Besides <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-news-ceedee-lamb-didnt-sleep-all-weekend-after-costly-drops-eagles">Lamb making it up to the Cowboys for costly drops</a> in the Week 1 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, there is also a player on the Giants he wants to show off against.</p><p>Last season, Lamb injured his shoulder in Week 4’s Thursday Night Football against New York off a tackle from defensive back Dru Phillips. The star would later be shut down that season in Week 16 with an AC joint sprain, with Lamb saying that he will have <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/cowboys-ceedee-lamb-targeting-giants-cb-i-got-something-for-him/" rel="noopener">“something”</a> for Phillips when the two face off, according to CBS Sports.</p><p>“He tackled me and hurt me, so I’ve got something for him. For sure.” Lamb said.</p><p>Besides the matchup against Phillips, there is no doubt that Lamb wants to redeem himself after big drops against the Eagles that could’ve swayed the game in Dallas’ favor. He would even say Thursday that he did not get any ready “that whole weekend,” showing the type of competitor he is, despite catching seven passes for 110 yards.</p><p>“I didn’t get any rest, really, that whole weekend. That’s the competitor that I am and how much I’m true to the game as far as being honest and just giving it everything I got because I do love this game,” Lamb said. “I love this squad, and I love the guys that I do it with. With the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/new-york-giants/giants-vs-cowboys-bold-predictions-week-2-2025-nfl-season">Cowboys taking on the New York Giants in Week 2</a> of the regular season, teammate and quarterback Dak Prescott would give insight into how Lamb is approaching the contest.</p><p>Statistically, it was a solid game for Lamb, who caught seven of 13 targets for 110 yards, but some drops could have changed the landscape of the game against Philadelphia. The Cowboys will have a good chance to bounce back against the New York Giants, who struggled with the Washington Commanders in Week 1.</p><p>If the Cowboys can generate the same offense they did against the Eagles, it should be a game where they’re able to score consistently. They were going up against the defending Super Bowl champions, and they just traded star pass rusher Micah Parsons away. By all accounts, the Cowboys should have lost by a lot.</p><p>Yet in the final moments of the NFL season opener, the Cowboys found themselves within striking distance of their rivals. Quarterback Dak Prescott was having an amazing game, and he looked to his favorite receiver CeeDee Lamb to punish the Eagles. He threw a perfect ball towards the speeding wide receiver… <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-most-to-blame-for-week-1-loss-to-eagles">who proceeded to drop the pass.</a></p><p>It was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-news-ceedee-lamb-accountability-terrible-drops-eagles">one of three drops that CeeDee Lamb had</a> during their Week 1 game. The Cowboys would end up losing 24-20, with the dropped pass being the dagger that killed their chances. Owner Jerry Jones was asked about Lamb’s drops. The long-time owner<a href="https://x.com/JoeJHoyt/status/1965409663853441192"> spoke in favor of the wide receiver,</a> saying, “Nothing in his background suggests he can’t catch the football … they haven’t made a receiver that hasn’t had a drop. He just had [a few in one game],” per Joseph Hoyt.</p><p>Lamb had seven drops last season, tied for fifth in the NFL along with names like Garrett Wilson and Quentin Johnston. It’s worth noting that Triple Crown winner Ja’Marr Chase had nine drops last season, too. His last three-drop game was in Week 13 last season. Like Jones said, it’s unusual for Lamb to drop these many passes in a game. The Cowboys moved the ball well in the first half and scored all their points in the first 30 minutes. The defense played much better in the second half, allowing just three points to the Eagles.</p><p>The Cowboys might have found a way to win the game if wide receiver CeeDee Lamb had played up to his usual standards. Lamb is regularly considered to be among the best wide receivers in the league, ranking with a duo that includes Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings and Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals.</p><p>The numbers indicate that Lamb did not have a poor game as he caught 7 passes for 110 yards yards. However, Lamb knew that his drops had cost the team, and he was working on his hands.</p><p>Lamb was <a href="https://twitter.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1964093466025034227">catching passes</a> from the Jugs machine in an effort to make sure that he could put an end to the crucial misplays. Lamb knows how to beat coverage and has the speed to run away from tacklers. He also has been known for his dependable hands in the past, and he was clearly disappointed with his own performance.</p><p>Two of the drops might have led to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-news-brian-schottenheimer-believes-super-bowl-chances-eagles">Cowboys scoring drives</a> in the fourth quarter. One was a deep crossing pass over the middle that bounced out of his arms. The second was a deep sideline throw against man coverage. Lamb was open and dove for Prescott’s high-arcing pass. The star receiver, who is considered one of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/ranking-50-best-nfl-players-for-2025-season">best players in the NFL</a>, had three <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-news-ceedee-lamb-roasted-social-media-drops-cost-eagles">dropped passes in the Dallas Cowboys’ first game</a> of the year. All of those drops were costly, and two of them came in the final quarter of play. Had it not been for his miscues, the Cowboys very well may have walked away with a victory.</p><p>Instead, the Cowboys are currently the only team in the league with a loss, and the entire football world is blaming Lamb. The four-time Pro Bowler already <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-news-ceedee-lamb-accountability-terrible-drops-eagles">took sole accountability for the loss.</a> So are drops something to be worried about when it comes to Lamb going forward, or will the receiver figure it out and return to his normal status as a reliable superstar?</p><h2><b>Fans have nothing to be worried about with CeeDee Lamb</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/780058825-ceedee-lamb-catch.jpg"><figcaption>Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Wins are hard to come by in the NFL, especially in the stacked NFC East. It would have been beneficial for the Cowboys’ playoff push if they were to start the season out right with a victory, especially after the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/micah-parsons-trade-grades-shocking-cowboys-packers-blockbuster">controversial Micah Parsons trade.</a> The loss and Lamb’s poor performance are not the end of the world, though.</p><p>The Cowboys had some impressive flashes. Notably, their offense looked potent in the first half before the weather delay and before Lamb literally dropped the ball. The team scored in each of their first three series, and they were up 17-14 at about the midway point of the second quarter.</p><p>Javontae Williams was a standout in the first half. He was able to punch the ball into the end zone twice to start the game, which was a positive sign for Cowboys fans because he looked more like his rookie self than the player he looked like after suffering a devastating knee injury with the Denver Broncos. Williams broke a number of tackles and ran the ball with intensity.</p><p>Lamb also looked great to start the game. The receiver had multiple big-gain plays in the first two quarters as he was tearing through the Eagles’ defense. That wasn’t an easy feat to accomplish as Philadelphia’s defense was arguably the best in the league last year. And they certainly had confidence coming off a Super Bowl championship.</p><p>In the third quarter, lightning strikes in the area <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/nfl-news-eagles-cowboys-suspended-lightning-area">delayed the game for over an hour</a>, and that seemingly threw Lamb off his game. Drops have not historically been an issue for the Oklahoma product. In fact, he had <a href="https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/stats?category=receiving&amp;sort=rec_drops&amp;season=2024&amp;seasonType=reg&amp;sortOrder=desc" rel="noopener">just seven</a> dropped passes all of last season. Despite the late-game blunders, Lamb still finished with seven receptions and 110 yards.</p><p>A couple of his dropped passes were far from easy grabs. And Lamb should return to his dominant and reliable self by Week 2. He has a proven track record, including a league-leading 135 reception season two years ago as well as 101 catches last year in a season in which the Cowboys had a revolving door at quarterback.</p><p>The Cowboys as a whole had a couple of positive takeaways despite the loss, too. In addition to Williams’ performance, the passing defense was effective despite the loss of Parsons. DaRon Bland and Trevon Diggs were able to completely shut both DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown down. The star receiver duo combined for just 24 receiving yards. Lamb far outproduced his receiver peers even with the costly drops.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But the defending Super Bowl champions withstood his loss. And they can thank CeeDee Lamb in part for their season-opening victory.</p><p>Lamb was targeted 13 times against Philadelphia, and he did make some plays. The Cowboys star caught seven passes for 110 yards on the night. However, he dropped multiple passes, including one that could have extended their drive following the two-minute warning. Following the game, he <a href="https://x.com/jonmachota/status/1963827865658499133" rel="noopener">did not shy away</a> from responsibility for those drops.</p><p>“That’s terrible. I can’t point the finger at anybody else. I take full accountability and everything else that comes with it. As a player, I train for moments like that and the ball to come my way. I need to catch the damn ball,” Lamb said, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota.</p><h2><b>Cowboys let Eagles off the hook despite Jalen Carter ejection</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Jalen-Carter-got-tossed-from-the-season-opener-after-one-play.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Eagles emerged victorious by a score of 24-20. However, it was far from an emphatic statement made by the defending champions. They had some issues on offense, for instance. And their run defense suffered without Carter on the field.</p><p>In the end, the Cowboys let their division rivals off the hook. Quarterback Jalen Hurts had just four incomplete passes all night. Dallas prevented any passing touchdowns in this Week 1 clash. However, Hurts rushed for two touchdowns, and neither came via the tush push.</p><p>Many of Philadelphia’s most important plays came thanks to Hurts’ legs. He rushed 14 times in this game, racking up 62 yards on the ground. He helped keep the Eagles offense operating just enough to close out this game.</p><p>Of course, the drops from Lamb did not help. While he was the most productive player on offense, one or two more catches would have given the Cowboys a better chance to win. They gave the Philadelphia Eagles a good fight, but when it was all said and done, the host team <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/eagles-news-landon-dickerson-cowboys-game-injury-concern">came away with a 24-20 victory</a>.</p><p>The Cowboys held the Eagles scoreless in the fourth quarter, but they did not generate a single point in the final period either. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1956811018744529164" rel="noopener">dropped an update there Saturday. </a></p><p>“NFL determined that Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb will not be fined for the penalty and contact he drew last week vs the Rams, per a league official,” Schefter shared via X (formerly Twitter).</p><p>Lamb was celebrating a moment during the NFL Preseason contest at Inglewood. But a sideline official collided into his back while chasing down the play. Lamb and Dallas were penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. I feel like we’re gonna be very successful this year, and we’ve gotta put the pieces together.”</p><p>Pickens has been dealing with poor quarterback play and bad passing games overall for his entire young career so far, so getting to play with Prescott and Lamb will be a big changeup for him. It will also be the first time that the former Georgia star isn’t at the top of the scouting report for opponents, so he should have opportunities to feast throughout the season.</p><p>As for Lamb, it should be business as usual for the three-time All-Pro selection. Even with Pickens taking some of the targets in this Cowboys offense, Lamb should still be one of the most targeted players in football if he is healthy all season long. This year, it is the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/cowboys-rumors-what-a-lot-of-people-in-dallas-really-think-about-micah-parsons-trade-request">Micah Parsons contract dispute.</a> One constant in Dallas is that CeeDee Lamb will put up massive numbers. Because of this, he has become one of the top players in fantasy football. Lamb was again a top player in 2024, but he could have an even better season this go around. So, what is the receiver’s fantasy football outlook ahead of the 2025 season?</p><h2><b>CeeDee Lamb’s 2024 fantasy football statistics</b></h2><p>Lamb held out of training camp last season in search of a new contract. Eventually, the Cowboys granted him his wish, as they did with his quarterback, Dak Prescott, not long after. The two had been wreaking havoc on the league for years and were expected to do so once again in 2024.</p><p>Instead, Prescott was limited to eight games because of a hamstring injury. That meant Lamb would receive passes from Cooper Rush and/or Trey Lance for half of the season. Despite missing his signal-caller, Lamb still put up big numbers. The receiver had 101 receptions for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns.</p><p>Those numbers were good enough for the<a href="https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/stats/wr.php?scoring=PPR" rel="noopener"> eighth-best finish</a> among receivers in PPR leagues (263.4) and the ninth-best mark in standard fantasy football formats (162.4). While impressive nonetheless, especially with inconsistent quarterback play, Lamb did have a down year in 2024. He led the league with 135 catches the year prior during a season in which he racked up 1,749 yards. In 2022, Lamb went for 107 catches and 1,359 yards.</p><h2><b>CeeDee Lamb’s 2025 fantasy football projections </b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/770655678-ceedee-lamb-training-camp.jpg"><figcaption>Kirby Lee-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>With Prescott returning to health, Lamb is expected to return to form as one of the two or three most productive receivers in football. ESPN <a href="https://fantasy.espn.com/football/players/projections" rel="noopener">projects the</a> Oklahoma product to catch 117 passes for 1,438 yards and eight touchdowns. The reception mark, in particular, is tied for the most in the league when it comes to projected 2025 statistics.</p><p>Lamb is just now entering his prime, and the return of Prescott should lead to more touchdowns. Lamb combines shifty route running and aggressive physicality. He thrives both in the middle of the field and outside the hash marks. The Cowboys’ receiving corps doesn’t have a lot of depth, so Lamb shouldn’t have too much competition for targets. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/nfl-stories/george-pickens-trade-grades-for-cowboys-steelers">presence of George Pickens</a> will take some of the pressure off his shoulders, though.</p><h2><b>Fantasy football receiver rankings</b></h2><p>The big three of fantasy football receivers is clear this year. Lamb is competing with Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson for supremacy at the position. Most sites, including FantasyPros, have Lamb trailing those two when it comes to fantasy <a href="https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/adp/overall.php" rel="noopener">rankings this</a> season.</p><p>Even so, Lamb will likely be drafted in the first half of the first round in most fantasy football drafts. His average draft position is 5.5 this year. While Chase is the consensus first overall pick because of the volume in which the Cincinnati Bengals throw the football, Lamb has a case for being <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/fantasy-sports/justin-jeffersons-fantasy-football-outlook-for-2025-nfl-season">ranked above Jefferson</a>. After all, the Minnesota Vikings star has an unproven quarterback throwing him the football in J.J. McCarthy this season and is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/vikings-news-justin-jefferson-gets-cryptic-injury-update-patriots-joint-practice">already dealing with some injury concerns</a>.</p><p>Pickens is a jump-ball threat, so fantasy managers might need to be concerned about the ex-Pittsburgh Steeler stealing red-zone touches from Lamb. Lamb will still rack up huge reception numbers regardless, though, which makes him best in PPR leagues. He and Prescott have had some injury concerns in recent years, so health will also be something to monitor with Dallas’ offense, especially because the offensive line isn’t as elite at keeping Prescott upright as it once was.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
