver—and rookie Ricky Pearsall, who’s flashed but remains largely unproven. While Demarcus Robinson was expected to play a role, his availability is in doubt. It’s clear that Brock Purdy, fresh off signing a $265 million extension, needs more firepower to throw to if the 49ers want to return to the Super Bowl.</p><p>Cooper, 30, may not be in his prime anymore, but he still brings valuable traits to the table. He’s an elite route-runner who consistently creates separation—something only Aiyuk has done consistently for the Niners in recent years. Even during a difficult 2024, Cooper’s catch rate improved significantly after being traded to Buffalo, jumping from 45.3% to 62.5%, per Bleacher Report.</p><p>With San Francisco currently owning the third-most effective cap space in the NFL, per OverTheCap.com, the team has the financial flexibility to make a low-risk move for a veteran like Cooper. A one-year deal would offer the team a short-term solution with minimal downside, especially if he’s used as a complement to Jennings and as an insurance policy for Aiyuk.</p><p>Cooper’s experience and savvy could also be invaluable to a young receiving group, and he wouldn’t be asked to carry the load, which could help him stay healthier and more effective. With Christian McCaffrey getting older and more of the offensive burden falling on Purdy, bolstering the receiving corps makes even more sense.</p><p>Cooper may not be a long-term solution, but he could be exactly what the 49ers need in the short term. It was a controversial deal for a quarterback who has made multiple deep playoff runs with San Francisco but also has shown an inability to produce when he’s not surrounded with multiple Pro Bowlers.</p><p>Recently, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on how Purdy’s initial asking price was <a href="https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/191277-schefter-brock-annually-showed-interest/" rel="noopener">actually much higher</a> before the two sides came to terms on the deal.</p><p>“Yes, that was his initial asking price, 65,” Schefter said, per <i>UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio, </i>via David Bonilla of 49ers Web Zone. “But you know what? Everybody’s initial asking price should be high. That’s how it should be, and his was. I don’t know that he thought he was going to get that, but you might as well start high. Nothing abnormal or unusual about that at all.”</p><p>Schefter also put into perspective just how much Purdy will be making compared to earlier in his career.</p><p>“And they came in where they did, where now, his total earnings in his first three seasons, he earned a combined $2.6 million,” said Schefter. “Now, he will make $2.9 million per week. In January, Purdy said that he would like his contract to be finalized by the time offseason workouts came around, but that did not end up coming true.</p><p>That could have caused concern for some people, as they thought he might have <a href="https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/191362-considered-skipping-offseason-remains-focused/" rel="noopener">decided to holdout</a> for a contract. Purdy didn’t do that, and he said recently that it was never an option for him to not show up to the workouts.</p><p>“I think, for me, being here and getting better at football, I don’t think that [missing time] was ever going to be a question for me,” Purdy said via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “I wanted to be here, and continue to build off of what we’ve done the last couple of years, and not let the negotiations and the money get in the way of that.</p><p>“I had faith that that was going to get done when it needed to, and obviously, I wouldn’t have liked that to go right up until the season.”</p><p>Purdy is already trying to start off on a good note, and he wanted to be with the team regardless of whether he had a contract or not.</p><h2><b>Brock Purdy is ready to get to work for 49ers</b></h2><p>Throughout the past few years, the 49ers have extended their key players before Week 1 of the season, and Purdy knows the anxiety that something like that bring.</p><p>“That would have probably been a little bit more stressful and whatnot,” Purdy said. “But coming here early in the offseason program, and getting around the guys, and getting on the field, and throwing, getting the timing down, getting to know guys, that is some crucial stuff for how the season turns out to be.</p><p>“So, I knew from the get-go, whether the contract was done or not, that I was going to be here.”</p><p>Purdy earned his contract after having success with the 49ers over the past few years, while helping them reach the Super Bowl. There’s no surprise that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/49ers-news-brock-purdy-plans-buy-265-million-contract-extension">Purdy was rewarded with such a huge contract</a>, and now he must go out and prove that he was worth every penny. San Francisco has extended some of its most important players this offseason, including a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-george-kittles-record-breaking-76-4-million-contract-announced-bussin-with-the-boys">$76.4 million contract for George Kittle</a>. He explained one big change he’s seen in his quarterback.</p><p>49ers tight end George Kittle <a href="https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/191346-whats-brock-george-kittle-message/" rel="noopener">spoke about the changes he’s seen</a> in Brock Purdy during a recent interview.</p><p>“One thing I’ve already seen from Brock this offseason, just being back around for all of [the offseason program] and stuff, is just his voice is heard significantly more in the building, which I love, whether he’s breaking down the team, talking in the locker room,” Kittle said per David Bonilla of 49erswebszone.com. “He’s always kind, he’s always nice to everybody, but he’s just more vocal to everybody in team settings, which is huge.”</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-brock-purdys-no-trade-detail-265-million-contract-extension">49ers gave Brock Purdy a $265 million contract extension</a> earlier in May. That is a huge raise for the former Mr. Irrelevant.</p><p>Kittle also noted that more players seem to take notice when Purdy is talking.</p><p>“And people, when they hear the quarterback talk, your head kind of snaps,” Kittle continued. “That’s what you listen for because he’s the face, the leader of the team. And so, when you have a guy like that, who’s continually growing … it’s just awesome to see a young guy keep his feet in the ground, and then want to work hard, and want to make all the guys around him really good.”</p><p>Perhaps the 49ers can have a rebound season in 2025 after only winning six games in 2024.</p><h2><b>George Kittle believes Brock Purdy extension, other additions will be good for 49ers</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/San-Francisco-49ers-quarterback-Brock-Purdy.jpg"><figcaption>Sergio Estrada-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Kittle believes that continuity at the quarterback position is important for any football team.</p><p>As a result, it should be no surprise that he is a fan of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-shannon-sharpe-credits-brock-purdy-saving-kyle-shanahan-john-lynch-jobs">what Purdy’s extension could mean for the 49ers</a>.</p><p>“I think, just the more that Brock is in this system, and Coach [Kyle] Shanahan can tailor the things that Brock likes,” Kittle added, “and kind of shape our offense in that way, it’s a lot easier to do that when you have a steady hand at quarterback, the guy who’s going to be here for a while, so you can build the whole thing around him and make it easy on him, which then, in turn, makes it easy on me, which I like.”</p><p>The 49ers have not had continuity at other positions on the roster. The deal is worth $256 million and includes $181 million in guaranteed money. The biggest kicker in the contract is not even dollar-based: The 49ers gave Brock Purdy a no-trade clause. He joins seven other quarterbacks who have a no-trade clause in the NFL.</p><p>During the press conference announcing the signing of his new contract, Purdy was asked <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/brock-purdy-no-trade-clause-wasnt-a-dealbreaker">whether it was essential to include a no-trade clause</a>.</p><p>“I think it’s imminent, yes, but also that’s what my agent and I had discussed with what other quarterbacks have around the league and stuff in their contract,” Purdy said. “But, for me, was it going to be a determining factor in signing it? No. We were very grateful that we had it in there, but at the end of the day, like I said, everything else that the contract entails, we’re very excited about, so we’re grateful how it turned out.”</p><p>No-trust clauses give the player more control in contract negotiations. Because quarterbacks are crucial in the modern-day NFL, they are usually reserved only for quarterbacks. It gets fuzzy on whether starting-caliber quarterbacks need them. The reason is that no one would inherit the contract if a starting quarterback had no desire to be there.</p><p>Brock Purdy might be the best story in the NFL today. He <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/49ers-news-brock-purdy-explains-how-mr-irrelevant-label-helps-him-play-more-freely">was drafted as Mr. Irrelevant in 2022</a> and has outperformed where he was taken, becoming one of the 10 best quarterbacks in the NFL today. Many of his critics say that he is only performing this well due to the supporting cast around him and the system that head coach Kyle Shanahan employs. However, he still has to execute that plan, and he has succeeded in that regard, highlighted by taking the 49ers to the Super Bowl two seasons ago.</p><p>Starting quarterbacks set the tone for every NFL franchise. They need to be all-in and the face of the franchise. However, Colin Cowherd said the 49ers overpaid quarterback Brock Purdy and that will hurt the team in the long run.</p><p>Unfortunately for the 49ers, the deal will put them <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=69&amp;v=p9-Lls18r3s&amp;feature=youtu.be" rel="noopener">in the tough spot</a> other teams face, according to The Herd with Colin Cowherd.</p><p>“I think Brock Purdy tends to be closer in talent to a Baker Mayfield in a year than a Josh Allen, $55 million a year,” Cowherd said. “I’m not saying Brock is the only quarterback I think is overpaid. It does appear that Trevor Lawrence is overpaid; I think Dak Prescott and Tua (Tagovailoa). (And) I didn’t like those contracts. I was right on both.”</p><h2><b>Will 49ers regret the deal with QB Brock Purdy?</b></h2><p>Cowherd said the Cowboys and Dolphins have been struggling since sending too much money toward one position.</p><p>“We all know the more you pay Tua and Dak, the less they have around them,” Cowherd said. “Tua’s O-line would be a lot better if he made $35 million a year, and Dak would have more weapons if he made $35 – $40 million a year.”</p><p>Also, the 49ers may not have given Purdy enough protection. He’s not the most mobile quarterback, and that could show up in key games throughout the years.</p><p>“So I’ve said this, the Niners didn’t really attack their offensive line in the offseason,” Cowherd said. “Trent Williams sprains a knee or an ankle. Cross your fingers he doesn’t. And Brock Purdy is going to have to once again lead the team and initiate offense.”</p><p>Another issue for Purdy is the 49ers didn’t exactly load up at the receiver position. They traded Deebo Samuel to the Commanders. And they will have to hope Brandon Aiyuk returns to his former standout form. Otherwise, they have Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall, and noth much else.</p><p>However, Kyle Shanahan said he thinks the 49ers <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/49ers/news/why-kyle-shanahan-loves-49ers-wide-receiver-jordan-watkins" rel="noopener">may have something</a> in fourth-round wide receiver pick Jordan Watkins, according to Sports Illustrated.</p><p>“Love his speed,” Shanahan explained. “First thing you notice when you see a guy for the first time, you look at his 40 time, then you watch his routes at the Combine.
