Glad that we have him,” Evans said. “I’ve been seeing him work since he’s been a rookie. I mean, he’s a do-it-all guy. Unselfish, can block, can do everything. Run after catch is looking really good this year, too.”</p><p>Godwin currently has 15 receptions on 16 targets and is tied for second in the NFL with 200 yards. Twelve of the Penn State alum’s catches have gone for first downs and two for touchdowns.</p><p>Can Godwin keep it up?</p><h2><b>Chris Godwin is the real deal for the Buccaneers</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Chris-Godwin-scores-a-touchdown.jpg"><figcaption>© Eamon Horwedel-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Godwin has been a top-of-the-line receiver since his breakout campaign in 2019 when he caught 86 balls for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns. The 28-year-old has reached 1,000 yards every season since then, except 2020, when he recorded 840 yards in 12 games.</p><p>Godwin <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_A0N_ACF_Po" rel="noopener">opened up about</a> his Week 2 performance in which he caught all eight of his targets for 83 yards and a touchdown in the upset victory over the Detroit Lions on the road, via the Buccaneers’ YouTube channel.</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>“Probably all of the above, really,” Godwin said when asked about if his recent production is due to the matchups he’s getting or how he’s feeling. “It was probably like, the further away you get from an injury, the better you feel. The offense, I feel good in the offense. Getting more comfortable with Baker [Mayfield]. And then just how things are kinda like turning out.”</p><p>Since coming into the league, Godwin has worked with Jameis Winston, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tom Brady, and now Mayfield. Mayfield came in as Brady’s successor last season, and Godwin didn’t miss a beat, totaling 83 receptions for 1,024 yards and two touchdowns. However, the 2017 third-round pick is on pace to dwarf those numbers this year, already tying the touchdown total.</p><p>Godwin credited Mayfield, who’s experienced a career renaissance in Tampa Bay, for his ability to scramble and scan the field to extend plays.</p><p>“It’s really just Baker improvising and doing what he does really well,” Godwin continued. “And then for us, it’s trying to stay alive, give him an option, ’cause you don’t want your quarterback running around with no one to throw it too.”</p><p>While the Buccaneers started strong, they must keep proving themselves over a long season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He has covered everything from Major League Baseball to the NFL, UFC, and College Football.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NFL</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have plenty of room for growth heading into the 2024-2025 season and the passing game will once again play a big role in its fortunes.</p><p>The Bucs’ head coach Todd Bowles and offensive coordinator Liam Coen are reportedly working on a new plan for receiver Chris Godwin that could place him in Cooper Kupp territory on the field, for better or worse.</p><p>The new plan unveiling corresponded with the revelation of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/3-cut-candidates-on-buccaneers-roster-ahead-of-nfl-training-camp">three cut candidates</a> on the Buccaneers’ roster. Three underrated sleepers who <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/buccaneers-news-underrated-sleepers-who-could-break-out-in-2024-nfl-season">could break out this season</a> were also named.</p><p>Will Godwin, Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers return to the playoffs and go even deeper this time? That could depend on how Mayfield’s weapons are utilized and whether they can get the job done against top tier secondaries.</p><h2><b>Godwin’s Kupp Style Plan Revealed</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Godwin-dunk.jpg"><figcaption>© Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Kupp was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year and <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/33285438/cooper-kupp-named-mvp-super-bowl-lvi-late-td-lifts-los-angeles-rams-cincinnati-bengals">Super Bowl MVP</a> in 2021-2022 and a lot of his success was the result of how he was utilized by Sean McVay and Matt Stafford’s Rams.</p><p>Now, Chris Godwin could find himself moving all over the field and working the middle of the defense much like Kupp did that season, this time for Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers. The news comes according to reporter <a href="https://x.com/gregauman/status/1809212921240494086">Greg Auman on X</a>.</p><p>“Bucs have said they’ll use Godwin in the slot, after shifting him outside last year with an eye on avoiding injuries,” Auman said. “It’s the role Cooper Kupp had with the Rams when Coen was there.”</p><h2><b>Godwin’s Big 2023 Had One Glaring Omission </b></h2><p>Godwin was a workhorse for Mayfield and Coach Bowles last season as he put up 1,024 yards on over 80 catches.</p><p>The former third round pick from 2017 only put up two touchdowns, however, suggesting the Buccaneers could find more creative ways to get him the football, especially in the red zone. Godwin has the tools to play all over the field. At 6-feet-1, 209 pounds, he has the size and strength to dominate both on the outside and the inside of the field.</p><p>Now, it’s up to Coen, Bowles and Mayfield to utilize him to the best of his ability. Many fantasy owners were shocked at the lack of touchdowns scored by the former Penn State Nittany Lion but Godwin could be in line for a breakout season in that department if the Buccaneers’ coaches do their jobs to the best of their abilities. This potential Cooper Kupp style change could end up becoming the straw that stirs the drink, so to speak, for Mayfield and company.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The team made the second round of the NFL Playoffs and made sure to lock down the QB this offseason on a new deal. Another player who is looking for an extension is wide receiver Chris Godwin, who has been a key cog for the Bucs for a number of years now.</p><p>Godwin is heading into the final season of his $60 million deal, but it appears talks between the two sides about a new contract <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/insider/story/_/id/40234449/nfl-contract-negotiations-2024-dak-prescott-jamarr-chase-tee-higgins-ceedee-lamb" rel="noopener">haven’t started</a> because the Buccaneers want to see how he performs playing inside in 24′.</p><p>Via ESPN:</p><p>“Godwin is entering the third and final year of a $60 million deal with the Bucs, and sources close to the situation told ESPN that talks on an extension have not started. The Bucs will want to see how he performs in Liam Coen’s offense moving back to the inside, where Godwin saw a heavy amount of production in Bruce Arians’ offense.</p><p>Last year in Dave Canales’ offense, Godwin lined up mostly outside and had some very quiet games before moving back inside. Despite the shuffling around and suffering a torn right ACL in Week 15 in 2021, Godwin amassed 1,023 and 1,024 receiving yards in 2022 and 2023.”</p><h2><b>Can Chris Godwin perform for Buccaneers?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/In-line-image-of-Buccaneers-Chris-Godwin-in-action.jpg"><figcaption>Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Godwin has been a consistent contributor in his seven-year tenure with Tampa. In the last three seasons, he’s surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark. That’s despite <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/buccaneers-news-chris-godwin-knee-injury-actually-a-torn-acl">tearing his ACL</a> late in the 2021 campaign.</p><p>The Buccaneers have a new offensive coordinator, so it makes sense why the organization wants to see how Godwin fares under Coen. But, as head coach Todd Bowles said, he knows Godwin can thrive in more ways than one:</p><p>“He’s an inside guy by nature. He can play outside. But he can make a living inside doing a bunch of things for us. We plan to let him do a lot of things that he does best,” Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles said. “He was coming off the injury last year, so I don’t know if he was at full tilt inside or outside. But he looks a lot quicker, a lot lighter, and he’s healthier now.”</p><p>The Buccaneers drafted Jalen McMillan in April, who is seen as a potential replacement for Chris Godwin. That being said, it would be foolish for Tampa Bay to let him walk next offseason.</p><p>Godwin has a minimum of 65 catches in each of the last five seasons, even reeling in 104 in the 22′ season. Overall, he has 34 touchdowns, with a career-high nine in 2019. Alongside Mike Evans, the former Penn State standout is a legitimate weapon for the Bucs, no matter who is playing quarterback.</p><p>In order to lock down a new deal, all Godwin has to do is perform at the level he’s used to. It’s doubtful the Bucs actually want to lose him because to be brutally honest, it’s hard to find receivers who put up numbers year in and year out.</p><p>Those don’t come around every day.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But while <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/buccaneers-chris-godwin-clears-the-air-after-fiery-social-media-post-by-wife" rel="noopener">Godwin would surely like</a> to take the credit, the wide receiver knows just how important defense was for the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/buccaneers-news-todd-bowles-rave-baker-mayfield-review-qb-never-flinched-eagles" rel="noopener">Buccaneers to secure a win</a>.</p><p>Tampa Bay came away with a 32-9 victory over Philadelphia, setting up a matchup with the Detroit Lions in the Divisional Round. While Godwin caught a touchdown pass in the win, he noted that the <a href="https://twitter.com/Sara_Walsh/status/1747135258888216617" rel="noopener">defense has been key</a> to the Buccaneers’ success, via Sara Walsh of The NFL Network.</p><p>“Can’t say enough about them. They’re a bunch of ballers on that side. They’re playing with a ton of grit, they’re playing together. They’re so energized right now. They’ve been doing a great job carrying us the last couple of weeks.”</p><p>Godwin was one of three players to catch a touchdown pass from Baker Mayfield against the Eagles. His TD was the third of the bunch as it put the final nail in Philadelphia’s coffin.</p><p>While the offense was flashy, the defense more than got its job done. Tampa Bay held the Eagles to just 276 yards of total offense. Philly gained just 42 rushing yards and were held 0-9 on third down. The Buccaneers even recorded a safety.</p><p>Chris Godwin and company will need the Bucs’ defense to be at the top of their game when they take on the Lions. The Buccaneers are 6-7 in the NFC South, leading the division despite the losing record. The team needs every available man in order to get an important win over a Packers team that’s been finding some success in recent weeks. Green Bay is also 6-7 and trying to catch up to the Detroit Lions in the NFC North.</p><p>Godwin <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/buccaneers-news-final-chris-godwin-injury-update-week-15-will-come-sunday" rel="noopener">has been battling</a> a knee injury, while Dean has had a bad foot and ankle. Both are listed as questionable but should be good to go, per NFL Network. White has had an injured foot, and may work out pre-game, but has a solid chance to play.</p><p>Godwin has been used consistently in the Buccaneers passing game when healthy. The wide receiver has 8 games this season with at least five receptions. On the year, Godwin has 659 yards receiving with a touchdown. His total receiving yards are down compared to last season.</p><p>Dean hasn’t <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/buccaneers-news-jamel-dean-encouraging-week-week-update-scary-ankle-injury" rel="noopener">recorded a tackle</a> in the Buccaneers defense since November. The cornerback has 36 solo tackles on the year, and three passes defended. White hasn’t recorded a tackle since then, either. The linebacker has 69 total tackles on the year, with two sacks and an interception. Though, the offense will probably need to be at least close to full capacity in order to leave Lambeau Field with a win.</p><p>Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is going to be a <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1735730697350889902" rel="noopener">game-time decision</a>, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The Super Bowl champion and former Second-Team All-Pro is dealing with a knee injury that caused him to miss the first two practices of the week. He did get in a full session on Friday, though, so it appears that head coach Todd Bowles is just being cautious.</p><p>Godwin has flown <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/buccaneers-chris-godwin-clears-the-air-after-fiery-social-media-post-by-wife" rel="noopener">under the radar</a> this year, as Tampa’s offense ranks in the bottom half in total yards. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has his accuracy issues on occasion (below 50 percent in each of last two weeks), but he has proven to be a sufficient passer. His effectiveness will probably wane if the former Penn State star is not on the field this weekend, though.</p><p>Godwin has tallied 58 receptions for 659 yards but only one TD, with teammate Mike Evans scoring a whopping 10 this season. In order for this squad to stand out as something more than just the leader of a weak division, both receivers will need to regularly feast. If Mayfield can make that happen in the final stretch of the 2023-24 campaign, then he will be rewarded with another contract in the offseason.</p><p>But before any of that can happen, Chris Godwin must gain clearance for Green Bay.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

It was an odd sight to see, as it seemed like the offense geared away from one of its top players. After the game, Todd Bowles claimed injuries were why Godwin was not more involved.</p><p>After that, Chris Godwin’s wife, Mariah,<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/buccaneers-news-chris-godwin-wife-calls-out-team-blatantly-lying-husband" rel="noopener"> called out the Buccaneers</a>‘ head coach. She went to Instagram and shared that Godwin actually played just about his season average of snaps. So, she straight-up doesn’t believe Bowles’ claims.</p><p>Godwin was quick to clear the air though. Obviously, he <a href="https://www.tampabay.com/sports/bucs/2023/12/07/chris-godwin-mariah-godwin-todd-bowles-snap-counts/" rel="noopener">didn’t feel the same way</a> as his wife did when Todd Bowles claimed the Buccaneers were “subbing him in and out a lot,” according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.</p><p>“‘I don’t think disrespected is the right term,’ Godwin said. ‘I think it’s tough, because obviously it was tough getting through the game (Sunday). We all go through things physically. Being out there and trying to put everything on the line for the team and trying to be available as I can, you want to contribute and that didn’t happen the way I would’ve hoped.</p><p>‘But it’s things that you live and you learn from, right? At the end of the day, I was still there, I was able to contribute in some capacity. I don’t think Coach Bowles had any malice in what he was saying.'”</p><p>With that said, it sounds like there isn’t any real problems brewing in Tampa Bay. Superstars have off days in the NFL too. So, it could have been nothing more than that. After the game, head coach Todd Bowles said it was because of Godwin’s limited playing time due to a litany of minor injuries. However, Godwin’s wife, Mariah Godwin, does not agree at all, and she brought receipts.</p><p>“We were subbing him out a lot,” Todd Bowles <a href="https://www.tampabay.com/sports/bucs/2023/12/06/chris-godwin-injury-targets-mariah-godwin-todd-bowles/" rel="noopener">said after the game</a>, justifying Chris Godwin’s light usage, per the Tampa Bay Times. “Obviously, he’s a little nicked up, so he’s not totally 100%. Nobody is, but he is probably banged up more than most. For him to get the run for us was huge for him. I think it helped him out a lot, it helped us out a lot, so it was good to see him get in the end zone.”</p><p>Mariah Godwin did not like that explanation and took to Instagram to point out that her husband played 52 snaps in the Buccaneers’ Week 13 win over the Panthers, which is right in line with the 47-58 snaps (54.5 on average) he’s played in every game this season. She also called out Bowles for “lying.”</p><p>“I’m not sure why we are just blatantly lying here,” Mariah Godwin wrote, “regardless of how banged up Chris is, he continues to work his a** off. hasn’t missed a game. continues to run great routes &amp; get open. Our Week 13 panic meter will help you get a better gauge on how much you should trust some of the big names on your roster heading into crunch time.</p><p>As always, the following list provides cases for why you should not worry at all, be a little bit worried, and be in a full panic for bigger names on your fantasy football rosters. This is not any advice to move on from any players in the ‘Full Panic’ section, but you should absolutely be exploring moves to try and move that problem somewhere else.</p><h2>No Need to Panic</h2><p><b>Jahmyr Gibbs</b></p><p>A week of only 10 touches could be seen as problematic for rookie Jahmyr Gibbs, but limiting some of his work down the stretch would be a smart idea for the Lions as they make their trek to the postseason.</p><p>In Gibbs’ first professional season you don’t want your prized rookie to get worn down, so even in earning only 45 percent of snaps in Sunday’s win over the Saints, he still led the backfield in total yardage. Expect Gibbs to have a strong showing in Week 14 against the Bears, hopefully quieting any concerns.</p><h2>Some Panic</h2><p><b>Chris Godwin</b></p><p>Sunday’s win over the Panthers marked the first game of the 2023 NFL season that Chris Godwin received fewer than five targets. Having entered the game with a questionable tag due to a neck injury, Godwin didn’t record a single reception, the first time this has happened since 2018.</p><p>While he did salvage his day with a rushing score, Godwin recorded his fifth consecutive game of single-digit fantasy points, so the signs have been there for a bit. With Atlanta up next for Tampa Bay, Godwin has a great shot at getting back into the groove, but temper your expectations.</p><p><b>Terry McLaurin</b></p><p>As was the case for Godwin, Terry McLaurin also <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/commanders-terry-mclaurin-admission-no-catches-dolphins" rel="noopener">failed to haul in</a> any passes in Week 13, only the second time this has happened in his whole career. With the Washington passing attack having struggled in a 30-point blowout loss, it was McLaurin who took the brunt of those struggles.</p><p>A Week 14 bye comes at a good point for the Commanders, who need to reset their offense. With Sam Howell putting up strong numbers for your fantasy football team, it’s only a matter of time before McLaurin and his quarterback get back on the same page.</p><p><b>Javonte Williams</b></p><p>With questions surrounding his health at the start of the year, Javonte Williams has looked quite strong in his first season post-ACL tear. While the Denver Broncos have had a surprising turnaround year, Williams has had his fair share of struggles.</p><p>His consistent passing game work (two-plus receptions in all but one game) has helped keep his fantasy points semi-regular. But his rushing efficiency needs to improve, and with matchups against the Chargers (x2), Lions, and Patriots upcoming, hopefully Williams will be able to right the ship.</p><h2>Full Panic</h2><p><b>Austin Ekeler</b></p><p>Last week we had Austin Ekeler in the ‘Some Panic’ section of this panic meter article, but it’s fair to say that his three-week span of sub-10 fantasy points certainly has put a damper on his impact this season.</p><p>The sirens are in full bore for the RB26 on the year, and with Ekeler’s high draft capital looking like it could be the reason why your team doesn’t make the playoffs, expecting him to figure things out seems a bit moot at the moment.</p><p>His only saving grace could be the two matchups with the Broncos upcoming, who have one of the most porous rush defenses in the whole league. If Ekeler cannot get things going in Week 14 against Denver, he might be entering the unthinkable – not locked in as a weekly starter.</p><p><b>Pittsburgh WRs</b></p><p>This group was already on thin ice, having to catch passes from Kenny Pickett, but with Mitch Trubisky at the helm, the Pittsburgh Steelers receivers may have an even tougher battle to make your starting lineups.</p><p>While Diontae Johnson did find the end zone in Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals, George Pickens led the team in receiving yards. Both Johnson and Pickens will be downgraded moving forward, especially with Pickett missing multiple weeks (and having an <a href="https://x.com/bepryor/status/1731764968289177643?s=20" rel="noopener">unknown timeline)</a> until Trubisky familiarizes himself with the offense.</p><p>And even at that point, he isn’t a good-enough quarterback to give you any confidence in starting Johnson or Pickens moving forward, so only in a pinch should you look to start one of these two Pittsburgh receivers.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1731240103572586669">early Sunday</a>, the determining factor is if he wakes up feeling okay.</p><p>The 27-year-old wideout hasn’t missed a game this season, and his stats prove it. He’s the team’s second-leading receiver with 53 catches for 606 yards and one touchdown, including three catches for 45 yards in last week’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts.</p><p>Godwin’s best game this season came in the Buccaneers 26-9 win over the New Orleans Saints on October 1st. He had eight catches on 11 targets for 114 yards receiving in that game.</p><p>A second-team All-Pro in 2019, Godwin was Tampa Bay’s third-round draft pick (84th overall) out of Penn State in the 2017 NFL Draft.</p><p>Godwin was named the Buccaneers’ finalist for the annual Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award in November. “For me, it’s an honor,” said Godwin <a href="https://www.buccaneers.com/video/chris-godwin-his-art-rooney-sportsmanship-award-nomination-honor-press">on the nomination</a>, “It’s not a way I was intentionally trying to be. It’s just how I was raised.”</p><p>Sunday’s game is crucial for the Buccaneers’ dwindling playoff hopes.</p><p>At 4-7, they currently sit in third place in the lowly NFC South. The team will need to win out and plenty of help to capture the NFC’s seventh and final playoff spot. It remains to be seen whether Godwin’s status for Sunday’s game is in question or not.</p><p>Perhaps unsurprisingly, Godwin’s numbers are down a bit this season with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/buccaneers-news-tampa-bay-optimistic-baker-mayfield-suit-up-week-13-ankle-injury" rel="noopener">new quarterback Baker Mayfield</a> under center. Godwin has 606 yards on 53 receptions, both second on the Buccaneers behind Mike Evans. The Penn State alum has found the endzone just once in 2023 after averaging 5.5 scores per season across his first six years in Tampa.</p><p>Godwin surpassed 1,000 yards in three of the last four seasons but has his work cut out the rest of the way if he wants to make it three in a row and four in five years. He’d have to average 66 yards a game over the last six games of the year to make that happen.</p><p>That doesn’t sound like a very tall task for a wideout of his caliber, but it turns out that way considering who is throwing him the ball. The dynamic skill-position player said that there was a lot going on before the ball reached to the spot he was in, but <a href="https://www.tampabay.com/sports/bucs/2023/10/26/baker-mayfield-mike-evans-josh-allen-buffalo-bills/" rel="noopener">it was too late</a> according to The Tampa Bay Times.</p><p>“They had a guy pressed on me,” Godwin said. “I had to avoid him so I’m a little late to the party. So when I get there, I just tried to look up and find the way. I wasn’t sure whether he grabbed me or not, but by the time I got my head around, I saw the ball coming in low.”</p><p>Just like a lot of football games, there was <a href="https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1717743758626930721" rel="noopener">controversy surrounding the play</a> as some think that tight end Cade Otton was held close to where the ball was and that a flag should’ve been called. The Buccaneers tied the game up at 10 apiece on a play that has been seen as “incredible” and “improbable” by football watchers and stat geeks alike.</p><p>With the trade deadline coming up on Halloween, three possible <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/buccaneers-trade-roster-2023-nfl-deadline" rel="noopener">trades were mentioned</a> that the Buccaneers may attempt to offer soon. Fans went crazy over Bills QB Josh Allen’s decision to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bills-josh-allens-taylor-swift-gesture-vs-buccaneers-has-fans-going-bonkers" rel="noopener">evoke Taylor Swift’s name</a> during a pre-snap play call against Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers.</p><p>As the game unfolded on Thursday night, the Buccaneers found themselves trailing on the scoreboard 10-3.</p><p>That’s when Mayfield took matters into his own hands, tossing a touchdown pass to Chris Godwin that had an improbable percentage tied to it. He had completed 12-of-20 passes while Godwin caught four balls for 48 yards and the aforementioned score.</p><p>Allen threw for 206 yards with one touchdown and one interception on the night as the game progressed into the third quarter. For Buccaneers fans, the incredible touchdown toss was a mere glimpse of what is possible when the former first round pick Mayfield and the talented wide receiver Godwin are on the field together.</p><p>The Buccaneers need to do a better job of slowing down Allen in the second half in hopes of securing a much-needed road win against their interconference foes.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
