Fellow halfback Chuba Hubbard, dealing with an ankle injury he suffered in Week 7, has been ruled out for the team’s upcoming contest against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to <a href="https://twitter.com/DNewtonespn/status/1588560701315985411" rel="noopener">David Newton of ESPN</a>. While it’s bad news for Hubbard and the Panthers, it’s a big-time chance for Foreman to keep producing well.</p><p>As Newton notes, Hubbard’s absence will result in a large workload for D’Onta Foreman once again. The Texas Longhorns product has handled at least 17 touches in each of the last two weeks since the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/panthers-news-donta-foreman-pulls-off-feat-christian-mccaffrey-never-did-in-carolina/" rel="noopener">Christian McCaffrey</a> trade, producing at least 118 yards in each game.</p><p>While Foreman’s Week 7 usage was promising, his Week 8 usage was even more so. The Panthers legitimately utilized Foreman like a bellcow running back, handing him the rock 26 times.</p><p>With that kind of volume, it would be surprising to see the Panthers halfback post anything less than strong RB2-level numbers for his fantasy football managers.</p><p>Plus, the Bengals defense has been fairly giving to opposing halfbacks, allowing over 120 rushing yards per game to their opponents. On top of that, Cincinnati is fresh off of getting gashed by Nick Chubb and the Browns, who lit up the scoreboard to the tune of 172 total rushing yards, three touchdowns on the ground and 32 points scored.</p><p>The only scenario where Foreman might not produce is if the Bengals enjoy an offensive bounce-back and quickly race out to an early lead, forcing the Panthers to abandon the run.</p><p>Outside of that scenario, there’s little stopping Foreman from rumbling to another top-15 finish at the position.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

D’Onta Foreman and Chubba Hubbard both played a significant role on the ground.</p><p>Foreman carried the ball a team-high 15 times, rushing for 119 yards. Hubbard finished the day with nine carries, rushing for 63 yards and one touchdown.</p><p>An ankle injury forced Hubbard out early in Week 7. And it will hold him out entirely in Week 8.</p><p>Via ESPN’s NFL Insider <a href="https://twitter.com/FieldYates/status/1586024629092614150?s=20&amp;t=Oj6L6ag6oeJubjExkYmv5A">Field Yates</a>:</p><p>“Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard is OUT on Sunday against the Falcons.<br>D’Onta Foreman is in line for a significant role.”</p><p>With Hubbard out, Foreman will be the lead back in an offense that has relied heavily on their ground game.</p><p>Foreman has had a small sample size this season, totaling just 12 attempts before Week 7.</p><p>In a significant role for the Houston Texans last season, Foreman played well. Over nine games as the starting running back, he recorded 566 rushing yards and three carries. Through the air, he recorded nine receptions for 123 receiving yards.</p><p>The Panthers will be taking on an Atlanta Falcons defense that has struggled at times. With quarterback PJ Walker <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/panthers-news-baker-mayfield-exhibits-maturity-amid-benching-for-pj-walker/">leading the charge</a> in Carolina at the moment, the offense has appeared to open up. The running back exited their game due to an ankle injury. Hubbard never made it back to the game, which worried fans. However, the reason why he never returned was that there was virtually no need to rush him back, and that he’ll be ready for their next games. After all, the departure of Christian McCaffrey is a major gut punch to the team. The expectation for Carolina was to cruise their way to another high draft pick in the upcoming draft. But Steve Wilks indicated it will be a by-committee approach for the post-CMC Panthers.”</p><p>This is certainly an interesting call from the Panthers, as it seemed like a certainty that Foreman would be leading the way in the backfield with McCaffrey now in San Francisco. But it doesn’t look like that’s necessarily the case, as Hubbard has surprisingly emerged as the team’s top running back for Week 7.</p><p>As Person notes here, the Panthers likely won’t lean heavily on either guy in this game, as a running back committee approach seems to benefit the team more than making one of these guys a workhorse running back. The win came at a cost though, as they lost star running back Christian McCaffrey to a hamstring injury.</p><p><a href="https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/09/24/matt-rhule-royce-freeman-chuba-hubbard-just-have-to-be-starting-nfl-running-backs/">Per ProFootballTalk</a>, head coach Matt Rhule revealed what he told Panthers rookie running back Chuba Hubbard at halftime.</p><blockquote>“I told Chuba at halftime, ‘That’s why we drafted you, man.’ I thought Chuba was outstanding. At the end of the half, we didn’t give him a ton of chances, but I thought he got in there at the end and made some key runs. When we can line up in four-minute offense and run and get the first down on two plays, especially versus that stout defense, that’s a credit to the offensive line, credit to the tight ends and full backs.”</blockquote><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/panthers-news-christian-mccaffrey-injury-status-gets-update-from-matt-rhule-sam-darnold-reacts/">With McCaffrey’s timeline still not known</a> for the Panthers, Hubbard and Royce Freeman could be in for much larger roles on Carolina’s offense. Rhule kept it pretty simple when talking about what the expectations for both are if McCaffrey is to miss some time.</p><blockquote>“Yeah, I think they just have to be starting NFL running backs, and Royce has done that before.”</blockquote><p>It’s been a really good start to the season for the Panthers but having to potentially go any amount of time without McCaffrey could prove costly.
